that's been there since the '70s,

sun-bleached over the years.

starting to feel like The June.

The motel building
is still being painted pink.

The final touches
on the rooms are coming together.

[Sarah] Even though the concrete deck
has been poured,

the pool itself doesn't have a liner yet,

and the wood deck extension and fence
are nowhere near finished.

[Sarah] Anyone else feeling
some major stress?

[April] There's an entire chunk
of deck missing.

What's the update on the lumber?

Everywhere, there's a shortage
of pressure-treated lumber,

and it's a result of mills having been
shut down because of the pandemic.

-[Sarah] Building stopped for two months.
-[Courtney] Yeah.

[Sarah] All of a sudden,
they're all happening.

-[both] Yeah.
-Rick does not have any more lumber

-to do any more than what I see right now?
-No. No lumber at all.

-[April] This is a problem.
-[Sarah] This is what it looks like.

-We have guests checking in in no time.
-[Courtney] Yeah.

-[laughs]
-I can't. I can't. I'm gonna throw up.

From the building code, we need a fence,

or we won't even be allowed
to fill the pool.

We're just gonna have an empty pool.

[April] Of course,
we need the fence around the whole pool,

but also, this was an important moment
for us to create some privacy.

We are so tight on a deadline here
for this pool. It's ridiculous.

The good thing is, it'll happen quickly
as soon as we have lumber.

It's just a matter of sourcing
the material and pivoting if we need to.

-This is a stress that I never foresaw.
-[Courtney] No.

[Sarah] With the entire pool area
on pause,

we're pushing ahead with other plans.

Even though we can't open the inside
of the restaurant,

we're moving forward
with a couple painted wall murals

because we paid for them.

[April] Guests will see them
when they use the bathroom,

and they'll give us
that great '70s vibe we're going for.

It's really livened up this restaurant.

The colors are perfect.

-We love it.
-We're pretty obsessed.

-Okay, well, we need a game plan.
-We're so far from finishing.

-There'll be some long days this week.
-[Courtney] Yeah.

-We only have a certain number of days.
-Yeah.

[April] We need the entire property
to look perfect.

-[Sarah] A lot of cleanup.
-[April] There's so much cleanup.

No landscaping's done.
Make sure the pool's amazing.

Make sure all the touch-ups
in the rooms get done.

-We need extra hands. A hundred percent.
-Yeah.

My parents are coming.
I think we can put them to work.

-[April] Ingo is gonna come help as well.
-All hands on deck.

Opening weekend can make or break a motel.

Guests are gonna be paying a lot
of money to be here.

And if the reviews are bad, we're sunk.

-Fingers crossed for good weather.

[Sarah] We were supposed
to have something over the pergola

to give a little protection from the rain.

I think it wouldn't hurt
to have a tent just in case.

-Have one lined up.

-Everything needs to be perfect.

All we can focus on now is getting open

and then making
that guest experience amazing.

At the end of the day,
that's what matters.

We finally have some staff
on the property.

[Sarah] Katie has been training servers,
and we've hired our two interns.

Something I'll be particular about
is making sure our tags are in line.

Everything should be visually perfect.

[Sarah] Nadia and Sarah will be with us
for the rest of the season,

and we are so happy
to finally have some extra help around.

Opening weekend is very soon.

The next few days
will be, like, purely chaos.

We need to make sure
everything looks absolutely amazing.

There's a lot of cleaning,
a lot of organizing.

For opening, we're aiming really high
for a perfect guest experience.

The most important thing
is how guests feel while they're here.

We wanna wow them.

-There's high pressure.
-[Courtney] How do you guys feel?

-Good. Yeah, excited.
-[intern Sarah] Yeah, ready to open.

I cannot believe what's happening
with the pool right now.

[Sarah] The pool is still a big concern,

but there are literally hundreds
of other small details

we still need to figure out
before opening weekend.

[April] Like staff T-shirts.

We gave our intern Nadia the job
of finding the perfect one.

-Could you model the shirts for us?
-I definitely can.

-Are we having a fashion show?
-[April] I think so.

I think all this stress and pressure
is really getting to me.

I'm just being kind of weirder than usual.

on this desperate search for lumber,

but there's nothing
within a 50-mile radius of the motel.

we haven't thought of?

Everything is delayed.

That's been the story
of the whole project.

Every single material
we have tried to order,

or have ordered well in advance,
has been delayed.

-Everything.
-Honestly, I just wish we had more time.

[sighs]

Now that the motel's being painted pink,
we need to choose a color for the doors.

This is our last paint decision.

at our first motel are so iconic,

and a big social media moment.

So we need to get this right.

Renovating a motel in a rural area, it's
really hard to get last-minute material.

But we need to open the pool.

Rick and I are out looking everywhere
we can to secure lumber,

but we've had no luck.

There's a real possibility
that the wooden deck extension and fence

won't be finished by the time
guests are to be checking in.

I'm gonna drive back.

And then, the four hours
that I've wasted doing this,

I am going to make up for
by working all night.

We're in the final stretch.

I'm really, really tired.

But we're really close now.

So, I'm gonna keep it together.

Yeah.

Well, things aren't going smoothly.

The neon sign broke.

There's literally a tear
in one of the neon bulbs.

Okay, you can't see it, but…

'Cause it literally doesn't work enough
to even show you.

We've also learned that neon repair--
Like, very few people can do it.

Yeah. Obviously, we've built
the entire thing around the neon sign.

So not having a neon sign isn't an option.

-Come on, world, give us a win.
-[April] I know.

[Courtney] Our custom pool liner arrived
and is being installed.

It's that perfect blue color,
very retro and '70s,

which is exactly what we're going for.

We still don't have lumber,
but we do have a lead.

This is just me and the crew,
me and the guys.

So I'm in the car with Rick and Ryan,
and we're going to pick out some lumber.

Rick has reserved some,
and his name's on the list.

Let's see if that's actually true
and if we can have first pick.

Ryan, are you excited?

That is the lumber truck behind me.

We have lumber.

I have never been so excited
to see wood before.

to finish the deck and fences.

-[Courtney] Yeah. It looks amazing.

[Sarah] We finally have the wood,

but we're running out of time
to get this fence built.

[April] Normally, we would wait till
Rick is done to style the deck--

But if we don't choose an umbrella today,
they won't arrive in time.

-[Sarah] Love the loungers.
-[Courtney] Yeah.

They were affordable. They feel so retro.

-[April] And we love our side table.
-[Courtney] Yeah.

I think they look a bit cheap.

We're finally in the home stretch,
and everyone is pushing hard.

Rick's team is finishing the fence
and deck extension.

-Landscapers are working on the garden.
-And the pool guys are here.

There will be a pool.
And styling it is all that's left.

These aren't exactly ideal conditions
to style a pool deck.

But after everything we've been through,

we're not gonna let
a little bit of rain stop us.

Let's switch plants and then figure out
where we want the umbrellas.

Somewhat ironic setting up a pool
in the pouring rain.

It's kind of sad, actually.

[Sarah] It better clear up
for opening weekend,

because we never got
the plexiglass cover for the pergola.

If guests can't eat outside
on the Heydays' patio,

that's kind of a disaster.

I'm very worried
this is gonna go in the pool!

I love that you can see the top
of our sign from here.

[Courtney] I know!

[Sarah] I think fresh fence,
fresh concrete,

-fresh liner really made a difference.

The pool is finally done just in time.
