Lily: Let's go!

♪ We love discovering together ♪

Lily: What is rain?

Lily: Why does it snow?

♪ Weather Hunters ♪

♪ Around the world, around the corner ♪

♪ our adventure's just begun ♪

♪ Could be cloudy, could be sunny ♪

Al: Hey, kids! The forecast calls for fun!

♪ Whatever the weather, we're in it together ♪

All: Weather Hunters!

Dot: Okay, Hunter family!

Day trip to the state park is a go.

Lily, you've got the other picnic basket?

Lily: Yes, the one with all our napkins and our tablecloth.

Dot: Corky, you've got the portable picnic umbrella?

Corky: Yep. Got it, Mom.

Dot: Al, you've got the grill?

Al: I've got the grill and the skill.

I know you kids love my world famous barbecue burgers

on a buttermilk bun.

Yum.

Wait!

Nobody move, ant crossing.

Ooh, I want to take a closer look

Activate Flex-Specs.

Lily: Magnify.

The ants are carrying food.

Maybe they're going on a picnic just like us.

I'm going to download this video to my tracker tablet.

Corky: Makes sense.

It's the perfect weather for a picnic.

Al: Weather? Weather.

Doh, I knew I forgot something.

I'm so used to doing a weather forecast for everybody else,

I almost forgot to check the weather for our picnic today.

Dot: Benny, what are you bringing all those for?

[grunts]

Benny: I'm going to play a new game I made up.

I call it “Benny Ball.”

First, you throw the baseball,

then you kick the football with one foot.

Then you kick the soccer ball with the other foot.

Then you throw the basketball in the hoop,

And then you hit the tennis ball

with the racket.

[sigh]

I forgot to get Corky's tennis racket.

Hold on there, Tiger.

Dot: I think “Benny Ball” isn't going to leave any room in

the Vansformer for the rest of us

How about we just take one ball,

and I'll put the rest of these ba*ls back in the house?

Benny: Okay, then I'm all ready to go.

Benny: Can we leave now, Dad?

Al: As soon as I check today's weather, Benny.

♪ music ♪

[dog barking]

Okay, fetch!

[barking]

Oh, you're such a good, good boy

I'm gonna miss you when we find you a forever home.

[barking]

Oh, I almost forgot.

I got you a present. It's a new collar.

[barking]

[click]

[barking]

[barking]

Woah!

Hey, you come back here, little fella!

You need your collar.

♪ music ♪

Uh-oh! Weather alert, Hunters!

Kids, lots of rain might be headed our way.

Does that mean no picnic?

Al: No, Corky. I'm forecasting the rain won't

get here until much later this afternoon.

I think we'll have a few good hours of sunny skies.

And that's long enough to have a good time at the park

before the rain moves in.

Benny: Yay! Lily: Whoo-hoo!

Corky: Yes!

♪ music ♪

Al: All righty!

Let's gather up our stuff, put it in the Vansformer,

and go, go, go!

I've got the basket.

Whoa!

This basket is a lot heavier than it was a minute ago.

[grunts]

Al: Come on!

I'm coming.

[beep]

♪ music ♪

[click]

[click]

[click]

[engine starts]

Dot: Everybody buckled up?

All: Yeah!

Dot: Good. We're off.

Benny: Yay! Corky/Lily: Whoo-hoo!

♪ music ♪

Dot: Everybody out!

Let's go enjoy this beautiful day.

Al: Corky, Lily, Benny.

Could you please help me get our things from the van

and put them on that table over there?

Corky: We're on it, Dad.

[grunts]

Phew!

Picnicking is hard work.

Lily: This basket is super heavy

Al: Lily, we need that tablecloth.

I'll be right there, Dad.

Come on, Lily Hunter!

Pull that picnic basket up with all the strength you've got

One, two, pull!

Woah!

[thud]

Al: Easy there, honey.

Are you okay?

Lily: I think so. That was weird.

First, that basket was light, then it got heavy

right before we left home.

And then it got light again,

just now, after I took it out of the van.

I wish it would make up its mind.

Corky: Hey, look, those look like paw prints.

Dot: They weren't there when I packed it.

Lily: Hm.

Then something must have gotten in there when

the tablecloth was inside the picnic basket.

Al: Well, my guess, Lily, is some little critter

got into that basket, then crawled out

when we got here. Ha! We had a stowaway.

Lily: I don't see anything.

Al: It probably ran off.

♪ music ♪

[splash]

♪ music ♪

Dot: Okay, picnic prep done.

[gasp]

Nobody move! It's another ant crossing.

Lily: Hm.

Lily: These ants are behaving differently from the ones

we saw before.

I want to take a closer look.

Flex-Specs, activate. Magnify.

Lily: These ants are moving much faster than the ones

I saw at home.

See?

Lily: Why are they in such a hurry?

Corky: And this anthill is a lot taller.

More like an ant mountain.

Benny: That ant's sticking his head in the hole.

Why is he doing that?

Lily: Whoa!

Those other ants we saw before

didn't do that.

I need to take some notes, so I can think about this later.

Lily: The first anthill was low and flat.

But the second anthill is a lot higher.

And why were the ants moving so fast?

I wonder what made them behave that way?

Dot: Now that we're here at the park,

why don't we go play “Benny Ball?”

There's a field just a short walk from here.

Benny: Yes! Hahaha!

Corky: Sounds like fun to me!

Lily: Let's go!

Al: While you do the walking,

I'll be running this here barbecue.

By the time you get back,

I'll be cooking up a storm.

Oh, that's a good one.

Get it? Weather? Storm? Cooking?

Come on, give it to me.

[giggles]

Lily: Got it, Dad! Thanks.

Dot: Thank you, hon.

♪ music ♪

Benny: Catch, Mom!

[laughs]

Lily: Think fast, Benny!

[laughs]

[gasp]

Shhh.

[gasp]

Corky: Where are the butterflies going?

Lily: This one's trying to hide.

Hm.

[beep]

[beep]

Benny: These butterflies are hiding too.

Corky: Do you think they're hiding from us?

Lily: No.

They took off before they even saw us.

Lily: And they seem to be hiding, like the ants.

But what are they hiding from?

Corky: Hm, I don't know, but Dad might.

Lily: We don't understand why the animals are

acting this way, Dad.

Al: Hm.

Come on, kids! We got a mystery to solve.

Al: Get ready for a Vansformation.

Benny: Oh, wow!

Corky: That's so cool.

Al: Come on, everyone.

[rustling]

Al: Let's see what you've observed.

Lily: Well, first we saw the ants at the park

moving much faster than the ants we saw at home.

And they built a much taller anthill.

Then the last ant

plugged the hole to the anthill.

And I've never seen that before.

Corky: Then we saw the butterflies squeezing into rocks

as if they were hiding from some

Lily: So, I'm thinking the ants and the butterflies

might be hiding from the same thing

But what do you suppose it is?

Al: Tell you what.

Let's go over all the information you've gathered

while we eat lunch

♪ music ♪

These are going to be my best

barbecue burgers, yet!

[sniffing]

I gotta say, Lily,

you've given us plenty to chew on

Get it? It's lunch. We're eating chewing.

[laughs]

Ooh, you've never laughed that hard

at my jokes before.

I must be even funnier than I thought.

Dot: Oh, my.

We're not the only ones who love your burgers, honey.

Al: Huh?

Hey, where did you come from, little fella?

Now, come on.

Burgers are for kids, not dogs.

[whimpers]

Hi, little guy.

I'm not going to hurt you.

Dot: Wait, Lily, you always have to be careful

when approaching a dog you don't know.

Here, let me see.

Oh, such a cute little pup.

[sniffs]

[laughs]

I think we've solved the mystery of who our stowaway was.

[whimpers]

Benny: Hey little doggie, come back!

[whimpers]

Aw, easy there, little fella.

Lily: Dad, I've been giving it a lot of thought,

and I think I know

what's bothering the animals and this little guy.

Al: Tell me.

Lily: You told us that thunderstorms are coming.

I know it's

not raining yet, but I'm wondering if the animals

are acting strange because they the thunderstorms are coming.

Al: I like the way you're wondering, Lily.

Whatever the weather, we're in it together.

Even the animals.

Lily: But the sun's still out.

How do the animals know it's going to rain?

Al: That's a good question.

And a good question is the first on the path to a great answer.

Corky: And an even shorter path would be

for you to just tell us the answer.

Lily: No, don't tell us.

I want us to solve this ourselves

but just give us a hint.

It will all make senses when you figure it out.

Don't you mean, “It'll all make sense"?

Do “eye”?

Who “nose”?

Lily: What's your point, Dad?

[laughs]

[whimpers]

[beep]

[gasp]

Whoa! Calm down, buddy.

[buttons beeping]

[laughing]

He's making the weather map.

[whimpers]

Lily: Do you hear something?

What is it?

You smell something, too?

Corky: I don't smell anything either.

Lily: If we can find what he heard and smelled

it'll help us figure out

how he knows it's going to rain.

Time to start investigating.

Corky: And video recording.

Lily: Yay! Whoo-hoo!

Benny: Yay!

[whimpers]

You're cute, but you're awfully grubby.

Maybe while they're out investigating,

I'll give you a bath.

That tickles.

♪ music ♪

Lily: Does anybody here smell anything different?

I don't, do you?

Lily: No, I don't either.

Do you see that?

Those fish are jumping clear out of the water.

They weren't doing that before.

I wonder if they know

it's going to rain too?

Corky: But how would they know?

And even if they did, why would they jump?

That dog heard and smelled somet something

and the fish are jumping.

And Dad said it will all make senses.

Corky: Lily!

Lily: Smelling and hearing and feeling are all senses.

Did the dog smell and hear the rain

even though we couldn't?

Corky: That makes sense.

Dogs can smell and hear things better than humans can.

Lily: I know what upset the dog and maybe

why the other animals are acting strangely too.

The dog can sense the rain is coming

He was smelling something

even though the rain is still far away.

The ants and butterflies and fish

must have sensed something too.

I forecast your chance of being right is %.

So, what was the dog smelling when he kept sniffing the air?

Al: When lightning strikes

it creates a gas that's got a sharp smell,

and a dog can smell it from far away,

even if we can't.

Lily: If there's lightning, there's thunder.

Is that what the dog heard?

Al: Right again.

He could hear it

but it's still too far away for humans to hear

Corky: What about the butterflies

and the ants and the fish?

Al: A storm can cause changes in air long before it arrives.

Those other animals can actually feel it.

It's called air pressure.

Lily: Weather Hunters do it again.

Another weather mystery solved!

Al: I am so proud of you

for staying on the path until you figured it

Benny: And I drew a picture of the dog.

Al: That's a wonderful drawing, Benny.

I'm proud of you too, but I've got a surprise for you.

Guess who doesn't look like that drawing so much anymore?

[barks]

Lily: The dog has white fur!

Dot: Wow!

[laughs]

He looks like a fluffy cloud.

[laughs]

He does, Benny. Like a cumulus cloud.

[barking]

Corky: Mom, Dad, can we keep him?

Dot: Corky, this dog might already

belong to someone.

They could be looking everywhere for him.

Corky: But what if he's a stray, and he doesn't have an owner?

Lily: He's not wearing a collar.

Al: They have a point.

Dot: Al.

Al: And look, he's so cute.

Dot: First, we have to do everything we can

to find his owner.

If no one comes forward, then

maybe, we can consider adopting

All: Yay! Whoo-hoo!

I'm going to make a drawing of him

the way he looks now and call him Cumulus.

Just like the cloud.

[barking]

I think Cumulus likes his new name, too.

[barking]

Corky: I'll do what I can to find his owner.

Lily: What if we feature him in our next Weather Hunters report?

Corky: That's a great idea.

♪ music ♪

No, I haven't found him yet,

and I'm really worried.

What if the weather turns bad?

The weather forecast for today?

Why, I have no idea.

Wait.

Ms. Joyce: All the Hunters are such an adorable family,

and they always have the latest forecast.

Hi, folks.

We're the Weather Hunters!

And here's today's weather report

A storm is slowly moving in.

Expect winds, thunder, lightning and rain to start soon.

Oh, dear.

But the real weather story is

what my family discovered today.

Lily: Thanks, Dad!

I'm so excited to share what we learned about how animals

can sense weather sometimes, even before people can.

Lily: This afternoon at the park I noticed ants that

were behaving differently than the ones I saw this morning

Check out this video my sister, Corky, took

of these butterflies we saw,

squeezing into cracks in a rock, as if they were hiding from some

And these fish were really jumpy

Even this little dog became very

Why were they all behaving this

Ms. Joyce: Oh, is that?

What I learned was that animals could sense that a storm was on

before we humans could even see a single rain cloud in the sky.

That's amazing, right?

Animals can sense storms before people can.

So, that is our new weather fact for today.

[barking]

And now, here's my sister, Corky Hunter,

with other important news.

Thank you, Lily.

Folks,

it appears that this little lost dog knew a storm was coming,

so we think he probably got upset and ran off to hide.

They found him. I can't believe it

[laughs]

Oh, thank goodness.

Corky: Okay, Mom. Dad.

Since we got home, Lily

and I did all the things we were to do to find Cumulus' owner.

We called the animal shelter to see if anybody

reported him missing.

Corky: Mom posted his picture online

and we put up fliers in the neighborhood.

We even put him on our weather report

So far, nobody has gotten in touch with us.

[barking]

Ms. Joyce: Hello!

I'm Vivian Joyce, and I live just down the road.

Dot: Pleased to meet you, Miss Joyce.

I was just watching your report, and I saw you found my lost dog.

He ran away this morning, and I've been looking for him

all day.

Oh.

Ms. Joyce: Come here, boy!

[barking]

We would have contacted you, but the dog didn't

have a tag or a collar.

I just got him a new collar, and I was getting ready

to put it on him when he dashed off.

Benny: He has to go home with you now?

Lily: Yes, Benny, Cumulus is Miss Joyce's Cumulus.

Benny: Can we? Can we say goodbye to him?

Ms. Joyce: Of course!

You tried to steal my burgers.

Then you stole my heart.

Al: I'm going to miss you, little guy.

Lily: You'll always be our little Cumulus cloud.

[barking]

[sigh]

I'm gonna miss you, Cumulus.

♪ music

You know,

I'm only fostering him until we can find him

a good, loving, forever home.

But it seems like he found his forever home all by himself.

You mean he isn't your dog?

Corky: Oh, can we adopt him?

Benny: Please?

Lily: Pretty please.

Al: Well, first we have to check

with your mother.

Dot: Yes!

[cheering]

Benny: Yes! Lily: Thank you, thank you.

Corky: Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Dad.

[thunder rumbles]

There's the rain.

Come on, everybody

let's go inside and finish off some picnic leftovers

Al: You too, Ms. Joyce. Come join us.

Ms. Joyce: Why, thank you.

Al: Tell me, have you ever had a barbecue

burger on a buttermilk bun before

[thunder crashes]

[whimpers]

I'll get him.

Come on, Cumulus!

Don't you want to see your new home?

[barking]

I think that's a very enthusiastic yes!

You're a Hunter, now.

Just remember,

Lily/Al: Whatever the weather, we're in it together.
