Are you sure
these tule reeds will hold us?

The reeds may be little,

but they're strong
when you put them together.

Yeah. If our Chumash ancestors
could do it, then we can too.

Don't you kids worry.

We Cowlitz are a canoeing people,
so we're naturals.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

Dad overboard! Dad overboard!

[chuckles] The Cowlitz
are a cedar canoeing people,

but my tribe, the Chumash,
are tule reed experts. See?

Hi-ya!

Hey! What about me?

-[chuckles]
-Well, if you insist.

-[phone chiming]
-Uh-oh. This can't be good.

-My weather app says a flood is coming.
-Whoa! I've never seen a flood before.

Sure you have.
Remember the movie Fishzilla?

-[ominous music playing]
-The flood washed away a whole building.

It went like, whoosh!

And the building was like, kerplunk!

And everyone was like, "No!"

I don't like the sound of "whoosh,"
"kerplunk," and especially "No!"

Me neither. And what about our boat ride?

Sorry, kids,
it'll have to wait until later.

We have to let nature take her course.
She's the real boss around here.

We'll be back on the water
before you know it.

Now, while you kids pack up your things,

Mom and I will tow
the S.S. Skycedar back home.

And I'll drain the river water
out of my ears. [chuckles]

-[Mom] You said it, honey.
-[Dad] What'd you say?

Oh, right. My ear water.

Well, if the flood
is anything like Fishzilla,

we better get moving.

Haku, Rangers! Lovely day for a swim,
don't you think? Hey.

I'm working on my lizard paddle.
It's like a dog paddle, but by me.

Coyote, Lizard!

There's no time for swimming,
a flood is coming!

And floods are scarier
than the fry bread monster.

Did you say flood?

Oh, boy! The last one made a huge mess.

It even washed Buffalo up into a tree.

[chuckles]

[sighs] Ah, good times.

Speaking of Buffalo spirit,
did we ever get her down from that tree?

You know? I don't remember.

If a flood is so strong
it could wash Buffalo into a tree,

what would it do to the other spirits?

Or every other crook,
cranny, and critter in the park?

We have to warn the spirits
before they all get washed away.

[exciting music plays]

Kodi cub! [roars]

Summer hawk! [screeches]

There's a flood coming!

We know. You don't have to shout.

It's not safe. You have to move!

In a sec. I'm trying to see
if I can wear eight floaties at once.

Coyote cannonball in three, two, one!

Xuxa'w, wait.

-We've got work to…
-Whoo-hoo!

-Yeah!
-…do.

If the waters are this calm,
maybe the flood will be teeny-tiny?

No way.
The flood is going to be ginormous.

-Right, everybody?
-Big waves!

-I'm so excited.
-[rumbling, whooshing in distance]

[Boar] Here comes the big wave!

It's heading right toward the spirits.

No more talk. We gotta save them.

Kodi cub, coming in strong.

-[roars]
-[Water Snake] No!

-[Boar snorts]
-Eddy turtle to the rescue.

[blows]

Stop bubbling me, bro.

Summer hawk will save you.

[screeches]

[both] Ah!

[Water Snake groans]

Now you're high and dry.
Well, maybe not dry exactly.

What gives, baby bear?

So not fair.

[snorts, grunts]

Calm down, it's okay.
You'll thank us later for saving you.

We didn't want to be saved.
We were welcoming the flood.

Floods are too scary to welcome.

Did you hear
what the last one did to Buffalo?

Oh, yeah! I don't think
we ever got her down from that tree.

I just hope we got everyone.

I'll use my hawk-eye vision to check.

[humming]

We're not all the way
out of the water yet.

There's a cute hedgehog spirit
on the shore. Come on!

I could call this river an ice cube,
because it's so chill.

Quick, little spiny creature,
hop in this bubble.

-We're here to save you from the flood.
-Oh, hi, cousins.

Ancient mammal legends
foretold of your flood.

That's why I'm here.

I had to see the sweet waves myself.
I'm Hedgehog, by the way.

Hi, Hedgehog. That's great and all,
but we need to save you.

From what, compadres?

Uh…

The flood? It's almost here!

But the flood is all naturel.
It's just nature doing her thing, baby.

I'm not a baby. I'm a turtle.

Uh, Spirit Rangers?

-[distant rumbling]
-We got bigger waves to worry about.

-Oh, no! The flood is here.
-[suspenseful music playing]

Uh… Hedgehog, hold on.

Wait. Bogus.

We have to stop the water.

Stop the water?

Only thluck tucks can do that,
and we're not thluck tucks.

That's it, Lizard.
We can build our own thluck tuck dam.

Let's go.

[adventurous music playing]

[roars]

[screeches]

[Summer] The thluck tucks
make this look way easier.

The water is still flowing!

Then it's time to rock and roll.

[blows]

[thuds]

And now, the final touch.

Do your thing, lucky pebble.

-[distant rumbling]
-Your pebble's luck just ran out.

Incoming!

[all gasp, scream]

[all] Whoa!

Ouch.

My little face.

-We did it! We stopped the flood.
-[heroic music playing]

It wasn't pretty,

but at least Hedgehog
is safe and sound, right?

This is the opposite of chill.

But now you can relax
without the scary flood, right?

How can I relax
when the river looks so gnarly?

Oh, no! I think Hedgehog is right.

Uh, I hate to break it to you,

but when you blocked the river,
that water had to go somewhere,

and you're not gonna like where.

-[hisses]
-[snorts]

Exactamundo. Even if you stop a flood,
nature finds a way to run her course.

But… we wanted to save the park.

Yeah! We had to stop the flood.

That's the problem, friendos.
In nature, floods have their place.

Floods help spread new, bodacious soil
to help plants grow.

You've just got to respect
nature's process.

-See?
-Wow!

-Cool!
-Amazing!

-Ah, so, floods help the park?
-Uh-huh. Now you're getting it, cuz.

[sighs]

And it looks like by stopping the flood,
we just made things worse.

-Yeah.
-We really did.

Hey. I'm just saying,

if you stopped talking
and started helping us, it'd be nice.

Thanks for your help, Hedgehog.
Now we've gotta unblock the river. Fast.

I got this.

[roars]

[grunting] Ow.

My bear strength didn't do anything.

Nothing a little wind can't handle.

-[grunting]
-[heroic music playing]

My hawk powers are useless.

Leave it to me.

Oh, no! My bubbles, they're helpless
against the pointy sticks.

-Help! We're surrounded!
-Help!

-Anyone have any bright ideas?
-[gasps] I've got one.

-Ta-da!
-Wait, how did that help?

Told you my pebble was lucky.
Also, now might be a good time to run.

-[Kodi yells]
-[Summer] No!

[Eddy] Eddy's not ready!

-[Lizard] My scales!
-[Coyote] My lucky pebble rocks!

-Gnarly. Now that's a flood.
-[Summer giggling]

Yeah, I guess it was.

-The fish seem happy.
-And so do our friends.

Now that was close.

-[Spider] Phew.
-That's a relief.

Hedgehog, how can you be so calm
being next to a flood?

Aren't you scared?

Yeah. You're a tiny hedgehog,
and that water was moving really fast.

Cousins, why would I be worried
when I can do this?

-What?
-No!

Be careful!

Well, there she goes.

It was nice knowing her.

I'm fine.

Us hedgehogs
can use our quills to chillax.

-[strumming gently]
-Nature's got it all figured out.

♪ Kick up your feet and chillax ♪

♪ Come take a ride and sing this song
While we relax ♪

-[vocalizing]
-[mellow music playing]

♪ Nature knows best ♪

[vocalizing]

♪ She's wiser than all the rest ♪

[playing mellow melody]

♪ Sometimes the water's got to flow ♪

♪ So that new plants and trees
Can grow, grow, grow ♪

Wow, floods are not at all
how I thought they'd be.

If it wasn't for you, Hedgehog,

we would've never let
nature take its course.

No worries, compadres.

[in unison] Respect nature's process.

Right on.

Now, if you don't mind,
I've got some floating to do.

Catch you on the next wave, Rangers.

Aw. Hedgehog sure makes one cute boat.

Now that the flood's over,
we can go on our boat ride.

Incredible.

The flood really helped
these flowers grow.

See, kids? Floods aren't all bad.

All of this floodwater
fertilized the soil too,

so we'll have reeds
to make boats next year.

Whoa, that's cool.

A flood did that?

Wow!

Huh. You were so scared
of floods this morning.

What happened?

We learned from a hedgehog spirit
sometimes you let nature take its course.

Uh, what?

I mean, um, let's finish our boat.

[humming]

Uh, little help?
I'm still stuck in this tree!

[Summer reading]

[chuckles]

Weaving is so cool.

I never thought I'd be able
to make my own basket.

Well, you know what I always say.

Anything's possible
if you "be-weave" in yourself.

You have never said that.

Weaving is an honored
Chumash and Cowlitz tradition.

Our baskets and hats are functional
and an art form of their own.

Like my cedar hat.

Weaving takes time.

You have to forage for cedar,
Juncus, or deer grass.

Then you slowly weave,
row by row, piece by piece.

But with hawk speed,
you can finish much faster. See my basket?

[Mom] Summer, maybe you wanna try again?

Some things take a long time,
but it's always worth it.

What do you mean?

My basket was made quickly,
and it's totally fine.

Um, it's a collapsible basket.
I meant for that to happen.

[chuckles] Well, keep at it. We'll be back
in a bit to check on your progress.

And remember, be-weave in yourself.

Ugh. Even un-weaving takes forever.

I like that weaving takes a long time.

It's relaxing.

That's the best part about weaving.
There's always more to do.

I don't get you two. You know what?

Weaving isn't for me.
It takes way too long.

-Guys! Whoa!
-[amusing music playing]

Where did everyone go?

Oh, there you are.

I have to tell you something
and it cannot wait.

-What happened to your basket?
-Why? What's wrong with it?

Well, it looks like
it was attacked by wolves.

But that's not important.

There's a mystery
that's rocking Spirit Park.

You just have to see it.

Okay, where is this great mystery?

Right here.

Lizard, you brought us here
to look at rocks?

Not just rocks.
Rocks that move on their own.

You see their trails in the sand?

They go on for miles
throughout the desert.

They don't seem to be moving now.

Maybe someone is pushing them around
when you're not here?

No way. I've been watching constantly.

I did not even blink.

Wouldn't your eyes dry out?

I got it covered.

Maybe the rock spirit is just asleep.

Hello! Can you hear me?

Hmm. Maybe a sand monster
is moving these rocks?

Sand monster? What?

Okay, now you really need to help us.
I'm afraid of monsters.

Of course we'll help.

Stop! You don't want to wanna anger
whatever is moving the stones.

Especially if it belongs to a monster!

-[screams]
-My turtle toes can find a clue.

[mysterious music playing]

Anything?

I'm feeling around for any vibration
or clue that someone's moving it.

Nope.

[sighs] Nothing but wind.

Hey, Coyote. Did you come
to help us solve the mystery?

Oh, no.

I'm here because I have a bet with Buffalo
over which stone will win the race.

Winner gets to lick the loser's eyeball.

Ah! Round stone pulled ahead.
Come on, pointy stone. You can do it.

They're neck and neck.
But Pointy is coming up from behind.

Come on, round stone.
I can't lose to Coyote again.

Hmm. Someone has to be moving these rocks.

Well, if no spirit saw anything,
you know what that means.

-[suspenseful music plays]
-I hope you're not gonna say "monster."

Nope. We have to do a stakeout.

If we sit and watch the rocks,
we'll see how they move.

Ooh! I've always wanted to do a stakeout.

It combines my favorite activities,
snacking and staring at things.

But do we have any snacks?

Yeah, because I brought this.

A snack basket!

Or, as I call it, a snacks-ket. [munches]

Eh, sitting around and watching rocks.
Sounds long and boring.

It might take long, but it'll be worth it.

And we can always fill in
the time with weaving.

I've got our supplies right here.

[exciting music playing]

Fine. We'll do the stakeout.
But I'm not weaving.

[snoring]

[suspenseful music playing]

[sand whooshes]

[gasps] Finally. A clue.

[thuds]

[Summer] Uh-oh.

Summer, you broke the stone.

Sorry, I thought I saw something.

It's just a rock anyway.
What's the worst that could happen?

-[loud male voice] Who touched my rock?
-Ah!

-What was that?
-Ah!

[wind gusting]

[gasps]

It's a sandstorm.

-[suspenseful music playing]
-Run like the wind! Away from the wind!

-It's gaining on us!
-There!

First stone to cross the finish line wins.

[wind gusting]

Look out!

No!

-Double no!
-Ah!

We can't outrun it!

[screams]

I got dust in my eyes.

Oh, geckos can lick 'em for you.

Uh, thanks, but no, thanks.

Uh… Ah! I said, no, thanks!

We gotta stop this.

Maybe I can fly above
and see what's going on.

Hang on, everyone.

[heroic music playing]

[mysterious music playing]

That looks just like a basket pattern.
Wait, is this all just a design?

[male voice] Yes. And I was proud of it.

-[Summer] Who are you?
-I'm Saxtakit, the Chumash wind spirit.

I move the tides, shift the weather, and--

Make pretty designs
on the desert floor with rocks?

Yes, that too.

So you just blow on the rocks,
and they slowly move?

Actually, it's complicated.

I create thin layers of ice
around the stones.

When the ice melts, it gets slippery.
Then I blow.

[inhales, blows]

-Whoa!
-[wind gusting]

Then why did you create a sandstorm?
Your art is being blown away.

I had to start over.
You ruined my rocks and my sand designs.

Well, I'm sorry
about destroying your sand designs.

If you stop the storm,
I promise I can fix this in no time.

Okay. You got a deal.

You did it!

How did you stop the storm?

I met the Chumash wind spirit, Saxtakit.

Turns out he was making art
with the rocks,

and we messed it up.

Ahem. You mean you messed it up.

Now isn't the time to point paws.
I-- I mean, fingers.

Phew.

So, it's not a monster.

Just an all-powerful spirit
that could blast us with sandstorms!

I promised him we'd fix it.

But I don't know where to start.

Well, first we have to replace
the broken rocks.

[groans]

How are we ever going to figure out
where to find them?

Relax. I got this.

[slurps] This limestone tastes like
the depths of Xus Lake.

[slurps] Yep, definitely came
from the bottom of the lake.

[slurps] Oh!

Moldy. Yep. You should check there.

What? You don't lick rocks for fun?

Let's find that rock,
so we can make the design.

[adventurous music playing]

[Kodi and Eddy straining]

-Phew. These rocks are heavy.
-Phew.

-It's gonna take all of us to move it.
-We got this.

We just have to use it
to make a pattern in the sand.

[Lizard humming]

-Nailed it.
-[Summer giggles]

We're gonna need more than that.

In the sky, I saw the drag marks
go for miles to create a pattern.

I don't know if my turtle toes
can drag for miles and miles.

If we work together,
we'll finish with hawk speed. Let's hurry.

Okay, on the count of three,

everyone push.

One, two…

[Kodi] Three!

[all straining]

Wait. I don't think we're doing it right.

Look, the pattern is all jagged.

Saxtakit's lines are
all straight and clean.

Plus, we're leaving paw
and claw prints behind us.

So, if we rush it,
the designs won't come out.

That's why I move the rocks slowly.

-Look out!
-[screams]

Monster!

[Summer] Saxtakit, I'm sorry.

I know I promised we'd finish quickly,
but we can't finish without messing up.

You don't have to rush.

Many of the wonders of the world

have been created
by slowly working away at something.

It just takes time.

[mellow rock song playing]

Didn't grow overnight ♪

Look, I made a Cowlitz cedar hat like Dad.

[all chuckling]

You can put it in my Chumash basket.
If it wasn't already filled with snacks.

Wow, great job. You kids are natural.

And, Summer, I'm happy
you haven't given up on weaving after all.

A wise weaver once said,
"Be-weave it and you can achieve it."

Hey, that's me.

We better collect more cedar, Juncus
and deer grass if we wanna weave more.

-Come on, hurry. [gasps]
