- Eric what are you doing?

- Eating toast.

- Why are you turning it upside down?

- Cause the taste buds are on the top of your tongue,

everyone knows that.

- [Amy Voiceover] Sometimes, I wonder about Eric and me.

I mean we're so different,

it's kind of a miracle we're together.

(alarm ringing)

For instance, I'm a morning person

(alarm ringing) and Eric's a morning person too,

very late morning person.

(pop music plays) I'm into pop music

and he likes pop too just heavy metal pop.

Then there are those weird sayings of his.

- Never eat pizza before you surf.

- Why not?

- Because it comes out your pores and sharks can smell it.

- [Amy Voiceover] But even though we're different,

we just seem to connect.

- Try it.

- Upside down.

No way.

- Go on, for me.

- I don't believe it, it actually tastes better.

- I told you!

- You're a dork you know that.

- Yeah, you want some more.

- [Amy Voiceover] Maybe it's that opposites attract,

I don't know but I really hate

to think of us ever not being friends.

(waves crashing)

- Fitness, that's what it's all about guys.

Especially with the finals only a few weeks away.

- You don't think we're fit enough?

- There's always room for improvement.

- You tryna soften us up for another K run?

- Oh please no.

- Well I'm not but we have a visitor

arriving today that might be.

- What visitor?

- [Simmo] One Connor Davies.

- The Connor Davies as in who won

the Junior Masters last year?

- And Rookie of the Year?

- Yeah, he signed a sponsorship deal with Solar Blue

and since he's one of the fittest guys on tour,

I've asked him to drop by, give you a few tips.

- Cool, be good to meet him.

- Make a change from you and Fly anyway.

- What, bored with us already?

- (imitates yamn) What makes you think that?

That's the guy.

- Yeah I remember him, Stats did a big story

on him last year.

He doesn't look much older than us.

- No he's not but he knows his stuff,

I've got some DVD's of him.

- Are you a secret member of the Connor Davies fan club?

- No.

- You sure, you got DVD's, posters,

next you'll have an autographed fin.

- Just think he's a good surfer okay.

- Hey guys, I think Connor's arrived.

- Nice.

- Time to meet your hero.

- He's not my hero.

- Hey sorry I'm late, the plane got delayed.

- No problem, guys meet Connor.

- [Group] Hey.

- Hey guys.

- So is this all your stuff?

- Yep, yeah.

- He is seriously cute.

- I noticed.

- Well, you want the grand tour?

- Oh d'you mind if I go for a surf first,

kinda wanna shake the jet lag.

- No worries, waves out the front.

- Good.

(upbeat surf music)

- Whoa, hate to see what he's like when he's not jet lagged.

- He can surf and he's cute.

- Does that make him doubly cute?

- Can we lay off the cute words for a couple minutes?

- Yeah it is getting boring even if it is true.

- Oi, watch it.

- Right people, fun time, Connor's gonna take you

for a fitness session so I expect you all to listen closely.

Any questions, just ask Fly.

- Thanks Simmo.

Look I'm a surfer not a coach,

but being on a circuit has taught me a few things

and one of those is if you wanna surf at the highest level,

you need to be fit, really fit, okay?

So let's start by getting into two teams,

girls on one, boys on the other.

- Right, battle of the sexes, let's do it.

Ahhh, oooh.

- Okay now what I've done is I've set a course

with a target time, if your team meets that target time

look that's great but if one member of your team doesn't

then the whole team pays in sit ups.

(Eric whistles)

Okay girl's team, you're up first, come on let's go.

("Boys & Girls" by Special)

That's it, keep it going, keep it going.

- This is a t*rture track.

- They're never gonna reach that target.

- Come on go for it, you're nearly there.

Nice one, you all made target, well done.

All right guys, your team.

- Pace yourselves, it's tough work.

- Very tough.

- Can't wait.

- We're cruising.

- You reckon?

Well in that case I make take seconds off your target.

- Thanks a lot fellas.

- You mind timing this one?

- Oh yeah sure.

- I might go for a run myself.

- Okay so on your marks, get set, go.

("Who's Coming Through The Window" by Betchadupa)

(Eric lightly screams in pain)

- Eric you okay?

- Should I stop timing, Eric's injured?

- [Connor] No, keep going.

- What happened?

- Just twisted my ankle, I'll be okay.

- All right, how did we do?

- Well everyone met their target, well except Eric.

- Sorry guys, that means sit ups, for the whole team.

- Your serious?

- [Connor] Afraid so.

- But I was injured.

- Yeah but that's the breaks, look in the real world

there's no second chances, trust me.

sit ups guys come on, let's go!

And since the girls team won,

you get a free surfing session.

- All right.

- Cool.

- Guys I would stay but those waves look a bit too good.

- Unbelievable.

- Come on guys, we knew the rules.

- Yeah but he's a sadist.

- Does anyone want a poster of Connor Davies, going cheap?

- Mate, I wouldn't wrap fish in it.

- Do I hear the sound of sour grapes?

- It's not sour grapes Aims, you saw what he did.

- Okay he was a bit tough but that's what we need

to get us in shape.

We'll be thanking him when we get to the finals.

- He cut seconds off our time

and didn't allow any time for when I got injured.

- You just don't like being pushed, that's all.

- It's like he's playing favorites,

there's one rule for the girls and one rule for the guys.

- You're only saying that because you can stand

being beaten by a bunch of girls.

- Forget it.

- Can I have this?

- You kidding.

- It's not for me, it's for Brook.

("Head Hurts" by Eskimo Joe)

- That's it guys come on you're almost there.

Well done, everyone finished inside target,

free surfing all round

and before you go, I just need a volunteer

to pack up all the gear, Eric how 'bout you?

- Why me?

- Don't winge, I'll give him a hand.

- Good on you, everyone else grab your boards and head in.

You did well today.

- Thanks.

- You know I've been impressed with your approach so far.

- You have?

- You're fit, you've got a great attitude

and to top it all off you've got

an excellent surfing technique.

Amy I think you've got real potential.

- Thanks.

- With the right training methods,

I think you could go all the way,

maybe even world number one.

- Okay now you're pulling my leg.

- No I'm being serious, look I shouldn't say this

but out of everyone here, you're the standout by a mile.

- World number one, I can't believe he said that.

- What so you think it's just a big joke do you?

- I didn't say that I just don't trust him.

- Why would he lie?

- Didn't you see the way he was looking at you?

- And what's that supposed to mean?

- Amy he's got the hots for you.

- Please.

- No he's buttering you up, that's what this is all about.

- That is so not true!

Why can't you handle another guy giving me a compliment?

- I can handle it usually.

- Well you're not handling it now,

how's this gonna work next year?

- Next year?

- Yeah what if one of us is on the World Tour

and one of us is back here,

are you gonna be jealous all the time?

- I don't know, maybe, I haven't thought about it.

- That's not gonna work is it?

You could change Eric, grow up a little.

- Why is it me that has to change?

- 'Cause if you can't handle this

we might as well give up now.

- Give up, on us you mean.

- That's right.

(sad music)

- So, where do we go from here?

- I really don't know.

- Maybe this is it.

- Maybe it is.

Did we really just break up?

How could that happen so fast?

- Hey, how you doing?

- Okay.

- [Connor] You don't look okay.

- Probably 'cause I'm not.

- What's up?

- Boyfriend trouble.

- Wanna talk about it or?

Fair enough.

Look.

I don't wanna stick my nose in

but I reckon the best way to deal with this kind of stuff

is just to throw yourself into your training.

- Training?

- Yeah, get it out of your head.

Tell you what, why don't I do you up

an individual training program,

that way you'll be so flat out you won't have time to think.

- You'd do that for me?

- It's all part of the service,

I'll just add it to Simmo's bill.

(Amy laughs)

- Oh, my muscles are so sore I can barely move.

- But that's a good thing, shows it's working.

- Sorry the no pain no gain approach is totally out of date.

- Whatever look at Connor, he's walking proof.

- Eric back me up, what do you think

about Connor's training methods?

- Shut up about Connor, if I never see

that jerk again it'll be too soon.

("Piece Of Wood" by Youth Group)

(knocking on door)

- You all right?

Thought you mighta drowned in here.

You and Eric aren't great huh?

- I think we just split up.

- Uh Aims, I'm so sorry.

- The weird thing is I don't even know how we got there.

- You've had a fight that's all,

give it time you'll patch things up.

- Doesn't feel that way.

- Just sleep on it, talk to him in the morning, okay?

(waves crashing)

- Now who wanted ham cheese and salad?

- Oh that's me.

- No it's mine.

- No, no, no, no, I'll flip you for it?

Okay, I'm heads, you're tails.

- Cory, I've seen that two headed coin before.

- Spoil sport.

- Sorry.

- No that was my fault.

- Eric.

- Yeah.

- I was wondering, do you wanna come

to the cafe this afternoon?

- Maybe, who's gonna be there?

- Nobody, oh me and you join.

- Okay, yeah that'd be good.

- Amy, Connor's looking for you.

- [Amy] What for?

- Something about a personalized training program,

he wants to see you before you go.

- So, personalized training now is it?

- It's not like that, anyway I'll see you at the cafe.

- Nah I just remembered I've got something else on.

- But you said that.

- I'm busy, so.

- You wanted to see me.

- Oh yeah, look I started work on your new program,

you wanna check it out?

- Thanks but I've gotta get ready for school and stuff.

- That's okay, take it with you.

You follow this and that talent of yours

will really start delivering.

- Do you mean that or are you just being nice?

- What makes you think I'm nice?

Seriously though, I wouldn't be doing this

if I didn't think you're worth it, okay.

- Okay.

- Still having boyfriend troubles?

- I don't think I have a boyfriend anymore.

- That bad huh?

Look tell you what, why don't we start

on your new program straight after school.

- This afternoon.

- Yeah, unless you're doing something else.

- Well I was, no that's fine.

- Great, see ya then.

- Hey marathon man, stop, unless you wanna give me CPR.

- Come on you can go a bit further.

- Not unless there's an ambulance on standby.

- Fine, I'll go on my own.

- No Eric this isn't going to work.

- Why not?

- Because he's super fit, you can't

get up to his level overnight.

- What else can I do Cory, I have to beat this guy.

- Well there is another way

but it's not entirely within the rules.

- The guy is stealing my girlfriend, there are no rules.

- Hi guys.

- Hi Connor.

- You going somewhere, I thought we were starting

the training program?

- We are, I'm taking you up to Heartley's beach,

it's got just the kind of breaks you need to practice on.

- What on our own?

- Yeah, it's an individual training program remember.

Grab ya board.

- Are you sure this is okay, I better ask Simmo.

- Oh don't worry, I already ran it by him,

he doesn't have a problem.

- Right.

- Go on, it's just what you need to get your mind off Eric.

- So any chance of getting there before Christmas?

- Coming, coming.

(phone ringing)

- Hello, hang on I'll check, is Connor around,

it's some friend of his.

- He went to Heartley's with Amy.

- Hello, yeah Connor's gone up to Heartley's beach,

okay, bye.

- Connor's gone up to Heartley's, since when.

- You know, he and Amy went up there to surf,

he said he ran it past you.

- Yeah, right.

- How was that?

- Great, you should be a full time coach.

- Ah it's easy when you've got a good student.

Yeah I've got a feeling we're gonna see

a lot more of each other next year.

- Won't you be back on the pro tour by then.

- That's what I mean,

the way you're surfing you'll be there too.

- I don't know, there's only two wildcards.

- Oh you'll get one, no sweat.

- Wish I was that confident.

- You should be, look you're really

something special you know that?

And I'm not just talking about surfing either.

- Hey no, I'm not tryna rush you into anything

but I just think what we've got here is really good

and I don't wanna throw it away.

Don't you feel the same?

I thought so.

Great, Angie, what are you doing here?

- Was about to ask you the same question,

I rang, they told me this is where you'd be.

Hi I'm Angelina, I'm Connor's girlfriend,

perhaps he forgot to mention me.

- Oh come on Angie look, she's just a kid,

I was giving her some surfing lessons,

I was doing her a favor.

- Who's doing who the favor?

- Hey don't be like that, look.

come and wash me out to sea

and make sure it drowns Connor on the way.

- Well are you coming?

- Okay, fine.

Guess you need a lift?

- No thanks, I'll walk.

- You can't just walk, it's too far, look.

- There's a bus, just go all right.

- Is this a joke?

- Nah, d'you reckon you can beat me in a race?

- [Connor] Are you serious?

- The first one back over this line wins, easy.

- And you really think you can beat me?

- The loser gets sit ups.
