This Tesla that I brought into the shop

has been a major setback financially,

and right now

we have a potential trade on the table

that just might get this car

out from underneath us once and for all.

Originally, Mark wanted to sell

this car for 90 grand.

But if I can pull off

a trade for some cars,

plus a significant amount of cash,

I might just be able to get him on board.

That car is worth 90 grand.

So this guy better be willing

to throw down some cash

on top of his cars,

or this deal is never gonna happen.

You don't need to worry.

converting gas cars to electric.

So to have a car go the other way,

from electric to gas,

that has major appeal

to a hot rod lover like me.

That's the best part of this thing.

It's the only Tesla that makes a racket.

eight people at the shop

that need to get paid out on this car.

But he knows that we got to get

at least 90 grand in value for this Tesla.

So I'll start by hitting him high,

but my end goal is

to sh**t for a 60-30 split.

At least 60 grand in cash

and 30 grand in vehicles.

a bunch of shiny new junk,

that doesn't mean

we can lose sight of our bigger goal

with Nick and this new business venture.

drop it on the tank,

put a g*n turret, flamethrower,

is out of the way,

I fully expect Nick to get us

our next big high-end client very quickly.

And when that happens,

we're definitely gonna have to dedicate

all of our resources to that project.

So that's why I wanna put

most of these vehicles in storage

and focus on getting that truck done fast.

I'm only giving Tony, Jake, and Constance

ten grand on this truck project.

Straighten it out.

If I know anything about Tony,

burning through ten grand

shouldn't take him any time at all.

So he's gonna have to get creative.

so we can get it mounted up on that tank.

wheels and tires if we lower it.

I mean, it's not gonna be cool

lowered on these wheels and tires.

And anybody that's

gonna spend 30, 35 or more

is gonna want a decent interior.

What's in there is not decent,

so we have to do something with it.

-Now, I can paint it.

Free 99 plus materials.

Ten grand might seem like a ton of money,

but, honestly,

when you're buying car parts,

it goes like that.

-Nothing's off-limits.

-We can have it.

[Constance] I mean, just the basics.

You're talking materials,

small parts, interior,

that can take away

half that budget easily.

It'd be cool to airbag it.

If we can put this thing on the ground,

that'd be next-level.

Okay, well, that's expensive.

If we're talking about

an air ride kit to lower this car,

that could be $5,000 right there.

I might have to regulate this whole budget

because if I leave this

up to Tony and Jake,

they're definitely gonna burn through

that ten grand before lunch.

We're gonna be really tight

on that $10,000 budget.

If we can get creative, maybe find

some deals and some good parts.

I actually think I saw

an airbag kit in storage

when I was there a few months ago.

is we'll get this long bed unbolted

and off the truck.

I think this is the easy part.

Alright, look. Full disclosure.

I might not be the best

at managing a build on a tight budget,

but I think we have a pretty good plan

to make a badass Gotham Garage truck.

First up,

we're gonna blow this truck apart.

We're gonna lift off the long bed

and drop out the suspension.

To give it a shorter bed,

we need to chop down the frame

and then mount up a shorter bed to fit.

[cash register dings]

And if Constance can track down

that airbag suspension kit in storage,

that'll be our big modification.

We're gonna make this truck sit

low to the ground at the push of a button.

After that, I'm gonna paint it

with a '60s color scheme.

Then we'll finish it off

with some brand-new wheels and tires,

a custom interior, plus give it

a couple of unique Gotham touches.

If we can stick to that plan,

it should land us right at

or even under ten grand.

Looking good, but we just made

a lot more work for ourselves.

[Jake] Yeah, we sure did.

[Tony] We need to start

figuring out our short bed,

figure out our suspension,

where to cut the bed,

-where the axle is gonna land.

-Yeah.

Of course, the big thing,

Constance, is airbags.

[Constance] So what you're saying is,

I need to go rummage around

in our dusty storage facility.

[Tony] Yeah.

[Mark] So what we need to do is

we need to work on mounting

that '35 Ford body on top of this tank.

We need to cut the roof off of it.

While Tony, Jake, and Constance

overhaul that '70s Chevy truck,

Caveman, Brian, and I are gonna

move forward on our tank car build.

Our client on this project

is a guy named Fred,

who's a buddy of Nick's,

and he owns a huge motorsports park

up in Lake Elsinore.

He's given us 55 grand

to turn this thing into a rat rod tank car

to promote his park.

That's what I'm after.

And about a week from now, Fred's having

a huge motocross event up there

and he wants to put this car on display.

-Roll cage for sale.

-[laughs]

[Mark] Even though we've got it

running and driving,

we still have a lot left to do

if we're gonna meet that deadline.

All right, so this car

goes on top of that tank.

[Brian] I thought we were

supposed to do something.

-[Mark chuckles] Yeah.

-[chuckles]

[Mark] First things first,

we gotta mount this '35 Ford body

on top of this M29 Weasel.

Now we drive this outside

like Fred Flintstone.

Not only does this '35 Ford body

match the look we're going for,

but it also seems like

it'll fit pretty good on top of this tank.

[Brian] Go, go, go!

[Mark] That's the whole reason

we got it during the Tesla trade.

That's a good place to stop.

But the question now becomes

just how good of a fit is it?

All right, Caveman. Go down.

A few inches off here and there

could bury us with a lot of welding

and grinding just to make it fit right.

Why does it have to be off center

that much? It's, like, that much.

[Caveman] We might

have to finagle it a bit.

The next step is to weld this body

to the tank and lock it down.

But our bigger issue is gonna be moving

all those steering controls upwards

so they'll fit.

what are we looking at here?

Some great options

of some projects that have come up.

interested in having work done.

a guy I know with a Lamborghini

wants to put a body kit on it.

-An old Jag there.

Yeah, he's interested in

making a restomod out of it.

Man, that would really

tie up the shop for quite a while.

Now that we finally got

the Tesla trade off our back,

and the shop is moving full steam ahead,

Mark wants Nick to track us down

our next high-end project.

And it's a race car,

so it doesn't have to be perfect.

Mark would love that,

to be honest with you.

It's amazing.

[Shawn] He wants something big,

something that can make a statement

and get our new business venture

with Nick back on track.

Um, there's another option

that's available.

I've been calling around clients

and there's one word that keeps popping up

when we start talking custom cars.

What's that word?

People are talking about

a super-modified over-the-top Ferrari.

-[clicks tongue] Oh geez. Ouch.

-I'm still a bit puckered

-Yeah

from the last situation

that involved a Ferrari.

We just got off the phone

with the Ferrari owner and, uh

the deal's off.

-Really?

-[Jake] What?

[Tony] You gotta be kidding.

-But this is different.

This would be a car that we buy outright

and then sell on spec.

Mark wanted a build

that would make a statement,

and a Ferrari

would definitely do just that.

If we buy a Ferrari,

do the modifications to it,

I think that we can make some great money,

-and there'll be a lot of interest in it.

-Mm-hmm.

[Nick] Not many shops

have the fortitude to modify a Ferrari,

but if Mark can put his thumbprint

on a build like this,

not only would it be a huge payday,

but it would also be

the type of signature build

that'd get my entire client list talking.

I know that there's not

a lot of custom Ferraris out there.

-And we're trying to establish this shop.

-No doubt about that.

I thought my clients would trust

my faith in Gotham right off the bat,

but that's not happening

as quickly as I wanted.

So if the goal's been to establish

Gotham within my circle of clients,

then this car will accelerate

that process exponentially.

Well, as long as you think

you've got buyers for this

-I do. There's a market for this.

-Yeah.

I like it. So what do you think

is the next step here?

Well, I'm gonna have to beat the bushes

and see if I can find a deal on a Ferrari.

So if you find the right Ferrari,

I guess the next step

will be just selling it to Mark.

-Ah, piece of cake. We can do that.

I had to go through so much dust,

but I found all of this stuff in storage.

[Tony] Okay. So let's cut the frame.

We'll get the shorter bed mounted first,

then we'll move on

to setting up the airbags.

[Jake] Awesome.

[Tony] As far as I know,

this model year crew cab truck

never came as a short bed.

-[Jake] Perfect. Oh yeah.

-[Tony] It looks better already.

So for us to completely modify the frame,

it's gonna make this a very unique truck.

Spin it that way.

Up to the side of the truck,

and then we'll let it down.

And even though this is

a labor-intensive modification,

it's pretty cost-effective.

The only hard cash we need to spend

is getting a new bed,

and that was only about 1,500 bucks.

-Okay.

-[Jake] It's a short bed now, Tony.

[Tony] This truck is already

worth more money.

[Jake] Oh, for sure.

[Tony] All right.

So, now, let's get our airbags mounted

and see if we can

drop this thing on the ground.

[Constance] Sounds good.

Airbags on a truck

are a super desirable feature.

One, they're actually

a really functional modification.

Depending on where you're driving,

you can raise and lower your car

to fit whatever environment you're in.

I think we're good, Jake.

Come down a bit and see what happens.

And two, honestly,

it just looks freaking cool.

[Tony] That's it right there.

I think it all looks pretty good.

All right, let's test our work here.

First try? No problems?

-[Constance] Have fun.

Well, tire's gone. Passing the wheel.

That's where, uh, the tire hits.

So we'll just mount the tank,

compressors, some air lines.

We're pretty much done.

So next up, I think

we can start body working this thing.

So basically,

it's this drawing right here.

These are the upper arms.

These are the lower arms.

These are together

like this and like that.

And then we have left and right steering,

but all of this gets made

so it can sit above all that mechanism.

[Mark] We've only got a few days left

until this motocross event.

And our biggest issue right now

is that everything in the c*ck

has to be moved up about three feet

just so you can see

out of the windshield when you drive.

Our biggest challenge

is moving the steering controls.

-From paper to reality.

-[Mark] Just like that.

So next, we'll cut some handles,

and then bend them, and weld them on.

If you guys

wanna make steps to get in this

because it's high off the ground.

That can get done.

There's a whole lot of geometry

and a whole lot

of engineering going on here.

So hopefully this works

because we don't have a whole lot

of time left to figure this out.

Well, we have a few cosmetic things to do

and then we're ready for paint.

All the mechanical is done.

And if all goes well,

we should be able to deliver

this tank on time.

about ready to paint that Chevy truck,

so I'm gonna go help him with that.

So once he's done,

I wanna go all hands on deck

and help those guys finish that project.

[Tony] For the paint on this truck,

I wanna go with a classic '60s-style look.

We're gonna do white on the top

so it looks super clean,

and then I'm going turquoise

on the bottom.

And I want to give it

an orange stripe right down the middle

so it looks super symmetrical.

The best part is

that we're only into the paint job

for the cost of the materials,

which is about 1,500 bucks.

Not too shabby

for a custom hot rod paint job.

I think the truck turned out

pretty badass, myself.

-Where'd you land on budget?

-[Tony] Just under.

Really? Under ten grand to get all this?

-Yep.

-Well, I'm stoked.

I can't wait to see it put back together

and rolling down the road.

-Yeah, there's not much left.

[Tony] I think Mark's a little surprised

that we came in under ten grand,

but that is exactly what we did.

We gotta be careful. If anything breaks,

we're going over budget.

[Tony] Even with these last few pieces,

the interior, the wheels and tires,

and our final touches,

we still came in at $9,857.

And 32 cents for anyone that's counting.

I think for the money we spent,

we totally changed

the whole look of this truck.

Yeah, it came out really nice.

[Tony] But more importantly,

this truck turned out wicked.

Sometimes when we push ourselves

around here,

that's when the best work comes out.

We started with an old '70s Chevy truck,

and then went OG Gotham Garage.

[dramatic music playing]

We gave it the shorter bed.

A super clean paint job.

Made it look fresh inside and out.

And dropping it low to the ground

took it over-the-top.

This is a lot of truck

for a ten grand budget,

and now you can cruise

in this thing all day long.

This came out really nice.

I love how low it sits.

Did we stay on budget on this?

-You were talking about only ten grand

-Tony hit the budget.

-Ten grand?

-Yep.

I think our potential buyer's

gonna love it.

Our buyer, Gabby,

is absolutely perfect for this truck.

She's a drift driver,

but she's recently been in the market

for a hot rod truck just like this,

and I think it fits her to a tee.

Based on what Tony and the team did,

I feel like this truck is worth 35 grand,

no problem.

So I'm thinking

a whole lot's been done to it.

We started by putting a '60s grill on it

off of an old Chevy truck.

Had 'em modify the whole front end.

All the chrome is new,

all the stainless down the side is new.

-It's got 22-inch wheels on it.

a badass TMI interior in it,

custom steering wheel.

Here's one of the coolest things

about this truck,

is that it's full-air ride.

So underneath the trapdoor

is how you access everything.

-Fuel cell.

for a modified Ferrari.

You just don't see many shops do it.

But my best guess

that a car like this, once modified,

it could bring upwards of $200,000.

I mean, you go to any of the big auctions

and you see all sorts of modified Broncos,

Corvettes, and Camaros.

They're selling for $200,000 all day long.

A one-off Ferrari

should easily match that.

So when do you think you'll have the car?

I'm expecting the guy

to drop it off in the next few days.

But from what I'm told,

it's got some baggage.

Really?

I'm not sure what that means, exactly,

but the owner says he's gonna explain

all that when he drops it off.

[Nick] One minor concern I have is that

my friend Graham

is selling this car on consignment,

which means he's acting as

a broker for the owner of the car.

And right now, he obviously doesn't have

a ton of reliable information on it.

I'm not really partial

to the word "baggage."

I wanna paint this thing

with a rugged truck bedliner.

Back in the day, these vehicles

were virtually indestructible.

So I want this rat rod tank car

to look tough as nails.

One last push,

and we should have the super unique

rat rod tank car finished.

But we still need to give it

those wild and over-the-top touches

that make it a Gotham Garage original.

When Fred puts this absolutely insane

vehicle on display at his park,

But first, I can't let this thing go

without taking it

We gave this thing a shot of adrenaline

and brought it right back to life.

It's a one-of-a-kind vehicle

that's loud and over-the-top.

And it has the edge and style

Turns out that it's a lot more complicated

than just welding

a car down on the top of it.

We had to re-engineer everything.

I sorta took a lot of creative license

for this build,

so I'm hoping that I got at least close

to whatever he had envisioned in his head.

together that I really liked.

This is a car that his buddy Graham

just got in late yesterday.

And Nick didn't have

a ton of information on it.

-Supposed to be in pretty good shape.

But it does have a little baggage.

But I guess it's all getting folded

into the sale price.

So it could be an incredible deal.

within his circle of clients.

So I'm just hoping

whatever issues this car has

the extent of the baggage?

That's part of it,

but that's the reason I wanted you here.

There's a little more to it.

It's actually a theft recovery.

part of the stuff is missing.

A theft recovery vehicle means

pretty much exactly what it sounds like.

It's a car that was stolen

and then recovered by the police.

And more often than not,

these theft recovery vehicles

are stripped down for their parts.

Looks like somebody just started

taking it apart in their garage,

but they didn't cut or break anything,

and everything is unplugged.

Now this car is in excellent condition

for a theft recovery vehicle.

They barely took much at all,

but there's always a chance

that the car has a very checkered past.

So, Ferrari or not, we're gonna need

to know a lot more detail about this car

before we can even think about buying it.
