Shortly before 9:00 a.m. on September 14th

two men posing as city employees

seized a valuable assortment of diamond jewelry

from a store window in St. Louis, Missouri.

The vehicle used in the brazen robbery are light trucks

stolen from the Public Works Department

was left at the scene.

A second stolen car used in the getaway

was discovered a short time later in Illinois.

Because the subjects had crossed state lines

the FBI immediately entered the case.

As the first step in a major theft investigation

sources in the diamond industry

were alerted about the stolen jewelry.

- Good morning, inspector. - Bill.

They must have had this location picked out.

They seemed to head right for it.

Have you found any evidence of another car?

No, something a bit different. I'll show you.

Helicopter.

Yeah, markings look fresh.

We have a report of sighting at about 9:15 this morning.

The mailman who was on his routes spotted a small copter

going north at treetop level.

He didn't, by any chance, get the registration number?

No, but he noticed that it was white

and had an open framework fuselage.

Why don't you show him some pictures of different

model helicopters, see if he can identify this one.

And we've measured the, uh, skid markings

that should help us narrow it down.
