of 2020, my mum had Covid.
She just got worse and worse.
Two weeks later, she passed away.
Since then, my auntie and uncle

moved into our home.
Coming into this house
without my sister
felt painful, but I instantly
felt like I needed to look
after these kids and fulfil
what my sister wanted for them.
The move from my previous house
to here, we went into panic mode.
There was no space in this house.
We had quite a number of things
in the previous property,
and as there was a lot of stuff
here - which there still is -
it was very difficult, to the
point where some stuff had to
go in storage. We just couldn't
merge the two houses together.
With there being six of us, there's
not enough space for us.
The kids need different things.
Harj is doing her GCSEs, so she
might have her books everywhere.
Keerat just wants to just
have his own little space.
Ajay has everywhere.
His toys are everywhere!
Simran, a lot of her stuff
is in bags under the bed.
It's not ideal.
It's not even just leaving
everything everywhere.
We don't have anywhere to
actually put the items.
Once we have a decluttered home,
I think there's going to be a new
start for all of us - just to feel
like, "I'm home now.
I'm happy to go home."
We were excited to meet you
because although there's a lot
of stuff in the house, I thought
there would be, like, a house
within a house. Cos you'd had
to move from your other house,
I thought all of that stuff
would have come here.

Rob wants to repurpose a fire door
for hobby photographer Roydel,
who's studying to be a train driver.
What I'm going to be turning
this into
is Roydel's brand-new work desk.
Now, it's important that it's a fire
check door because the fire checks
are solid core doors,
unlike your standard internal,
which is pretty much made
of cardboard.
I'm just adding some of this foam
insulation to these hot water pipes.
We want to make sure that we're not
wasting any heat and any energy
in our home.
You can pick up this foam
insulation from the DIY shop.
It's usually around a pound
for one of these. Really easy.
And you just pop it over your pipe.
There we go.
Really simple to do.
Time to find out if Roydel's
new desk fits the space.
The difference this is going to make
for Roydel.

all of his studying and
make up his photo albums.

So what we're always trying to do
is find really clever ways
to save space.
So things like the kitchen roll, I
thought, "Hmm, where can I put it?"
I will put it under the cupboard.
Handy little gadgets like this are
so great because they're super,
super cheap and you don't need
a screwdriver.
Just a little bit of sticky tape.
And I'm simply going to pop that
on there and just attach that.

Sticking a little kitchen roll
holder on to the work surface
up the top. Cool. I mean, stunning.
I'm on a roll today. Ah!
I think that one might need
to be screwed in, Dills.
The section I'm working on here
is Simran's fitted wardrobe.
We had this little space left over.
Don't want to waste any of it.
So, turning it into a place where
she can store her clothes.
Ajay's sharing with Gurkeerat, so
this is the first time he gets a bit
of independent space.
So I'm going to take this wooden
A that we made for him
and I'm going to stick some of
his toy cars all around the edges.
Don't worry, he had so many!
Frees us up some space
with his cars.

genius desk solution.
Her desk is going to be hidden
inside the frame of the bed.
She just pulls out her desk, sits
on her chair and gets on with it.
So I'm going to organise
Roydel's socks.
I like to have them inside out
because then when they fold
backwards, you can see
what the sock is.
So I take my socks,
inside out, fold them from the
toe, fold them back
over the sock, and then
you have this lovely, neat
little sock parcel.
So now I can line
them up beautifully there.
Whoa-eeeh!

Something down here has leaked
and solidified.
So what I'm going to do is just go
in with a bit of washing-up liquid
and then I'm going to go
with some bicarb.
This is going to make a nice
abrasive paste.
I've got a sponge here, and to add a
little bit more abrasion to it,
I've got one of these nets.
Sometimes little cheeses come in
them or tangerines.
I'm going to dip that into my hot
water.
And then we're just going to go on
to our paste.
Pop all the shelves back.

In the living room, we've created
a desk area for Roydel to be able
to study and display
his photography.

extension to the kitchen.

because we know how special

we thought we'd move
rooms and, Roydel,
I know the bed was just
non-negotiable,
so we did bring the super-king in
and tried to make it work.

We've sorted through all of your
clothes.
In here is, like, day-to-day wear.

So the stuff you wear for work and
the stuff that you wear every day

and there wasn't much room...

here and then you swap 'em over,
when summer comes, to winter

We've reconfigured Raaj and Roydel's
bigger room so the girls can share.

and we've given them
storage of their own.
We've embraced Rob's room
within a room concept
by colour-coding each zone.
I know that both of you
need your own space.

We've got a shelf up there for
all your special things.

all of your poems and artwork.
