[snarls]

[thunder rumbles]

[epic theme playing]

[zaps, snarls]

-There you go, little guy.
I'm not gonna hurt you.

Just want to make sure
that cut is healing properly.

Ah, looks pretty good.

Could use a dab of antibacterial
ointment, though.

Nurse Plow?

[grumbles]

- [screeching]
- [grumbling]

[laughs] That's okay, girl.
I got it.

- [grumbles]
- Sometimes it's not easy having

a giant horn
on the front of your head.

Here we go. Now, you just
need a little more rest,

then it's back to the lush
landscape of the Nature Realm.

[sighs]

- PHIL: D'Angelo?
- Pop!

-[sighs] Here you are.
I should've guessed.

-Check it out.

The dragon hospital
is really coming along.

This is the new healing center

where my patients
can rest and recharge.

-Uh-huh, that's nice, but...

-This is our double gurney

for my more robust dragons.

- D, listen, I really...
- And over here is where I keep

the cutting-edge
homeopathic treatments

I've been developing
from the Hidden Realms.

You think they should be
alphabetized...

-D'Angelo! Do I have
to remind you about Buzzsaw,

the hatchet-wielding lunatic

with the giant dragon
who attacked

- the town a few weeks back?
- Of course not. I just...

-As head of security,

it is my job to keep
everyone around here safe,

and I need you
as my First Lieutenant.

-First Lieutenant? But, Dad,

this hospital
is really important.

-Not as important
as securing the facility.

You're spending way
too much time in here

playing dragon doctor.

Now, I need you out in the field

setting up sensors
and patrolling the perimeter.

-But I need to keep
an eye on my patients.

-Playtime is over.

The more eyes we have
watchin' for Buzzsaw,

the better.

Do you read me, son?

-Loud and clear.

-Woo-hoo! C'mon, Pal.
Let's do this.

Yeah! Knock those dragon hunters
off their dragons!

-Wei! This one's all ours.

Clean him and fry him!

- [cheers, laughs]
- Hey! Hey!

We're supposed to be knocking
the hunters off their dragons.

You incinerated me!

-Just keeping you
on your toes, Kullersen.

And where did all these
Tom standees come from anyway?

- My mom. It's a long story.
- [both chuckling]

-Speaking of your mom,

I can't believe
she trusts you enough

to let you go back to the realms

now that she knows
about Buzzsaw.

-Ah, c'mon, I'm her son.
Of course, she trusts me.

Okay,
it took a lot of convincing.

And she probably trusts Thunder
more than she trusts me,

but whatever, that works too!

-Oh, look at this, Gonzo.
Shocker.

Jun and Kullersen.
Sneakin' off again.

-We're just getting
a jump-start on training.

- ALEX: Mm-hm.
- Clearly.

-Where's, D? It's time for us to
plan a raid on Buzzsaw's camp.

We need to get
the dragon book back,

and free those captured
dragons once and for all.

-Oh, so you can
finally clear your conscience?

Since, ya know,
you're the one who handed

Buzzsaw the dragon book
in the first place.

- Ow!
- Tom did it to save

Thunder's life, Eugene.

- Okay, sure.
- [Jun groans]

-D! Just in time.

- You okay?
- I'm fine.

-Mm, you don't look fine.
You look deflated.

- It's nothing.
- Okay. [clears throat]

In that case,
let's plan the raid on Buzzsaw.

If we can hit his camp
this afternoon...

-I don't think I can go today.

-What? What do mean ya can't go?
We need you.

-Let me guess.
You're too busy workin'

in your new,
boring dragon hospital?

Ow! What I say?

-Helping injured dragons
isn't boring, Eugene!

And yes,
I have patients in my care.

I need to keep an eye on them.

-But getting the book back
from Buzzsaw

is important, D'Angelo.

-The dragon hospital
is important too!

Why can't anybody
understand that?

Just forget it.
I have to do my rounds.

- D.
- I'll see you guys later.

C'mon, girl.

-I don't know about you guys,

but if D'Angelo's
gonna be that much

of a downer, I'm glad he left.

Ha, can I get a yup-yup?!

- [Jun groans]
- [Eugene sighs]

Okay. I deserve that.

[Phil snoring]

[buzzing, beeping]

-D'Angelo! Code Red!

Could be Buzzsaw!
Move, move, move!

[tense music playing]

[grunts] Stay on my wheel, D.

[quietly]
Remember what I taught you.

A Ranger always expects
the unexpected.

[distant noises]

♪ ♪

I got ya now!

[grunts]

-Pop! Are you okay?

-I'm fine.
I must've hit somethin'.

I knew it! Someone's been
messin' with the sensors.

[distant screeching]

Shh, shh, shh, shh.

♪ ♪

-A Hobgobbler?

- [grumbling]
- Oh no! He's choking!

How do you give a dragon
the Heimlich?

-Here.

[grunts]

Guess we know what's
been chewin' on the sensors.

[groans]
These things are a menace!

Whoa, why is it lookin' at me
like that?

Is it dead?

-No. It,
it must still be disoriented.

Here. Let me see him.

-[sighs]
Is he gonna be all right?

-I'm not sure. He might've
injured his esophagus.

- [screeches]
- Whoa, whoa! No, no, no!

Be careful, be careful!

-Now, now, calm down, dragon,

or ya might hurt yourself
more than you already have.

[purring]

Huh? What? Hey!
Get this thing off of me!

-We need to get him
to the dragon hospital STAT,

so I can run more tests.
Something's not right.

-Fine. You take him.

- [Phil groans]
- [D'Angelo chuckles]

[groans]

-So, what's the word?

-His esophagus is okay, but

it looks like he has a sprained
leg and a sprained wing.

He must've tangled
with something before he choked.

-Well, whatever he fought with,

he took out his frustrations
on my perimeter sensor.

-I'll need to keep him
for observation for a few days,

make sure he can
fend for himself

before returning him
to the wild.

-Oh, might be time to restrict
dragons from being in town.

Then you won't have to waste
your days in this hospital.

You'll be on the front lines
where you belong...

-Dad, no.

-All of these
dragon distractions

and sensor issues are leavin'
the station vulnerable

to attack from Buzzsaw.

-Buzzsaw is one of the reasons

this dragon hospital
is so important!

- You can't shut it down!
- D'Angelo. Now is not the time

to have this conversation.

I'd like to get
a little shut-eye

before my day starts
all over again.

So can ya please finish up

with your little pal
so we can get to bed?

[snarls]

- I'll be back in a few hours.
- [whimpers]

Try to get some sleep.

[melancholy music playing]

- Hey, Pal.
- [yawns]

EUGENE: [yawns]
This better be important, Tommy.

I don't need beauty sleep,
but I sure do enjoy it.

-It is a little early
for a Dragon Rider meeting.

- Sorry, guys. I couldn't sleep.
- [yawns] That makes one of us.

-Where's D'Angelo?

-Oh, um, I didn't invite him.

-You didn't invite him,
like, intentionally?

-D'Angelo is completely
wrapped up

in his new dragon hospital
right now,

and I totally respect that, but
every day Buzzsaw has that book

is another dangerous day
for dragons.

-What are you saying, Tom?

-I'm saying, I think we should
raid Buzzsaw's camp

without D and Plow.

- [gasps]
- Why not?!

There's four of us
and three of them. We can do it!

And Jun and I have
been training on the side.

-[sighs] Tom, we're a team,
remember? No Rider left behind?

-This is different.

-For an attack
on Buzzsaw like that,

we need to be at full strength.

-Listen to my sister, Tommy boy.
She's weird, but she's smart.

-Okay. W-What if instead of
going in dragons blazing,

we do it covertly?

Create some kind of diversion,

and then sneak in
and get the book?

He'll never even know
we're there.

C'mon. I-I need this.

-[sighs] Okay, Tom.

-But if things
start to go sideways,

we book it out of there.

-If? "Sideways" is
Kullersen's middle name.

[snoring]

- [dragon grumbling]
- [yells]

-Aah!

D'Angelo!

Get this “thing”
outta this house!

-I can't believe
he escaped the hospital

and found his way here.

I've never seen
this kind of devotion

from a Hobgobbler before.

- [chuckles] Oh, look.
- What?

-He likes you, Phillip.

-I would think
you'd be more upset.

He did steal
your spot in the bed.

-Of course, he did.
I left it nice and warm.

-[gasps] This Hobgobbler must
have had a moment with you

after you saved him
from choking.

A connection was made!

[grumbling, screeches]

-Nothing was made.
A sensor was broken.

Now, I don't care about
all this dragon mumbo-jumbo.

I need him gone.

-Ya know, Pop,

the Hobgobbler's recovery

might go faster if he
can stay here with us.

Then I can give him
round-the-clock care.

-Absolutely not. You know
your mother's allergic to cats,

probably allergic to dragons,
too.

-Nope, I'm fine.

-Well,
I have a no pet rule, so...

- He's not a pet, he's a patient.
- The dome is too small to have...

-C'mon, Phillip.
He's really cute.

It might be nice
to have a little dragon

around here for a few days.

[chuckles]

-Oh, the two of them
double-teamed me,

that's what happened.

Not a fair fight.

All I know is, D better clean up
after that thing

'cause if I step in dragon poop
I'm gonna... [yells]

[playful screeching]

Oh. [grunts]

Get over here! [grunts]
You slippery, little wiggler!

Oh! D'Angelo!

- How we looking, Pete?
- Spectacular, Chief.

-Once you get
this sensor activated,

we'll run a check
to make sure Buzzsaw...

Are you even listening to me?

-Oh, uh, yes,
it... Chief, it's just...

-[grumbles] D'Angelo!

Hello?

Oh.

Hmm.

All right. [chuckles]
Peace. Quiet.

And Lunch.

[gasps] No.

- [belches]
- Not my taco meatloaf!

[yells, grunts]
Get off of me, you lunch thief!

Consider yourself
dishonorably discharged.

Have a nice life.

[whimpers]

-I'll tell ya this much, Jack.

Whatever idiot wrote this book,

in this crazy
old-timey language,

sure knew a lot about dragons.

[Jack grumbles]

Still hungry? Here ya go.

When you're done, maybe
we'll take an afternoon flight.

-He's alone,
and he's got the book.

-Let me see that.

If by alone you mean
he's sitting right next to

that giant dragon, you're right.

-Ya know, it's not too late
to go back to the Lair,

sit in the hot springs,

plan a future
that doesn't involve

death and dismemberment.

-Now's our chance. I'll sneak in
and grab it, alone.

-Tom.

-I'll be fine.

You guys just, just keep
your eyes open and cover me.

[tense music plays]

[grumbles]

PHIL: Ate all my taco meatloaf.

-Hey, Pop.
I've been lookin' for you.

Figured you might be
havin' lunch.

[Phil grumbles]

- What are you doing?
- Signin' an edict

banning dragons in Rakke Town

and shuttering
your little hospital.

- No. Dad! You, you can't!
- I can and I did.

These dragons are a nuisance,
D'Angelo.

And they only serve

as a distraction
from the real threat.

-Dad. Please. I-I thought if
the Hobgobbler stayed with us

you would see how loving
and loyal dragons can be.

- You just need more time to...
- Sorry, D. Time is up.

-Wait. Where's the Hobgobbler?

-I put him outside,
where animals belong.

[gasps]

I don't know
what the problem is.

I'm sure he just went home.

-The problem is, his leg
and his wing haven't healed yet.

He'll be defenseless
in the Realms

and easily picked off.

-Well I...
didn't think of that. [sighs]

[sniffs]

♪ ♪

-Follow the drool.
He went that way!

[groans]

♪ ♪

[exhales] Just as I thought.

He's heading back
to the dragon world.

There's no time to get Plowhorn,
I'm climbing down.

-Just stop right there,
D'Angelo. You know the rules.

No lone wolf missions.

I'm coming with you.

♪ ♪

[grumbles]

♪ ♪

-Okay. He has a clean path.
He's going for it.

WINSTON: Look, I'm just sayin',

Buzzsaw likes Jack
more than he likes us.

-Ugh, Buzzsaw likes paper cuts
more than he likes us.

- [rustling]
- Shh!

You hear something?

[majestic music playing]

- Oh, oh.
- [dragons screeching]

[Phil chuckles]

So, this is the dragon world.

You were right, D. It's amazing.

-Stay on task.

You look for predators
while I look for tracks.

-Attaboy. An Army Ranger never
deviates from the mission. Now...

-That's what this is
all really about, isn't it?

Banning dragons?
Shutting down the hospital?

You only pretended to support
my passion, but the truth is,

you hate the fact that
I wanna be an animal vet

and not an army vet.

-That's ridiculous.

[dramatic music plays]

Okay, yes. I thought all this
animal stuff was just a phase,

that you would ultimately
follow in my footsteps.

-I knew it! I knew it!

-But you gotta understand,
D, my job as a father

is to help you reach
your potential.

-Then start helping me.

I have the potential
to be a great veterinarian!

[screeching]

Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Where are you goin', little guy?

-C'mon.
We gotta get you someplace safe.

[growls]

Ooh! So,
that's how it's gonna be.

[grumbling]

- That is a Speed Stinger.
- A what now?

-It's a dragon. Very fast.
Potent venom.

We have to find cover, now.

-There!

♪ ♪

[grunts]

-Huh.

-Phew.

[yells, grunts]

- [bells jingling]
- FORD: Intruder!

-Fire at will!

-Uh-oh.

Whoa! Ah!

[grunting, yelling]

♪ ♪

[evil laughter]

[gasps] Whoa!

Wait! Pal! The book!

-I think this qualifies
as going sideways, Kullersen!

-Middle schoolers!

Didn't know
we were playing today.

Boys!

It's time for the secret weapon!

[Ford, Winston grunting]

[gasps]

♪ ♪

Hey, lightning bird! Zap this!

- TOM: Look out!
- [Alex screaming]

-Alex!

[Alex screaming]

-Retreat, Riders. Retreat!

-I don't have to read the words
in order to follow the pictures!

Come back any time,
middle schoolers.

- You're always welcome!
- [evil laughter]

-[sighs] So, what do you know
about this Speed Stinger dragon?

-I know I have antivenom
for their stings

back at the hospital,

but that doesn't really
help us now.

-You, um,
you developed an antivenom?

-Yes. With Dr. Kullersen's help.

-[sighs] Look, D. I just think
you would make a bett...

-I don't care what you think,
okay?

I have my own life.
My own goals.

A person doesn't have to wear
a Ranger Pin on their shirt

to make a difference,
or have honor.

-I know that.

- Do you?
- [roaring, screeching]

- It found us.
- We have to go!

- [both gasp]
- Run, D'Angelo! Save yourself!

- No! I'm not leaving you!
- Go!

-All right, Dragon.

You're messin' with
the wrong Ranger.

You wanna tussle?

Let's tussle.

- [screeches]
- [Phil grunts]

-[yells] Dad!

♪ ♪

[screeching]

[triumphant music playing]

[screeches]

-You... you saved my life.

-I told you, Pop. They're loyal.
Just like the Rangers.

-Mm, I guess, if you wanna stay
with us until you're healed up,

that's fine by me.

But you're gonna have to sleep
in D'Angelo's room. Huh?

- [softly] Wait, D...
- Shh.

It's all right.

- [grumbles]
- I'm not gonna hurt you.

I just wanna check
on that injured tail.

[growls, sniffs]

[heroic music]

Don't worry, guys. These are
all superficial wounds.

-You hear that, Feathers?
You're super.

-Pop, pass me
the anti-inflammatory ointment.

-You got it, Dr. D.

-I sure am glad
we have this dragon hospital.

You were right, D.
It is important.

-Wouldn't be as necessary
if Kullersen

didn't almost lead us
to our doom.

[Jun grunts]

-Seriously, Tom,

you should have waited
for Plow and me.

-Okay, okay. You're right.

And now that Buzzsaw
has reinforced his camp,

we're gonna have to figure out
another way to get the book.

- [chuckles] Hello.
- [happy chittering]

-Looks like you have
a new friend, Chief.

[Phil laughing]

- What's his name?
- Hm, Hobs.

I'm gonna build him a perch
on top of the big dome,

so he can be our lookout dragon.
[laughs]

-That is a great idea, Pop.

-The more eyes we have watchin'
out for Buzzsaw, the better.

I just hope
he doesn't burn this place

to the ground. [laughs]
