Squatch (2026)

Post by bunniefuu »

A long, long time ago, this

entire state

was filled with loggers and

trappers.

Michigan's white pine was the

most

sought-after lumber in the

country, but surprisingly, there

was no logging to be had in this

forest.

Oh, they came, those big men

with their

axes and machines, but they

didn't stay.

Legend says that these huge men

ran into

a number of giant, powerful

beasts.

That's not real!

No, seriously, Dawson,

show them what you found.

[rustling]

Oh, that's just an elbow.

I know that, because

Squatch bury their dead.

[thudding footsteps]

The loggers spoke of

creatures that they called

Squatch.

At night, these beasts would

terrorize

those logging camps.

Not only did they fill the woods

with

these strange,

horrifying sounds, but they

would

-throw massive rocks and

boulders straight

-[growling]

into the cabins,

sometimes destroying them

completely.

Within weeks, all of

the loggers were gone.

Sometimes, late at night, you

can still

hear the creatures calling out.

Whoop, whoop, whoop!

-[distant whooping sound]

-Whoop!

-[kids screaming]

-That's scary!

[fire crackling]

[distant whooping]

What's that?

Guys!

[thudding footsteps]

Guys, wake up!

Scouts!

Guys!

-[boy] Go back to bed, Dawson!

-Guys!

Scouts!

-[grunting]

-[scout leader] Get to sleep!

It's real!

[thudding footsteps approaching]

It's real!

[screaming]

Aah!

-[scout leader screaming]

-[kids shouting]

[panicked breathing]

-[kids screaming]

-[roaring]

Guys, look! A cabin!

[screaming]

-[screaming continues]

-[banging]

Aah!

-[kids screaming and banging]

-[dog barking]

[man] Whoa, what's going on?

Come on!

What's going on?

Whoa, whoa, whoa,

-whoa, whoa, one at a time.

-[dog barking]

It's okay, Blue.

[indistinct shouting]

He k*lled our scout leader!

It was a squatch. A big f*ck,

too.

Whoa, whoa, language, young man.

John, my friend John

here will take care of you.

You'll be safe. I'm gonna go

check on your scout leader.

-Mike.

-Yeah.

-Shotgun.

-Shotgun?

[chuckles]

-Okay.

-And load it.

Yeah, it's loaded.

Blue, let's go.

-Come on, Blue.

-[dog panting]

[door opens]

[door closes]

[g*n c*ck]

[crickets chirping]

[growling]

[dog whimpering]

-[distant banging]

-Blue! Blue, get back here!

-[dog barking]

-[ominous music]

God damn it.

Blue!

Here, boy.

[growling]

Blue!

[whistles]

Here, boy!

[dog barking]

[growling]

[dog whining]

[grunts]

[panting]

Blue!

Blue, come!

[leaves crunching]

[growling]

Come on, boy.

Come on!

Blue!

Come on, boy!

[growling]

-[thudding]

-[grunts]

[panting]

Blue! f*ck!

[panting]

[growling]

[panting]

[panting]

The f*ck is--

Hey!

[ominous music]

-[squelching]

-[screaming]

[panting]

[growling]

-[thudding]

-[screaming]

[ominous music]

[man on radio] Good morning,

Motor City.

Thanks for waking up with

Cheener FM,

WKNR Detroit.

Here's a little Mo Town to

start your day.

[upbeat music]

-[clicks]

-[music stops]

[sighs]

[water running]

[somber music]

[faucet running]

[papers rustling]

[smacks]

[light clicks on]

-Morning, Mom.

-Oh, hi, honey.

Um, let me make you some coffee.

-[son] I got it.

-Okay.

Uh, well, I hope it hasn't come

to that.

Not yet, but if I don't

figure something out soon.

Yeah.

[coffee pouring]

Hey, I was thinking maybe

I'll skip next semester and

we can use the money to stave

off the

wolves for the next couple of

months.

Seriously, look, it's super

nice of you to offer, okay?

But your education comes first.

I'll figure something out.

I always have.

[indistinct]

You're leaving early.

Oh, yeah, I gotta pick somebody

up.

Oh, why's that?

Well, uh, her car is in the

shop.

Oh! Oh, her car is in the shop.

Mm, I see how you are.

Oh, sh**t. I gotta go. I love

you.

Love you, too.

[papers rustling]

[somber music]

Think I've been here

Before

I know

That I must have met you in a

Past life

Got my heart on the floor

Go slow

Keep me falling for you all

Night

Tell me now you're the one

I've been dreaming about

For my whole life that you

Are the one

Thanks for the ride.

My pleasure.

Well, cool.

'Cause my frigging

transmission's

gonna cost me a small fortune,

so...

We may be carpool buddies for a

while.

If that's okay?

I thought you said it was the

brakes.

Uh...

Honestly, it was probably that,

too.

It's probably some of

everything.

The whole thing's a problem.

Yeah, okay.

Hey, look at this picture I just

took.

Oh, wow. That's really nice.

Thank you.

You taking photography classes

at C.C.

I do not want to go.

[upbeat music]

Shout-out to the world so

They know

My sweet baby love you so

She got me going, yeah, she

Turns me on

And she loves me

-[doors swing open]

-Peters!

Peters!

Peters!

Nick!

Yeah, boss, what's up?

This guy's been trying to find

you.

Says it's urgent. Watch him call

him.

Who is he?

A lawyer.

What's the lawyer got to do with

me?

Don't know, don't care.

Can I call him?

Yeah, sure. But do it

on your time, not mine.

Brakes in ten. Back to work.

[paper thuds]

[ ]

[roll sliding]

Really? And it has to happen

this week?

I'm really sorry to be the

one to drop this news on you.

Hey, what's up, Nick?

Yeah, I will personally drive

the keys

out to your cabin tonight.

That'll make it easier for you.

Yeah, okay.

All right, thank you, Mr.

Peters.

Yeah, thanks.

What's up?

Dude, you look like you

just saw a ghost or something.

I kind of did.

What?

That was really weird.

What?

My dad is dead.

Oh, my God, I'm so sorry.

Yeah, dude, that sucks.

No, it's not even like

that. I didn't even know him.

Yeah, but still.

I guess he left me a bunch of

land in an old cabin up north.

Who gives a damn about the

cabin, dude?

Did he leave you any money?

I don't know. It doesn't matter

anyway.

I don't want nothing to do with

him.

What do they want you to go?

Right away.

You should probably go

then. At least check it out.

-[buzzer sounds]

-Well, it's time to make the

donuts.

Hey, wait, wait.

Nate, show him.

[Nate] All right, all right.

[girl] Okay, hold out your hand.

Show him what you can do. Ready?

[lighter flicks]

[laughs] No way.

Isn't that crazy?

Yeah, are we done here?

Yes. Thank you, sir.

Is that a cool superpower or

what?

Superpower?

Yeah, everyone's got one.

I bet you can't guess mine.

I can. She makes people like

me do

stupid sh*t like this.

[man] Peters!

I need those orders done today.

Production, please. Thank you.

[door closes]

Thank again for the

lift. See you in the morning?

No problem. I'll see you then.

sh**t!

Oh, hey, Cassie.

Oh, you forgot this.

Oh, right. So, what are you

gonna do?

You gonna check it out or what?

I know I couldn't resist if I

were you.

Ah, I don't really feel

like driving all the way up to

Maple Bluff, Michigan,

wherever the hell that is.

Did you just say Maple Bluff?

Like the Maple Bluff,

Michigan, home of the Squatch?

What?

Don't tell me. You don't know

the story about Maple Bluff.

All those Boy Scouts

got attacked by Bigfoot,

and they watched their scout

master get

dragged off into the woods

but like a ten foot tall hairy

beast?

Seriously?

Yeah. How do you not know about

this?

This is real as can be.

His body was never found,

and they even

ran a lie detector,

and like four of the five of

them passed.

What do you have to say to that?

Sounds like the fifth

one is the m*rder*r.

How do you not know about this?

What, are you living under a

rock?

I don't believe that you believe

in this.

I...

No. No.

What is this?

Are you kidding me?

All right. You caught me.

But now you know that I

most certainly do believe.

So when do we leave?

We?

I'm not letting you go

Bigfoot hunting without me.

You wouldn't stand a chance.

Come on. Let's do it. Road trip.

Well...

-Yay!

-[laughs]

We're going on a road trip.

And we're gonna see Bigfoot.

From what I remember, the

cabin really was pretty nice.

I really think you

should go and look at it.

I mean, even just to find out

what the

attorney has to say.

What do I want with a cabin?

The land alone could be worth a

fortune.

What's the worst that can

happen?

I mean, consider it a

well deserved vacation.

I mean, Lord knows you've earned

one.

You know I need all

the overtime I can get.

And that's not even the point.

What is it then?

[utensil scraping]

I don't want anything to do with

him.

I mean, he never cared

about me or you or us.

Hey, it's complicated.

Look, he did care about you.

He loved you very much.

If he cared, he'd be here.

We wouldn't be living like this.

Barely able to make ends meet?

If it weren't for him,

you wouldn't be here.

Besides, I mean, we're doing

okay.

Okay.

I'm 24. I'm working my a*s off.

I can barely afford classes at

a freaking community college.

Oh, and what's more, my

mother wakes up every day

for a job at the grocery

store... crying

because of the

situation that he left us in.

I say screw him.

But Nick, there's so

much more to it than that.

I mean, there's just so

much you just don't understand.

I don't need to understand

anything else.

I told you, it's complicated.

It's not complicated.

My dad was a piece of sh*t.

-Plain and simple.

-[smacks]

I'm sor--

Nick, I'm so sorry. I just...

2207 Trails and Road.

What the hell is Trails and

Road?

-It's not even on a g*dd*mn map.

-[car horn honking]

f*ck you!

Wait. That was it. sh*t.

Piece of sh*t.

Look at this thing.

[sighs]

[phone beeps]

[phone keys clicking]

[phone beeps]

[phone beeps]

[phone beeps]

[sighs]

[engine revs]

[lawyer] It's the last time I

volunteer for this sh*t.

No. Of course I don't

mind leaving a little early.

Drop the keys off in

the middle of nowhere.

Not a problem. My pleasure.

Every g*dd*mn road out here

looks like a trail's end to me.

[crickets chirping]

[distant whooping sound]

What the hell?

[engine revs]

-[thudding]

-sh*t!

Mother.

[car door chimes]

-sh*t.

-[car door slams]

What the f*ck?

[ominous music]

The f*ck is it?

[roaring]

[retching]

[splattering]

f*ck. f*ck.

[car door slams]

-[distant screaming]

-[growling]

What the hell?

[growling]

[smashing]

What the hell!

Come out here! Come on!

-What the f*ck?

-[thudding]

-[growling]

-[dragging]

[footsteps]

[birds chirping]

[blinds rustling]

Oh no.

What have I done?

Oh, Nick.

Okay. I have a confession.

A confession?

Well, I don't want to

start this trip off with a lie.

Whoa. Whoa. Who's lying?

Me.

About what?

My car. It's totally fine.

I thought that there was

something wrong,

but there's not. It's totally

drivable.

-I knew it.

-[laughs]

Can you ever forgive me?

Yeah, I think I can.

Get in.

[Cassie] What are you waiting

for? Let's get this show on the

road.

[man on radio] Sheriff Greg?

Greg here.

[man on radio] We got a call

from a Shoemaker.

He said her husband

didn't come home last night.

Frank? The lawyer?

[man on radio] Yep. One in the

same.

What was he driving?

[man on radio] Silver Fusion.

Alright. I'll keep an eye out

for it.

-[wind blowing]

-[birds chirping]

Whoa. Whoa. Nick. Stop. Stop.

Stop.

I have to get a picture of this.

Are you serious?

Look at those colors.

We'll never get there at this

rate.

Okay. Think about this.

We might be late, but we will

never be in this moment again.

Please.

My God.

You see, you can't deny me.

[laughs]

Come on. Hurry up, mister.

[Nick] You gotta wait till I

park the car.

-[car door closes]

-[camera shutters]

-Wow. These are beautiful.

-[camera shutters]

[Nick] Yeah, it's nice.

-Thank you for stopping.

-No problem.

[camera shutters]

It's great.

It's really, really beautiful.

Go stand on that bridge.

[camera shutters]

-No.

-Yes.

No, I don't think so.

-Come on. Go.

-I don't like my picture taken.

Oh, come on. Let's go.

Yeah, you're very convincing.

I really hate having my picture

taken.

[camera shutters]

What do I do?

Do something model-like.

Take your jacket off your

shoulders.

[Nick] Okay.

-Yeah, take your shirt off why

don't you.

-[Nick] Yeah. Uh-huh.

Okay.

-[Cassie] Blue steel.

-Blue steel.

Yeah. Okay.

Now, do something un-Nick-like.

This is un-Nick-like.

[Cassie] Make a face like you

ate something disgusting.

Like you're gonna puke.

Oh.

Or, okay, now you just won the

lottery.

-[Cassie] Are you just...

-Whoo!

Oh, yeah. Let it flow.

Okay.

[birds chirping]

That was amazing.

Me and animals. We just clicked.

We always have...

I told you I had a super power.

Yeah, but I thought that was

getting

[Indistinct]

Oh, that? No, no, no.

That's just my way.

You can't count that

as a legit super power.

Okay.

So, now that I've shown you

mine,

you have to show me yours.

What?

Your super powers?

What do you got?

Oh, I got nothing.

Don't be so cynical.

I've met thousands...

Oh, thousands.

Okay. Maybe not thousands, but

certainly

hundreds, Mr. Stigler.

And every last one of

them had a super power,

whether or not they were

aware of it.

Well, that's what I got then.

A super power that's

never surfaced in my life.

Fine.

Be cynical if you

want, but mark my words.

One day, all will be revealed.

And you'll call me and you'll

say, "You were right, Cassie."

And do you know why?

Because you're always right.

That's right, Nicky boy.

And you can take that to the

bank.

Does that count as another super

power?

It sure does.

I'm a regular super girl.

-That's about three.

-[laughs]

You've got some catching up to

do.

[engine revving]

[crickets chirping]

Should be it up here.

What are you doing? It's not

Blair Witch.

It's just really cool. It's

spooky here.

-[screams]

-[tires screech]

[gasps]

What the hell was that?

It was walking. I

mean, running on two feet.

That scared the sh*t out of me.

[panting]

No way.

No way, right?

[Cassie panting]

It had to be a bear.

That was a bear, right?

I didn't get it.

Are you sure about this?

[engine revs]

Are you sure that this is it?

I only know what they told me.

[window sliding]

Think that's a good idea?

[window sliding]

What's going on?

It's a car.

What?

Where are you going?

[car door shuts]

[Cassie] Oh!

What the hell is going on here?

Hello? Is anybody out there?

Shh.

Please don't yell like that.

-[door clicks open]

-[car door chimes]

Hello?

[car door shuts]

-Hello?

-[Cassie] Shh!

[whispers] What am I supposed to

do?

I don't know, but I don't

think that's a good idea.

We should call the police.

Then get in the car.

Check your phone for a signal.

[running footsteps]

Where are you going? We should

leave.

There's a lot of blood here.

Somebody's hurt.

We can't just up and leave them.

Yes, we can.

[sighs]

-[panting]

-[car door shuts]

No signal. sh*t.

Hello?

Is somebody there?

Okay, Nick.

Okay, come on, Nick.

-[window sliding]

-[exhales]

-[growling]

-[whooshing thud]

Hello?

Hello?

What the...

[Nick] Who's out there?

-[whooshing thud]

-[Nick grunts]

-[grunts]

-[running footsteps]

[Cassie panting]

[car door slams shut]

Oh my gosh.

[engine revs]

[panting]

[panting]

-[thud]

-[screaming]

It's just a bird.

[panting]

No, seriously, look. Is just

a bird.

[exhales]

I gotta get out of here.

[engine revs]

[Nick] Stay calm.

[flapping noise]

[gravel crunching]

[crickets chirping]

[man on radio] Thank you for

listening to KSQT.

K-Squatch. Maple Bluffs own

easy listening station.

Home of, The Squatch.

And now, a little more music to

sooth your evening.

[music playing]

[passing traffic]

[music continues]

[door clicks open]

[panting]

[door clicks shut]

Nick?

What the hell was that?

No, seriously, I mean

that car, the noise.

We have to go to the police.

Hey.

Are you hurt?

I'm fine.

-Let me see.

-I'm fine.

Well, let me see.

That's not fine.

[grunts]

That's not fine.

Come here.

That is not fine.

I don't want to go back there.

Never.

Promise me we don't

have to go back there.

No.

Never.

[kisses]

[bell tolling]

[birds chirping]

[sighs]

Unbelievable.

Don't be too nervous.

I just didn't know this guy.

This is all coming on kind of

quick.

I don't know what's going on.

I know, but just talk to him.

-You think?

-Yeah.

You'll be fine.

[exhales]

[door clicks open]

I had an appointment with Mr.

Schumacher.

Nick Peters? We've been

trying to get hold of you.

Mr. Peters, I'm Mr. Schumacher's

partner.

My name is Henry Thicket.

We found these keys

in his car last night.

Natalie, call the police.

-Where'd you find those?

-[Nick] Trails End Road.

Well, what's going on here?

That's what we're trying to find

out.

We haven't heard from Mr.

Schumacher in a couple days.

You mind telling me what's

happening here?

It was--

[Henry] It was what?

Too dark.

Yeah, it was too dark

and we weren't comfortable

going all the way to

the cabin, especially

after finding the car.

[Natalie] Thank you.

Sheriff wants to talk to you

too.

Stick around town.

[sighs]

All right, we've got some time.

You want to step into

Mr. Schumacher's office?

We can go over that trust if you

like.

-Sure.

-Sure?

Yes.

So, as you know, my

partner, Mr. Schumacher,

prepared this, so I'm not

that familiar with this

document.

So, you don't mind if I kind of

go through the go around?

Yeah, that's no problem.

Okay.

So, when did you get into town?

Last night.

Oh, yeah, you're going to

stay at that cabin, aren't you?

Yeah, I mean, we were, but--

Well, that's probably a

good idea that you didn't--

you don't know what

shaped that thing's in.

It's been a long time since your

father was up there and

disappeared.

Disappeared?

Well, yeah, you didn't know?

No, I guess not.

[sighs]

Nick, I don't know--

I don't know what my partner's

told you or what he's left out,

but look, your father

disappeared seven years ago.

Nobody knows what happened to

him.

He just vanished.

[sighs]

The body was never found,

nothing.

He was just gone. Poof.

This is crazy.

Well, it doesn't make any sense

then, so

you were never in

contact with your father?

No, he left when I was just

a baby, this whole thing is--

Yeah, right.

Well, I guess that makes sense.

Oh, hey, did you bring the

documents of--

Yeah.

[paper rustling]

Okay.

Two forms of ID and bank

statement with account numbers.

Okay, that's great.

All right, look, this

is pretty basic, really.

What your dad did is

he set up two documents.

The first document's

something we call a ladybird

deed.

The other is a simple trust, and

my law firm is the executor.

So we make sure everything's in

order,

everything's buttoned up.

We cross the T's, dot the

I's, that kind of thing,

and when it is all

buttoned up, we execute the

will,

or the trust in this case.

That sounds simple enough.

Yeah, it is pretty simple,

actually.

Oh, there is one stipulation,

you're gonna love this.

It says you have to spend

one night in that cabin.

[chuckles] You're kidding.

No, no, it says so right here.

[Henry] Right there.

Why?

I don't know, probably wants

to make sure you appreciate it

before you go off and sell it,

maybe have

some time around it, so, yeah.

Oh, no, thanks.

I appreciate your time.

I'm sorry to have wasted it.

Oh, no, wait, wait, wait, wait.

Appears there's been a pretty

significant

amount of money that was left to

your

father from his father,

and that's all being

signed off to you on this.

How significant?

Just south of half a million

dollars.

Half a million dollars?

[Henry] Mm-hmm.

Well, it's up to you.

[indistinct chatter]

[indistinct chatter]

Order up!

I gotta do it. [indistinct]

No, we're not. If you're going,

so am I.

[waitress] Hey, guys, how are

you?

Welcome to the Berlin Diner,

[indistinct] two today.

All right, come on this way.

Yeah.

-Yes, I am.

-No, you're not.

Yes, I am.

Here you go. Is this okay?

-Mm-hmm.

-Yeah.

So...

Why would he have done that?

Well, maybe he didn't

want me to sell the place off.

Was it some kind of

test or like a sick game?

Sure feels like it. Maybe

there's something out there,

something that he wants me to

know.

I don't know, wishful thinking.

[waitress] Here you go.

I know it's none of my

business, but how much money?

-A lot.

-Like a lot, a lot?

A lot, a lot, a lot.

Like enough to change

a life, help my mom.

Then we have to do it.

No, we don't. I do.

It's too weird and dangerous.

I'm not taking a chance.

You might get hurt out there.

Me? What about you, tough guy?

You need someone to watch

your back and your front.

[laughs]

Come on. Let's do it.

We can cuddle up again.

Maybe there's a fireplace.

I'm not taking no for an answer.

There you go. Flexing

your superpower again.

I'm a lot tougher than I look.

[laughs]

You need me there.

You're getting sleepy. So

sleepy.

-So sleepy.

-[spoon clinking]

-Mm-hmm.

-You need Cassie by your side.

Okay, all right. You can come.

Yay.

[kisses]

So what are you going to get?

[indistinct restaurant chatter]

[sighs]

[sighs]

[sighs]

[passing traffic]

[Nick] Well, what do we need?

Oh, no. [indistinct]

-Sure. Well...

-We should look for Cheerios.

Cheerios.

See, I told you.

No way.

They're getting in the spirit,

huh?

[door clicks open]

-Mothballs?

-Nope.

-Lightbulbs?

-Nope.

[sighs]

Extension cords?

No.

I don't think this place is

going to have what we need.

Uh, it doesn't look like

it. Why don't we just ask?

Yeah, okay.

You think one stop shop

in a small town like this?

Yeah, you know that.

-Hi there.

-Hi. How are you?

-Good, man.

-Good.

Uh...

Do you have any g*ns?

No g*ns.

What about Cheerios?

Oh, Cheerios. This is a hardware

store.

Anything else?

[bags rustling]

We'll take these.

[cashier] Okay.

[Cassie] What is that?

What are they doing?

Damn, boys.

Finally got proof.

[indistinct radio chatter]

Ya'll throw it in the back of

the Jeep.

No report on this one.

Think it's a body?

Oh, and any boy goes to the

inquirer,

gets a b*llet for me.

[birds chirping]

Out of the car!

[indistinct radio chatter]

[seatbelt clicking]

[car door closes]

Don't tell me. Nick Peters?

Yes, sir.

You weren't supposed to

leave town, Nick Peters.

Sorry, I thought this

was a part of town.

Well, it's not.

There's no reason to be a

smartass, son.

I'll take you in just because.

Uh, wait a second, Sheriff.

Busey, you can't just do that.

Quiet, girl.

Or I'll take you both in.

What you got there, Sheriff?

It's a bear cub carcass.

This is an active crime scene.

You can't do that here.

Oh, I thought this was America.

I've got rights.

No, this is my jurisdiction.

You're already guilty

of not reporting a crime.

How would you like to

spend the next, I don't know,

12 weeks coming up here and

doing a

little community service?

Oh, okay, all right.

We just want to cooperate.

I think both of you better move

on.

Uh, don't you want to take our

statements, Mr. Officer, sir?

Not gonna tell you again.

Okay, look, we don't want any

trouble.

You know where to find

us if you need us, sir.

Indeed I do.

[car doors closing]

[engine starting]

That was weird.

What were you doing?

That cop was just

about ready to sh**t you.

Screw that guy.

Community service, my a*s.

He was obviously hiding

something.

I mean, where does he get off?

I was about to give him a piece

of my

mind if he hadn't stopped me.

-Don't let him get to you.

-I can't help it.

That guy just got to me.

You know, we may have

just found your superpower.

Calm.

And it's annoying as hell.

There you go again.

[engine revs]

[car doors closing]

What do you think?

It's not what I expected at all.

Yeah, me neither.

It's beautiful.

Now I know why he

wanted you to stay here.

Well, it's not the

cabin I'm worried about.

[gravel crunching]

[keys jangling]

[birds chirping]

[screen door squeaking]

[door squeaks open]

This is really nice.

We could have a fire.

We could cuddle on the couch.

[floor creaking]

Nick?

[sighs]

He looks like a nice enough guy.

You all look so happy.

We probably were.

I never knew what he looked

like.

He's handsome. Like you.

-Could you?

-Of course.

"My dearest Nick,

know that writing this is the

second

hardest thing that I've ever

done.

In the beginning, your mother

and I were

so madly, passionately in love.

As much as any people

have ever been in love.

Then we had you and to our

surprise and

delight, our love increased

tenfold.

We were such a happy family.

And you were my pride

and joy, my perfect boy.

But as life would have it,

nothing that

good can last forever.

Suffice it to say that

things really fell apart one

day,

when Kate and I found ourselves

in the

worst argument of our young

lives.

It was completely out of

control,

screaming and shoving each

other,

escalating ugliness.

It ended with my losing control.

And before I knew it, in a flash

I...

struck her.

I actually hit your sweet

mother.

I was so ashamed that I could

not bear to

look into her eyes a second

longer.

And when I looked away, you were

there.

My sweet horrified boy.

And I knew in that instant that

I could

never face either of you ever

again.

My life was over.

I turned and I ran.

And for that, I'm eternally

sorry to your

mother and especially to you,

son.

I want you to know that I don't

expect

you to forgive me or to

understand.

But I did what I did and I've

lived with

the consequences every single

day since.

I always knew that someday your

mother

would meet someone special.

And have a wonderful life.

I think of you always.

And my greatest regret is

having missed

out on watching you become a

man.

You're forever in my heart."

He's wrong.

We wanted him to come back.

He didn't know.

[sniffs]

Thank you for being here.

I wouldn't want to be anywhere

else.

[water running]

Nick, get the firewood!

[door creaks]

[crickets chirping]

[footsteps]

[cracking]

Easy, son.

I come in peace.

Your father and I didn't talk

much, but

we had a hunter's bond.

And we hunted these woods and

fished

these streams every chance we

got.

He was a good man, but he

carried a heavy burden inside.

I guess that's what we had in

common.

[fire crackling]

Anyway, the last time I saw him,

he was

headed out to find that scout

master.

I'm afraid that monster got him.

Monster?

Yeah.

Squatch.

It is real.

And it k*lled your father.

[scoffs]

I don't believe that.

Those are just stories.

That's what I would have

thought too, but trust me.

It's out there.

Look, we have an early morning,

and it's getting kind of late.

Oh, yeah. Right. Right.

Best be going before

it gets too dark out.

Thanks for the coffee.

[door creaks open]

[crickets chirping]

[creaking]

It was a nice meeting you.

[door creaking and slams shut]

[lock clicks]

That explains everything. All of

it.

The noises, the rocks throwing.

That explains

nothing. Bigfoot isn't real.

Are you kidding me?

For all we know, that guy k*lled

him.

Look, we're just going to hold

here for

the night, wait for the lawyer

to come in

the morning, verify we stayed,

and then get the hell out of

here.

After everything we'd been

through, did

you hear that guy? About your

dad?

It all makes sense. He even

mentioned the scout

leader and the one about the

car.

-[laughs]

-We drove through and

then we turned and

then we-- and I got him on my

phone--

[kisses]

[woman] Hello?

Is that lunatic back?

Hello?

Nick!

Mom?

You've got to be kidding me.

[thudding]

Hello?

-[distant shriek]

-Hello?

Hello?

[roaring]

Nick!

Seriously, Nick, are you in

there?

Seriously, hey, what is going

on?

There are cop cars here. I

couldn't get through. Are you in

trouble?

-No.

-What did you do?

What? What? Can you just

tell me what's going on?

[door creaking]

Why? Don't you shush me?

What?

-Just tell me what's going on.

-[slamming]

What is that?

What? Stop pushing me!

Just sit there with

Cassie. Give me a second.

What? Will you tell me what's

going on?

What is going on? What is

going--

Will you just tell me what is

going on?

Hush, Mom. Be quiet.

[whispers] Hi. I'm Cassie.

[growling]

[rock slamming]

-[screaming]

-Oh my--

Are you okay? Are you guys okay?

Yeah. Are you okay?

[mom] What's that? What is going

on?

-[growling]

-[gasping]

[lamp clicks]

-[growling]

-[thuds and slamming]

[panting]

[screaming]

-[growling]

-[rock slamming]

-Stay here. Where it's safe.

-[mom and Cassie] No!

[mom] No, no, no, no. Where you

going?

[Nick] I just--

-[rock slamming]

-[screaming]

-[slamming]

-[screaming]

[growling]

-[rock slamming]

-[screaming]

-[slamming]

-[screaming]

[growling]

-[slamming]

-[screaming]

[thudding]

[door creaks open]

-[growling]

-[g*nshots]

-[growling]

-[screaming]

[g*n c*ck]

-It's gone.

-[mom] What?

It's gone.

[car doors slam shut]

[ignition clicks]

Nick!

[engine revs]

-[slams]

-[tires screeching and

screaming]

[screaming]

Nick, go faster! Nick, go

faster!

[engine accelerates]

[grunting]

[grunting]

[growling]

It's gone. It's gone. I think it

stopped.

Yeah, but for how long?

[growling]

[engine clanking]

-[engine cranking]

-[panting]

[engine cranking]

No, no. Are you kidding me?

-[grunting]

-[slamming]

God!

[panting]

Nick.

[distant screaming]

-Nick.

-[distant screaming continues]

Now what?

-Nick!

-[car door shuts]

[crickets chirping]

[car doors shutting]

[leaves rustling]

We got two choices.

One, we can try to make it to

main road.

Two, we go back.

Back to the cabin? Are you

crazy?

Look, if we try to go back to

the cabin, it's like a mile.

We're looking at five

maybe to get to the main road.

I think we should go back to the

cabin.

At least as a shelter.

Gotta go back.

[footsteps]

[leaves crunching]

Yeah, this is good. We're about

halfway.

-[thuds]

-sh*t!

-I lost my shoe.

-[Cassie] Are you okay?

f*ck.

I'll look for it.

Okay.

-Okay?

-Yeah.

[mom] Oh, I got it. I got it.

[Nick] Let's get back.

[screaming]

[roaring]

[screams]

Hey!

Hey!

[growling]

No!

-Hey!

-[footsteps thudding]

Hey!

Hey, you!

[thudding]

-[growling]

-[thuds]

-[roaring]

-[footsteps thudding]

[door rattling]

-[flare hissing]

-[roaring]

-[whooshing]

-[thuds]

[door creaks]

[door shuts]

[panting]

-Okay?

-I need a cigarette.

Me too.

You don't smoke.

-I'll start.

-Right here.

Bad idea.

You think that thing

doesn't know where we are?

Yeah, I'm sure it does.

[growling]

[fire crackling]

[match strikes]

It should hold it off for a

while.

Can't take the stress.

Why did you come here?

When I found out you were

heading here,

I was flooded with a

million old feelings.

And I knew in my heart that we

had to

have that talk that we've been

avoiding,

that both of us have avoided.

God, I thought about

it the whole way here.

I mean, hell, for the

last 20 years, really.

I don't know how to say this to

you.

Just say it, Mom?

Your father was a good man.

We loved each other very much.

We were so happy.

Even with both of us having

jobs,

we couldn't seem to make ends

meet.

I mean, it didn't

matter what we were doing.

We just got further and further

behind.

And he was away for work all the

time.

And when he was home, he was

exhausted.

And I was picking up extra

weekend shifts,

and we just had so little time

together.

So little time.

And life was hard.

And I was lonely.

And in a moment of weakness...

-I cheated on him.

-No!

It was the worst thing I have

ever done.

I could have ever done to him.

To you, to us.

Oh, my God.

I mean, our love was still so

strong.

It broke him.

I don't believe this.

I loved your father so much.

Then why? Why would you do that?

Why am I just learning about it

now?

Because life is complicated.

We both made our share of

mistakes.

Like people make mistakes.

-It's not fair, Mom.

-I know it's not fair.

I know. And I tried to tell you

like a million different times,

but I just couldn't.

You deserved to know.

You're damn right I did.

All this time, all my life, the

parent

that I thought was the good guy,

you were the bad one.

No, no, Nick, there

are no bad guys in this.

Yes, Mom. You, you are the

reason.

No, no, I was just a kid, okay?

Maybe I wanted to make

him jealous. I don't know.

But I wanted him back.

You should have thought about

that.

Can you see how sorry she is?

I can't lose you like I lost

him.

He wanted you to forgive her.

What?

Your father in the letter.

We didn't finish it.

[letter rustling]

Look at it.

Read it.

"Nick.

This is ancient history.

There are no regrets to be had.

You need to forgive both of us.

You were conceived in love.

It was my stupidness, my vanity,

that kept your mother and I

apart.

You need to forgive her.

We all need to forgive each

other more.

The world would be such a better

place if

we all just gave each other

the benefit of the doubt."

[crying]

I'm so sorry.

Oh, of course.

Here.

Here, you take these.

Okay. I want you to have them.

Okay?

[man] Hello, you in there?

Get in here.

That thing's on a rampage.

It's been trying to get in the

cabin.

Holy sh*t.

[Nick] Yeah.

[Nick] I shot it.

Yeah.

I shot it.

Didn't even flinch.

With that, no wonder.

You'd be lucky to bag a

pheasant with that pea sh**ter.

I did manage to scare it off,

though.

Good, but not for long I'd

wager.

Well, what do you suggest we do?

I'll tell you exactly

what we're gonna do.

Just through those woods on

the logging trail is my truck.

Loaded with enough hardcore

firepower

that we could hold up here

for a week against a whole

pack of them hairy f*ck.

Oh, let's go then.

No.

You stay here with the ladies.

Hold the fort, son.

And the m*therf*cking cavalry

will be

back before you know it.

[door clicks open]

[door creaking]

[lock clicks]

[sighs]

[fire crackling]

I have to stoke the fires.

Nick, don't go out there.

It's our only defense against

that thing.

I can't let them go out.

Lock the door behind me.

[cans thudding]

-[growling]

-[rock slamming]

[door creaks open]

[door creaks shut]

They're going good for now.

That should hold for a while.

-[screaming]

-[slamming]

[Nick] No!

-[screaming]

-[blood squelching]

[mom] What? What the f*ck?

[crying]

[screen door creaking]

[Cassie] Is he...

Yeah.

[crying]

[fire crackling]

[sobbing]

So what do we do now?

Stay calm.

Just...

Stay calm and think.

That's all we can do.

What does this thing want from

us?

Why won't it just let us be?

What does it want?

Not what.

Who?

You mean...

It wants its baby.

That bloody mess was its baby?

That's what the police chief was

putting

into the trunk of his

car when we pulled up.

That's why he was acting so

weird.

So what do we do now?

I have to go back. I have to go

get it.

No, Nick, you cannot go back out

there.

What choice do we have?

That thing's gonna k*ll every

one of us

trying to get to that baby.

What? Are you crazy?

What are you gonna do once you

get this

thing back? What, just give it

back?

You got a better idea, Ma?

Uh, yeah. Sit here and

wait it out until morning.

[Nick] There's not gonna be a

morning.

This whole cabin wasn't built to

withstand the impact of a gravel

truck.

I've gotta go now.

Then I'm going with you.

No, Cassie.

You two need to stay together...

and keep the fires lit.

[exhales]

[sheets tearing]

[flame crackling]

[crickets chirping]

[footsteps]

[door creaking]

[mom groans]

Did he leave?

Yeah.

Where are you going?

The fires are dying.

So?

There's wood in the shed.

Don't go alone.

Please let me come with you.

Okay. Quiet.

I know.

Shh.

[gravel crunching]

-[screaming]

-[gasping]

-[screaming]

-[gasping]

[screaming]

[gravel crunching]

[screaming]

[Cassie] Come on! Come on!

There.

Okay.

-Here, here.

-Yes.

Here, here. Take a couple more.

sh*t. This is it.

[growling]

[Cassie] Okay. Let's go.

[running footsteps]

[screen door creaking]

[footsteps]

Hey, watch out.

[fire whooshing]

[fire crackling]

Hey.

Maybe we should go back inside.

I can't.

Not until he's back.

[footsteps]

[flame crackling]

[indistinct shouting]

[jeep door clicking]

[coughing]

[grunting]

[grunting]

I'll split it with you.

You know, I don't think

that's a good idea. The gas.

Are you kidding me?

I've been a smoker for 30 years.

I mean, this is the most

stressed out

I've been in my entire life.

You don't think I

deserve one last cigarette?

I don't know. There's a lot of

things people do to relieve

their stress.

Try something else.

Like what?

Biting your nails.

I can't already do that.

Seriously? That's gross.

Funny, coming from

someone who just suggested it.

[grunting]

[crashing]

[crashing]

[grunting]

[crashing]

[grunting]

[distant howling]

[fire crackling]

[footsteps]

[distant growling]

-[g*n c*ck]

-[g*nsh*t]

Nick.

Nick.

[sobbing]

[thuds]

[crying]

-[crickets chirping]

-[fire crackling]

[leaves crunching]

[roaring]

[roaring]

[breathing heavily]

[exhales]

[growling]

Get down!

[growling]

[g*nsh*t]

[grunts]

[screams]

[grunts]

-[grunts]

-[thudding]

[grunting]

-[thudding]

-[screams]

[growling]

-[crashing]

-[grunting]

[grunting]

[growling]

[grunting]

[spits]

[screams]

[growling]

[footsteps]

[silent dialogue]

[growling]

[glass shattering]

[crashing]

You protect your baby.

I'll protect mine.

[growling]

[flame whooshing]

[spits]

No!

[grunts]

No, no, no, no, no.

[flames crackling]

No!

[flames crackling]

No!

No!

-[mouthing] I love you.

-[flames crackling]

No!

[flames raging]

[fire whooshing]

[flames crackling]

[grunts]

[car approaching]

[car door clicks open]

[birds chirping]

[car doors slam shut]

[engine revs]

-[footsteps]

-[bird cawing]

[gate squeaking]

[birds chirping]

[roaring]

[whooping noise]

Is that one, I did not hear it

live.

That was actually recorded.

Because you're out there and

something

is making a noise that

sounds kind of like it's

talking.

You don't know if it's talking

to you.

And it's dark.

And so your mind is

automatically thinking,

oh, what's out here?

Is it a person, which is scary?

Is it a monster?

Is it a ghost?

Is it Bigfoot?

I don't want any of

those things in the woods.

Got me upside down spinning

Around you

Wanna taste the clouds, dance

With the moon

Take a trip around your

Body

Boy I love the way you got me

Starry eyed, got me starry

Eyed Starry eyed

Losing all my focus I can't

Even control it

You know lips are

Golden baby get me high

Touching me like lightning,

Yeah keeping it exciting

You know exactly what

To do to blow my mind

You're from another planet

I've never felt like this

I don't know how I ever

Survived without it

I'm starry eyed

Got me upside down

Spinnin' around you

Wanna taste the clouds dance

With the moon

Take a trip around your Body,

boy I love the way you got me

Starry eyed

Got me starry eyed

This bed is outer space just

Keep painting constellations

You cover me in glitter till

I'm shining bright

I never wanna leave the sky,

The way make me feel alive

I was in the dark and

Baby you're the light

You're from another planet

I've never felt like this I

Don't know how I ever survived

Without it

I'm starry eyed

Got me upside down

Spinnin' around you

Wanna taste the clouds dance

With the moon

Take a trip around your Body,

boy I love the way you got Me

Starry eyed

Got me starry eyed

Couldn't fight if I wanted

Flying to places that I never

Thought I could go

You're meteor shower, fallin'

Down all over me

Yeah you're making me glow

Couldn't fight if I wanted

Flying to places that I never

Thought I could go

Starry eyed, got me

Starry eyed

Got me upside down

Spinnin' round you

Wanna taste the clouds

Dance with the moon

Take a trip around your body

Boy I love the way you got me

Starry eyed

Got me starry eyed

Got me upside down

Spinnin' around you

Wanna taste the clouds

Dance with the moon

Take a trip around your body

Boy I love the way you got me

Starry eyed

Got me starry eyed

Got me upside down

Spinnin' around you

Wanna taste the clouds

Dance with the moon

Take a trip around your body

Boy I love the way you got me

[music fades out]

[distant howl]
