Xavier: ♪ Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum! ♪ Shhh!

Xavier: Good day, fair audience!

Yadina and I welcome thee to our humble production.

Yadina: Hi! And welcome to the show.

Xavier: [giggles] I'm just super excited to introduce

the ahhh-mazing person

we're about to meet:

William Shakespeare.

When he grew up, he became a poet.

That's someone who puts words together in special ways

to express feelings.

Yadina: Shakespeare was also a playwright,

someone who writes plays!

Xavier: Some of his plays were sad tragedies.

♪ Brad: [panting]

[gasp] Alas, I overslept

and missed the start of the show!

Yadina: [off screen] And some of Shakespeare's plays

were funny comedies.

Brad: Ah?

Now let's start the show!

[splat]

Xavier/Yadina: [laughing off screen]

[laughing] Brad: Hm...?

Brad: Morning!

What's so funny?

Yadina: [laughs] Last night, I called Xavier for dinner--

[laughter]

Xavier: [laughing] So I jumped up--

Yadina: [laughing] Then he...

--waaaah!

Brad: Uh, I don't get it.

Xavier: Ah, I guess you had to be there.

Yadina/Xavier: [laughing]

Brad: [to Dr. Zoom] Can you keep a secret?

I feel like I miss out sometimes.

Xavier and Yadina are brother and sister,

so they get to spend LOTS of time together.

Sometimes I feel kind of jealous.

I wish there was some way

to get rid of this feeling.

Berby: [blee blar bloop]

Brad: Uaaah! Berby? When did you get here?

Berby: [blar blee blurp]

Brad: Right! You live here.

Um, never mind what I said.

You heard nothing! No! Shh! Yeah, uh-oh!

How are you?

Berby: [blee blar bloop]

Xavier: [off screen] Oh! Look!

Yadina: The Secret Museum wants us to meet someone?

Brad: Whaaa-? Naaaaaw.

The podium's probably just broken or--

Yadina: Let's go!

[giggles]

Brad: Wai-wai-WAIT!

Xavier: ♪ [excited humming]

We're getting something!

Brad: Am I supposed to write an old-timey letter

about how I'm feeling? Berby: [blee blarp]

Xavier: [chuckles] Look!

William Shakespeare!

That's who we're going to meet!

Yadina: In England, in the year .

Brad: [calculating] Wait, that's...

over years ago!

Yadina: I wonder why the Secret Museum

wants us to meet William Shakespeare?

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Ready for adventure? Yadina: Ready!

Brad: Y'know, I think I may be allergic

to ye old ancient times.

[big fake sneeze] Aaah choooo!

[sighs] Okay... ready.

Berby: [whirring]

[bleep blarp!..bloo bloop!] Yadina: Here we go!

Berby: [bleep blarp]

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on Dr. Zoom!

Xavier: Woohoo! Brad: Woaaaah!

Berby: [blee blarp bloo bloop]

♪

[zap]

[blar bloop]

Xavier: So this is England in .

It's so...

quaint!

♪ [trumpets blare] Trio: [startled] Aaah!

Shakespeare: Did you feel that?

Brad: You mean my heart? Yes, I feel it beating--fast!

[deep breath] Berby: [scanning]

Yadina: Heeeey, that's him!

William Shakespeare.

Thanks, Berby. Berby: [blee blarp]

Shakespeare: Hearing those trumpets always makes me

feel so excited!

What about you?

Brad: Uuuh, I'm still stuck on surprised.

Shakespeare: It's all right to feel how you're feeling.

Surprise!...

at a sudden sound,

curious about what made it,

or excited, because you know

it means something great is happening!

Xavier: Something great is happening?

Shakespeare: The players are here!

♪ [trumpet fanfare]

They travel from town to town

to put on plays.

And I LOVE plays!!

I must get a closer look.

Xavier: I wonder if that's why the Secret Museum sent us here--

to see a play?

Brad: Oh, um... yeah! Probably.

Berby: [bloo blarp]

Yadina: Sounds like that's a 'no'.

♪ Brad: Uaaah!

[zap] Yadina: [gasps] Where are we?

Brad: When are we?

Berby: [blur blurp]

Xavier: Berby says it's years later.

We're in a theatre!

Brad: [yelps]

Yadina: [gasps] Shakespeare!

Shakespeare: [to Brad] Apologies, kind sir.

Didn't mean to scare you.

Brad: Me? Scared? Nooo!

I wasn't scared...at all.

Shakespeare: It's all right to feel how you're feeling.

Surprised, amused,

angry, sad and...

even scared.

A-haaa! Trio: [gasp]

Wow!

Shakespeare: Behold! I wield mine own quill

to give words to players upon a stage.

That means I write plays now.

Xavier: Hey, the artifacts from the Secret Museum!

Yadina: So are we going to see a play?

Shakespeare: Not yet-- my players haven't arrived.

Ooh, I have an idea!

Would two of you help me rehearse a scene?

Yadina: I will! Xavier: Oh yes!

Brad: [sad] Here we go again.

[to Dr. Zoom] I'm left out and...

I feel a bit...jealous.

Shakespeare: Yadina, you'll play the mischievous Puck,

and Xavier will play Bottom,

a very confident character.

Xavier: Me? Be confident?

No problem-o.

♪

[softly snoring]

Yadina: Now when thou wakest,

with thine own fool's eyes peep...

Time for a little prank...

[giggles]

Xavier: [softly snoring]

[big yawny stretch]

Shakespeare/Brad: [laughing]

Xavier: Time to put on an ahh-mazing show!

[gasps] I've been turned into a...donkey!

How embarrassing.

HEE-HAW!!

Shakespeare/Brad: [laughing]

Shakespeare: We all feel embarrassed sometimes,

and it's all right to feel how you're feeling.

Brad: Hmm..

I know it's all right to feel some feelings,

but I'm not sure about all of them.

Shakespeare: Brad, could you help me with my next scene?

You'll play the character of Iago,

who must warn his friend to-

"Beware the green-eyed monster!"

[chuckles] All right?

Uh, Brad...?

Brad: Did you say...monster?

Shakespeare: Don't worry!

Those are just words I use to describe

how it feels to be jealous.

It's like a monster that's eating away at you.

Brad: That IS how it feels to be jealous!

I mean uh, if I ever felt jealous,

which of course I don't. Ever!!

Shakespeare: Really?...I do!

Which is why I have lots of characters in my plays

who feel jealous sometimes, too.

A character who's jealous

when his best friend becomes king!

Someone who's jealous that their brother

gets ALL the attention.

Yadina: I can relate to that one sometimes.

Shakespeare: And lots of characters who are jealous

of the time two people spend together without them.

Brad: You write about that many characters

who feel...jealous?

Shakespeare: Yes! Because jealousy is something

everyone feels sometimes!

And, it's all right to feel how you're feeling.

Brad: [sighs] Uuuughh!

Okay!

So, sometimes I do feel jealous.

Of how much time you two get to spend together

and how much fun I miss out on.

Like that thing you were laughing about this morning.

Xavier: Oh...yeah.

I get why you would feel jealous, Brad.

Yadina: Yeah. And,

we didn't do a very good job of explaining what happened.

Xavier: We're sorry.

What if we acted out what happened instead?

♪

Yadina: Last night, I went to tell Xavier

that dinner was ready.

[knocking]

Because we were having one of his favorites-- pizza!

Xavier: Yaha-haaa! Alright!

Yadina: He was so excited! Xavier: Woohoo!

Yadina: But, he didn't look where he was going,

and tripped...

Xavier: Waa-aaa-aah! Uh!

Yadina: He got back up...

Xavier: Ta-daaaa!

Yadina: ...but then slipped!

Xavier: Waa-aaa-aah! Ugh!

Brad/Shakespeare: [laughing]

Xavier: But the pizza made it aaaaall better.

[chef's kiss]

Yadina: End scene!

Brad/Shakespeare: [clapping] Bravo!Brad: Wooohoo!

Brad: Thanks for your help, William.

I felt a LOT of things today...

and now I'm feeling...happy!

Shakespeare: Me too.

♪ [trumpet fanfare] But hark...

...my players are here!

So I must bid you farewell.

That's fancy talk for "goodbye!"

Xavier: Bye! Brad: Bye William!Yadina: Fare thee well, Shakespeare!

Brad: Berby, let's go home!

Berby: [blee bloop blarp]

♪

Xavier: What if we have walkie talkies on ALL the time?

Then you'd always hear what we're up to.

Yadina: And you'd never feel left out or miss anything!

Brad: That might be a little too much togetherness.

All: [laughing]

Brad: I may feel a bit jealous sometimes,

but, that's okay.

Just like it's okay to feel..

[yawns] sleepy!

Time travel sure can take a lot out of a guy.

And so, I bid you farewell.

[snoring softly]

Xavier/Yadina: [giggle]

Brad: It was SO much fun to meet William Shakespeare,

who's considered one of the greatest writers

in history!

Xavier: He wrote plays filled with emotions

that everyone feels sometimes.

Yadina: Like, excitement!

Xavier: Anticipation.

Brad: Surprise!

Yadina: Frustration!

Xavier: Fear!

Brad: And even jealousy.

And that's okay.

Xavier: We're excited to introduce

the out of-this-world person we're about to meet:

Katherine Johnson!

Yadina: She LOVED math.

Brad: Katherine loved math so much,

that when she grew up, it became her job!

Xavier: She used her math skills to help

send some of the first Americans into...

SPACE!

Yadina: Time to start the show!

In three, two, one--

[zap] ♪

Xavier: Hey, look!

Yadina's class is in the library.

Brad: But, where's Yadina?

Hm...turtle section!

Yadina: Xavier! Brad! Check it out!

I'm doing a class presentation,

and you'll never guess what it's about.

Xavier/Brad: Turtles?

Yadina: Nope. Turtles!

Did you guys say turtles?

How'd you guess?

Xavier/Brad: [giggle]

Xavier: Because no one loves turtles as much as you do!

You have a turtle lunch bag,

a turtle water bottle--

Brad: A turtle pencil,

oh and turtle stickers--

Xavier: And a turtle best pal!

Yadina: Hm...

♪

Hmm...

guess I AM the only kid

who always reads about turtles at library time.

Is it weird that I like turtles so much?

Should I do my presentation about another reptile?

Something else entirely?

Xavier: No, no, no, no.

We didn't mean that you should change

your presentation, Yadina--

Yadina: Oh what should I do?

I know!

Brad: Just forget we were ever here--

Yadina: [loudly] To the Secret..

Oh!...

[whispers] Museum!

Brad: [groans] Ah!

Hey!! Wait for meeee!

Xavier: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Yadina: And where we'll go?

Brad: And when?

Yadina: Wow!

[c*ck clock chimes] Brad: Uaaaah!

Yadina: Look out below! Xavier: Wo-hoo!

Xavier/Yadina: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blee blarp]

Brad: Hi, Berby! Berby: [bloop]

Brad: Upf!

Xavier: [humming]

We're getting something!

Yadina: Huh?! Does the Secret Museum

think I should do my presentation about,

um, whatever this thing is?

Xavier: Katherine Johnson.

That's who we're going to meet!

Yadina: In West Virginia, in the year .

Brad: [calculating] That's, like...

years ago!

Yadina: I wonder how Katherine Johnson can help me

with my class presentation?

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Ready for adventure? Yadina: Ready!

Brad: Ooooor, we skip time travel

and do your presentation on...THIS!

It's not just pocket lint,

it's mysterious pocket lint!

[big blow]

Xavier: [sneezes]

Yadina: [sneezes]

Brad: Okay ready.

Berby: [whirring]

[bleep blarp, bloo bloop!]

Yadina: Here we go!

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on Dr. Zoom!

Xavier: Woohoo!

Brad: Woaaaah!

Berby: [blee blee blar bloop!]

[zap]

Xavier: Hm... Yadina: [gasp]

Xavier: So this is West Virginia in !

Katherine Johnson: [off screen] ...eight, nine, ten...

Yadina: [gasps] Berby: [scanning]

Yadina: Yes! Katherine Johnson.

Maybe she's counting turtles...

Which means she must love them...

and I'm not the only one!

Thanks, Berby! Berby: [bleep blarp]

Katherine: ..., , ...

Yadina: Hello! Are you counting turtles?

Katherine: Oh! Hello.

Ugh, I was counting lily pads.

Yadina: So you don't super-duper looove turtles?

Katherine: I like turtles for sure,

but what I super-duper looooove is...

MATH!

Xavier: Um. Did you say you love...math?

Katherine: Yes! Numbers,

addition, subtraction.

And counting!

I love to count the number of steps I take-

One, two, three.

The number of trees I pass-

[pointing to trees] One, two, three, four..

Even the number of stars in the sky!

Right now I just see one.

[giggles] The sun!

We all have our own passions to follow.

Mine is math.

Yadina: What do you mean by...passions?

Katherine: When you really love something

and want to learn everything you can about it-

that's a passion!

Yadina: That's how I feel about turtles!

But, I think I'm the only one...

Katherine: I doubt that.

I'm proud of my passion for math.

You should be proud of your turtle passion, too!

Oh, but I have to get home to help my brother Charlie

with his math homework.

That reminds me of two more reasons I love math:

to help people and to figure out the fastest way home.

Xavier: How can math get you home faster?

Katherine: By helping me to figure out

which path to take.

Now, let's think...

If I go through the park,

it's steps.

If I take the muddy shortcut,

it's just steps.

But the mud will slow me down.

If I can only take one step per second,

instead of two steps per second,

will I still save time?

Yes! The muddy path it is.

You wanna come?

Xavier/Brad/Yadina: Yes! Let's go!

Katherine: One, two, three...

Yadina: Four...

Xavier: Five...

Brad: Six...

Katherine: ,

and...

!

Brad: Oof!

You are one good counter, Katherine!

Charlie: Hey there, Katherine!

Looks like you brought a few friends home.

Katherine: I brought home one, two, three,

four friends, to be exact.

This is my brother Charlie.

Brad: Wow, your little brother is tall!

Katherine: He's two years older than me. [giggles]

Xavier: Wai-wait-wait.

So you're helping your older brother

with his homework?

Charlie: Having my little sister help me with math

was weird at first.

And even stranger when she came to my school to help,

when she was only four!

Katherine: I'm here to help my brother!

Charlie: [as teacher] Aww, Katherine, that's sweet of you.

But you're not old enough to start school yourself yet.

Katherine: Yes ma'am, but I know how to help.

Charlie: The teacher didn't believe

itty bitty Katherine could do math yet.

Katherine: That is, until I did.

Charlie: [as teacher] You ARE helping him, aren't you?!

[mind exploding]

Charlie: She'd never met someone

who loved math that much before.

Katherine: But, we all have our own passions to follow.

And mine is math.

Now let's see that homework, Charlie.

Yadina: Well one thing is clear:

Katherine Johnson is good at math.

So, does this mean

I should forget turtles

and do math for my presentation?

Berby: [bleep blarp]

Xavier: I think that's a 'no'.

Brad: Here we go again...

♪

[zap]

Yadina: Where are we?

Brad: When are we?

Berby: [blee blarp]

Xavier: Berby says we're in Virginia,

years later.

Katherine: Hello again!

Yadina: [gasps] Hi Katherine!

Are you still helping your brother with his homework?

Katherine: Nope!

Now I'm helping NASA.

Xavier: You work at NASA?!

As in the people who send astronauts to SPACE?

Katherine: That's right!

I had to work very hard to get here, too!

I'm among the first Black women

to become a NASA mathematician.

Yadina: Way to go, Katherine!

Katherine: Thank you.

Being among the first to do something can be tough.

People weren't always welcoming,

and that made me feel like

I had to prove I belong here.

But I won't let anything stop me

from following my passion.

Now I'm using math to help astronauts

land on the moon for the very first time!

The calculations are very tricky.

We have to consider the rotation of the moon,

the number of days it'll take

for the astronauts to get there,

how far the moon has moved in that time...

Xavier/Brad: Huh?!

Xavier: Uh... Katherine: [giggles]

I forget that not everyone

likes math as much as I do.

We all have our own passions to follow.

[machine beeping]

Yes! The math is right.

♪ [soft dramatic music]

Neil Armstrong: [off screen] The Eagle has landed.

All: [loud cheering]

Katherine: Yes!! We did it. We did it!

Yadina: Katherine followed her passion for math

all the way to NASA,

where she helped astronauts land on the moon!

It didn't matter to her if anyone else

loved math as much as she did,

because we all have our own passions to follow.

And, mine is turtles.

If I stick with it, maybe someday

I'll do something amazing, too!

The Galapagos Islands are home to lots of

amazing turtle species.

Like the giant tortoises,

which can live for over a hundred years!

Fun fact--sea turtles existed

at the same time as dinosaurs!

One day, I'm going to visit the Galapagos Islands to see them.

Yadina: It was super fun to meet Katherine Johnson.

Xavier: She was so good at math,

that Katherine was considered a human computer.

Brad: Her amazing math skills

helped make some of America's

first space flights possible.

Yadina: For her work, Katherine was awarded

the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
