And now comes the point in our love story

where we have to deal with the topic

of breakups and breakthroughs.

NARRATOR: Because at the end

of every relationship,

usually comes a soul-searching journey

that forces us to, well,

to put it bluntly, face our own sh*t.

- I miss the way I get lost

in the moment with you ♪

NARRATOR:

Which leads us to Abby,

who's been doing just that

since her last go around with Trevor.

- We'll continue to be friends,

but it's, like, nothing beyond that.

- Don't need nobody ♪

NARRATOR: She's been on a big

let's-never-do-that-again quest,

A.K.A. doin' her.

- Look at me now ♪

NARRATOR:

You know what this looks like.

Revenge-body time.

SHOPKEEPER: Hi.

- Hey.

NARRATOR:

Glam time, girl time,

and lots and lots of me time.

BAGGER: So, are you gonna share

your ice cream with anybody?

- No. [laughs]

- Just for you.

- Just for me.

NARRATOR: And some deeper stuff

like making amends with your past,

or in Abby's case, her mother.

[phone chimes]

[approaching footsteps]

- Hi.

It's so good to see you.

- Good to see you.

GRACE: Aw.

ABBY:

Over the last few months,

things have gotten a lot better

between my mom and I.

We're talking more openly

and honestly with each other,

especially since I was

truthful with how I felt.

I appreciate you being, um,

receptive to what I had to say.

Don't cry.

Mom don't cry.

I love you. You know that.

- [sniffles] Well, and I'm glad

that you were open and honest,

and said some things

that you needed to say.

Ya know, as much as it hurt,

I h-- I hear everything you say,

and I've heard everything you've said,

and I'm just so sorry.

- I know. And honestly, like,

you know, the more I thought about it,

like, obviously, it wasn't, like, ideal,

the-the-the things that have happened,

but you were going

through your own stuff,

and I know, I know that.

- [crying] I did.

- Ya know?

- I think you're wonderful,

and I'm so proud of you.

I'm so proud of you,

in spite of all my mistakes.

I love you.

- So much.

[Abby chuckles]

ABBY:

I think we're finally making progress.

- What's going on in your life?

- Um I mean,

been busy with work and, um,

ya know, hangin' out

with Trevor some again.

- Yeah.

- And, um,

ya know, was kind of hoping

that maybe things had changed

and he was, you know,

ready to commit to something,

but, um

- Yeah.

- it doesn't seem like that's the case.

[sighs] I don't wanna keep

putting myself in this situation.

I feel pathetic even thinking about it

just 'cause that's not me.

- Right.

- Um--

- I've been in those relationships where

I would chase someone

and convince them they needed

to be with me or needed to marry me,

and

- Yeah.

- we see how all that ended,

and went, and then ended.

- Yeah.

- And I always felt that I had to be

in a relationship,

or I had to have someone.

Um--

- Yeah.

- I want better for you.

So,

learn from my mistakes.

Stop the cycle. Ya know, I

- I know.

- I tried to do

the same with my mother

and stop the cycle and the insanity,

and in essence, I repeated it.

Didn't even know

I was doing it until years later

- Yeah.

- looking back and, um,

but don't give up.

Don't give up. You'll find love,

and you'll find that person.

It's all about timing.

- Well, I hope you're right.

NARRATOR: We all want answers

when relationships end,

answers to things like,

"What's wrong with me?

Why can't I get it right?

How did this happen again?"

And so, we go searching for the answers

upbeat music playing ♪

in hopes of, well, a breakthrough.

But when it comes

to breakup breakthroughs,

do they really have a lasting impact

on our future relationships?

Or are they just a temporary fix

for a broken heart?

rooting for a breakup,

but when you hate your

best friend's girlfriend,

It's been well over one week

since Baylee's beach house breakdown,

and Mya Jo is, well,

not over it, like, at all.

- I wanna hear more about the party.

I didn't get to go.

- It started off good

and then, ya know, of course,

Nick and Baylee makes everything awkward.

[crosstalk]

- I'm out.

I know what you're doin'.

It's cool.

DEVIN: Where'd she go?

[Baylee breathes deeply]

- The vibe was completely off

because everything has to

be about them

CIARA: Mm-hmm.

- and we couldn't even

just have a good time.

- Yeah, that's not too fun.

- Ever since she's came

to our friend group and to Fairhope,

there's been nothing but problems,

you know?

- I-- Y-Yeah.

- Like, the vibe's been off,

and we've never had

the vibe been off all 10 years

of all of us bein' friends

- Mm-hmm.

- you know?

And no one was upset with h-- about her,

like, joining our friend group.

Like, we were like,

"Okay, Nick has a girlfriend. Cool."

You know? Like--

- Yeah.

- But the moment she stepped foot,

it's been problems.

Whatever La La Land Baylee's in,

she needs to snap out of it

because--

- I know. I'm team Mya Jo, so it's okay.

- Well,

we the winnin' team.

[both laughing]

- Shut up.

- But you wanna hear something exciting?

- Yeah.

[ball rattling]

- I'm goin' on tour with Kirk.

- Oh. Uh-oh.

- Yeah.

- How long do you think

you're gonna be gone for?

- Uh, probably, like, three, four months.

- That'll be fun though, seriously.

Oh, my gosh!

- I-I-I'm playin' the game.

- I know.

My head's not in it, apparently.

How long has the tour been planned?

- Oh, my God. Oh, my God.

Throw the damn ball.

- Oh! They're here. Hi! [giggles]

MYA JO: Hi.

- Hi.

BAYLEE:

How are y'all?

CIARA:

We're just havin' a good ol' time.

Good little girls' night.

BAYLEE: Oh.

Same. Same, same.

CIARA: Fun.

- Uh, can we chat?

NARRATOR: And this is what

we call breaking through the BS

and hoping nothing else

gets broken in the process.

BAYLEE:

Uh, can we chat?

tense music playing ♪

I saw that, um, you and Nick are,

like, hangin' out more and more,

and I feel like mine and his conversation

about boundaries in our relationship,

it's, like, you're kinda,

like, overstepping.

♪

- Maybe 'cause I'm not

the one in the relationship,

and it's not that Nick and I

are hangin' out more and more,

we've always hung out this much.

And I feel like ever since

we kinda welcomed you

in our friend group,

there's just been problems.

- Like, what kinda problems?

- You thinking that Nick

and I have something going on,

you, like, kind of, like,

stormin' outta Kirk's concert,

and just, you know,

always making everything awkward.

The vibe is just off.

- You were talking a lotta crap

about Baylee and Nick being together.

And--

MYA JO: Yeah, that's not true, at all.

BAYLEE:

He's told me there's some situations

that's happened with y'all,

and that's not--

MYA JO:

Well, what do you mean?

Because if you're gonna mention it,

I think you should just go ahead

and throw it out.

- I mean, he said he slept

over at your house in your bed,

and then, I mean, look where

the relationship is at now.

- Because his brother died

a couple months ago,

and we were best friends.

And you bringin' up the past

is very disrespectful to me

because you weren't there.

- You're right,

but I'm his girlfriend now

MYA JO: So it goes--

- so it does affect later on--

MYA JO: Okay, okay. So--

- I don't want history to repeat itself.

- He owes you an explanation, I don't.

So, if you're not gettin'

an explanation from him,

to-loo-da-doo.

And whatever Nick's comfortable

with with our friendship,

we'll handle that, but--

- Well, then, he just

won't be friends with you.

- Let's just end

the conversation right here then

since, you know,

we aren't getting anywhere.

We're gonna finish our game.

- Cool.

- Let me know how

that conversation goes with Nick.

- [laughs]

I'm tired of babysitting.

- Yeah, Nick, you can't be friends

with your best friend of 10 years

because I'm insecure.

[indistinct chatter]

NARRATOR:

Sometimes it's best to take a break

from certain conversations

before things boil over

and someone gets burned.

- That was a little weird.

And then there are those times

when we've delayed

a conversation for way too long

for fear of where it might lead.

INSTRUCTOR:

And you have got Dixie under control,

and I'm gonna lead him.

OLIVIA: Tay looks so excited.

TORI: He does.

He looks unsure, too, though.

OLIVIA: Yeah, I know.

INSTRUCTOR: You ready?

Come on, big guy. Okay.

OLIVIA/TORI: Aw!

INSTRUCTOR: Oh, look at you up there.

OLIVIA:

Good job, bud!

INSTRUCTOR: Good job!

- Look at him.

- Aw.

INSTRUCTOR: Always look

where you're going.

- He was so scared.

Before we got out here, he was like,

"Mommy, you have to ride with me."

INSTRUCTOR: 'Kay, let me

see you two ask 'em to whoa.

- You love him, huh?

TORI: Mm-hmm.

INSTRUCTOR: Hey, would you mind

putting it over by that post?

- The more I'm around your kids,

the more it makes me

want somethin' that's mine.

Like a little mini-me.

- I guess I didn't realize when

you brought it up the other day, like,

you saying you wanted kids, that it

really, like, meant somethin' to you.

I thought it was just

kind of a thought, but--

- Have you ever thought

about wanting more kids?

- I don't know, I just never

really had, like, a desire for more.

[children playing in distance]

- Do you want kids?

- I think so.

- I don't think that's

gonna happen for me, personally.

[children playing and giggling]

- The times we've talked about it,

I feel like the conversation is more like,

will you carry the baby?

Talkin' about me.

[both chuckle]

And it's, like,

that's a lot to ask, you know?

It took a toll on me

both times for different reasons.

That, along with, like,

so many other factors,

I'm just-- I don't think

that's what I ever wanna do.

I think I'm content

with the two that I have, so

soft guitar music playing ♪

- I want that, like, where

I have someth-- someone that loves me

and that, like, knows, like--

Do you know that feeling

OLIVIA: Mm-hmm.

- of, like, unconditional love?

And I think it has

a big factor to do with, like,

I didn't get that growin' up as a child.

And so, knowin' that is

how it's supposed to be,

like, I want to give that to a child.

I saw this on TV one time.

- Yeah. Alright.

LASHOUNDRA:

Here's the thing,

I don't know what I want

in a relationship right now,

so gettin' to know

someone new is gonna take time.

[people chattering, screaming]

[Lashoundra laughs]

LASHOUNDRA:

I met Jaheem at a local bar.

He introduced himself,

passed me his number,

and next thing I know,

we are on a date.

[laughter]

Am I scared? Yep.

But am I excited?

Absolutely.

But I know I wanna take things slow.

- You gotta hold it light, you know.

[Lashoundra giggles]

JAHEEM:

- [laughs]

- Oh, look at that, I helped you out.

I appreciate you comin'

[Lashoundra laughs]

- I'm listening.

- It's been a while since

I've been out with a man in public

- Right, right. Yeah, yeah.

- like, out after my marriage.

- It's been some time now, right?

I mean, how long have you guys been?

- It's been close to--

We, of course, separated two years,

divorced almost six months.

- I mean, is there still feelings

there with the two of you?

- Um,

no, but I am afraid

of being in a new relationship.

- Well, that's the only way you're

gonna be able to move forward,

if you stop lookin' back.

Sometimes you gotta

close your eyes and just jump.

NARRATOR:

And then it hit Lashoundra.

The realization that breaking up is easy,

but breaking away is tough,

especially when, deep down,

you really don't want to.

Meanwhile, in the next town over,

Abby decided to catch some live music

with her old high school boyfriend

turned matchmaker, Justin.

JUSTIN: So, tell me how

y'all ghosted us there at the rodeo.

- It wasn't intentional.

- I'm sure it wasn't.

- It was, like

- Not even a phone call.

- literally everything

that could've gone wrong

that day, went wrong.

We got lost.

Our engine starts smoking.

We have to pull over

on the side of the road and fix it.

JUSTIN: Okay.

ABBY: We, obviously,

missed it at that point.

- Oh, we'll, uh, just

let that one slide I guess.

Well, speakin' of, we went down

to this rodeo in Houma, Louisiana.

And I know you're

taking a break from guys,

but this dude was playin' there.

We kinda hit it off,

and we've become friends.

Hear me out, hear me out, hear me out.

He's moved to Nashville

to sing music, okay?

So, an--

- Oh, so, like, two red flags now.

Rodeos, music.

- Just give-give me a chance, okay?

And I have set it up

for you to meet him tonight.

He's gon' do a little

concert for us, okay?

Speakin' of the Devil, here he is.

[indistinct chatter]

- Look at him.

See, didn't I tell you?

- Oh, my God.

- His name is Ashton.

ABBY:

He's cute. I gotta give you credit.

- I just know ya too well.

- I know!

ASHTON ANGELLE:

How are you guys doin' tonight?

[crowd cheers and hollers]

- Woo!

- Better now. [laughs]

JUSTIN: Yeah!

[cheering]

ASHTON: Came down here

and, uh, I'm gonna play you guys some

JUSTIN: How would that sound?

[crowd cheering]

- That's unfortunate.

NARRATOR:

is exactly the break that Abby needs.

on breakups

and breakthroughs with Olivia,

who's been on a break with Tori

since we saw them last.

TORI: Hey.

OLIVIA: What's up?

- What are you doin'?

- Just put the kids to bed.

Just chillin'.

Didn't expect for you to come up.

What's goin' on?

- Um,

nothin', I just felt like

we probably should talk

- Yeah.

- about things

that have been on my mind.

Ya know, like, I'd r--

I really, I really do want kids,

and I don't know

if I can be with someone

that doesn't want a kid with me.

Like, it's really important to me.

- That's just not ever

gonna be what I want.

- Sucks.

- It does.

I wish it could be different.

- So, I guess this is it?

- I guess.

It definitely sucks.

- Guess I'll see you around.

- Be careful.

- Lights only break when it's cold ♪

Right now I'm reachin'

for warmer coats ♪

[car alarm beeps]

- Even the sky seems to know ♪

And the whole world weeps,

sayin', "Please come home" ♪

NARRATOR:

When a relationship ends,

it can feel like you're literally sick,

science says so.

And the worst part is,

there's no real cure, no medicine.

Maybe that's why we hope

for some sort of breakthrough.

Maybe that's our remedy,

a way to make us feel better.

Like, maybe next time,

knowing ourselves a little bit better,

we'll choose right.

- And it's A-B-B-Y?

- Yeah.

- M'kay.

NARRATOR:

ASHTON: Well, I'll go ahead
