to get more challenging.
Jena: In this second challenge,
we've gotta make
quick concessions.
Time is of the essence,
and unless we make
those concessions,
we're going to
be stuck behind.
Savannah: We have definitely
learned some lessons
on the first challenge,
We are going to be more aware
of our communication.
Rotem: Our teamwork
has been great so far.
Being away from the kids,
I think brought us
a little bit closer
together, too.
Arnold: I'm feeling
pretty good.
I feel a little more
confident in my,
my cabin building abilities.
I feel like
I know what to expect now.
Scott: Now that you've
completed your
main floor primary bedroom,
main floor bathroom
and the front entryway,
it's time to tackle
the second big challenge.
So this week, you guys will
be tasked with completing--
Your living rooms.
Rotem: Yes!
Scott: I know it's one room,
but it is the biggest room
in the entire cabin.
It spans the majority
of the main floor,
it flanks the kitchen.
So you have to think
how that's going
to incorporate into the space.
The staircase is also part
of your living room.
The ceiling is two stories high.
Bryan: It's also one of the most
important rooms in the house.
This is where people will spend
the most amount of time
and create memories.
And this is the room that will
keep them coming back, or--?
Scott: Prevent them from
booking your place at all.
Bryan: Yeah!
Scott: You want to nail this.
Bryan: The team with
the best cabin
at the end of this competition,
will win--
Scott: Not only the
bragging rights
as Renovation Resort champions,
but $100,000.
Teams: A hundred grand!

Bryan: The work in the living
room must be completed
by the end of the week.

Jena: Here we are, man!
We've got to do an
interesting living room!
Sean: 'Kay.
Jena: Now I know this
is a rental property,
but we're really thinking
about how people are going
to use that space and make it
a space where they can play,
they can sit, they can read,
they can relax,
they can enjoy
a good conversation.
When it comes to designing
this living room,
these log walls are awesome,
but we're going to add some paint
just to bring them to life.
And as this room is all about
hanging out,
I'm thinking we build two
platform sofas from scratch
and put them kitty-corner
to each other.
We'll scatter accent furniture,
which will tie in nicely with
the metal welded staircase,
adding a modern industrial
feel to both floors.
I think we should do that.
Okay, let's do it.
Jena: Amazing.

Savannah: I want to be able to
walk in
and just have a clear view
of this beautiful lake.
When it comes to
this living room,
I don't want to go safe.
I want to be bold.
That is what's going to get us
ahead in this competition!
That knee wall, it's got to go.
And the plush area rug will add
some warmth and texture.
The centerpiece will be this
dramatic fireplace,
which we will surround
with lots of comfy seating.
I really want to add some
patterned details on the stairs.

Kyle: This will be good.
♪
Rotem: All right, Troy,
so I got some
really big ideas for the space.
You're going to build me
a huge eight foot radius arch.
Troy: Oh, another arch.
Surprise, surprise.
Rotem: I want to create a
feature wall with a huge arch
and faux stone panels
to house the TV.
We'll carry the stone panels
over to the wall by the stairs
to create a cozy seating area
with an electric fireplace.
And finally, I want to add
faux wood beams to the
sloped ceiling.
Troy: This is a big arch!
Rotem: Yeah, it's
going to look great.
Troy: How long do we
have to finish this?
Rotem: Troy, make it happen. We
need to win this competition.
Troy: We're going
to make it happen!
Rotem:
That's what I want to hear.

April: Oh, wow!
Look at those ceilings!
They're so tall!
Arnold: What I think we should
do is get rid of this wall
so we can really see
how much space we have here.
April: Yeah! Need like
some sort of technology.
I love how you bring
those elements of technology.
Arnold: Oh, I'm glad
you brought that up.
I'm looking at these stairs.
We can add some, some lighting,
going up the stairs,
we have it all--
April: Motion?
Arnold: Motion, colour change--
April: The living room, I want
to spend a little bit more on,
because I think it's one
of the most important.
We got some work to do here.
I want to start by adding
a floor to ceiling fireplace.
We'll give it that luxury feel
by adding large format tile.
We'll also add modern
glass railings
and sleek contemporary furniture.
All of this will create a cozy
seating area for our
guests by the fire.
Arnold: I am ready.
April: Let's do it!

Rotem: We're going to start
building this TV unit.
Troy: That's going
to look great.
Rotem: Yeah?
Troy: It's not
going to be easy.
Rotem: Okay, I'll be back
with some two by fours.
Troy: Rotem is very talented.
She's not just a designer,
she's also very hands on, so
she can tackle a lot of things.
When we bought our
first house in 2008,
I didn't know
much about the business.
She was born-and-raised
into the business.
Her dad's a great
general contractor.
You inspired me and then
as soon as you start to build
something, it's very rewarding.
Then you're like,
'Oh, I can do this'
Rotem: Troy!!
Troy: Yeah?
Rotem: Look, what just came in!
Troy: You start taking on
bigger and bigger projects.
And then next thing you know,
you're on a
building competition!
Rotem: And this is what makes
us a very good dynamic,
because we both really
love what we do.
How are you going
to put this on?
Troy: Put some construction
adhesive on the back
and nail it? Yeah.
Rotem: Yeah?
I'm really excited
to see this go up.
Troy: As am I!
We're a team! We're a true team.
Rotem: We've been married--
Rotem/Troy: 14 years.
Troy: Gone like that.

Rotem: Yeah.
Troy: Every day
has been fantastic.
Rotem: As soon as
you walk in here,
it's the first thing you see.
Troy: I like your style.

Sean: There wasn't
a different color.
Jena: No, 'sand' we're good.
Sean: We've got to
complete the floor,
in order for me
to build my custom furniture.
On top of that, Jena has got
a lot of painting to do.
Jena: Painting and I
have a really,
you know, back and forth relationship.
It's a lot of work. (sigh)
Sean: You love it!
Jena: I like when I'm
finished the paint job.
There is the utmost
trust in one another,
to get our own jobs completed
so we can work together
and make something wonderful.
When Sean came along,
I knew it was going
to work right away
because our value was the same.
I know there's no other
perfectionist like this guy.
You're the best!
Sean: You're not too
bad yourself, girl.
Jena: Oh, thanks, darling!
Sean: I don't care what
they say about you.
Jena: Yeah..(laughs)

Arnold: A lot of tile,
a lot of waste,
and a lot of money.
April: Then we'll just have to
find ways to work around it.
Arnold: We have a very
kind of aggressive plan
on putting this larger
format tile on to the fireplace.
It'll give us an opportunity
to make it a real
centerpiece for that space.
I got into construction
kind of out of necessity.
Growing up,
we went back and forth
between like homelessness
and living with family,
I bought a house. I was 20
years old and I had no money.
I had to figure
a lot of things out.
And so I started out
kind of watching
the contractors
that I had hired,
seeing them
kind of do certain things
and just try it and
figure it out for myself.
This is my first time building
a structure of this size,
10 feet, 6 feet wide.
I love a new challenge.
I'm always excited to
get in and get started.
For me, it has a lot of meaning
and work in the homes
and creating beautiful
spaces for people.
I get to give this gift
to families that, you know,
that I feel like I didn't really
have a chance to give myself.

Rotem: Okay, here we go!
Troy: Here we go.
The archway in the living room
is the largest archway
we have in the space.
It's grand.
It's going to take time.
We gotta go big or
we gotta go home, right, so--
Rotem: I believe this is going
to take us home, this arch.
Rotem/Troy: (scream in panic)
Troy: Row!
Rotem: I thought
you were holding it!
Archways are... very welcoming.
They almost
feel like an embrace.
And this was very important
for me to bring through
in this cabin for a
Mediterranean theme.
All right. We're going
to line this up.
(power tool whirring)
Troy: Golden!

Jena: We decided to paint
the log walls out
and we think it's just going to
create a seamless,
clean finish for the space.
What I need you to do
is watch how the pros paint.
Sean: Oh, get off it!

Savannah: When it comes to the
design, I want to stand out.
I'm thinking... a unique shape
to the ceiling.
With the style that I'm going
with, with the fireplace,
I want it to feel like
the full thing is plaster.
Kyle: The look, she wants
for this fireplace
is not really my forte.
I can frame, I can hang drywall,
but doing the taping
and the texturing
is not really my expertise.
Savannah: Kyle,
this is going to be
the focal point of this space.
It's got to be beautiful.
Kyle: I know it'll be beautiful,
it'll just be difficult.
This is not my specialty so,
get ready for a
good big belly laugh.
Savannah: Kyle, be confident,
you've got this.
Kyle: So normally
I'm not a drywall guy.
I've done small patches.
This is way out of my element,
so I really hopepe
I'm doing this right.

to understand the scope
of work with this project,
and now we're into
our second challenge.
Bryan: It's the living room.
Probably the most
important part.
Scott: The living room is
what gives these cabins life.
Bryan: Life! Life.
Scott: That's why
it's called the--?
Bryan: Living room.
Scott: Boom!
Bryan: Yeah!
Kyle: This is way
out of my element.
So I really hope I'm
doing this right.
Savannah: Don't over think it.
Scott: Savannah and Kyle
have a little bit of tension.
I think that, you know,
she comes up with
a lot of ideas,
but I think he's
pushing back, too.
Kyle: I will try my best
to mud it to give--
Savannah: A texture.
Kyle: The plaster appearance
you're looking for.
Savannah: Great!

Bryan: Will this be
a painted finish?
Savannah: I want this
to be a pop of color.
Bryan: Draw the eye, for sure.
Scott: Okay.
What have you guys learned
from the first challenges
that you've evolved from here?
Kyle: Oh, boy.
So first challenge, I learned
to just slow it down a bit.
Measure three, four times,
cut once.
I learned that the hard way.
Bryan: I mean, it's, it's
the tortoise and the hare.
Kyle: Yes.
Scott: Yeah, the tortoise...
...and the hair.
Kyle: That's right! Dad jokes!
Bryan: And the
tortoise always wins!
Scott: (laughs)
Kyle: That's very good.
Savannah: I get that.
Scott: All right, it sounds
like you guys have a big plan,
but a lot of work to do.
Kyle: Yes! A lot of work to do.

April: I am always on board
for some LED lights.
They always make a room
look really high-end.

Arnold: I really love
introducing LED lighting
and creating a space
that is not only beautiful
to look at, but
it's super functional.
I like to use technology
in a way where it's there
when you need it and
it's not when you don't.
(loud clack)
Nice! I am self-taught,
Okay, I love technology
and putting things together.
Like my mom always
called me MacGyver.
April: Wherever he goes,

Arnold: What do you think?
April: It looks fantastic.

once the fireplace is finished.

feeling at this point
in the competition? I'm sure
there's been some long nights.
You know you have a
lot of work ahead of you.

been surprisingly
um... exhausting.
And keeping up with
timelines is stressful.
But at the same time, this is
what we love to do. So--
Troy: I think we thrive
on the stress.

fishing, spending time
in the boat, on the water.
So a property like this,
I think for both of us,
it takes you back.
Scott: There's a lot of passion
in a project like this.
This resort has been known for
all kinds of fishing
for a long time.

There's no way we can
spend seven weeks
at this fishing camp
and not go fishing.
Bryan: I think that would be
an injustice to the camp.
Scott: And we can't be
involved in the competition
without making this
a competition.

a number of historical items
that we salvaged from
the original resort.

It might be nice to save

coming here now.

Kyle: So my idea for
the bonus build
is to use the sign
that we picked up
that says 'Office Store'
and just put little items
that you often forget when you
go on vacation, for sale
for our guests to make
their experience better,
and also an added revenue
stream for the rental.
Savannah: I think that Kyle's
idea is going to be genius.
Kyle: Genius, she says!

Jena: Sean and I end up
getting our hands on...
a boogie board,
an awesome ladder,
a super cheeky sign
that will be fun to play
in that living space,
as well as a 'no exit' sign.

Funny enough,
we've been a little bit light
on the accessories
in the living room,
so this bonus build is
helping us in this room

what I would rather

walls are fantastic.
A lot of guests like to
show up to a new place,
learn a few things.

April: We are not. The logs
will actually be this color.

Bryan: Large format tiles, you
have to know what you're doing.
Scott: Those big
tiles are a risk,
because the payoff can be huge,
however, hard to install.
You make one mistake, you lose
a ton of square footage.

Savannah: Kyle, do you know
what I think will be great...?
...on these stairs,
the black and white
tile from the entryway.
Kyle: On the risers?
Savannah: On the risers.
Cut like in... strips.
These stair risers,
I want them to be an impact.
I want them to be a pattern.
Kyle: One thing
I'm super proud of is
Savannah has this ability
to take
fairly ordinary tiles
or wallpaper
and orient them in a certain way
to make it something
you never thought it would be.
But it's absolutely fabulous.
The root of her DIY
comes from her ability
to create these
things in our home,
to make them beautiful
with just a very limited
amount of money.
It's always difficult,
but it always turns out well.
So I just learn
to lean into her.
Savannah: I just think
it looks so beautiful.

Jena: A main reason we've chosen
to go with custom-built sofas,
is because of budget.
We've only been given $100,000
for this whole cabin.
As much as that seems like
a lot of money,
there's a lot to pack in,
in that number.
(power tool buzzing)
Bryan: All the competitors know
there's a lot on the line here.
The stress is building.
So when Scott and I
walk into the cabin,
the excitement is worn off now.
Now it's just--
Scott: Now they're like, Uh-oh.
Bryan: Yeah, 'Uh-oh!'
Scott: Here comes
Scott and Bryan.
Hello?
Sean: Come in!
Bryan: Hello!
Scott: (chuckles)
Jena: Welcome!
Scott: Oh, my goodness!
Bryan: Look at this! I like this
industrial feel mixed with
the texture of the logs.
Jena: Totally.
Bryan: This is looking
really cool here.
You've got this curved feature.
Sean: Yeah.
It's a custom... sofa.
Scott: Oh, you're custom
building your furniture?
Sean: Well, we've got a budget,
so we've got to keep it down.
Jena: Our custom furniture
not only doubles as seating,
but there is extra
space to sleep
all around these perimeters,
if and when needed.
Bryan: We've got all
these angles in here...
Jena/Sean: Mhm.
Bryan: ...and I do like how
you're adding in that...
Sean: The curvature.
Bryan: ...curve,
that kind of brings
you around the corner.
It's almost inviting
when you come in.
Sean: Correct!
Bryan: Yeah.
Scott: In the first
challenge, you guys went
with some custom vanity.
Sean: Yes.
Scott: You guys really
wanted to save some money.
And now we're into
the second challenge,
and you guys are still
being super frugal.
Sean: Yes.
Jena: Absolutely.
Scott: What are you
guys saving up for,
that you're not
telling us about?
Jena: You'll have to
just wait and see.
Bryan: There's our cue!
Scott: Don't tell us twice.
Sean: Thank you, gentlemen.

Rotem: That was a perfect cut.
Troy: The stone fireplace wall
is the perfect little
addition to the living room.
This way?
Rotem: Yeah?
Troy: That's it. Yes, okay.
It's its own space, where guests
can have a little retreat,
sit in front of the fire,
have a nice beverage, hot drink.
So it's a multifaceted space.
Troy: Looks really authentic.
Rotem: Looks like a real...
...wood burning stove.

April: Clip?
Arnold: Yeah. Let me smooth
this one out a little bit.
When April and I met,
she was doing these really cool
and creative things
and I was doing the same boring
white and grey subway tile.
She's kind of inspired me
to really push myself
to try something different.
April: It looks
pretty good to me.
Arnold: Looks like
I might have done it.
Biggest challenge in a living
room was obviously this
ten foot-tall fireplace
with a sloped ceiling.

The goal is to do a
large format tile
so, it still gives
the appearance
of one seamless piece of stone.
♪
Having the tiles cut cleanly,
having smooth edges,
it takes time.
I'm doing my best.
We don't have a ton of tile,
nor do we have a ton of time.
I'm trying to make sure
I don't snap this thing.
(crack!)
Snaps.
Gotta start over.

Scott: With less than two days
left to finish

the living room challenge,
the teams are running
out of time to complete
one of the most important rooms
in the cabin.
♪
(grinder whirring)
Arnold: Making these long cuts,
trying to make sure
I don't snap this thing...
(crack!)
Snaps! Gotta start over.
Had a nice clean cut,
and then the weight
distribution snapped it off.
Hopefully it won't snap again.
So, we don't have a ton of tile,
nor do we have a ton of time.
Sean: Your side.
Jena: Having Sean so well
equipped on the tools,
allows us to go for
ultra custom looks.
It's literally like a twin-size
mattress. Oh yeah!
If we want a 15 foot sofa,
we can rely on this guy
to make it happen.
Sean: And also,
you can do like disco!
Jena: (laughs)
Sean: Custom sofas are built.
We're ready to
install the cushions.
Jena: Cushions!

is we have to install

on the ceiling.

space and nail them in.
Scott: It's the final day
of the living room challenge.
Jena: There's so much happening.
Things are moving so fast.
Scott: With the high quality of
work we've seen so far,
it's the little details
and mistakes
that will separate who wins
and who loses.
April: So we're coming
down to the wire
and there's still so much to do.
Arnold: We're almost
out of time.
Rotem: Last minute items,
you know,
we have to put our
bonus build into place.
This tackle box is perfect
for trivia cards
and the remote.
Jena: What are you doing?
Sean: I'm thinking a swing.
Jena: (excited gasp)
Yes!!
Sean: Hold that,
just hold it like that.

Scott: Okay, teams!

I'm just--I'm so anxious.
Jena: We put our heart
and soul into this, so,
absolutely, I'm nervous.

your second big challenge,
your living rooms.
You guys have been
working super hard.
Bryan: In order to help
us evaluate the work
that you've done, we've brought
in a very special guest judge.

Scott: Thanks for joining us.
Heather: Great to be here!
Today, I'll be looking
for a bunch of things,
the combination of
comfort and wow factor.
I also want a place
that feels like
any kind of family
can be in there.
Scott: Well, we have
a big task ahead of us.
We are going to go
check out your living rooms
and we'll be back
with the results.
I will show you the way.
Bryan: Let's go.

Scott: Welcome to Kyle
and Savannah's cabin.
Oh, okay!
Heather: Oh, wow!
Bryan: Look at that!
Scott: Oh, my.
♪
Bryan: That is a feature
piece, right there!
Heather: That pipe says it all.
Scott: This is a
huge transformation.
The theme is a
little bit romantic,
a little rustic.
Bryan: Rustic romance.
It definitely looks upscale.
Heather: Yes.
Scott: The railing,
lamps, the decor...
They built this themselves.
Heather: Wow!
Scott: And I think the
color draws in your eye.
Plus, you've got the
fireplace down here,
which makes it feel
super comfortable right away.
Heather: Absolutely.
It gives a cozy effect.
I love that that
TV is actually a TV
and not just a piece of art.
Bryan: My only issue with that
fireplace, is that
it is a feature.
It is the focus in this room.
You see the unfinished
drywall, you see divots,
you see all kinds of things.
If you're going
to create a feature,
you want to make
sure it's perfect.
Scott: I agree.
I got to give them credit
for tiling their risers.
That's definitely
a little different.
Heather: I love that!
Scott: Yeah.
Heather: I love that.
Scott: The thing that
I think I like the most,
is the fact that they
used the bonus build
and turned it into an
upgrade for the property.
So the office store sign
was something they collected
and made a list of items that
you can purchase as bolt-ons
to your experience here.
Bryan: People are always
forgetting things.
Heather: Yeah.
Bryan: So to have them
available and have that as a
revenue stream in
a vacation rental,
makes total sense.
Scott/Heather: Yeah.
Heather: Beautiful. Absolutely
stunning. I love the colors.
I think I would feel
very comfortable here,
but something about
the furniture
and some of the elements
make me feel like I'm not away.
Yes, it's a resort.
It was a little more glamorous
than I was expecting.
I want to feel like I'm
at a cabin a little bit more.
Scott: Yeah, they definitely
put a buck or two into this.
All: (laughing)
Scott: Savannah and Kyle went
big on this living room,
leaving them with just over
$60,000
for the rest of their cabin.
They're gonna have to watch
their costs moving forward.
However, I think they did
a pretty good job.
Heather: They did!
Scott: But I got
to see some more
before we can make a decision.
So let's go check
out the next cabin.
Bryan: There's
a lot more to see.
Scott: This is Jena and Sean's.

Bryan: Look at that!
Scott: Oh, very different.
Heather: Wow.
Scott: Wow!
They're really into
the swing of things.
I actually would have
never thought of this.
But I love it, because
everything is pulled back.
The space feels massive.
Heather: Yeah. You know that
openness, actually,
you feel more open and playful.
I think they've really,
got something there.
Scott: You feel open
and playful right now?
Heather: I do.
I feel very playful.
Bryan: So this is all custom
furniture in here as well.
They built the bases,
they had these upholstered,
they built this,
this planter box in here
and integrated the speakers.
Heather: I love it
and I love having this,
so you can sit on it.
You might plate a tray on it.
Scott: Yeah. In terms
of the bonus build,
they picked up the skim board,
turned it into a swing.
Bryan: Yeah.
Heather: This, I love.
It worries me a little bit.
Just that somebody's
gonna swing it too far.
Scott: I'm gonna try it.
Are you gonna...?
Are you gonna push?
Heather: Oh, my goodness!
Bryan: Lift your feet!
Scott: Uaaaah!
(laughs)
Heather: I love it.
Scott: It's kind of something,
it's super dangerous.
And then the ladder,
and turn that into
not only wall art but a light.
I think that was pretty cool.
Heather: I love that. This
to me is super playful.
So not having the TV here,
coming in and seeing this
immediately set a mood for me.
Bryan: This railing here, they
did spend some money on this
and had this custom
made and welded up.
And, finish carpentry-wise,
there are some details here.
You can see
the rough edges of MDF,
but we told all these teams
that this may come down to
the smallest of details.
Scott: Yeah.
Bryan: And I think it's
something that
that may have caught them
a little bit here.
Scott: Looking at the
lime wash in isolation,
it feels a little dirty,
but maybe it will tie-in
in the finished design.
Bryan: Well,
there's more to see.
Scott: Let's swing on
over to the next one.
Heather: (laughs)
Bryan: You first.
Scott: Jena and Sean
spent the least
on the previous challenge
and managed to save money
on this challenge by building
custom furniture.
This leaves them with a healthy
budget of almost $75,000
to finish their cabin.

Luxe Lodge.
Heather: Oh, wow!

Oh, beautiful!
Scott: Welcome Scott,
Bryan and guests.
All: (laughing)
Heather: That's me!
Scott: Everything that April
and Arnold do, is integrated.
Like they've got the
speakers integrated,
they've got the smart home
automation integrated,
the TV has been planned
and integrated
into this feature wall,
which is quite beautiful,
to be honest.
It's a very tech-forward
vacation destination.
Heather: Which I think is really
what people are looking for now.
For me,
the technology is a bonus
for people who are coming here.
Technology is here,
we are using it all the time.
We expect to use it on vacation.
Bryan: I'm a big fan
of the staircase.
I love the glass, keeps it open.
I like the dark risers.
I love the lights, because
that can be a night-light.
Everything
kind of ties together,
but it does give you
that real luxury feel.
Scott: I love the
large format tiles.
I know Arnold put a tremendous
amount of work into this.
Bryan: I think Arnold
did a great job.
But there are a few
chips here and--
Scott: Unfortunately they ended
up in a pretty obvious spot.
For a bonus build here,
they took some photos
from the old existing resort
that was here,
the fishing lodge,
plus the paddles,
which they've personalized.
I think that's a cute little...
a bit of a gallery wall almost.
Heather: I love the idea
that, like you said,
it feels like, oh,
this place has some history.
And as glam as it may feel,
as luxurious as it may feel,
this is where the roots are.
Bryan: You know, one thing I
said when I walked in here is
it feels sexy.
Heather: It does!
Bryan: This does feel like a,
you know, a 'love cabin.'
Scott: Oh, all the things that
are coming out of your mouth
right now are grossing me out.
Heather: (laughs)
Scott: You can call this
'the love cabin.'
Bryan: The love--
'the luxe love cabin'.
Scott: After a healthy investment
on the previous challenge,
April and Arnold
went all in in their living room
to set the tone
for their Luxe Lodge,
leaving them with just over
$64,000
to carry a team through
the rest of the cabin.

Rotem and Troy's.
Whoa! That came together.
Heather: Wow!
I love it!
Bryan: You love it?
Heather: I do!
Bryan: It feels
very... cabin,
you know, it feels fitting.
Scott: I was confused.
I thought this
was going to have a fireplace,
but this ended up being the TV
and they moved the
fireplace there.
So they've created two
features in this space.
Bryan: What a cozy
little spot though,
for your morning coffee...
Scott: I do like that.
Bryan: ...or your chess game.
Heather: And your evening
chess game, yeah!
Scott: Well you know, we can
take on our chess game here.
You ready?
Bryan: This is how our
relationship goes. Checkmate.
Heather: I'm learning so much.
Scott: What?!
Bryan: It's over.
(chuckles)
Heather: I think if you're
coming away to a cabin, you...
you really want
a little less TV,
and I feel like
this is really prominent.
Scott: This feature
that they did,
it is consistent
with their theme.
It's very Mediterranean.
Bryan: I think that's
the biggest thing
that hit me
when I walked in here,
is that my eyes are
immediately drawn up to these
antique looking beams.
But these are actually
faux beams. I love it.
And that carries on to
our staircase, which to me
it's just warm and inviting.
It looks great.
I love the steel
that they put in here.
Scott: I am seeing some of the
things from the bonus build,
the mounted fish on the wall
and then this tackle box.
Okay, so they filled
this with some games.
Bryan: Oh, interesting.
Scott: And the remote
control is in there.
They've patched a few
things in and you can tell
where they were
rushing, for sure,
maybe on that little
bull-nose detail.
But overall,
fantastic use of space.
It looks good.
Heather: It's clean.
Bryan: Everything looks good.
Heather: Nothing feels precious
in here either, right?
Like it all--
Scott: Except for Bryan.
Heather: There's a few
things that are precious.
Bryan: There's a couple
precious things in here.
Heather: Generally in the space,
the things people would
encounter in the space,
you know, it all looks very
comfortable, really well done.
Scott: Rotem and Troy
spent the least
on the previous challenge
but spent
almost double that
in their living room.
They have just over
$68,000 left,
but they still have more than
half the cabin to complete.
There's definitely
a lot to consider.
Our criteria are the creativity
of their designs.
We've got the quality
of the work,
and then the functionality
of the space.
We're really looking
to you, Heather,
to help us with that piece.
Heather: Nobody said it was
going to be this difficult.
They are all fantastic!
And trying to narrow it down
it's going to be tough.

Bryan: Impressive work,
from everybody.
Scott: That's wild! And clearly,
you guys have been
working really hard
since last week's challenge.
So congratulations on
completing these living rooms.
They look outstanding!
And you can really see
the cabins coming together.
You can really see the themes
starting to take shape.
And this one's going
to be difficult.
Savannah and Kyle,
I think that your fireplace
is a great feature
in your living room.
The choice of color,
just the detail,
I know that you guys
custom made that
and it anchors
the space extremely well.
Bryan: That feature, the
fireplace, the television,
I love the shape of it.
I think where you steered wrong
when you look at it, you see
the details that you missed.
You see the really rough
drywall work.
It still needs a coat or two,
some sanding and touch up,
this is all in the details,
and it comes down to those
minor finishes
that are important.
Heather: I love the space.
I thought it was
really cosmopolitan.
What might be difficult is,
is if you've got a family
in there,
some of it felt a little
precious and I was
a little worried that kids in
that space might be a problem.
Scott: I also have to say,
I really appreciate
what you did
with the bonus build.
Kyle: Cashflow, baby.
Scott: Yeah, I like that,
as a vacation rental property,
anything that brings in,
you know, more money,
anything that can be
an upgrade to the space
or profit maximizer,
I think that's super clever.
So bonus points on that piece.
Savannah/Kyle: Thank you.
Scott: April and Arnold,
you guys again, leaning into
the Luxe Lodge feel,
the most on brand
of all the spaces
would be your living room.
The technology is integrated
extremely well.
It's easy to see
that your design
and execution
matched up.
The TV fit perfectly.
Everything was backlit.
Bryan: We talked about
those large format tiles
and how difficult they are
to install, and you nailed it.
So that was a big bonus for me.
That was a huge feature wall,
installed extremely well.
There was just one small chip
in the tiles that wasn't great.
Heather: I also like
the lighted stairs.
I thought that was a really cool
feature and at night,
that it could be
sort of a nightlight
coming down the stairs
for young kids or older kids.
I love the tech aspects.
I think especially
for young families traveling,
or just younger travelers,
they're going to be
really excited about that.
April: Thank you!
Scott: Jena and Sean,
you custom built your furniture,
which has its advantages
because moving everything
back to the perimeter, makes
your living room feel gigantic.
You can probably put more people
in your living room
than anyone else's,
which is a huge bonus
for vacationers.
Heather: I love
the open-concept.
I'm always thinking family
and coming into that space
with the big ottoman
and I could see
a family in there
really enjoying themselves.
Bryan: I generally
like the space.
The one con I would say is,
you really have to focus on
sanding all the edges
of that wood.
You can see the
rough edges of MDF.
A lot of those little details
need to be touched up.
Scott: You had a
swing in the space,
which was a way to integrate
the bonus-build
into your project,
and it looked good, but it could
possibly be a bit dangerous.
Sean: That's, that's fair.
Scott: That's fair?
Sean: That's a fair comment.
Scott: Okay.
Rotem and Troy,
you created two feature
walls in here.
One for the TV and
one for the fireplace.
I think that's a huge bonus
because from every perspective
you can also enjoy the lake.
Bryan: One thing I really loved
were those rafters
that you put in.
The dark rafters make it look
like a 100 year-old villa
that's been brought back
to life here. I love that.
The detail of
the stairs as well.
There's some missed
cut pieces of trim,
short pieces of trim at the top
of the stairs, across the top,
That just looked like they
were kind of banged in there
last minute, in a rush.
That's a detraction for me.
Heather: The Mediterranean feel
definitely came through.
I was fooled by
the rocks in the--
Scott:--in the wall, yes.
Heather: I was completely
fooled and blown away by that.
I thought it was
really well done.
Troy: I'm very proud of my wife.
Rotem: Thank you.
Troy: She did a great job.
Scott: Unfortunately,
there can only be one winner.
