[Lyla] Too Many Pumpkins
Hey, what's going on?
Time to replace the pumpkin and gourd display.
Why?
Because, our fall pumpkin squash extravaganza has come to an end.
Why?
Because, the season is over.
I've spent a whole month making butternut squash.
Pumpkin soup.
Parmesan Squash.
Pumpkin muffins.
Whipped squash.
And pumpkin spice everything else.
Yep, now it's time to move on.
But...I LOVE the pumpkins and squashes!
I've even named them!
Say what?
Here's Jehan, Leanna with an “e”, Ruth, and Crescent...
Trina, Utkarsh and Genie.
Lyla, sweetie, we can't keep the pumpkins here forever.
What if I keep them?
And do what with them?
I'll collect them and um...take care of them!
Please, Dad!
Pretty please with butternut squash and pumpkin spice on top!
[sigh] Okay, Lil' Loops, you can keep them... for now.
[gasp] As many as I want?
Well- [Lyla] -Yay!
[clears throat] Attention, please!
If you have any pumpkins or gourds you were gonna get rid of,
bring them here to Lyla's Pumpkin Donation Station!
C'mon Stu, let's take all the pumpkins and squashes to my room!
[trills]
Goodnight, Jehan.
Goodnight, Leanna with an “e.”
Goodnight, Ruth.
Goodnight Crescent.
[yawns] I'm sleepy, can you speed it up?
Oh, okay.
Goodnight Roxana, Astride, Llacey, Carleton, Trina and Utkarsh and Genie!
Hey, what about me?
Oops, sorry.
Goodnight, Lukey!
Goodnight.
Hey... what's that noise?
Lyla! Lyla! Lyla!
Huh... who... wha?
That pigeon is trying to get your pumpkins!
What! Shoo!
[trills]

[trills]
I'd better move these.

Lyla, honey, can you come down to the diner for a minute?

[trills]
[trills] [gasp]

Hey Stu, Loops alarm!
LOOOOOP! LOOOOOP!
Lyla, the quickest way to SOLVE a problem is to admit there IS a problem.
But I don't have a problem.
Girl, yes you do.
You've got a serious pumpkin-problem!
My pumpkins are NOT a problem for me.
Well, they are for me!
How?
They're crowding my trains, blocking my way,
and makin' me have bad dreams about giant pigeons pecking into our room!
I can't take it anymore!
NO MORE PUMPKINS!
Alright, alright, alright, calm down.
There ARE too many pumpkins and gourds in this room.
Yeah, so what are you gonna do about it?
[gasp] Can I put ‘em in your room?
Nu-uh!
Puh-leezzee!
Not for all the pumpkin spice in the world, girl!
Lyla, we can add a few to the diner's compost can, but sweetheart,
you've got to come up with a plan for all these pumpkins before-- --they rot!
No!
And stink.
Stink?! Oh no!
Nooo!
How can you say that?
It's reality, Lil' Loops.
They're going to spoil sooner or later.
But...
[gasp] What if I decorate them or make them useful?
Then, the people who donated ‘em might want 'em back, right?!
I don't know...
Puh-leezzee!
I'll put ‘em all in the storage room and work on them there.
Will you help me?
Oh! Decorating pumpkins could be fun.
True...we can carve ‘em and paint 'em!
Yeah!
Let's set up shop in the storage room!
Me too, I wanna help!
[gasp]
[trills]
[sigh of relief]
Great job everybody!
The gourds and pumpkins look awesome.
When we set them up in the diner, everyone will want ‘em again!
There's just one problem.
We still have so many!

Then we'll come up with more ideas.
We just need to think outside the box.
Hmm... [trills]

[gasp] I've got it!
Mr. Ramsey, our history teacher,
has two gourds on his desk, that were made into maracas!
He shakes them to get the classes' attention.
Chickee-chickee-chickee!
Yeah, we can make maracas and other instruments from gourds.
Great idea!
I'll bet there's lots of videos online that'll show us how.
I found some stuff we can use to make instruments.
Rubber bands, string, and fabric.
Just don't make a piccolo.
Or a trombone.
We've got those covered.
Can I make this one into a drum?
Yeah!
It's the perfect size and shape.
[laughing] [trills]
Thanks Stu, these are the perfect size and shape to be maracas...
[trills]
...once we hollow them out.
Let me show you.
First, we make a cut at the top of the gourd, like this.
Then, we use a spoon to scoop out all the insides.
When we're done, Dad can dry them out in the oven.
Once they're dry, we can fill them with seeds to make maracas!
[trills]
[struggling] Ah!
So cool!
We made a gourd guitar and gourd maracas...
And don't forget my pumpkin drum!
So, what do we do with ‘em now?

--And THEY agreed to compost pumpkins and gourds into farm food for the soil
which could become more pumpkins
