They were last seen 20 minutes ago.

investigator to search for this child.

at the end of the road.

The neighbor's got pit bulls.

[woman] He's super small,
so he could be anywhere.

A three-year-old white male.

His name's Bentley.
He has shorts on and boots.

It's getting really cold, getting dark.
That's definitely a concern.

[officer] Behind the house, there's water
and a bunch of creeks that run off of it.

[Rains] What's the distance
between that water and the house?

-About a half a mile.
-[Rains] So something he could do. Yeah?

I'll go talk to Mom.

Y'all search the woods

He's a former college student,
and he's missing from his apartment.

It's completely out of character.
His mother's worried sick.

I have a really bad feeling
about this one.

Hi, Ms. Duncan. This is Sergeant Rains
with Richland County Sheriff's Department.

[LaTanza] Hey, Sergeant Rains,
how are you?

Doing good. I'm just calling to see if,
by any chance, you've heard from Morgan.

I have the missing person report.

No. We're still worried about him.

[Rains] It says that you haven't seen him
since Thanksgiving.

So you saw him Thanksgiving Day,
but not after?

[LaTanza] I wanna say it's been seven days
since we've talked to or heard from him.

And that's very unusual? He doesn't
usually go without talking to you?

Never.

[Rains] Does he talk to you every day?

[LaTanza] Every day.
Three, four times a day.

He may not have post, but he would have
at least been active on social media.

And nothing happened to cause this…

Like, he didn't say, "Hey, I'm upset
about this…" or anything like that?

[LaTanza] No, but… he's schizophrenic.

[Rains] Okay.

[phone dialing]

[Jackson] Hey, Vicki.

[Rains] Hey, I was just
going to let you know

his mom hasn't spoken to him
since a couple days after Thanksgiving.

[Jackson] That's over a week ago.

[Rains] And apparently,
he's schizophrenic.

[Jackson] That doesn't sound good.

[Rains] So I'm headed out
to the apartment complex now.

I spoke to Investigator Ruiz,
and he's going to meet me out there.

[Jackson] Okay, check back in
when you have more.

[Rains] I'll keep you updated,
whatever we find out.

[Rains] Doesn't look like
anything's packed.

[camera clicks]

Gosh, we need to make sure
he's not under these clothes.

God forbid. I've had that happen before.

[Ruiz] Sarge. There is a phone right here.

[Rains] That looks like medicine.

[Ruiz] And a wallet.

Driver license.

[Ruiz] So he didn't take anything.

[woman] I was thinking about him yesterday
and I'm like, "I haven't seen him."

Unusual, because I used to
see him every day.

You know, and I'll run out and call him.

Tell him come,
I might have something for him.

But I haven't seen him since Thanksgiving.

That's what we were gonna ask.

We have a missing person report on him.
So we're trying to find him.

Do you know if he has problems
with anybody or anything?

[Cynthia] Not to my knowledge.
He always was real cool to me.

I mean, he always respect me,
take my trash out, or…

-[Rains] Aw.
-You know, and he'll come past,

And most of the time, I do.

-And I just haven't seen him.

I can tell you,
the day before he went missing,

I was walking from Springtree,
and he was crossing the street.

He was by himself.

He normally hailed me like that.
"Hey, ma'am."

But he didn't hail me that day.

[foreboding music playing]

[man] Morgan is always smiling.
If no one else is smiling, he's smiling.

Bubbly.

…always got something
funny to say, cracking jokes.

If he saw somebody carrying a bag
that was too heavy, you know,

he-he-he's going to go over there
and grab it and help them, you know?

He was brought up
with good morals… morals, you could tell.

I have to keep reminding him,
"Don't call me 'ma'am,'

-that makes me feel old."

But then just before Thanksgiving,
it was like something was off.

Something wasn't right with Morgan.

He just kind of… he wasn't
out and about as much as he usually was.

Seemed like he was just…

-More reclusive.
-…staying home.

And then Thanksgiving gets here,
and Morgan's gone.

-[Rains] Hello.

He was a very good guy.

he would definitely give it to you.

I mean, I don't know
where he might have been. Um…

I mean, I think he's still fine,

but it's not normal for him
to be gone for this long.

And honestly, I wouldn't know
who would he… would be with.

She was so overly friendly.

Like, no one walks up to the police
and talks to them.

But the weirdest part is,
she talked about him in the past tense.

[Rains] This is Morgan.

He posts videos of himself
rapping on Facebook.

But he hasn't posted anything
for over a week.

Okay.

Have you told his mom
what you found in his apartment yet?

[phone line ringing]

[LaTanza on phone] It's LaTanza.

This is Sergeant Rains.
So we went out to his apartment.

And his wallet's there.
His cell phone is there. His medication.

So that's really odd.

[LaTanza] That's unusual.

He carried that stuff with him
every place he goes.

And he's overdue for his medicine

that keeps him from being psychotic.

[Rains] Oh gosh.

[LaTanza] A nonprofit organization
that helps young people

-who have mental health illness…

…helped him get
that apartment over in Springtree.

-A lot of their clients live over there.

According to the nonprofit,

and they know Morgan,

he's disappeared.

I'm trying not to stress out.

'Cause this is so unlike him
not to call me.

[reporter] Deputies continue
their search now for a missing man.

He's 27-year-old Morgan Duncan.
He was last seen at his home

on the 200 block of Springtree Drive
in Columbia.

This was back on Tuesday, November 28th.

Authorities say he is in need
of his prescribed medications…

[man] Like the saying, so-and-so will take
the clothes off of their back for you.

Morgan's really that type of guy.

I remember in high school,
I purchased some clothes from him

because he had some really nice clothes.
And I didn't, kind of…

I couldn't afford
to get clothes from the store.

I bought $100 worth of clothes from him.

And he lost the $100 bill
that same afternoon.

I didn't know this, though.

The next day, he came back and brought
another bag of clothes in addition.

And that's when he told me
that he'd lost the $100 bill.

So that really kind of sunk into me.

I was like, "Wow. Even though this guy had
lost the whole $100 that I just gave him,

he was still kind enough
to bring me more clothes the next day."

But I think some things
were a little off sometimes.

Some days, he used to come to school,
and he was just not put together,

if you catch what I'm saying.

Um, stressed out,
you can just see the stress.

I would see him post often on social media
of him just standing in downtown Columbia.

And I know that if you're standing
downtown Columbia at 1 p.m., 2 p.m.,

with just nothing else to do,
something doesn't look right.

I'm like, "Wait a second.
What is he doing down there?"

[tense music playing]

[Rains] We'll just start at the beginning.
Our missing person is Morgan Duncan.

He is a 27-year-old Bravo Mike.

The complainant, LaTanza Duncan,

hasn't physically seen her son
since she saw him on Thanksgiving.

In Morgan's apartment,

we locate his wallet, cell phone,
his schizophrenia medicine.

And according to Morgan's mother,
he relies very heavily on those drugs.

So that's a red flag.

We spoke to many people
at the apartment complex.

He takes out their trash.

They talk to him,
they give him food, they make him coffee.

None of them have seen or heard from him.

He's had contact with no one.

But while we're there,

a mixed female and a Hispanic male
just walk up and start talking to us.

She tells us that she's homeless,
and that's her boyfriend,

and that's his vehicle,
and they live in there together.

She seems very forthcoming,
but it was really odd.

[Jackson] Okay.

[Rains] So we ran her boyfriend's vehicle
and tags. They came back clear.

Springtree is pretty much
surrounded by woods,

so we'll need to search that area.

[tense music playing]

If Morgan is off his meds,
he could be hiding out.

[engine roars]

Beyond the woods is an abandoned theater.

We need to rule that out also.

But watch your back inside the theater.

It's known for drug use
and criminal activity.

They have a fire pit and a tarp.

And then there's wrappers,
like, from food and everything.

And it's cleared. You can see they cut it.

He could be out here
because he's off his meds,

and maybe he's just, you know,
a little confused and stuff.

But if Morgan was here… he's long gone.

Hi, this is Sergeant Rains

-I spoke to Morgan Duncan's mother.
-Yes.

She said you may be able to help us
with this missing person case.

[woman] Um,
can I close my door real quick?

-Absolutely.

-Are you there?

So I don't know where exactly
you want me to start.

Um… We haven't seen Morgan.

-So last week, I requested welfare checks.
-Mm-hmm.

And so an officer came out with me,
and we looked in the unit.

He wasn't there.

It's really strange nobody has seen him.

And his phone is going
straight to voicemail.

[Rains] Right.

So I've been worried about

what's going on out there
with all these clients.

We suspect that they might be
kind of preyed upon.

Some people out there, they just
kind of took over a client's apartment.

-She said she was in one of the units.

Some guys walked in

and said they were staying there now.

And she'd never met them before.

They just beat her.

-She was terrified of them.

The deputy told us to get the client into
Sistercare to get her away from there.

-The mom doesn't know all this.

I mean, they're going
among a lot of different clients.

And they're too scared to do anything?

Yeah, they're very scared of them.

the same thing to Morgan?

I don't know.

But I am worried about him.

There's something going on out there.

I don't know if that has to do
with why Morgan's missing.

The vibe is just completely off.

The nonprofit are telling us that
their clients are reporting people

coming to their door,
forcing their way in their apartment.

And they're scared
because these people are violent.

Seems like some vulnerable people being
taken advantage of in this situation.

[Jackson] It's just so weird. I haven't
heard of, like, a whole apartment complex

being part of this kind of weird stuff.

[Rains] Right, just getting taken over.

So did somebody take over his apartment?

We need to speak to their clients
making these reports

because that might lead us to Morgan.

about Morgan's disappearance?

he disappeared until now.

has been trying to gather information.

or something operating out there.

She actually was given a name,
the name Jersey.

He is known to force his way into
other residents that live at Springtree

and kind of take over
and is very a*usive to them.

He is beating them.

Our victim… Jersey was in his apartment.

Right now, he is definitely our suspect
or at least a person of interest.

So the name Jersey,
it's going to be an alias.

into who Jersey actually is,

and if he has a criminal history
or anything like that.

I just got done interviewing
one of the clients at that nonprofit.

interview somebody named James Kelly.

She made it sound like
it was kind of important.

that lives across from Morgan.

There was some guys in the apartment
that were standing right behind him

listening to what he was saying.

I can't say if it was
or was not Jersey in his apartment.

But if it was,
maybe he can lead us to Morgan.

[Rains] Where they're coming in
and preying on all of these people.

his real name is Altariq Cuffie.

He's a convicted felon.

He has a really lengthy criminal history.

-It's about 30 pages long.

drug dealing, resisting arrest, escape.

He's got convictions
across multiple different states,

and his big one is
an attempted m*rder charge.

Wow. I don't know
if it was Jersey in his apartment,

but if it is, he knew we saw him.

So we need to hit
James' address right now.

I'm just thinking this could be a lot
bigger than what we're thinking it is.

which is James Kelly's apartment.

When we visited James,
he wouldn't let us in.

He was very nervous, and there was
two unidentified males in the background.

We suspect one of them could be Jersey.

And witnesses say he's armed.

to put him in facilities.

Like, it was 3,000 a month.
And that was more than my mortgage.

from somebody and we're gonna find him.

and I came across this guy, Easy Greene.

When is the last time you saw Morgan?

[man] Like three weeks ago.

His routine was
come over there in the morning,

get some coffee, get a cigarette.

Stay for an hour or two, then

he'd go, but he'd be like,
"I'm tired. I'm going back home."

Because he was on the medicine.

We been looking for him because
we was worried about him after a week.

[Greene] I really don't know.

Thing about Morgan, he always on Facebook.

That was probably
like a month ago, though.

[Rains] Well, Easy and Morgan
seem to be good friends.

He knows a lot about Morgan's movements.

no one's seen Jersey
since Morgan disappeared.

It all keeps coming back
to the same suspect.

[Rains] Jersey.

It's Narcotics.

[man] I guess you want a little more
information about the Altariq guy,

I guess he's related to,
like, a missing persons now?

Yeah, so you know how
he's also known as Jersey?

[man] Mm-hmm.

[Rains] His name keeps coming up
in a case that we're working.

Jersey was in his apartment
a couple times,

and he was seen
walking around with Jersey,

so that's the last known person
to see him alive.

[man] Mm-hmm.

[Rains] All of the witnesses are saying
that Jersey's very violent.

We know he's affiliated with
some drug dealings out of Springtree,

which is where our missing person case is.

So I was trying to figure out
if you guys know anything about him.

[man] He's connected to one of the other
targets that we're investigating.

A big guy in South Carolina
that's selling a lot of drugs.

I mean, we're trying to find this guy,
but we obviously don't want to

talk to somebody and mess up something
that you guys are already working.

I don't see why not.

It's plausible that he's related
to the missing persons,

and there's only one way to find out.

[Rains] Okay, so this is what we have.

After speaking with multiple people.

We have learned that Morgan
owed several drug dealers money,

but one name that
continues to surface is Jersey.

Narcotics is familiar with him.
He's connected to high-level dealers.

He's violent and he's
the last person seen with Morgan.

And since Morgan disappeared,
Jersey hasn't been seen.

So I think the best plan of action is
we head back out to Springtree

and start searching the addresses
that are linked to the victims.

And try to find anything
that links to Jersey.
