marking something important that has happened.

Or smaller things, like winning a staring contest.

And people like to celebrate special events

with sweet treats.

This is a Word Mystery.

so I was planning to put a bunch on this one.

That's when Artist Clay came in and ordered a single cupcake.

Then Firefighter Ember arrived.

She said my celebration cake looked amazing.

But Artist Clay suggested

it would look better with cake sparklers.

I thought that was a sweet idea, so ran off to get some.

But when I got back, Firefighter Ember,

Artist Clay, and the cake were gone!

Sure. The last place I saw my celebration cake

was here on the counter.

[Gabby] I don't see any clues.

-What's the calendar for? -[Graham] To keep track

of all the special days in Wordsville.

[Gabby] We know what happened.

Someone stole Baker Graham's celebration cake,

and now we can't celebrate anything in Wordsville.

We know where it happened: the Bakery.

And it happened when

Baker Graham left to get cake sparklers.

[Sly] Our suspects are Firefighter Ember

and Artist Clay. Now we need to figure out

who did it, how, and why. Piece of cake.

This case might not be that simple.

We'll have to call our first suspect.

[Ember sighs]

I was about to ask Baker Graham

for a cookie when he took off to get cake sparklers.

I didn't know how long he'd take,

so I left the Bakery and came back here.

So I'm gonna go.

Firefighter Ember wanted to celebrate a job well done.

But Baker Graham left before she could get a cookie.

It was so big, it was hard to miss.

But I suggested some cake sparklers

to make it truly shine.

I took my cupcake and left.

[Gabby] Hmm. Firefighter Ember wanted to celebrate

her th washing of her fire truck with a cookie,

but Baker Graham left before she got it.

Maybe she took the celebration cake so she could celebrate.

Maybe. Artist Clay did get a treat from the Bakery.

A cupcake. He even put a candle on it.

Which is weird, 'cause people put candles on things

for special events.

But he said he had nothing to celebrate.

That's the award the whole town votes on once a year.

"well-known, successful, and admired."

And Singer Melody is well-known, successful,

and admired all over the world.

I used to be those things.

But now that the word "distinguished" is gone,

I'm an unknown, unsuccessful, unadmired singer.

That's why my world tour got canceled.

Don't worry, Singer Melody. We'll solve this case, and fast.

when Reporter Read came by with Scientist Cosmo.

so Reporter Read wanted a photo of us together.

While she set up her camera, Scientist Cosmo and I chatted.

Then Reporter Read's camera needed batteries, so they left.

And somehow, some way, poof!

The Distinguished Wordsvillian Award disappeared.

We got this, Singer Melody.

Someone took the Distinguished Wordsvillian Award.

That means the distinguished people of Wordsville

are now unknown, unsuccessful, and unadmired.

We know where it happened: the recording studio.

And it happened when Reporter Read

and Scientist Cosmo were there to take a photo.

[Sly] They're our suspects.

We need to figure out who did it, how, and why.

-What are the clues? -[Sly] I'm zooming in.

The camera is probably Reporter Read's,

and I bet I know who made those high-tech headphones.

Word Detectives, hi!

Scientist Cosmo, we have some Word Mystery questions for you.

Wait! This is my latest invention.

It's a homework helper machine. Watch!

[machine whirring]

-Oh, no! -[machine screeching]

Is that how it's supposed to work?

Not even a little bit.

This must be related to our case.

The word "distinguished" is missing.

And being successful is part of being distinguished.

So your inventions can't be successful until we get it back.

I do appreciate learning from failure,

but this machine used to work perfectly, and now it doesn't.

-That's annoying. -Was it also annoying to lose

Those headphones you're wearing look familiar.

There was a pair like them at the recording studio.

[Cosmo] I figured Singer Melody could use some of

the super noise-canceling headphones I invented.

Too much? Isn't it awesome to be well-known and admired?

Can be. But when I won

the Distinguished Wordsvillian Award, people kept bothering me

for interviews, photos, speeches.

I had no time to devote to what made me distinguished

-in the first place: science! -[call ends]

And so was my gloomy painting.

When I got to the studio, Artist Clay was finishing up

his gloomy painting.

It did not make me feel better.

so he left to find one as Baker Graham came in.

He wouldn't even look at it.

-Pretty mysterious, right? -It is.

We saw a table tennis paddle in the studio.

-Is it yours? -Yep.

But I have lots, I'll get that one after practice.

Athlete Glory saw the gloomy painting,

but she wanted to see more cheerful art instead.

She also said that Baker Graham wouldn't even look

at the painting.

Yes, I baked a new type of cake,

but I can't taste it because of my cold.

I wanted Artist Clay to be my taste-tester.

He's always so grumpy and gloomy,

so if my cake could make him happy,

it could work for my bakery, too.

But when I got there, he left me with Athlete Glory,

who was staring at this total bummer of a painting.

Artist Clay's gloomy painting?

I don't like sad stuff.

I didn't want to look at the painting,

or think about the painting,

or touch the painting.

So I found a place to leave the cake,

and came back to my bright, cheery bakery.

[kettle whistles] Oh, that kettle is for my herbal tea.

made me so, so sad.

So, I took it.

But if you were happy all the time,

it wouldn't feel as special when good things happen.

Oh yeah, like when I win my games.

Right, but if solving this case doesn't make me happy

because I already am happy,
