Obviously, this is a fight that I think
none of us expected to ever be hosting,
but here we are,
it's happening, it's real, everybody.
Initial reaction, what was it Laila?
Absolutely crazy, but I do feel
it is a defining moment
for both of these guys.
I liked it, Jake has been asking
for this fight, and tonight, he got it.

-Me, I said,
"What, for real, is it for real?"
I didn't know if it was for real or not,
I didn't believe it.
For real, this is a very bad idea for you,
Jake, or what kind of for real?
For real, it's a bad idea for Jake,
because he's really bitten off
a big lump right now,
and his name's Ant-- Anthony Joshua.
It's-- I mean, it's a real fight, right?

of Jake, do you think?
Yeah, it's the lane that he's created.
This is what he is,
and this is what he does.

I don't feel he has any business
being in the ring

I mean, I like what Jake's doing.
I respect that he's been working so hard.
I see a lot of improvement,
and I do consider him a real boxer
even though some people don't, I do.
But honey, not with Anthony Joshua,

Uh, well, Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul,
we do know are two very different fighters
with very different resumes.
We can show you just how different.
Take a look at this.
Anthony Joshua has over a decade
more experience in the game.
Uh, he's been in 13 title fights,
Jake meanwhile has been in zero.
Anthony Joshua's fought
some of the best heavyweights of his era,
and every champion or former champion
that Joshua fought was in his prime
or very close to it.
That is not at all the case for Jake Paul,
who faced Mike Tyson
when he was 58 years old,
and then Chvez Jr.
when he was a good decade past his best.
That gulf in class
and experience in size as well,
let's not even talk about that,
but what that means is
-Anthony Joshua has to dominate, Lennox.
-He has to dominate.
He has to go in there
and basically do what he wants to do
because he's the expert in there.
He's the-- He's the pride of the bunch.
So, when he goes in there,
he can basically take his time
and knock him out when he wants to
because that's what's--
-That's what's gonna happen.
-Regardless of the size of the paycheck,
it still takes a lot of ba*ls
to get into the ring with a heavyweight
when you're not a heavyweight.
How much do you respect Jake Paul
for taking the fight?
I respect him for taking the fight.
And, you know, this is a fight
where a lot of people,
he's built a lot of his reputation
on people wanting to see him lose.
And that's why they're gonna
tune in tonight because they think,
"Okay, tonight's the night."
He's facing a real guy,
former heavyweight champion.
And I'm excited to see
how how it turns out
because Anthony Joshua has a lot
of pressure on him tonight too.
It feels like the narrative
around Jake Paul as well has been,
we wanna see him take on a real challenge.
Now, he takes on a real challenge
and we're all like,
"Oh, Lord, are you sure?"

But I think
that he calls himself delusional, right?

because us in the boxing community,
we're just kind of like, "Um, you have

That's how improbable all of this is.
But don't you dare tell Jake Paul
that a win tonight is impossible.

that none of us saw this fight coming
until it was actually signed,
it was actually announced.
Uh, and a look at the timeline
of the two fighters' careers
will tell you just why
we didn't expect this fight to happen.
Anthony Joshua, you'll remember,
is an Olympic gold medalist.
Won the London Games, that was in 2012.
One year later, 16-year-old Jake Paul
began making Vine videos
with his brother Logan,
hitting two billion views.
That same year AJ
began his professional boxing career.
By 2016, Jake was a Disney TV star.
By 2017, AJ was the unified
heavyweight champion of the world.
On his 20th birthday,
Jake Paul founded a media company
with a million dollars in funding.
Not bad. Shortly after his 30th,
Anthony Joshua regained
the heavyweight titles
that he had lost earlier in 2019.
He became a two-time
heavyweight champion of the world.
Jake Paul's first pro fight came in 2020.
That was right here in Miami.
In 2021, Joshua relinquished his titles
to pound-for-pound number one,
Oleksandr Usyk, and in that same year,
Jake co-founded Most Valuable Promotions,
signaling his real commitment
to this sport of boxing,
and that all has led us to tonight
and one of the most unexpected matchups
that the sport has ever seen.
What that means is if you are Jake Paul,
you better have a good game plan
coming into this one.
-Lennox, what does that need to look like?
-Well, he needs to move.
That's for one thing.
If he stays in one spot,
he's gonna get hurt. So, I believe
he's gonna be moving around
until the appointed time
where Anthony Joshua commits to a punch.
And then Jake is gonna throw some punches.
But I don't see him
really hurting Anthony Joshua.
So, we're gonna have to see.
We've seen him hurt
other people, though, right?
We've seen him hurt
Nate Robinson, Tyron Woodley.
He has got some some punch power there.
He's got some heavy hands.
-How does he land them?
-With the right hand,
not the jab, not the left hook.
And Lennox is right.
Um, Jake Paul has to move early.
He has to stay away from the bigger guy.
We looked at that ring,
we saw it's a big ring.
It's not a big ring
once Anthony Joshua gets in there.
It's gonna shrink.
So, he's gonna have to be smart,
but then he can look
for a right hand here and there
because Joshua does make mistakes,
and he can be hurt.
One thing we should remember
in the context of this fight is
that Jake-- Jake Paul, sorry,
was originally preparing
for a 135 pounder, Gervonta Davis.
Now, he's fighting Anthony Joshua,
who's 245 pounds almost.
How how do you handle that switch?
I mean, that's part of what you do.
He's he's living his life as a fighter.
He's been training for a long time.
He's been sparring with heavyweights.
He's been preparing himself,
he feels, mentally.
He feels Anthony Joshua
doesn't even have that good of skills.
He says he's very basic, right?
So, Jake says that he's faster.
Jake says he can knock him out
with his right hand.
And he's told us what his game plan is,
but I don't think it's really smart
to tell what your real game plan is.
But like we've all said, he's got to keep
moving and just not get knocked out.
Yeah, basic feels a little harsh to me.

you've got to respect his work ethic

He had a very serious training camp.
He hired some
very talented sparring partners,
put a lot into his preparation
and his recovery.
But look, he didn't come up
the traditional way like you did
and many of the others watching.

It's his delusional optimism
that he always talks about
that has got him to this point
on this global stage, on Netflix,
in the main event,
in only his 14th professional fight.
David, for your compatriot Joshua,
it's not about proving greatness,
-it's about protecting it.

It's a unique situation

where the boxing fraternity
are expecting and demanding
a first or second-round knockout.
Anything other than that,
people are gonna start

about Anthony Joshua.
But that pressure brings

When you try to knock somebody out,
I know this, it's very difficult.
You need to let it flow.
And is Anthony Joshua going
to flow or is he going
to really seam across the ring
and let those punches fly?
It's going to be very interesting.
AJ told us
that it would be a huge disappointment
if he didn't get the first-round KO.
While the Duke of Disruption,
he promises a knockout
by exploiting one of Joshua's

and it comes in round one.

and that punch landed.
It was a left hand,
I believe, that landed for Harvey.
He's now working from orthodox

You said how comfortable he looks
in that southpaw stance,
and then, boom,
hits him with the flush left hand.
I think Cervantes
was a little bit off balance,
but there was no doubt about it.
A punch was landed clean there.

as well for Jahmal Harvey.
[David] Lightning speed.
Absolutely lightning.
He puts his punches together
so crisp and so clean.
And not only that, he's getting out
after he lands those shots.
[Mauro] Now, switches to southpaw
with 40 seconds left in the first.
He's already put Cervantes on the deck.
Remember, Cervantes
in his sixth professional fight
has nothing but knockouts.
And, oh, Harvey looking for a score
with that right uppercut that just missed.
Doing the shoulder roll now
and immediately responds
with a good combination on the inside.
[Crystina] Perfect punch placement
with that left hand there.
He read it, defensively slick,
and landed it right to the body.
[Mauro] And that check right hook
staggered Cervantes momentarily,
knocking him off balance.
And we're seeing
the punch placement of Harvey,
the jab going upstairs,
downstairs, very calm,
cool, and collected for just
his second professional fight.
[David] He's like a coiled spring
-ready to explode at any time.

Although Cervantes agrees,
you see him flick the jab
out there with the right hand
and then come
through with the straight left,
that right hand over the guard there.
And you could see
that Cervantes was kind of swinging
a little bit off balance
with the right.
-[David] Flash knockdown.
-[Kate] Yes, and not hurt by any means,
but there was
a punch landed there from Harvey.
[Mauro] And a huge advantage for Harvey,
21 of 61
in terms of total punches
landed according to CompuBox.
Just 1 of 17 for Cervantes.
So, it was a blizzard of offense.
Lightning-quick offense
from Jahmal Harvey in his second fight.
Just misses with the one-two
from the southpaw stance.
Oh, and he gets countered sharply
with that left hand,
but Cervantes trying to close the gap.
Harvey's got
a great check right hook as well, David.
[David] It's so comfortable.
He doesn't load it up, it's just there,
but it's so fast and crisp.
It's the speed of everything he's doing,
his footwork, his head placement,
the hand placement is
Everything he's doing is
as good as it can get.
[Mauro] And it's obvious
this Olympian has a pro style, Crystina.
[Crystina] He really does.
I mean, this is his only time
fighting in a second round as a pro,
and he got that first round stoppage
in his pro debut,
and he looks very comfortable.
And I'm actually surprised
at how comfortable he looks
fighting in that southpaw stance.
[Mauro] It's so educated,
the jab going upstairs, downstairs,
so fast, so fluid.
The placement is impeccable.
[David] It's the fact he's not getting hit
with any shots.
And Cervantes is throwing
some good punches back,
but it's just not
it's a different sport he's dealing with.
[Mauro] This is the perfect range
for Harvey, mid-range.
He's landing at will.
Upstairs, downstairs,
mixing up the hooks with the right hands.
And, of course, a very educated jab.
There was a lead right uppercut,
immediately pivots out of the way.
Cervantes with that high guard,
but it's a leaky one
as Harvey splits the guard with the jab.
[Crystina] It's definitely stepping up
in the spotlight tonight.
It does not look like
his second professional bout.
He's being defensive,
although he gets caught
with the left hand there.
But I like what I'm seeing early.
He looks composed, David,
under this bright, big stage.
[David] He really does.
You'd expect a novice professional,
though he's had some amateur pedigree,
to be a bit more overawed,
and throw a lot more combinations.
But he's picking his punches.
[Mauro] The final minute
of the second round.
Harvey comes from humble beginnings
as a premature, undersized kid,
who faced health challenges and bullying.
And here he is,
bullying Cervantes in the second round.
And Jahmal Harvey appears

did I ever think
I'd be saying those words,
but it is happening

And right now, what's happening
is the blossoming career of Jahmal Harvey.
[Crystina] Cervantes has
to figure out a way
to get some sort of offense going.
He's being hesitant
to even let himself start
to get his engine going off the jab.
He's clamming up,
and he needs
to really start working his hands, David,
-because he has zero offense coming back.
-[Mauro] Oh!
[David] It sounds like
an easy thing to do,
to throw the jab,
but as soon as his hand leaves his face,
Harvey's countering him
very crisp and very hard,
which forces Cervantes to have his hands
in that defensive position.
[Mauro] And the uppercut's
becoming an instrumental part
of the arsenal,
but it all begins with that jab.
-Such a-- It's an Ivy League-educated jab.
-[David] It truly is.
And I like the way Harvey's coach
was telling him to go out there,
and have some fun, enjoy it.
[Mauro] It seems like
he's enjoying every single second.
And Cervantes now trying to reload,
going to the body.
Vying with the jab.
Oh, and it almost looked like
he threw the right uppercut
as a decoy to land
the left hand there by Harvey.
[David] That's exactly what he did.
He's trying things out,
he realizes he's got a cagey opponent.
So, he's practicing.
And as his coach said,
he's enjoying himself in there.
[Mauro] And Crystina,
he's doing a good job
of going to the body
with the jab, of course,
making that early investment,
trying to sap the energy
out of Cervantes.

the right hand I was looking for
for the follow behind that jab.
He shot about three of them in a row,

I'd like to see him also let go
with the right hand behind it.

and he is pitching a literal shutout

that clipped the jaw of Cervantes.

but setting that trap from southpaw,
wanting Cervantes to close the gap,
and then light him up
with that counter left.
[Crystina] And to be able
to perfectly place that left hand,
he's doing a great job, is Harvey,
getting his lead right foot
on the outside of Cervantes' left foot,
and that allows him to cut that distance
and land those perfect shots.
[Mauro] Oh, a chopping right hand
by Harvey.
Cervantes gets backed up
with that jab from southpaw.
And again, he continues
to vary his attack upstairs, downstairs,
steady like a metronome.

[Mauro] And he's a tennis player too
by the sounds of it.

And why not?
Under two minutes now left here

And for Cervantes,
what adjustments would you try
to make on the fly
to try to get something going?
[David] I'm not sure
what he could do here.
The more he brings his arms away
from defending his face,
the quicker he will be unconscious
by the looks of things.
Sadly for him,
he's fighting somebody
who's just superior in every department.
Maybe just go toe-to-toe,
and start swinging, and hope for the best.
[Mauro] I know the fans
would appreciate that.
By the way, through the fourth round,
and Jahmal Harvey continues
to use that educated jab.
Missing though there
with the right and left
as Cervantes ducked underneath,
but Cervantes not firing back.
[Crystina] I mean, when you've landed
almost a hundred more punches
than your opponent,
I think you're in pretty good shape.
-[Mauro] And it's only round four.
-[Crystina] Wow.
[Mauro] So, he's landed
over 25 punches around.
A minute left here in the fourth,
and Jahmal Harvey
strafing Kevin Cervantes.
High guard by Harvey.
Oh, but Cervantes able to get
the right hand through the guard,
and then the right hand to the body
by Cervantes.

he seems to have it all.

He's got the Roy Jones Jr. style,
the hands down,
but that's just setting a trap.
And he has the speed and reflexes
to set that trap.

And obviously, he does, because, you know
To become a World Amateur Champion
is not easy.
I was World Amateur silver medalist,
so I came second in the World Amateur
Championship. I know how hard it is.
It's probably harder
than the actual Olympics.
Now, Harvey, he seems to have
all of the things,
the speed, timing, the reflexes,
as you said.
It's so important,
particularly with that low left hand,
or low right hand,
depending on which position he's in.
It's imperative to have those reflexes.
[Mauro] Sterling defense on display,
Crystina, as well.
[Crystina] Yeah, and if that's
Roy Jones-esque with the hands down,
it's Terence Crawford-esque
the way he's able to switch seamlessly
between orthodox and southpaw.
I don't typically like to see
young fighters do that.
Usually there's a lapse somewhere,
mostly on defense,
but he seems to be flowing, Mauro,
back and forth seamlessly
from both stances.
[Mauro] And we know
how long boxing retirements last,
but if it is a retirement,
I do wanna congratulate Terence Crawford
on an all-time great career.
I called his fight with Errol Spence Jr.
It may have been one of the most
virtuosic performances I've called.
[Crystina] I've had
the pleasure of covering
almost his entire career as well,
and much respect to him going out on top.
Salute to Terence Crawford, for sure.

with more malevolence,

He needs guys who are coming at him,
strong guys like Cervantes to extend him,

He's gotta be careful there, getting
a little wild, getting off balance,

that could've very well been two victories

As Harvey continues to light up Cervantes

[Crystina] Well, you can tell he's
honed and groomed his chops
alongside those names that you mentioned
because of how fluid he looks
in this second pro fight.
I am thoroughly impressed
with the skill set
that he's bringing to the table tonight.
and the composure for the young,
23-year-old on this stage.
-I mean, it's just remarkable.
-[David] Who can ask him questions?
You know,
you put him in there with a journeyman,
they knock him out in one round.
You've got to get an undefeated fighter
with a 100% knockout record like--
[Mauro] Oh! Getting some chin
right uppercuts from Harvey,
who is competitive about everything,
be it sports, Connect Four,
and, yes, the chess club in high school.
So, you talk about IQ,
it's ring IQ and IQ period,
as he continues to try to, well,
decrease Cervantes's IQ
with some of these hard shots to the head.
[Crystina] He also has that in common
with Terence Crawford too,
probably the most competitive athlete
I've ever met.
Not probably. He is.
[Mauro] Midway through the final round
and Cervantes eating
a combination upstairs.
There's a jab to the body.
Harvey stuck to the game plan,
showcasing some fluid footwork
and able to land on the move.
[Crystina] And you could just tell
that this was a step up
in level of opposition for Cervantes
that he just wasn't ready for.
[David] I don't think
he'll ever be ready for this.
[Mauro] Yeah, his final minute here.
You're right.
Just that there's levels for a reason.
And despite being less experienced
as a pro,
Jahmal Harvey obviously set up for success
here in the 130-pound division.
And again,
he'll have to take on higher
and higher classes
and then, of course,
eventually become a contender.
But it appears to me
that he may be on the fast track.
[David] He sure is on a fast track.
I'm not sure what else he needs to learn
other than getting quality rounds
in the bank.
He's got six quality rounds here.
It's going to be very tough
finding opponents
to get in the ring with him.
[Mauro] The numbers back all of that up.
And he's backing up Cervantes
with this offense,
sending down on these shots.

It's not gonna be good.
Joshua's career will be over.

on a fighter who is a foot taller
and over 100 pounds heavier
than his original opponent.
And that, of course,
has required just a major shift
in Jake's preparation and in his mindset.

are finalizing a deal
for a heavyweight fight
after his exhibition with Gervonta Davis
was canceled.

Paul was primed
to enjoy a sizable advantage
of more than seven inches and 60 pounds.
I was training to fight the smaller guy.
I was working on speed,
coming down in weight.
But I saw the tricks
that all the little guys
were doing to me to be able to hit me.

Now, I'm taking all of that
and I'm the little guy

for all the wrong reasons in the rematch.
And I'm not surprised by the pace.

but how do you rate
what you're seeing thus far, David?

had a massive right hook.
That's why it's been his signature punch.
But Anderson Silva, he's so awkward.

a bill with him four years ago,
where he fought Tito Ortiz,

Normally, women's title fights
are ten rounds of two minutes each,
but as demanded
by Alycia Baumgardner in this fight,
this one is gonna be fought
under the men's championship rules.
What does that mean?
It means 12 three-minute rounds,
which could see this fight
potentially go from 20 minutes of action
to 36 if it goes the distance.
So, it's a potential 80 percent increase.
It represents a push
for equal opportunities
and compensation in women's boxing,
which is so very important
to Alycia Baumgardner
that she surrendered one of her belts
to compete under these rules tonight.
What that tells me
is just how serious this is to Alycia.
There are other female fighters
who feel the same as well,
Claressa Shields, Amanda Serrano.
Do you think that two-minute rounds
are hindering equality in women's boxing?
[Laila] Not necessarily,
but I can definitely see
why women would wanna fight
three-minute rounds.
I did. You know, and during my era,
we were just trying to get basic respect.
You know, people were still wondering
why we were fighting.
So, if these ladies feel like
they wanna fight three-minute rounds

[Laila] Because it gives us
more time to get the job done, right?
It's the same reason that men fight.
Why wouldn't we do it?
If the men are fighting three,

So, we wanna be looked at equally.
Some of us feel
that we need to fight equally.

that three-minute rounds, Lennox,
does that make for better fights?
[Lennox] Still better fights.
You know, it gives you time to,
uh, get more punches in there.
It gives you more time to get, uh--
make sure that your opponent is fit
and a stamina race.
You know, if you're in better, uh,
shape than your opponent,
then you're gonna do better.
So, it forces you to get
into better shape as a girl.
[Kate] The WBC
obviously feels strongly enough
about women
not fighting three-minute rounds,
that they were willing
to allow their champion
to give up the belt
to lose the undisputed status.
Do you think that they will end up
on the wrong side of this debate, Andre?
Well, they missed out
on a great event tonight.
I love the stance that Baumgardner made.
Any time a fighter can have a vision
and have a belief for their career,
and they stand on it
no matter the consequences, I love it.
So, I appreciate that stance,
and, you know,
I think the ladies should have the option
to fight three minutes or two minutes.
Because when Katie Taylor
and Amanda Serrano
just fought their trilogy, remember,
that was a topic of discussion.
Serrano wanted three.
Katie Taylor said,
"Nah, I think two is enough."
So, I think the option should be there
for all the ladies.
What are most women doing in the gym?
Are they training
and sparring three-minute rounds anyway?
Are most women prepared
to fight three-minute rounds?
It changes athlete to athlete.
I sparred with the guys,
three-minute rounds.
And then of course, closer to the fight,
I would go to two,
because you wanna know
what it's gonna feel like.
But I think
it really just depends on the athlete.
We all train differently,
we eat it differently, all of that.
[Kate] What about the three-minute rounds?
Is that something that's gonna allow us
to see the gulf in class
between two fighters more readily, Lennox?
So, we all think very highly
of Alycia Baumgardner.
Will we see more of a gulf in class
between her and Leila Beaudoin
-because of the three-minute rounds?
-Yeah. Sure.
Because you see their tactics,
you know, what they're planning.
It's, you know--
Most people go in there with a plan A.
Now, they have a chance
to put the plan B into place.
[Kate] Alycia Baumgardner, as I said,
we all think very highly of her.
She just does everything well,
technically very sound.
She moves well, good movement.
What do you wanna see
from her tonight, Andre?
[Andre] She had a--
Her last fight was a good fight,
but she-- sometimes,
Baumgardner gets into this rhythm
of doing the same things fifth,
sixth, seventh round.
I wanna see some variation from her.
If the big right hand, which is one
of her favorite punches, doesn't land,
I wanna see her do
some other things to get the job done
or try to get in the house
another type of way.
Don't just try
to kick the front door down.
You might have to go check a side door,
back door, or even a window.
That's the experience
that I want to see come out tonight.
I enjoy Alycia Baumgardner.
One thing about it, though,
if you're gonna carry yourself
the way that she does,
-you better go out there and back it up.
-Absolutely. I think she will.
I would love to see more head movement.
I don't want to see her get as hit
as much as she does sometimes.

The disparity in experience level

And in this fight, even though
now we're in the first of three rounds,
the champion, Baumgardner, three of 30,

So again, things

What's he gonna do against a 36-year-old?
Anthony Joshua still very much,
despite coming off of knockout loss,
one of the most dangerous punchers
in the division.
And here, let's focus again
on this championship fight.
In terms
of the way Baumgardner's starting,
Crystina, what do you like
and what do you want to see more of
at this point?
[Crystina] I like that
she's taking her time, three-minute rounds
like we talked about
for the first time, 12 rounds.
But I would like her
to get a little busier
because I think Beaudoin
is initiating more of the activity here,
especially doubling
and tripling up on that jab.
I'd like to see Alycia
be first a few times.
But credit to Beaudoin for staying busy.
[David] Maybe some sharp counters.
Maybe some sharp counters
will come in nicely.
She's stepping back out of range.
But I like how they're both easing
into the fight,
usually with the female fighters,
it's a rush from the first round
because there's two minutes
for that round,
but it allows the action
to really start building nicely.
[Crystina] But I think that's also kind of
the knock on why the proponent,
the people that don't like
three-minute rounds, they say,
we like how quickly they got to get
to work in the two-minute rounds.
We like that pace.
And this extra round is just going
to slow out the action.
So I know it depends.
Each fighter has their preference,
but a lot of viewers like the speed
of those two-minute rounds.
[Mauro] Mauro Ranallo

David, you have the championship pedigree,

and we saw it in her last fight
at Madison Square Garden
where she gave herself a B
and it wasn't the most--
It was a bit of a sluggish performance
by Baumgardner, and again,
she is the champion.
She is dictating the terms
but I think we've--
I think everyone would like
to see an uptick in offense here
over three-minute rounds.
[David] I think because
she's counting so crisply.
[David] Leila isn't able to throw
the volume of punches she wants to.
It's all good and well said,
I'm going to put the pressure on,
but when you do throw a jab
and get counted hard,
you start thinking about it twice.
[Mauro] It's interesting, though,
they're averaging the same amount
of punches thrown in three minutes
than they were in two minutes.
-[David] Yeah, very interesting.
-[Mauro] Final minute of the third.
[Crystina] Oh, nice jab.
[Mauro] There's a right jab
and the right hand by Beaudoin,
but countered by the champion.

that I was talking about was the weapon
for Baumgardner that looks like
starting to cause some swelling,

really do help,
having that additional minute around
really does allow you
to pick your punches
and break people down.
[Crystina] Right now, I feel like Beaudoin
is thinking a little bit too much.
She's not allowing her punches
to be fluid.
I think she's having a hard time trying
to get inside that jab
of Baumgardner,
and that right hand has been a problem.
So I think that she just needs
to settle in a little bit more,
get back to maybe what she was doing
a little more in the first round.
Usually, we see a fighter loosen up
as the fight goes on,
but I feel like she's just
a little more tense right now

that Baumgardner was able to land
to cause that knockdown.
It was compact. It was tight.
Beaudoin did not see
that shot coming whatsoever.

What a beautifully placed shot.
And for Leila Beaudoin,
I do not like what I saw in that corner.
If I'm her trainer,
I'm taking a serious look
at my fighter right now.

before boxing.

-And her life also shaped by tragedy.

Her boyfriend committed suicide,
a trauma that she still battles.

Leila Beaudoin is contemplating
or regretting, if you will,

some of that mental toughness,
trying to climb up, you know,
out of this hole against Baumgardner.
So, I give her credit for that as well.
She's definitely shown
some mental toughness,
even though you can tell
that she's been outclassed
so far tonight.

just pawing the jab just using it
and there's Beaudoin parrying it trying
to catch and sh**t.

I mean, maybe not as many
as she would have liked to,
but she definitely
has the advantage there.

that's kind of the trade-off
with those three-minute rounds, right?
In that if you were watching the prelims,
you would have seen a couple
of wars in those all-female fights.
This one, Alycia had the time
to take her time
and just ride it out
and find the shots that she wanted to.
Give the kind of performance
that is deserving
of a technical fighter like that.
The crowd doesn't enjoy it
as much, though, Leila.
-Is that the trade-off?

And I think that this is the first time
that she fought those three-minute rounds.
So I don't wanna always say
that's always gonna be the trade-off.
It's just that we're just starting

So we've seen men

But you have to have that confidence
because you never wanna run out of gas.
I saw that Leila seemed to me to start
kind of losing the mental edge.
She was doing a lot
of meditation and breath work
and all of these things,
which lets me know
that maybe she's a little weak
in that area.
You know what I'm saying?
But it is what it is.
They both put on a great show.
They should both be proud of themselves.
Leila's not gonna be happy.

But Alycia
should be very proud of herself.
I know she would have loved
to get the knockout,

However long this fight goes,

And he went from looking down

And he's content to just continue
to utilize movement,
not worried about throwing anything

He wants to just see

As the seconds tick away,
you know, fans will become
more and more frustrated.
Especially those who thought
Joshua would put away Jake Paul
in a hurry.

None of us expected this fight
to go long, despite the fact
that most of us thought Jake Paul
would utilize the ring and move it,

anything of consequence yet,
-as we are now through two rounds.

of people think he'd make it,

There are many people that didn't think
this fight should even be sanctioned.
They feel that it's a black eye to boxing
of sorts, the purists especially.
And the clock continues to tick.
The longer this goes,
does it become embarrassing
for Anthony Joshua?
[David] Anthony Joshua, if you'd have said
he wouldn't have been able to get to grips
with him in the first two rounds,
he said in an interview earlier,
a couple of days ago,
that if he doesn't knock him out
in the first round,
he will consider it a loss.
Crazy though, this is the type of fight
that he hasn't had before
where he has to get a knockout.
And he's trying a little too hard.
I was worried for Anthony Joshua
coming into this fight.
It's a hell of a different type
of pressure to put on yourself.
it's not about winning.
People assume he's gonna win.
It's how he wins and how easy he wins.
At the moment, he's throwing punches
but he's missing,
he's not looking as slick
as he would like to do.
[Mauro] They're not exactly
throwing punches
It's incredible in that last round
Jake Paul was one of six,
Joshua just four of 26.
So, not at all what fans expected.

almost in our direction.
He's getting a little frustrated.
Every time he gets close,
you can tell the Jake Paul game plan
is to grab him, hold, and clinch.

There is absolutely next to no offense
going on in this fight.
And I know boxing fans find it offensive.

right in front of him.

which to me is a good punch for him
if he could start to get that going

tries to land a right of his own,
but the left hooks kept coming.
It looked like a misstep there,
and you saw the grimace
on Jake Paul as he stepped back
with that right leg,
something to keep an eye
on if this fight continues
to inch forward.
And inching forward closer and closer
is Anthony Joshua to closing the distance.
You can tell Jake Paul is not
taking those punches very well.
But that punch right there
from Jake Paul was the cleanest shot
he's landed tonight.
And it's because Anthony Joshua's
getting comfortable in there.
-[Mauro] It didn't even bother Joshua.
-[Crystina] Not one bit.
[Mauro] Jake Paul, a cruiserweight,
fighting his second fight
at heavyweight against
a bona fide knockout artist.
And Anthony Joshua
seeking his 26th knockout as a pro.
But Jake Paul coming forward.
He's off balance. He's tired.
He's breathing heavily.
And he's cornered again by Joshua.
Down, Paul goes again,
following the right hand,
the third knockdown of the fight.
Seven, eight.
You wanna go, baby?
I don't think you wanna continue that.
Paul wants to continue.
But it's all Anthony Joshua,
three knockdowns.
And Paul needs
to get off the ropes, David.
[David] He does,
that's not the place for him.
[Mauro] Man, he's tired.
[David] He's moving them feet
like he was in the early rounds.
[Mauro] Right uppercut,
it's amazing that Paul is still standing,
taking the right uppercut.
He knows he's been hurt,
his hands are down,
it's just incredible.
[David] And even if he does land
his best shot at the moment,
not that much is going to happen.
[Mauro] And it almost
there's a left hook.
-[Crystina] Oh, my goodness!
-[Mauro] And down goes Paul.
Six, seven, eight, nine.
[Mauro] Mama Mia!
It may have taken a little bit longer
than everyone expected,
but AJ gets the KO in round six.
And yet, Jake Paul back on his feet,
being consoled by his brother, Logan Paul.
And you know what?
I guess the best thing
that can be said for Jake Paul
is that he wasn't seriously hurt.
[David] He wasn't,
and he was actually competitive in there.
You know, through his own punches,
landed a few shots.
Obviously, that is the difference between
a world-class professional
former world champion.
[Mauro] So at the end of the day,
despite it taking a little bit longer,
what everyone expected came true.
-Sometimes that happens in life.
-[David] The cream does rise to the top.
It was frustrating
for Anthony Joshua there
throughout those early rounds.
He had a good game plan
in terms of using lateral movement,
ducking and diving and slipping.
But with those ten-ounce gloves
on what can be done
in sparring with 16, 18-ounce gloves
is very difficult to do
in the professional ring
with those little gloves,
as Anthony Joshua is a very,
very heavy hitter.
And those body shots
that he landed obviously paid their toll.
[Crystina] You could tell he was starting
to get more in a rhythm
was AJ in round five and round six.
He shook off the rust.
And once Jake Paul decided
that he was going to stand there
and throw some punches,
that was kind
of the beginning of the end for me.
[Mauro] One of the biggest paydays
of Anthony Joshua's career.
And in the end, he did give him
the realest of reality checks,
knocking him down a total of four times
after being knocked down four times
in a knockout loss
to Daniel Dubois
the last time he was in the ring.
But again
can't sell the knockout that much
because again, expected.
And at the end of the day,
what have we proven here?
[David] We haven't proven anything
to be honest.
What we've proven is, you know,
that Jake Paul could manage
to get to round five
or round six with Anthony Joshua,
who would have thought he'd have
been able to do that?
[Mauro] Was Joshua playing with his food?
[David] No, Anthony Joshua
was going for the knockout
from the first round. He got frustrated.
He was actually playing
into Jake Paul's game plan.
But sooner or later, you know,
the gap closes and those punches
that are just whistling over
your head start connecting.
And you can only move your feet that much.
[Crystina] And here was
the beginning of the end
when Jake Paul decided to finally open up
and throw some more punches.
The class, like you said, David Haye,
started to rise to the top.
It was an attempt at a takedown,
but Anthony Joshua
kind of set up the knockdown
perfectly with what? The jab.
The most basic punch in all of boxing.
Misses on the left uppercut,
shoots the right,
and you get a little reaction there
out of Jake Paul,
but when he gets caught
with his hands down
and his chin served on the platter
for that right hand right there.
And look at Jake Paul's face.
He knew it right away. He said, whoo!
I know that's Ric Flair,
and he came out not to Ric Flair.
He came out to Hulk Hogan,
but he's up on his feet like, Mauro,
you said he took his hardest punch.
He did get back up.
It just wasn't before the count.
[Mauro] And it was game over
for Jake Paul.

if he gets hit with,

and that's exactly what happened.

How would you describe that fight?
Well, first of all, I want to give love
to the crowd, everyone that came out.
I really do appreciate
everyone in this venue.
Now you asked me a question.
Look, it wasn't the best performance.
It wasn't the best.
The end goal was to get Jake Paul,
pin him down, and hurt him.
That has been the request leading up,
and that was on my mind.
It took a bit longer than expected.
But the right-hand family
found a destination.
Now, Jake Paul,
he's done really well tonight.
I want to give him his props.
He got up time and time again.
It was difficult in there for him,
but he kept on trying to find a way.
It takes a real man to do that.

this guy a systematic breakdown
I know what type of fighter he is.
And I said, I'm going to take his soul.
And I said, I'm going to see it
leaving his body round after round.
And when the time comes, some people
are just there to get knocked out.
And I said it,
and that's exactly what happened.
See, fighting is not just
about the physicality.
I know you see someone that looks
like a Greek god
standing in front of you right now.
But I understand the psychology
of fighting as well.
And I understood what Jake
was going through.
And I just took my time, as I said,
15 months out of the ring.
And I got the job done
within the time limit of eight rounds.
Did he hurt you at any point?
It looked like he connected
a couple times at least.
Did he hurt you
and were you surprised by that?
I refuse to get hurt.
I refuse to acknowledge getting hurt.
I refuse to be beat.
This is boxing. I'm going to get hit.
And when I get hit,
I'm going to counter punch.
Every time he hit me,
I stood there and I tried
to hit him straight back.
There was no hurt in me.
It's just what we do.
In basketball, they score points,
the other team score points.
In boxing, I hit them, they hit me.
At the end of the day, there's going to be
one winner and it was me tonight.
Thank God. But as I said, Jake, well done.

for about 50 years or so,
and then once it's done, it's done.
I'm just doing what I enjoy to do.
This is what I decided to do.
While some of my friends decided
to do a little bit of hustling,
some of my friends decided
to go down the college route,
I decided to go down
the school of boxing.
This is what I do.
I'm gonna do it until I can't no more.
And whatever happens on this journey,
all we can do is give our best.
And that's what I'm gonna keep doing
until I can't throw another punch.

and I just did my personal best.

he started landing
some really clean punches.
That's probably the shot right there
when you get that reaction,
that was the Now we'll call it
"Jawbreaker" if you will,
And, you know, I give Jake Paul credit
for stepping in there in the first place,
going six rounds
All those people that say,
"If this doesn't get past the first round,
it's a loss for Anthony Joshua."
Well, he did what he was supposed to do.
We also give a little due credit now
to Jake Paul.
[David] You have to,
and I said that at the beginning,
and before the fight started,
it's very difficult to knock someone out
who's not trying to engage in battle.
When someone's trying to move around,
you k*ll the clock,
and try to slow things down,
it's very difficult you've got
to wait until they get tired.
And as, uh, Jake said, the only reason
he believes he got caught was
because his cardio wasn't good--
It wasn't his cardio,
it was a fact, he had a big man in front
of him, draining the energy out of him.
[Cynthia] As he's making some
new fans here, I'm sure, in the U.S.
in his second fight here.
Hopefully, he'll be back here.
[David] I say he was only as good
as your last fight,
but his last fight was
a six-round stoppage of Jake Paul
versus a six-round stoppage
of a big end stop by Daniel Dubois,

So good to have you still with us.
I'm Kate Scott with three of the best
that boxing has ever produced.
Hall of Famers, all of them.
Laila Ali, Andre Ward, Lennox Lewis.
So, that was something, wasn't it?
Former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion
of the World.
Tell me your thoughts, Lennox.
[Lennox] Well, I thought, you know,
what Anthony said, that he was out
for 15 months, it showed.
And he definitely needed a couple
of rounds to warm up
and get used to the ring again
before he threw those punches.
And, you know, he did what he had to do.
He had a guy in front of him
that was running around the ring
and he had to catch up with him.
And once he caught up with him,
because it really came down
to who was in better shape,
and Jake Paul wasn't
in good shape for this fight,
especially for a big heavyweight
like that.
So after a couple rounds,
it got to him, and it showed, and,
you know, basically, he was just
sitting there waiting to get hit.
-[Kate] Andre?
-[Andre] Yeah, I liked the fight.
It was a fun fight.
I respect Jake Paul for taking it.
You know, think
about the neighborhood
that I grew up in where it's like
It's not if you get beat,
but did you fight?
-[Kate] Okay.
-[Andre] Right.
Then you get respect if you fought.
He beat you, but did you fight?
I respect the performance of Jake Paul.
Lennox is right.
What you saw
was a fighter who started late
and didn't know what
to do against a taller guy
with long arms in certain spots.
That conditioning that Jake Paul needed,
that comes from the crib.
a young kid who builds conditioning
over years he's not going to get that
in a 12-week training camp
so when he got tired he panicked
and he started falling,
and that's just a sign of fatigue.
So he helped Joshua out a little bit
because he was having some decent
success early on,
but you got to give Joshua
just a little bit of grace too
because he has been off and Jake Paul
is good enough to make things interesting
-for a little while and he did that.
-[Kate] I mean,
Anthony Joshua holds his hand up, says,
"Listen, it wasn't my best performance."
I think he was seeing the reaction
to the knockdown there
from the team ringside.
So Anthony Joshua says,
"Listen, it wasn't the best I've ever been
in the ring."
What would you have liked
to have seen him do more of?
What was missing?
[Laila] Well, uh, as we said
before the fight started,
we really wanted him to come out there,
dominate, use his jab,
set up the right hand and he pretty much,
you know, got there eventually
but, you know, he hasn't been in the ring
for 15 months,
Jake Paul was running around the ring.
I would like to see Anthony Joshua go back
and work on cutting off the ring
a little more instead of, you know,
chasing him around the ring.
That's what I would like to have seen.
But, you know, what's good is
that the fans got to see a fun fight.
You know what I mean?
A lot of times people are like,
"Oh, stop it in the first round." Right?
But they got to see it play out
and it ended, you know,
in a way that most people thought
was going to end anyway, right? Knockout.
[Kate] Yeah, that's true.
And that's what, kind of
like there have been people turning out
to see Jake Paul get knocked out
for some time now.
We thought it would happen
against Tyron Woodley. It didn't.
We thought it would happen
against Mike Tyson. It didn't.
Jake Paul showed a lot of heart in there.
He endured that fifth round.
He took some big shots.
Where does he belong in the boxing world?
-Lennox, help us understand this.
-[Lennox] Who? Jake Paul?
[Kate] Yes.
[Lennox] I guess doing the same thing
he's been doing, you know,
find a celebrity and box him.
[laughs] You know, and I think
the public enjoys that type of thing.
But when he gets up
against a real fighter,
you can see what can really happen.
You know, he's a smart guy,
so he can always stay current.
And, you know, what he was saying
after the fight was great.
You know, he's having fun.
And we can see him having
the fun out there.
[Kate] He says he wants
a world title, though.
Does this fight do anything
to position him in line for that, Andre?
-I know the answer. [laughs]
-[Andre laughs]
[Kate] What-- We're going
to show you the punch stats for the fight
in just a second so we'll jump
into that in just a minute.
I guess with Anthony Joshua, one
of the questions that people are wondering
about him were kind of wondering,
where is his career going?
Can he be a world champion again?
Here you can see, uh,
the final punch stats.
Listen, Anthony Joshua threw a lot more,
landed a lot more,
but like you say there's difference
in terms of the levels, Andre,
and this is kind of what we expected.
[Andre] Yeah,
this is what we expected, you know,
Joshua's been doing this for a very,
very long time.
Like I said, Jake Paul is a COVID baby
in terms of his birth
into professional boxing.
2020 is when he started.
You shouldn't have much success
against a guy that's been around
like Joshua has, gold medalist.
And you said,
what is his place in the sport?
He's a disruptor, like you said early on,
and he's an influencer who's
found a lane to make money,
to bring his fan base over,
to get casual fans interested,
and that just is what it is.
And it's a guy that every now
and again will take a risk.
Like he did tonight,
he's not afraid to lose.
He got knocked out.
He said, man,
I'm playing with house money.
It's all good. I'm not tripping.
That's just who he is.
He's come in and had his impact.
No, he's not a great all time.
We're not going to have that discussion.
But he's a guy who has disrupted the game
enough to get attention, to make money,
and to have other fighters
who actually want to fight him.
[Kate] Lennox, the Tyson Fury fight,
Anthony Joshua mentioned it
in the ring.
It's a generational showdown.
The UK wants to see it.
Boxing wants to see that fight.
[Lennox] Yeah, they want to see it because
that's the fight that they're waiting for.
And, you know,
both of them are talking about it.
The fight's been signed.
So that's what we're waiting for next.
