[rock music playing]

[music ends]

[Mark] Dr. Berke told us he didn't want us
messing with the stainless steel body

because that's the signature look
of a DeLorean.

But when this car rolls out
of Gotham Garage,

I don't want it looking like
every other DeLorean out there.

So my guys found
this jaw-dropping red wrap

with a chopped carbon fiber look
that I've never seen before.

This is gonna be the look
that the doc never knew he wanted,

but he's not gonna be able
to live without it.

[Jake] I think it looks k*ller,

and what's a trip is it looks like
a whole other car

once that stainless isn't there.

Well, we've got a lot to do.
Let's get this thing happening.

[Mark] To really bring this '80s icon
into this decade,

we're finishing this build
with all the accents,

including modern wheels and tires

and custom brass badging
that'll really pop against this red color.

[soft rock music playing]

[Mark] Starting with an underpowered,
stainless steel '80s icon,

we upgraded it to a modern sports car.

With the performance-enhancing
custom exhaust

and the suspension upgrades,

to the streamlined look
and the aerodynamics

from the front air dam
and the rear diffuser,

the new leather interior
and the stunning new red wrap,

Gotham Garage has created
a unique DeLorean

that breaks that stainless steel mold.

[Shawn] That's got me a bit worried.

I mean, the DeLorean is
the least-customized car on the planet.

Pretty much they like 'em one way,
and that's the way they bought 'em.

I don't know what he's gonna expect,
but let's hope he likes it.

[Mark] I'm happy with it.

We've customized a DeLorean
as much as you can customize a DeLorean.

Yeah. Yeah.

[Shawn] We're revealing the DeLorean
to Dr. Burke in this parking lot,

which is a perfect homage to Marty McFly
getting his car time traveling

at the Twin Pines Mall.

I'm just hoping that the doc likes
this wild red wrap that Mark insisted on.

-Oh, this is your guy coming at us now.
-I think this is him.

-[Mark] All right.
-[Shawn] Oh, now that's him.

-How's it going, buddy?
-I'm good.

[Shawn] All right.

Nice to see you again.

This is Mark.

-Nice to meet you.
-Hey, Mark.

So, are we excited or what?

I'm very excited. Yes.

-Been waiting a long time to see this car.
-I'm excited.

The best thing to do is to show it to you
and see how you like it.

Okay, I'm ready.

[Shawn] Rip off the Band-Aid.
Get in there.

[Dr. Berke] Let's see the baby.

-Are you ready for this?
-Yes.

[Shawn] This is the big moment.

This is when we're gonna find out
if Dr. Berke likes the wild look,

or is he gonna yell at us
for violating the one rule

and not pay us
until we rip the wrap off this car?

[engine roars]

[Shawn] Go ahead, Doc.
Turn around. Take a look at that.

[engine revs]

Oh, man. You made it red.

[tense music playing]

[Mark] What do you think?

-[chuckles softly]
-[Mark] What do you think?

I love it. It's great.

-[Shawn] A little different than before?
-I love this.

As the car came off the truck, I thought,

"This is either gonna be
really disappointing or really good."

And when I finally saw it,
I said, "I love it."

That's so cool.

-[Mark] So you like the color, huh?
-I love it.

[Dr. Berke] I did tell them
not to touch the stainless steel look,

but these guys know what they're doing,
and it looks incredible.

[Mark] This is actually a wrap.

It's actually a candy red
over a chopped carbon fiber look.

We also fabricated
this air dam out of metal,

and it actually bolts
to the factory mounts underneath the car.

We also continued it around the bottom.

We put the rockers on.

Then around back,
we made this steel diffuser.

[Dr. Berke] Very cool.

[Mark] Here's the motor.

You can look in there
and see that custom exhaust.

-That's what's giving you some ponies now.
-Yeah. Wow. That looks great.

We just kind of brought it
into the future.

-Did we bring it Back to the Future?
-No, we brought it into the future.

[Dr. Berke] It's in the future.

[Shawn] Is it what you were expecting?

-No, it's much better.
-That's what we wanna hear.

That's what we wanna hear.

Now, you said
this thing was driving… like a dog.

You didn't want a dog.

So, Doc, what speed do we need to hit

to make you feel you're getting
the dream car you've always wanted?

I wanted it to go at least 88
to get into time travel, you know.

All right. You know
that speedometer only goes to 85, right?

Well, I think I can get it up to
at least 88, maybe even faster.

You wanna do the honors of--

You know me.
Anytime I can go fast, I'm already there.

[rock music playing]

[engine starts]

Okay. Here we go.

[music continues]

[engine revving]

[tires squealing]

Go! Go! Go!

Go! Go! Go!

[beeps]

Ninety-four!

[exclaiming excitedly]

-Whoa, baby.
-Yes.

-How about that, Doc?
-All right. You got it.

Doc, has your car ever went
ninety-four miles an hour?

[Dr. Berke] No, not until tonight.

-How'd I do?
-Ninety-four!

-Oh, sweet.
-[laughs]

We just met his dream expectation here.

That's the good thing about it.

That's what we do.
We make dreams come true.

You can hear it. It was buzzing.

-It was moving.
-It was majorly buzzing at 90--

It's fun to drive.

-It's actually fun to drive.
-Yeah, I can tell.

This is the car
I thought I was buying 40 years ago.

-[Mark] Awesome. Sweet.
-[Shawn] There we go.

If you're happy, we're happy.

-I'm happy.
-Awesome.

-Happy is good.
-Yeah.

Let's get over to the truck and get paid.

Okay. You guys got it.

[music ends]

Man, you know, I still can't believe
the wrap on the DeLorean.

I can't believe
Dr. Berke would even like that.

[Mark] People think
they like the stainless

'cause that's all they've seen.
They've never seen one

painted or wrapped or anything else,

then they go, "Oh my God,

that's such a beautiful car now that
I'm not looking at my refrigerator."

Oh, and the look on his face
when he first saw the DeLorean? Oh, man.

[Mark] That was a good deal.
That was a fun build.

Everybody was stoked about it.

Everybody's spirits are up
a little bit at the shop.

-[Shawn] I love it.
-Now that we're done and paid,

I guess we need to check in on old Nick
and see how he's doing with that Ferrari.

[line ringing]

[Nick] Hey, Mark.

Hey, Nick.
Everything went great with the DeLorean.

-He was stoked.
-[Nick] Yeah.

Got a little cash in the pocket.

I'm just wondering
how it's going with the yellow Ferrari.

[Nick sighs] It's… slow-going.

I've been up there on my phone,

every broker I know
trying to find somebody.

You know, Ferrari is a rarity.
A Ferrari buyer is a rarity.

You've got guys
that want little bits and pieces,

but no one that's prepared
to let you run wild

and express yourself artistically
on the car.

I know they're out there.
I just haven't found one yet.

-All right. Well, keep me posted on it.
-[Nick] Keep you posted.

-All right. I'll talk to you soon. Later.
-[Nick] All right, man. Take care. Bye.

[Mark] That's not at all
what I wanted to hear.

I thought I was gonna have a lot
of patience for this thing, but I don't.

My patience is wearing thin
after doing this DeLorean,

and it's really fun, and it has issues,
but we work our way through it.

We problem-solve.

Everybody's in a much better mood,

and yes, I disobeyed the client,
but ultimately, he loved my vision.

I don't really think I want to chase
these high-end clients anymore.

[Shawn] Yeah. I know
where you're coming from.

It's-- It's tough.
That's a tough thing to do.

["I'm the Hunter, You're the Prey"
playing]

♪ Yeah, I'm the hunter, you're the prey… ♪

[Tony] Okay.

What if our DeLorean really was
a time machine. Where would you go?

I would go back to any time before I had
adult responsibilities and bills.

I'm stuck in the '80s.
I'd definitely go back to the '80s.

When I had some thick a*s hair,
and I was thin.

You know what I'd like to see?

Go back in time, and it'd be the 1900s
when the first cars were being built

and check out Henry Ford and the Model A.

-[Mark] You guys look cheerful and happy.
-[Tony] Hey.

Having a little party.
You got two more of those down there?

-Hey.
-I'm doing a peek-a-boo down there?

-Yeah. No. I was waiting for you guys.
-[Shawn] There we go.

-Thank you very much.
-[Caveman] You're welcome.

Two hours peace, please.

How you guys doing?
You seem all in pretty good spirits.

For the first time in a while,

once we got into the DeLorean
and kind of got flowing again,

I was excited to come to work.

Designing what we wanna design,
making the stuff we wanna make,

man, that was fun.

I wanna get back
to doing projects like that.

Yeah, on builds like the DeLorean,
we really all get to shine,

but on the high-end stuff, we just don't.

We like to cut stuff.
We like to fabricate stuff.

That's part of the transformation
when you take, like, the DeLorean,

a simple car, but you turn it into
something completely different,

and the client's stoked about it.
And when it leaves, you're proud of it.

I've spent years
getting this garage to the point

that we get to work on
some of the most elite cars in the world,

but it's clear
that the team is feeling what I am,

that sometimes
the vision and reality just don't line up.

I like it when we build cars,

and we don't even need
to put a badge on it,

and everybody knows
what shop it came from.

I don't know about you guys, but I wanna
get back to doing what we used to.

-Cut up cars and have some fun.
-I agree.

-Yes.
-[Tony] I'm with you, Caveman.

[Mark] Sounds like it might be time
to have a serious discussion with Nick

about where we go from here.

[Tony] Yeah, I know
that's not how you wanted this to go,

but this doesn't seem to be
the right direction right now.
