The next chapter of our love story

is about the road to romance.

Because just like in love,

in Fairhope, every path is

either a magical journey,

or leads to a dead end.

Take Mya Jo for example.

When Mya Jo was in middle school,

she and Nick discovered a shortcut,

a road that led from her house to his.

Better believe I'll be ready ♪

It's a straight road they've been

down a thousand times before.

But this summer,

this path has a whole new twist.

♪

[Nick exhales sharply]

- What's up, dude?

NICK: What's up?

- What's happenin'?

NICK: Did you just run down here?

- I did.

- For real?

- Yeah, I just did

a Zumba hip-hop class

and wanted to finish off

with some cardio.

- Oh, my gosh.

So, uh, what'd you think about last night,

the bonfire and everything?

- I think it was fun It was fun.

- Yeah, I think it was a, a good time.

Think.

It was just a little bit odd.

[grunts]

I don't know.

[grunts]

- What was?

- I just didn't know that

you and Kirk were, like,

in a relationship at one point.

- Yeah.

- Don't know how I missed that.

- Yeah, you definitely missed that.

- I don't know what I was doin'.

Like, was I travelin' or?

- I don't know what you were doin'.

- I noticed it last night,

so I was, like, you know?

KAI:

Look who's back for the summer.

♪

- It was a little obvious.

- A little obvious?

- Mm-hm.

I mean, that's good though, you know?

Do your thing.

- Yeah?

- Mm-hm.

Yeah, but Kirk, you know,

he's a musician,

so he could just hit the road at any time.

- Yeah, but I'm fine bein' single.

I'm enjoying my time.

But you know what's crazy?

- Hm?

- You tryin' to act like

you and Baylee aren't a thing.

- What do you mean?

- I feel like y'all are pretty serious.

KAI: I haven't seen Nick

with a girlfriend in a minute.

- Did he hide her from you, too,

or was it just me?

KAI: Yes.

[inaudible dialogue]

- Three months, yeah.

- She's very pretty.

Very pretty.

I don't know how you did that one,

but somehow you did.

light music playing ♪

[weights clink]

All right, dude, I'm gonna leave.

I'm gonna go take my little run back.

NARRATOR: We all grow up

wondering who will be the one?

Will our love lives be wild and reckless,

or sweet and safe?

Will we choose our silly

best friend from childhood

or a handsome stranger who

When it comes to picking

the path towards our forever love,

Abby and Trevor have

been seeing each other

for about three months.

In a normal relationship,

this would be the time

when you start talking about commitment.

In a Trevor relationship, however,

well, this is when he likes to disappear.

This road looks very familiar.

Doesn't it, Abby?

Huh?

Gettin' it right from the get-go ♪

It's a new vibe, it's a new flow ♪

ABBY: I'm so glad to get away

from work for a minute.

We have a new client that,

um, like, I'm handling all

of their influencer marketing.

It's a lot of fun, but it's just busy

and all over the place.

KALA:

So, what are you doin' this weekend?

- Um, so I mean,

Trevor and I have plans.

He says he wants to hang out.

We'll see. Um--

- Do you really have plans?

- Um, I mean, they're, like,

semi-solid, [chuckles]

which makes zero sense

when I say it out loud.

- Abby, no.

I have this party

that I've been invited to.

You should come.

Brit's gonna be there.

Let's not sit by the phone

and wait for him to call.

- Yeah.

No, I know you're right.

And I just am trying to--

[sharp inhale]

I don't know, it's tough

because I feel like we've,

kind of, [sighs]

made some strides in our friendship,

and I don't wanna, like, blow him off.

- Uh-oh. [chuckles]

NARRATOR:

Great, Abby.

So, you're just gonna

keep going down this road

even though everyone

around you is telling you

it's going nowhere.

- But we'll see.

NARRATOR:

Which means this weekend could go

one of two ways:

Trevor rides in on a white horse

professing his undying love,

or she throws on a revenge dress

and she takes the high road.

- We'll see.

- M'kay, sounds good.

- Have a good day.

- Love you.

- All right. Bye, babe.

NARRATOR: What a gift to know

undeniably in your bones

How can you reimagine

anything after that?

Well, if anyone can do it,

it's Claiborne.

CLAIBORNE: I lived

with my mother until I got married.

So, I've never been alone.

So, when Johnny died,

Aleen stepped up and was

my absolute rock and salvation.

We are best friends

and we are mother and daughter.

So, we're both at the same time.

[Claiborne laughs]

[emphatically]

- [emphatically]

Okay.

- Well, you've been movin'.

Don't move anymore.

You just moved.

- What? I can't move my head?

- No, you cannot move your head,

goober. [laughs]

- I'm just lookin' around.

Bein' still's never really been my forte.

- Uh, yes, I noticed

the minute you were born.

You see that palm tree right there?

ALEEN: Yes.

CLAIBORNE: I want you

to look at that palm tree.

I want that palm tree to be

your bestest friend ever.

- Okay.

- And you think he's gorgeous.

- Got it.

'Cause happiness starts ♪

- It's great.

- Okay, I'm trying.

I'm trying really hard to be still.

- All right. I think I'm about

done with that.

- Are you done?

Do I look gorgeous?

- I think you're gorgeous.

[Aleen laughs]

- You have to say that, you're my mother.

You got those mom goggles on.

- I don't have to say it.

If you were an ugly child, I would say,

"Oh, you're so nice."

- You would tell me.

Oh, thank you.

I-I appreciate that.

[Aleen laughs]

- Whether you know it or not,

I have drawn you at every stage.

- Yeah.

- I've drawn you

when you were

a snaggle-toothed hamburglar child.

- Thank you.

- I drew you when you were

in the juvenile court, Mardi Gras court.

It's kind of like havin' your life

- In pictures?

- in paintings,

not pictures.

- In paintings. Thank you.

- Photos are easy.

Paintings are difficult.

- I know I know.

[birds chirping]

- Now you can talk, and move, and wiggle--

- Oh, good.

- Yes.

- Yay!

- Like you--

- Yay!

- Like you've been doing all along.

[Aleen laughs]

So, I have a date Friday night.

I'm ready to get out there

and get goin' again.

- Oh, that's good.

- You know how I am.

I'm determined.

I'm determined that there's

gotta be somebody out there,

that is like a soulmate or a best friend.

- Yeah.

- I don't like the aloneness

of, of this single life.

It just kind of sucks.

- You know, you and dad,

kind of was a rare thing, and--

- Well, you know, I was debatin'

maybe takin' his a-- his ashes down,

or some of his ashes down

to the bay, and--

- Mm-hm.

I think he would like that.

- I just don't know if I'm ready yet.

I still have him--

Dad in the box at home.

- I know.

- I knock on the box

and go, "It's all right?"

He goes, "It's all right."

- I'm sure he appreciates that.

- Oh, I'm sure.

- Yeah. Well, he might like--

- A man of a few words.

- I know.

[Claiborne laughs]

He's like, "Lord, even in death,

she-- I can't get rid of her."

- That's it.

[both laughing]

we dated in high school,

we were really different.

about havin' good grades

and where I was goin' to go to college.

And Kirk was the opposite.

He was a free spirit.

He didn't care as long

as he was havin' fun.

He just made me feel like

everything was gonna be okay

and I don't have to figure it out,

at least for right now.

I forgot how much

I miss that about him.

Remember that time we all came

out here and it was a tropical storm,

and you and all

your friends were surfing,

and I was having

a heart attack

'cause I thought y'all were

literally gonna die? God.

- Well, we gotta catch

the big waves somehow.

- Yeah, but in a tropical storm?

Oh, my gosh, I couldn't see anything.

I couldn't even see y'all.

[Kirk chuckles]

It was so scary.

- Well, today wasn't bad like that.

- No, today was beautiful.

- It was.

- I appreciate you teaching me.

It was a lot of fun.

- Of course.

Anytime.

Did you meet anybody in college?

- A couple of people,

but no one that I'm still with, so.

- Yeah.

Not as good as me.

- [laughs] Think so?

[both laugh]

Kirk and I broke up because we

were in two different stages of life.

But in college, I always

found myself thinking about him.

But did you meet anyone?

- No.

I wasn't looking, though.

[Mya Jo giggles]

This is the second time, Abby.

I've seriously dated in the past,

I'm not just some pushover

TREVOR:

- Is it?

- [laughing] Yeah.

[laughter]

- Is there somethin' goin' on?

TREVOR:

What are you talkin' about?

ABBY:

You said y'all were just friends.

- We are just friends.

We were just hangin' out on the couch.

- So, you just, like,

lay on top of your friends?

[Trevor sighs]

Tell me the truth.

- You're so annoying.

We're literally just

at a party hanging out.

If I would've known

you we're gonna walk up--

- What? You wouldn't have been,

like, pretzeled up with her?

[Trevor sighs]

I don't know.

I just, um, I don't know.

I'm not giving my time to other people,

so I just kind of thought

you weren't either, but--

- I'm sorry, I didn't--

- It's okay.

I think the thing is,

is that, like, I'm the person

that you hang out with in private,

and she's the one that

you take out in public.

- Well, we had some dates set up

before you got back in town,

and I wasn't gonna cancel on her.

- So, I followed through.

you were taking somebody.

- Maybe I wasn't clear enough.

conversations about

whether or not people

are just friends or not,

and you've said they're
