- [Mike Voiceover] When I got into Solar Blue,

I couldn't wait to move into a house full of people.

All my life, I've been an only child.

Now, it was like having an instant family.

- Dig in, everyone.

- Then, I started to discover

that not everything about families

was all that I had dreamed about.

Is that lunch?

I'm starving.

- Sorry.

We started without you,

but there's one chip left.

- It's not that I mind sharing,

but sometimes it goes a step too far.

Or make that, like, five steps.

My toothbrush is the red.

- No, yours is green.

- No, we got new toothbrushes yesterday.

You picked green.

- Did I?

- I got red.

- You sure?

- Positive.

- Hm. (spits)

(water running)

No worries, there you go.

- [Mike Voiceover] Three guys,

all sharing one bathroom and one bedroom.

Couldn't be more fun, could it?

(computer beeping) (Eric snoring)

- Come on, get outta my way.

That's it.

Up, yep.

Brake.

- Corey, it's half-past .

- So?

- When are you gonna go to sleep?

- Not long, I'm just gonna finish this level.

If I lose, get outta the way.

That's it, yes.

- Can't you turn that down?

- Yeah, but then I can't hear it.

- Ah!

- What's the problem?

I do this every night.

- That's the problem.

- You wanna play multiplayer?

- No, I wanna go to sleep.

- Scared I'm gonna beat you.

- Are you five years old?

- What are you on about?

(cars crashing)

You put me off, you made me crash!

- Me?

- Now I have to start that level all over again.

- And what about the girls?

Sharing a house with those chicks every day.

That's gotta be paradise, doesn't it?

- Mike, don't take this personally,

but that top does not go with those shorts.

- It doesn't?

- She's right. - Shocker.

- What's wrong with it?

- Navy and black?

- Definitely don't mix.

- You look like a Bruce.

- [Mike Voiceover] Always people to give you advice.

Tell you what to do.

- Oh, and it's your turn to do the washing up.

- [Mike Voiceover] They even organize

your whole life for you.

- Hey.

- Hey.

- I know we planned this night just for the two of us,

but the girls would love to see this movie.

- That's great.

- We going somewhere?

- The movies.

- Oh, sweet.

Hey, Corey, movies!

- Oh, excellent.

- Sweet, I'll go get Fly.

- Yeah. - Hey, Fly!

- [Mike Voiceover] It's enough to drive a guy crazy.

Sometimes, I just wanna go back to the old days.

When it was just me, Mike Kruze, nobody else,

for miles and miles and miles.

(cards riffling)

- Way to go, man, that's going for .

- What is he doing?

- Sh, he's concentrating.

- [Mike] I mean, what is he doing with the cards?

- Breaking the record.

- What record?

- Ned Warner's record.

- Who's, I'm not gonna ask.

- Back home Lindara, Ned Warner's house of card record

was , took him days.

- That's .

- Nice, next up , then .

- [Corey] to go.

- No, no, no, if you want the record.

- Oh. - I need my homework.

- Where?

- There.

- Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, no, no, no, no. That's too risky.

- It's the history assignment.

The one that Brooke and I are doing.

- It can't happen, Mike.

- But--

- Any disturbance near the construction site

could result in a catastrophic change in air pressure.

- Guys, please.

- I need my assignment.

- You should have thought of that

before you left it there.

- But I put it on the desk where it should be.

- You're stuffing my concentration.

- [Eric] ?

Ned Warner's quaking in his thongs, man.

- This is madness.

Simmo, I need my own room.

- Why?

- My roommates are insane.

The spare room, it's just got some junk in it.

I can clean it out and I could have that.

- Hang on, why does he get it? - Because I need it.

- But what about us?

What if one of us wants our own room?

- What?

You don't wanna share with me, anymore?

- No one is having that room.

- [Corey] That's .

- Next up, .

- I said I need my assignment.

♪ Not the same that your on your own now ♪

- No!

♪ With no direction, plus your old town ♪

- Tell me you didn't just do that.

- Ned Warner sends his regards.

- You!

- Corey, get off him.

(men grunting)

Stop it!

- What are you doing?

It was serious, Simmo.

They weren't just mucking around.

- Right.

Someone wanna enlighten me as to what's happening here?

(birds chirping)

I've got all day.

- He stopped me from breaking the record.

- What record?

- Ned Warner's record.

- Who's Ned Warner?

- Exactly.

- I spent hours building this house of cards.

- Why? - What?

- What's the point?

Why waste your time?

- Okay, so it was pointless.

But that's the whole point.

- That's ridiculous.

- Enough.

You can both consider yourselves grounded for the weekend.

- Yeah, but--

- Unless you wanna try for a week.

Right.

- What's up with those two lately?

They've been at each other all the time.

- Classic case of cabin fever, I'd say.

- Cabin fever?

- You know, cooped up together all day long,

doing the same thing day in, day out.

School, surfing, school, surfing.

- We could go down the coast for the weekend.

- I'm thinking a complete change of scenery.

Somewhere without a wave in sight.

- Sounds unnatural.

- Yeah, well, these places do exist, Fly,

even if you've never been to them.

- If you say so.

- Actually, I've got an old school friend, Russ,

owns an outdoor adventure company.

He owes me a few favors.

- So, what are you thinking?

- Well, I'm thinking bonding weekend.

We come back here, one big happy family.

("f*cking the Exhibits" by Faker)

- [Corey] I spy with my little something beginning with L.

- Loser.

- Was that supposed to be funny?

- It was your idea to play this stupid game.

- Cut it out, you two.

- He started it.

- Can't you take a joke?

- Who stole all the red jelly snakes?

- So you're gonna blame me for that, too?

- Wouldn't surprise me.

- Guys!

- So, when does the bonding start?

(horn honks)

- G'day, Simmo.

- How's it going?

- Can't complain.

- Makes a change.

Everyone, I'd like you to meet Russ,

my old rowing partner.

- How you going, Russ. - Good to meet you all.

- You wanna tell 'em what you've got in store for 'em?

- Well, Simmo here tells me you like

doing a little bit of surfing?

- Yeah, only every chance we get.

- Okay, well, when you're in a surf comp,

you're basically competing against one another, right?

- May the best man win, and I usually do.

- Oh, that's not what the scoreboard says.

- By morning, it will.

- Okay, well this weekend is all about winning, too.

But it's about learning how to win as a team.

- Russ has got a few surprises planned.

First race starts in an hour.

- What race?

("Bodies" by Faker)

- It's a triathlon.

But you'll be paired up in teams.

First leg, canoe, Ks, not too hard.

Then bike ride, Ks, but only half of that's uphill.

Third leg, orienteering, Ks,

navigating with a map and compass.

The winner is the first team back at camp.

So, any questions?

- Yeah, what'd you say about teams?

- Ah, this is where it gets interesting.

Fly, will you hold my hat?

I have your names written on these pieces of paper.

They go into the hat.

Stir it around.

(students laughing)

The first team is Brooke

and Amy.

- [Both] Yeah.

- Next team will be Eric.

- Drum roll.

(fingers banging on table)

- With Rachael.

- Rachael! - All right!

- So that just leaves Mike and Corey,

who I'm sure will be a wonderful example

of teamwork at its best.

♪ And you're off the rails again ♪

- This is not like surfing.

It's about working together.

No point in being the fastest

if you don't communicate with your teammate.

- When you pulled those bits of paper out,

you never showed us whose names were on them.

- No.

- So, Mike and Corey ending up together,

it was just a coincidence?

- That's for me to know and you to never find out.

- [Russ] Here we are.

- [Brooke] There are four canoes.

- Yeah, there are eight of you.

I was counting on you and Fly.

- [Brooke] You better join us, then.

- I don't think so.

- Come on.

Personally, I think you need to work

on your teamwork, Simmo.

- Yes, you can come across a little bossy.

- Yeah, you were like that even when we rode together.

- No. - Yes.

- No! - Yes!

- [Russ] Looks like you're outvoted, Simmo.

- What do you reckon, Fly?

- They're happy to be slaughtered.

- Bring it on.

- Yeah, Simmo! - All in!

- Why do I get the feeling you've set Simmo up?

Lemme guess, for you to know, me to never find out.

- Exactly.

(Eric whistles)

- Hey, none of that.

- What?

- Are you gonna be totally committed

when your boyfriend's on the other team?

- Are you serious?

This is girl power.

Override all dull boy stuff.

- Yeah, good answer.

- Are we ready? - I'll get in the back.

- Why? - The guy on the back steers.

I've had more experience.

- (laughs) Says who?

- Okay everybody line up.

- [Mike] No time to argue about it now.

- I'll take the back, then.

- On your marks.

- I'll take the back.

- Go.

- We agreed I'd take the back. - [Corey] You agreed.

- Just get in the front!

- Who made you boss?

- I've got more experience than you.

- I'm listening, Mike, I'm listening.

- You don't even know how to steer.

- I'm listening, la, la, la.

- Fellas, fellas. I'd get after that boat if I was you

before it goes halfway to Sydney.

- Look what you did. - Oh!

- [Russ] Bring it back in.

You'll have to bring it back to shore to drain her out.

- I was right.

Bike leg will be better.

- Yeah, it's been a while since I've ridden a bike,

but you know what they say.

(whooshing)

- They're tandem bikes.

- Russ is gonna pay for this.

- Paddle faster, will you?

Stay in rhythm.

- I've got rhythm.

You just need to stay in sync.

- We're on the same team, here.

It's not a competition.

- Oh, I know.

You're not only letting me down,

you're also letting the team down.

- Just paddle faster, will you?

- [Fly] Clockwise, you pedal clockwise.

- [Simmo] Yeah, I remember that much, Fly.

It would help if the seat was a little bit higher.

- It's okay, we're in front.

- Take it easy, Simmo.

- Really?

- Yep, whatever you're doing, just keep on doing it.

- Sweet.

- Told you you'd get the hang of it.

- Yeah, right.

- We could toss a coin, heads gets to steer.

- Do you have a coin? - No, do you?

- What do you reckon?

- I was just asking, all right?

- We're wasting time, you steer.

Not if you're gonna use that kinda voice.

- What voice?

- The I'm a bigger person because I let you steer voice.

- Do you ever wanna finish this race?

- No, not while we're having so much fun along the way.

- Great stuff, guys.

You're in the front.

Good, nice work.

There are five control points.

You have to pick up a different color bulldog clip

from each one to prove that you passed them.

Okay, good luck.

- Okay, how do we recognize a control point?

- Oh, you'll know when you see 'em.

- The first one is here. It's along the fence line.

- Okay, so wait, that's easy.

That's this way.

- Yeah. - All right, let's go.

- [Corey] Pedal faster.

- [Mike] We're going fast enough.

- [Corey] We've gotta catch up.

- [Mike] I'd like to finish the race in one piece.

- Do you have to disagree with everything I say?

- Just keep your eyes on the road.

- I am. - Look out!

(tires screech)

- We'd better get a move on

or we'll never catch Eric and Rachael.

- Hold on, we're better off going this way.

It's a bit further but we end up going by the road

and it'll be quicker in the end.

- I like my partner.

- Stick with her, she's good.

♪ I cannot smile ♪

- The wheel's buckled.

- We're lucky we're not buckled, too.

I told you we were going too fast.

We're going to have to push it.

- I can fix this.

- How? We don't have any tools.

- I can use this.

This is what the bush is all about, being resourceful.

- We're wasting time.

- It'll take two seconds.

- Hey guys, what took you so long?

- He stopped pedaling.

- You what?

- She told me not to.

- Simmo, you're a shocker.

- What about you?

Tandem bikes.

- Yeah, at least that's one less I owe you.

- At least I've learned something about teamwork from this.

- [Russ] Well that's great, what's that?

- That you should always make sure you choose

who your teammates are.

- Very funny.

- [Mike] That was a total waste of time.

I told you we needed tools.

- [Corey] Well, if you had've given me a bit more time,

I could've fixed it.

- We would've been here all night.

- Why are you so negative?

- I'm not negative.

You're just really annoying.

- You are negative.

You're negative all the time these days.

I'm only saying it as a favor.

- Favor?

- Yeah, it's a statistical fact

that negative people aren't very popular.

- Thanks for your concern, but right now,

I would love to be unpopular

because then you and everyone else

wouldn't be in my face hours a day.

- So it's everyone else who's the problem, is it?

- Actually, it is.

- (laughs) Here's a big secret,

I don't need to be in your face.

I couldn't be bothered to be in your face.

- Someone didn't see the fallen branch.

- [Mike] I'll take that.

- Can you tell him I should be in charge of the map?

- Tell him there's no chance that ever happening.

- We worked it out.

We work better if we ignore each other.

Now just gotta keep the lake on our left

and head back to camp.

- Yeah, let's just do it quickly.

- [Corey] Where are we going?

- [Mike] I didn't think you wanted to talk to me, anymore.

- [Corey] No, that was you, remember?

But this is getting a bit dodgy, where are we?

- We just have to keep going straight.

We're here, see?

Next control point is there.

We just cut through here, we don't have to go around

and it's a lot shorter, okay?

- No way.

We've gotta turn back.

- Why?

- It's gonna get very steep there.

- There's nothing marked on the map.

There's not even a hill.

Come on.

- It's a topographic map, you idiot.

Slopes are made with contour lines.

Each representing meters.

See how they get very close together right here?

It's gonna get seriously steep.

We have to go back.

- Look, we went with you and your stupid idea

to try and fix the bike, now we can go with mine.

- Go with your stupid idea.

I'll start with a glass of ice cold water

followed by a foot massage.

- Mike, it's getting dangerous.

- We're almost there.

We came second so we shouldn't have to do it.

- For a moment there,

I was actually pleased to see everyone.

- At least we beat Mike and Corey.

- They're a long way behind.

They've had a couple of bits of bad luck along the way.

- Ow!

What are you doing?

- Give me your foot.

Your ankle's sprained.

It's starting to swell.

You're gonna need a bandage.

- Ow!

- Must have left my medical kit

along with the bike repair kit.

- Ow!

- Yeah, why do I find that hard to believe?

Ow! - Sorry.

You okay?

- Yeah, apart from my ankle.

- There you go.

- [Mike] What are gonna do now?

- You're the one who wanted to be in charge.

Okay, let's get up, see if you can

put some weight on this foot.

- [Mike] Ow!

- Okay, I'll take that as a no.

Let's go to plan B.

You stay here, I'll go and get help.

- It's gonna be dark soon.

Sure you're gonna be able to find me again?

- You'll be all right.

Try not to miss me too much.

- [Mike] You sure this is the best idea?

- Hey, make the most of it.

This is your chance to have some time on your own.

No one in your face, no one for miles and miles.

- I think I feel like another drink.

- [Both] Get it yourself.

- What happened to being waited on?

- There's only half an hour of daylight left.

- You think we should start looking for them?

- Where to start is the problem.

- Yeah, first rule of the bush is you don't separate.

- Hang on, wasn't it you that just went off

charging down the gully

- Ow!

- Sorry, I just needed my shoulder back.

- Yeah, you could've given me a little bit of warning.

- We should go this way.

- If you say so.

- What, you're letting me decide?

- Isn't that what you wanted?

- I never said that.

You're the one that wanted to be in control the entire time.

- No, I didn't.

Come on, I need my dinner.

- Okay, good.

Guys, Russ'll give us minutes

then he calls emergency services.

Teams of two, fanning out from here.

You've got torches just in case.

- Hang on, is that?

- It is.

- I knew the idea was to get them bonding

but that's taking it a bit far, don't you reckon?

(all laughing)

- You wanna stay warm.

- Thanks, Brooke.

- [Amy] Here you go.

- Just a sprain, no need to take the leg off.

- Thanks, Simmo, Russ.

- Yeah.

- Thanks for the piggyback.

- You owe me one.

And you've still gotta admit that going down that gully

was the dumbest thing ever.

- Not as dumb as waiting for you to try and fix that bike.

- I could've fixed it.

- You could never have fixed it.

- Would you two stop arguing?

- We're not arguing.

We're just having a discussion.

- I'm arguing. - Ugh.

- Make up your minds,

'cause one of you owes me a foot massage.

- Ooh.

(men laughing)

- [Mike Voiceover] Okay, so families can be difficult.

They can even drive you crazy.

But, at the end of the day,

it's better to have a family than not.

At least you've got someone to argue with.
