Xavier/Brad: Uaaah! Yadina: WE DO!

Xavier/Brad: Ugh! Uaaaah!

Brad: Whoa. Thanks, you two!

Xavier: Anytime!

Today we're meeting another amazing duo:

Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Yadina: Together, they created one of the

first ever superheroes.

Xavier: [action voice] Faster than a speeding b*llet!

Yadina: [action voice] More powerful than a locomotive!

Brad: [action voice] Able to leap tall buildings

in a single bound!

Xavier/Yadina/Brad: SUPERMAN!

Brad: I can't wait to meet

the creators of Superman!

Quick! Let's start the show!

[flying grunts]

Brad: [off screen] He's ultra- cool with ultra gadgets...

JET PACK!

LASER GLOVES!

HELICOPTER HAT!

And...

PERSONAL TOASTER!

Yadina: Just think, Dr. Zoom -

toasted cheese and grape jelly

sandwiches whenever he wants!

Older Boy: Ha! How is THAT a superhero?

It's just YOU, in silly pajamas.

Ha! Brad: Uah!

Older Boy: So not Superman. Brad: Uh? [gasps]

[sad groan] Xavier: Hey!

Yadina: Well, that's not very nice!

Xavier: Bradman is not silly!

Brad: [sad] But...

...what if he's right?

What if my ideas aren't good?

Yadina: Huh?...No way!

Xavier: Sure they are, Brad.

You have a GREAT imagination.

Brad: [sighs]

I probably won't EVER make anything as good as Superman...

[sad sigh]

Maybe I should just give up.

♪ [sad music]

Yadina: We can't let Brad give up.

He LOVES making comics.

Xavier: We have to save future Bradman stories.

[gasps] And that means...

Xavier/Yadina: To the SECRET MUSEUM!

Brad: Ah!

Xavier: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Woohoo!

Yadina: Or how far back in time we'll go?

Brad: I'm gonna find some stairs...Waaaah!

Yadina: Look out below! Xavier: Woohoo!

Xavier/Yadina: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blee blarp]

Brad: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blurp]

Brad: Upf!

Berby: [blooop] Xavier: [humming]

We're getting something!

Yadina: It looks like...

Brad: Maybe that's what I can do

instead of making comic books.

Hang wallpaper.

[computer whirring]

Xavier: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

That's who we're going to meet!

Yadina: [off screen] In Ohio, in the year .

Brad: That's almost...

[gasps] years ago!

Yadina: I wonder how they can

help Brad's comic book?

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Ready for adventure?

Yadina: So ready!

Brad: So NOT ready!

[sighs]

Is ready-ish close enough?

Berby: [blurp]

[whirring]

[blee blarp, bloo bloop!]

Yadina: Here we go!

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on, Dr. Zoom!

Xavier: Woohoo! Brad: Whoaaa!

Berby: [blee blarp bloo bloop!]

Xavier: Berby says we're in Clevland, Ohio in .

Yadina: So many kids!

How are we gonna find Jerry and Joe?

Joe: Upf! Ah!

'Scuse me...

um, pardon me...

Woah!

Woaaa! Upf!

Brad: Uh! Oh, are you okay?

Joe: Ah!

Brad: Drawings...

Good drawings!

Joe: [chuckles] Thank you.

Yadina: Heeey, that kid drew these

on bits of wallpaper.

Like from the Secret Museum!

So, is he...?

[off screen] [panting]

Jerry: Yes! I got it!

[panting]

[bam] Brad: Uaaah!

Woaaa-aaa-aaah! Uff!

Berby: [whirring]

Xavier: That's Joe Shuster!

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: And Jerry Siegel!

Joe: [giggles] Jerry: [sighs]

Yadina: Thanks Berby.

Berby: [blurp]

Jerry: Oh! [to Joe] I think this is yours.

[gasps] You draw?

Joe: Yeah!

[gasps]

And you write stories?

Xavier: Are these two meeting for the first time?

Yadina: Hello!

Our friend Brad likes to draw and write stories, too.

For his own comic books.

Say hi, Brad!

Brad: Hi.

Jerry: You make your own comics?

Brad: Yea! Uh...

but, not everyone likes them.

Jerry: Hm!

Not everyone appreciates my stories, either.

Brad: [sad sigh]

Maybe we should all just...

give up.

Jerry's Cousin: [off screen] Hey, cousin! Jerry!

I see you've met my friend, Joe.

He's the artist I was telling you about.

Between your stories and his drawings,

you would make a super duo!

But I'm tellin ya, you should team up!

I believe in the power of

your imaginations! Bye!

Joe: Nice to meet you!

Jerry: Nice to meet you too!

♪

Yadina: Let's see if their ideas get published!

♪

[type writer clacking]

[ding]

Trio: [gasps]

Jerry: Uh--

Mh-mh.

All: [disappointed sigh]

Jerry/Joe: [excited gasp]

♪

[typewriter clacking]

[ding] Jerry: Yeah!

Joe: Ha!

♪

Trio: [excited gasp]

♪

Jerry: [disappointed groan]

Mh-mh!

All: [disappointed sighs]

♪

Jerry: Aha! Joe: [excited gasp]

♪

♪ [typewriter clacking]

Jerry: [thinking] Hm--

♪

Yadina: I can't believe all their ideas

keep getting rejected.

♪

Jerry: [gasps] THAT'S IT!

He's from another planet! Joe: [startled] Wh-What?

Jerry: Sent to Earth to help people!

Joe: Huh?

Who's from a what now?

Jerry: But, he looks human! Just like us!

To most, he's ordinary, gentle,

and soft-spoken.

No one knows that he has

extraordinary powers!

'Cause he wears suits and glasses.

And underneath the suit,

he's actually wearing a crime fighting costume,

with a cape, that flaps in the breeze.

Joe: Great idea!

So when he zooms around, it will look like he's flying!

Jerry: He'll be a hero, but one who stands for kindness--

Joe: --and helping one another!

Jerry: Let's have a look.

Brad: [gasps] That's SUPERMAN!!!

Joe: Exactly! That's what the 'S' stood for.

But... uhm-

How did YOU know?

Brad: [gasps]

Well, um--he, looks like a super...

...man? [innocent giggle]

Jerry: I can't wait to create stories for him!

Joe: Stories that will give kids like us

something to believe in.

Jerry: From now on,

whenever we feel like our ideas don't matter,

just remember:

believe in the power of your imagination!

Brad: THIS is how Superman was created!

By two teenagers,

using the power of their imaginations!

Maybe I can do that, too.

Xavier: Totally, Brad! Yadina: We believe in you.

Brad: Thanks.

Jerry? Joe?

If you'll excuse us, I've got some work to do.

Time for Ultra Bradman to meet the world!

Joe: Bye, bye! Jerry: See ya!

Brad: Berby, let's go home!

Berby: [blee blar bloop]

Brad: He's mild-mannered by day

AND by night.

And when he puts on his glasses,

he uses the power of his imagination

to change the world!

No need to fear,

Brad is here!

Xavier: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created Superman

almost years ago!

Yadina: And he's still the most popular

superhero today!

Brad: But underneath his fancy costume,

and super-cool cape,

he's just like all of us.

Ordinary people, who want to do

the extraordinary!

Xavier: Thanks for joining our awesome adventure

Yadina: Who used to be kids, just like you and me.

Brad: So kids like you can change the world!

Yadina: Today we're meeting an artist

who made amazing sculptures.

Edmonia Lewis!

Xavier: Edmonia was born in the year ,

and made incredible art

that honored Black and Ojibwe people - like her.

Berby: [blee bleep]

[through clenched teeth] Brad: I can't wait to meet her.

Berby: [laughs]

Brad: Um, can we stop being statues now?

Berby: [laughs]

Yadina: Yeah. We already stopped, Brad.

Brad: Phew!

[grunts] [pedestals crashing] Yadina: [gasps]

Xavier: Whooooaaa!

Whooooaaa!

[focused] Hmm...?

Hmm-

Well--no! [frustrated groan]

Yadina: Whatcha doin' Xavier?

Xavier: I'm trying to make Mom a sculpture for her birthday.

I want to make something special

but...I can't decide what.

[frustrated sigh]

Yadina: Hmmm...

[gasps] How about a cat? Mom likes cats.

...I think.

Brad: [gasp] You could make her a butterfly. Or a rainbow!

[gasp] Or butterflies

that are gently touching

in the shape of a rainbow!

Xavier: Ughh!

[splat]

Yadina: [thinking] Hmmm.

[gasps] I've got it!

Xavier: You know what I should make?

Yadina: Even better!

I know where we can go to get help figuring it out!

Brad: [gasps] W-w-wait!

Cats are great!

Everyone loves cats!

Even me, and I'm allergic.

Xavier/Yadina: Hmmm!

Xavier: Yadina's right!

Xavier/Yadina: To the Secret Museum!

Brad: [frustrated sigh]

Heeey, wait for me!

Xavier: Are you ready?

Brad: Here we go!

Xavier: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Yadina: And where we'll go?

Brad: And wh- [gasps]

Hey, wait up!

Yadina: Look out below! Xavier: Woo-hoo!

Xavier/Yadina: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blee blarp]

Brad: Hi, Berby!

Upf!

Xavier: ♪ [humming]

We're getting something!

Yadina: Oo-oh look, Xavier!

I bet Mom would like a sculpture like that.

Xavier: Hmm, I wonder who made it?

[computer whirring]

Brad: Edmonia Lewis.

That's who we're going to meet!

Yadina: At Niagara Falls, in .

Brad: But, that's...

over years ago!

Xavier: Do you think Edmonia Lewis can help me

make something Mom will love?

Yadina: There's only one way to find out...

Xavier: Ready for adventure?

Yadina: Ready!

Brad: Uhm-- on second thought,

I think your Mom will love

all the things you already made!

[sighs] Okay...ready.

Berby: [burrs]

Yadina: Here we go!

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on Dr. Zoom!

Xavier: Woo-hoo!

Brad: Wooaahh!

Berby: [blee blee blar bloop!]

[zap]

Xavier: So this is Niagara Falls. Huh.

Why do you think they call it that?

Yadina: Could be all the falling water.

Xavier: Woooaaah!

Edmonia Lewis: [off screen] Come and see what's for sale!

One-of-a-kind baskets!

Handmade pin cushions!

Super comfy moccasins!

All made by me and my family, with love and care.

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: There's Edmonia Lewis!

Xavier: And she's selling crafts.

Thanks Berby! Berby: [blee blarp]

Yadina: Hi!

Edmonia Lewis: Oh! Hello.

Would you like to see a handmade basket?

Or pin cushion?

These moccasins are very cozy!

I made them myself. [giggles]

Xavier: Woah!

I want to make something, too!

For my mom's birthday.

But, I don't know what.

How'd you decide to make these?

Edmonia: Well, these crafts are part of my heritage.

Heritage is something

handed down to you by your family,

like your culture and traditions.

Yadina: Like how our grandma taught us to make empanadas?

Xavier: Or how our great great grandparents built a museum

and passed it down to us?

Edmonia: Exactly!

My mom's family is Ojibwe,

an Indigenous Nation in this area.

So this is all traditional Ojibwe art

that my aunt taught me to make.

And I love it, because,

I'm proud to make art that represents me!

Oh! Gotta go.

Xavier: So maybe this is what I should make

Mom for her birthday!

Brad: Clay moccasins?

[clank-clank-shatter]

Not so cozy.

Xavier: [groan] You're right!

I STILL have no idea what to make her!

Berby: [blee blarp]

Yadina: Sounds like Berby has an idea!

Brad: [sighs]

[zap]

Uaaaaah!

Where are we?

Berby: [blee blee blar blarp]

Xavier: Berby says we're in Italy, years later!

Edmonia: [off screen] Hello again!

Yadina: Hey, nice basket! Did you make it?

Edmonia: No, not this one.

But I am still an artist.

I make sculptures now.

Which means I mold or carve different materials

into the shape of objects or people.

Brad: Not sure I get it.

Edmonia: It would be easier if I show you.

This is where I make my art.

Xavier/Yadina/Brad: [Oooh's and aaah's]

Edmonia: I like to sculpt Black and Indigenous people,

because I'm proud to make art that represents me!

I'm especially excited about my next one.

This piece honours an important moment

for Black people in America,

when laws were changed,

making it legal for Black people

to live freely, get married,

and have their own families.

Xavier: [hushed] That's the artifact from the Secret Museum!

It's really good, Edmonia.

Edmonia: Thank you!

It's meaningful for me because my dad was Black and so am I.

Hmm...though,

the sculpture isn't quite right yet.

Hmm-

The feet look too wide, I think.

Brad: [nods] Feet are hard!

[grunts] And kind of funny looking,

when you stare at them for awhile.

[sniff-sniff]

Weird!

Edmonia: Hm.. there.

I'm going to carve that sculpture,

out of THIS marble.

Yadina: All by yourself?!

Edmonia: Mhmm! Many sculptors have help

from a team of stone workers,

but I make all my sculptures by myself.

Now, time to get to work!

Edmonia: [giggles]

♪ [gentle tapping]

[thinking] Hmm...

Brad: Woah!

Nice job with the feet!

Edmonia: Thank you!

I'm really proud of it.

And I can't wait to share it with the world.

Xavier: It's so cool that Edmonia's art

represents her and her family.

It makes it really special.

Hm, maybe I should make art

that represents me and my family too.

[gasps] I know what to make for Mom!

Yadina: You do? What?

Xavier: [Big grin] You'll see.

that represented our family.

Brad: In her life, Edmonia Lewis

made a lot of amazing sculptures!

people around the world are still enjoying them,

and being inspired by them.
