[Jerry] Not at all.

[lighter opens, clicks]

[John] Jerry Brudos. March 3rd.

We’d appreciate you being
as candid as possible.

We’re part of the new
Behavioral Sciences Division at the FBI.

We use interviews with men like yourself
to catch other serial K*llers.

Serial K*llers?
That’s what they call us now?

Agent Ressler here coined that term.

[Jerry laughs] Good for you!

What do you want, a g*dd*mn award
for thinking up a word?

[laughs]

So, gentlemen. [clears throat]

What can I do you for?

[sighs] There’s a serial k*ller
in the Pacific Northwest

whose murders are… sexual in nature.

All his victims are women, aged 17 to 25,
mostly college students,

some hitchhikers.

He tortures and r*pes his victims
before he murders them

and discards them in the woods,
often returning to the bodies

to continue violating them.

He also keeps trophies of his victims.

Does he keep their shoes?

-Not to our knowledge.
-[Jerry] 'Cause that’s what I did.

I mean, I k*lled and chopped up
every one of them wh*res,

but that’s not what I really wanted
when you get right down to it.

All's I wanted was the shoes.

So I could jizz in 'em. [exhales]

That was my MO.

No, this k*ller, um…

Well, the trophies
he keeps are body parts.

Oh, boring!

h* hum! I did that.

I mean, I chopped up my share of bodies
once I heard about

the fella in Wisconsin who did it.

Ed Gein.

Mm! Yeah! Ed Gein. [chuckles]

Started when I was young.

My mother… [exhales]

…caught me wearing
a pair of her high heels

and beat the living sh*t out of me.

[laughs]

[sighs loudly] So I'd jizz in her panties.

She'd see the stains and beat
the sh*t out of me all over again.

I’d sneak into
the neighborhood girl’s house,

steal her panties.

Smell 'em, wear 'em.

Clean or dirty.

I'd huff 'em.

[groans]

[laughs]

[inhales and groans]

It was the shoes
that really did it for me.

[inhales]

High heels, red…

I wouldn't stop till I'd filled them up.

Took me days on end
pumping those shoes full of jizz.

But you ever seen what that looks like?

A pair of high heels, fire engine red,

nine and a half narrow, four-inch heels,

and they're filled to the brim with jizz?

Just the front, obviously.

Because, uh, well,
the heel is higher, right?

And, like, at an angle.

Pumps you could fill almost the whole way.

You know, the whole shoe.

Toe and heel.

With the jizz.

That took longer though.

Jerry, if I told you I brought you
a pair of ladies’ shoes as a thank you,

think we could we talk about
something other than shoes?

You brought me a pair?
Are they in my size?

Oh, boy.

Oh, my.

Oh, my. Okay.

-Uh, can I try them on?
-Sure.

Oh.

Whoo.

[shakily] Oh, wow. Oh, wow, I'm…

I'm getting emotional.

[sobs softly]

Um… yeah, I don't think
I'll be able to concentrate with these on.

I might have to jerk off.

Do you guys mind if I jerk off?
I don't mind if you watch.

[piano music playing]

[Jerry] I chopped up my share of bodies
once I heard about the fella…

Did he really dance around in the shoes?

Mm-hm. Yes.

In retrospect, giving him a pair of shoes
was not a good idea.

Brudos is the right direction,
sexually motivated, deep hatred of women,

like the Pacific Northwest k*ller.

Here, though. He forgets the name,
but he mentions Ed Gein.

Yeah, they all do.

They admire his notoriety, they feel...

validated by him, vindicated even.

It’s like Ed Gein started the fan club
they’re getting letters from,

cartons of cigarettes,
pairs of panties, locks of hair.

Then why haven’t we talked to him?
About the Pacific Northwest k*ller?

I mean, of everyone,
he might have the best insight,

understand the psych profile...

Gein? [scoffs]

We tried. He said no.

Nah, that was three years ago.

And they changed his medication protocol,
he’s stable now.

-So do you think he would talk to us?
-[Robert] Hmm.

[recording playing in the background]

Can't hurt.

-[choral song playing]
-[Jerry laughing]

[people yelling faintly]

[birds chirping]

[indistinct yelling]

-Gotta be in his seventies.

[music continues]

[Ed] I didn't think there'd be a lady.

It's the 1970s, Mr. Gein,
the world is changing.

Please, call me Ed.

Ed.

How do you do?

So what is it you'd like to ask me?

-[door closes]
-[music stops]

[Robert] So, what's it like to be famous?

I don't know, it's nice to know
that folks are thinking about ya

and taking the time to say so.

I keep all the letters I get.

I reply to some.

Whittle them something,
or send 'em a piece of my leather work.

They don't mean anything though,
the letters.

They might to the people
who send them, but

they don't to me.

And why is that?

Well, all the prayers and the kind words.

They don't come from the people
I wish they came from.

Who is that?

Could I see the photos
of the man you're hunting?

What he did?

[eerie white noise playing]

[Ann] Are they arousing to you, Ed?

No.

Might have been.

When I was younger.

But… my parts don't work the same now.

[soft string music playing]

[Ed] Hm.

What?

I have something in common with him.

He's a loner, this man.

When you're alone too much,

your thoughts can make you
want to do things.

I spent too much time alone
in that house after Mother died.

The neighbors would pester me, but…

No family to speak of.

All's you got is time to think.

I mean, I dug some people up.

There's no doubt about that.
I remember doing it.

And I accept that that's wrong.

Or, like, people believe
you shouldn't do that.

Let the body rest.

I accept that.

I was just searching for my mother.

-[emotional clarinet music playing]
-She's left me now.

She left me entirely.

Hey.

This guy…

He keeps trophies of the women he kills.

What kind of trophies? Body parts?

Heads. He removes their heads.

Hm.

-That's a lot of work.
-[music turns eerie]

It's real messy.

Hard to get a skull off a neck.

I tried all manner of saws.

Chainsaw's too messy.

Wood saw, it'll get stuck.

I find the best way to cut off a head,
and God as my witness, it's the truth,

is a hacksaw
with a high-speed steel blade.

Fine-toothed.
Tooth per inch is what they call it, TPI.

You need a high tooth per inch.

Hand saw won't work.

Jab saw don't feel right
cutting up a body.

No, you want a hacksaw
with a super fine grade.

TPI of 30 or more
gives you a nice, clean cut.

Stanley makes a nice one.

It's much better.

If I were you, I'd be looking into folks
that are buying saws like that.

You mark my words, he'll be buying one.

I'm tired.

Might need to get some rest.

I don't know if I've been any help to you.
