the apparition of a little girl

and witnessed the fear

these hauntings caused
firsthand.

investigator

and documentary filmmaker,

to travel the heartland

and bring resolution
to the living and the dead.

Malvern, it's a small community,

rural farming community.

Malvern started in 1869.

The community evolved because
of the railroad,

'cause the railroad
brought in commerce.

It is a very small town.

It is a very
family-oriented town.

They know everyone.

You know, I kind of wonder
of the community

that's been around for so long.

It would make sense that there
would be some people left over.

and I think that this town
is just haunted.

I've lived in malvern
for about three years.

I have two sons, kaleb and luke,

and we've been in our home
for three years.

When I bought this house,
I was looking for a place

that the boys and I could
start over after my divorce.

Knowing that we had a place

and that I was doing it
on my own,

it was a turning point for us.

I lived here about a year

with the boys by ourselves
before I met james.

When I met rebecca,

I was in a pretty dark spot
in my life,

and then she walked in,

and my life changed forever
right then.

Eventually, we got engaged

and we were starting
to make our house a home.

But when james moved in,
things were never the same.

At first, it was just, you know,

little things,
like a knock or a bang,

but then, you know,
it took a turn.

I knew I wasn't alone.
You could sense a presence.

It's really, really
terrifying for the boys.

Luke, he still
can't sleep alone.

We're at our wit's end.

We don't know what step
to take next.

If I can't protect them,
I don't know what I would do.

is the two young boys

are experiencing activity
to the point

I think this home kind of

the worse things got.

We started hearing noises
in the basement.

The first time
something happened,

were sitting upstairs in bed,

and it sounded like there
was somebody in the basement.

Heard, like, what sounds
like arguing.

He told me to stay there,

turned on all
the outside lights,

went and checked downstairs

to make sure
nobody actually broke in.

It was 2:00
in the morning.

I went downstairs, and nothing.

When you would go downstairs,
you can immediately feel

your heart start to race.

You want to turn around,
but you don't

because you're afraid
of what you're gonna see.

Coming up these stairs
from doing laundry one day,

james and I actually
heard a growl,

and that was the very first time

that I have ever heard
something like that.

It was like a whole nother level

that I was starting
to experience.

so you guys were right
at the foot of the stairs...

you heard the growl?

What were you doing
at that moment?

Is there anything specific
you were doing or talking about?

I believe we were doing laundry.

whatever was in the home?

like, "this is our home.

But that -- it's never worked.

This is the room that I heard

what sounds like a voice.

And every time I come in here...

to think, "okay,

we've had experiences.

I was dozing off.

I just felt like something
was watching me.

So I opened my eyes,

and right there at the foot
of the bed is a little girl.

What stood out was her eyes
were just completely black.

She was wearing, like,
just this white nightgown.

And then she c*ck her head
just all the way to the side

like that and just went,
"play?"

then at that point, I just took
the covers, like a little kid,

and put them over my head,

and I'm just like --
I just promised myself

I wasn't gonna open my eyes
again that night.

Luke, which is the youngest one,

we had his room
in the back bedroom.

Since we moved in, he did not
want to sleep in that room.

He was 4 when we moved in,

so I thought it was just
a normal childhood thing,

but he just would always come
in my room

or want to sleep
with his brother.

One day I was walking
down the hallway,

and I heard him crying.

He had the blanket
pulled over his head.

I went in there and I was like,
"hey, buddy, what's going on?"

and he told me that a child
whispered in his ear,

"I can hear you."

This, when I first
moved in, was luke's room.

As you can see now, it's kind
of our office, toy room,

just kid room.

We've moved his bed out,
and they have bunk beds now,

but his bed used
to be right here,

and just he never felt
comfortable in here.

When he starts telling you

that he's afraid of the room,

was there a description of what
he might have been experiencing?

He said he's seen this
scary lady in that closet.

of what they say
is a young, dark-eyed girl.

Things recently reached
a breaking point

when her son claims to have

seen something horrifying
in his closet.

He used the term "witch."

that they're seeing.

We moved his room,
and he was on the bottom bunk.

He still did not want

It was very hard feeling
like I couldn't protect them.

I don't want to say you failed
as a parent,

but you try to --
you try to protect your kids,

and, you know, what
they get to see.

And you can't.
You can't.

You know, how -- I couldn't
protect him from that.

What's very unique
about this case is that

if you listen to
what they're telling me,

it's something different
for everybody.

James is seeing a little girl
with black eyes.

The kids seeing
what they call a witch.

Are they different spirits
or is it one inhuman spirit

representing itself
in a different fashion?

until we start investigating.

that can actually be used

to communicate

definitely felt a presence,

However, based on all the things
that the family has told me,

that doesn't really seem to jive
with a child spirit haunting.

Typically, child spirits
are more curious or mischievous,

not malevolent.

So there's more of the picture
here that needs to emerge.

see what I can find out
about this town as a whole.

that there's something there.

exactly as james described.

But who is this apparition
and what does she want?

of the stories of a little girl

that could explain that
apparition of a little girl?

In our research and looking
into the house,

could be the spirit
of who we call inez gibson.

Who is inez?
This was a story

that absolutely rocked
this little community for sure.

The story with inez gibson --
we're talking way back

in 1900 --

with inez gibson
and her brother otto.

We know that mom
and dad got a divorce.

Neither one of them could
really care for these children.

So they came up to malvern
to stay with aunt and uncle

who were grocers in town.

I do know, at one point,
her biological mother

wrote to them and said
that she was going to come back

when the weather turned nicer

and she was gonna collect
her kids,

she was gonna bring them
back home with her.

And inez supposedly was quoted
once as saying,

"I would rather die than go back
and live with my mother."
