04x05 - A Dicey Situation/Lift Off

Post by bunniefuu »

[Orli] My name is Agent Orli,

and this is my partner, Agent Ozzie.

This is how an octopus stays warm in winter.

Back to us.

We work for an organization run by kids

that investigates anything strange, weird,

and especially odd.

Our job is to put things right again.

-[light dramatic music] -[monster grumbling]

[laser zaps]

[bell chimes]

[Orli whoops]

News time!

-[fingers snapping] -[bell chimes]

-[mouse roars] -[hands clapping]

[Orli] We are Odd Squad.

[light dramatic music]

[Captain O] A "Dicey Situation."

Thanks for coming, Odd Squad.

What seems to be the problem, sir?

My milk has turned bad.

Okay.

I'm not really sure that's an Odd Squad problem,

but we can show you to the nearest store.

No, I don't mean my milk has turned bad like that.

Watch.

Excuse me, Milk.

Please can I have some milk?

[Milk] No, I'm never coming out to this jug

and you can't make me.

Okay, why don't I just zap it?

Hold on, Ozzie, just give me a moment with the milk.

Hey, where's all this anger coming from?

[Milk] Steven used to have me in tea,

but now he drinks fruit teas

and he only needs me at breakfast.

It's like he doesn't care anymore.

Of course I care.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

[Milk] Really? Do you mean that?

Absolutely.

Our work here is done.

Have a great day.

I'm so glad we got that sorted.

Without you, my cereal tastes awful.

[Cereal] What!

I should have known that's how you really felt.

-Odd Squad! -[light dramatic music]

Four, five, six.

Yes!

Ah, my turn.

[Captain O grunts]

Seven. The luckiest squid in the sea.

Hand them over.

[sighs] You're unbeatable.

How are you so good at board games?

Ah, now that's a story.

Would you mind telling it to us?

Oh, sure.

You see, before I was captain at Odd Squad,

I was captain at Odd Squad.

A different Odd Squad.

We begin the tale aboard the OS Odd Squad.

What did the OS stand for?

Odd Squad.

So it was the Odd Squad Odd Squad?

[sighs] Aye.

[light dramatic music]

Back then it was just me and my first mate, Osgood.

Oh, so that's where you met Osgood?

Yep. He was my first mate and my best mate.

And my first best mate

since we were in nursery school together.

Osgood was the ship's cook and a first class jazz dancer.

[upbeat music]

Beautiful moves, Osgood.

What's on the menu today?

This is made out of sea biscuits and fish?

Glistenening sand, it never looked so tasty.

-[horn honks] -[suspenseful music]

[Captain O growls]

[Oddmiral] Ahoy, ahoy! It's the Oddmiral here.

A villain has struck island #!

A villain has struck island #?

[Oddmiral] And we need to investigate!

And we need to investigate?

A villain has struck island # and we need to investigate.

-No way! -Let's go!

[light dramatic music]

[civilian] Ahoy there!

Odd Squad, you've got to help me.

What's happened here?

Yesterday a villain turned up

and covered our island with polka dots.

So this look isn't a fashion choice?

-No. -You're pulling it off, sir!

Oh, thank you.

But it's not just me, they dotted the jetty.

They even dotted...

my Swiss cheese.

[Captain O gasps]

That's what it's supposed to look like.

Oh yeah.

Ahoy, Odd Squad! Ahoy!

[dramatic music]

Ahoy, ahoy.

See? You're a fashion trendsetter.

I didn't get my looks from him.

I'm a stripes girl.

But my island's just been covered in polka dots.

And tell me, what island are you from?

Island #.

[magical harp music]

So one day the villain struck island #,

then the next day they struck island #.

That's two less than .

Maybe it's a pattern and they're skip counting two each time.

If you skip count down two from eight, that's six.

Was the island that the villain struck next island #?

Let's find out. Shall we?

Onward to island #, Osgood.

Aye aye, Captain.

Onward to island #, Octo!

[horn toots]

Ahoy, ahoy!

Hello, I'm putting you on speaker phone.

[bell chimes]

'Tis I, Dottie Dubloon,

the villain who's been polka dotting things.

And you are about to polka dot island #.

We figured out your pattern and we're coming for you--

You figured out nothing.

I'm not headed to island six, and I don't have a pattern.

What!

Then how do you decide which island to polka dot each day?

I use dice.

Dice?

Yeah. Two of them.

They're as dotty as I am, and totally random.

[Captain O] So that's how you roll.

I choose the island

to strike based on the numbers they give me.

[Dottie snickers]

-Bye, Odd Squad. -[dial tone ringing]

It's all random.

There's hundreds of islands.

She could be going anywhere.

Cease your tragic dance, first mate,

and take a look at the information that we have.

Get the monitor.

Each dice has a maximum roll of six,

and Dottie's rolling two dice.

[Osgood] So the most she can roll is a .

[Captain O] Exactly.

She can't roll one, because the lowest she can roll

-is two ones, which is-- -Two.

[Captain O] That means there are only dice combinations

she can come up with.

Which means there's only islands

-she can possibly strike! -That's right.

Let's guess an island number from to .

Ready? Go.

[both] Island three!

Yes, we are so in sync!

Set sail for island #, Octo!

[Tour Guide] And this one's brown.

Where's Dottie?

Who's Dottie?

I'm starting the guided tour of island #'s rocks

right now with these people.

Our best rock is here.

This is my favorite rock.

[clicking music]

What was that sound?

It's coming from over there.

Spotty dotty, cover the lotty!

-Woo! -[dots popping]

Dottie Dubloon.

Dottie Dubloon escaped capture again and again.

We'd guess island #, she'd go to island #.

We'd guess island #, she'd go to island #.

It was hopeless.

Time to give up, Captain O.

I finally beat Odd Squad.

Randomness wins!

No Dottie, we're gonna keep guessing islands

and one day it'll be the same island you roll.

Yeah.

We'll guess island #, and then you'll roll island #

-and then-- -Nuh uh.

I've already been to island

and I would never polka dot the same island twice

in case the dots joined up and became splotches.

Yuck. Bye, Odd Squad.

[Captain O] Dottie has no idea how much help she just gave us.

So first Dottie struck islands and eight,

then , , and .

Then it was , , and .

That just leaves islands and .

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

[Osgood] We need to work out which island

she's more likely to hit next, Captain?

That's exactly what I was thinking.

-[hands clapping] -[horn toots]

Go for Captain O.

-[Oddmiral] Oddmiral here. -Oddmiral.

[Oddmiral] I'm transferring you.

You are transferring me?

[Oddmiral] To Odd Squad .

To Odd Squad ?

[Oddmiral] You leave tomorrow.

I leave tomorrow?

[Oddmiral] Stop repeating everything I say!

I need to stop repeating everything you say?

Okay. Bye, Oddmiral.

-[Captain O sighs] -[dial tone ringing]

Osgood, we've only got one chance to catch Dottie Dubloon,

or we might never solve this case

and that one chance is today.

-[Osgood gasps] -[dramatic music]

-A little later. -[bell clangs]

We've got the same chance of Dottie hitting island

as her hitting island .

She's equally likely to go to either.

Mm, maybe not, first mate.

So to get to seven, you can roll a one and a six,

a two and a five, a three and a four,

a four and a three, a five and a two, or a six and a one.

Making six ways to throw a seven.

[Osgood] But you can only roll a six and a six to get a twelve.

That's only one way.

There's more ways Dottie could

roll seven than a twelve, which means it's more likely,

though not certain, that seven will be next.

We'll head to island #.

All hands on deck!

Aye, aye, Captain.

[dramatic music]

We reasoned there was a better chance

of Dottie hitting island seven.

And we were right.

We caught up with Dottie en route to island #.

That's a beautiful painting.

[Captain O] Thanks. I like to dabble.

Arg, anyway.

There she summoned a beastly Kraken.

And we battled it till sundown.

Finally, we captured the villain

they call Dottie Dubloon.

-Yes! -Yes!

Woohoo.

Well done, Odd Squad.

Bet you're gonna be really good

at board games now, aren't you?

Well, sorry Dottie.

That's just how we roll.

-[Dottie muttering] -[magical music]

That's how I got so good at board games.

[Captain O snickers]

Fruit salad, anyone?

And for you, Captain O--

sea biscuits.

This is why you'll always be my first best mate, Osgood.

That and your dancing.

Strike up the music!

-We are. -We are.

[All] Odd Squad.

[Captain O] Since the beginning of time,

and we're talking way back,

we've been fighting odd.

In our spare time,

we also like to make pictures of ourselves.

I really like this one.

There's no case too big, no case too small.

At Odd Squad we do it all.
