02x03 - Beneath the Water

Post by bunniefuu »

[gasping frantically]

[screaming]

God!

Oh, my God!

[man] Aline, Aline!

[unzipping]

[screaming]

[Eli] I'm Eli Roth.

I've spent my life telling

horror stories,

but imagine if those stories

were real.

And suddenly, you found

yourself stalked and tormented

by an evil spirit

and no one believed you.

I wasn't going insane.

It makes you feel helpless.

It was terrifying.

These are the actual

tales of terror,

as told by you, the victim,

who came face to face with

their demons and survived.

[Aline] I never imagined

that something like that

Never.

It's something that I don't

wish upon my worst enemy.

I don't.

[Aline] I know I made a mistake,

but I don't wanna cry.

I'll try not to.

I just want you guys

to know the whole truth.

I'm from Rio de Janeiro.

I used to work at a front desk

in a hotel, and

John was visiting,

and that's how we met.

Well, I had this person

who treats me well,

showed me the world,

and just loves me.

So, he proposed.

You know, we had

a beautiful wedding.

But then other stuff

started happening.

Like experiences

I was having at first.

And stuff

that you just can't shake.

[John] Welcome home.

[Aline] I love it!

- [John] Yeah?

[Aline] Yes.

- [John] It's yours! Ours.

At first,

it was like a fairytale.

[John] Oh, crap!

Oh, okay, I'm sorry.

This never happens to me. - [Aline giggling]

I swear. - Is this your

attempt to impress me

if this is you trying

to impress me?

[John] Is it working?

Do you love me now?

Ow!

Gah, okay.

- [Aline giggling]

[John] It's gonna be crispy,

but good.

[John] I promise.

- [Aline] Yeah.

You keep promising me things.

[John] I'm sorry,

this is really bad.

But, um, can I make

it up to you tomorrow?

There's this

Italian restaurant that makes

the best Penne alla Vodka,

pretty much any pasta.

It's been my favorite

for years, really.

But, uh, if you wanna do

something else during the day

Everything okay?

Yeah.

So

[John] Yeah, so tomorrow night.

I'll take you, okay?

Besides my husband,

I didn't have any other friends.

He is a professional,

so he leaves early in the morning,

and he goes to work.

So, I'm by myself in the house.

Where I live, it was like,

over two miles off the main road.

We don't have neighbors,

we don't have nothing.

So, it was very lonely

at first, you know?

[quietly] Hi.

[quietly] It's early.

It's a long commute.

[quietly] I'm sorry, gotta go.

Call you later.

[kissing]

I mean, I have six brothers,

you know, and three sisters.

It's a lot of people, you

know, and I'm used to them.

When you don't have your family,

and the language,

and everything, you know,

made me feel even more alone.

So, it was that was hard.

You take things for granted,

and then you don't have them anymore,

and you just gotta be strong.

It's a big difference for

somebody to move all the way here,

but that was my life.

Just take care of myself,

and because I was pretty much by myself.

You know, my husband,

he would work like that a lot.

Through the whole weeks, so, you

know, I felt very alone, you know?

At first, you know?

But he was chasing that dream.

[insects buzzing]

[leaves rustling]

[leaves rustling louder]

[air whooshing]

[air whooshing louder]

[Aline] When I first moved

to the house,

that house, for some reason,

there was something.

[door creaking]

[whispering]

[door creaking]

- [Aline gasping]

John?

John?

[screaming] Ah!

[phone ringing]

Hello?

Where are you?

No, I

I'm good, I

I slept in. Yeah.

Okay, okay. Love you too, bye.

I see this tall shadow figure.

It was one of those moments,

like, it was a split-second.

It was like,

that kind of thing that,

it just happened,

like it made no sense.

I'm hearing, like

[Aline mimicking whispering]

Just, like,

sh, sh, sh whispering!

Like, more than once.

And I used to be like,

"Oh, my goodness,

am I going crazy?

What's this?"

And there was nothing.

Nothing.

It's been hard out here.

I'm used to life

in the busy city,

and being out here feels so

I mean, I guess it'll get better once

I get a job or something else to do.

He wants kids right away, but

I'm not ready for that,

you know?

Mama?

Oi, Mama

There was a presence

in this house.

I just don't know what it was.

I felt there was somebody

watching me.

I started, kind of,

like putting two plus two together

that this is maybe paranormal.

[whispering in background]

That house sometimes

would give me heebie-jeebies.

There was a presence that made

you uncomfortable in that house.

I felt watched,

like somebody was just watching you.

You would just feel this,

like, you know,

like this presence, and I

remember, like a few times,

just, like, I would look outside

to see if there was anything there.

And there was nothing.

I just, thought

that was gonna go away.

I never thought it was gonna

get worse the way it did.

I thought that was it,

I thought that was just a weird house.

I didn't know what it was.

I thought when I used

the Ouija board,

I thought that I would

get some answers.

[reading quietly] "Always place a

silver item on the board to repel evil."

[reading] "Never use

the board alone."

Is anyone here?

What do you want?

If you're here,

manifest yourself.

I just try one,

two, three questions.

[clattering]

I didn't know that my situation

was gonna get much worse.

[Aline] What time did you come

home last night?

[John] Late.

Too late.

Is it always gonna be like this?

[John] No, no.

I have a lot to catch up on.

Vacation's over, remember?

How about the honeymoon?

We can play hockey.

[laughing] Hooky.

- [John] Hooky.

[Aline] How do you hooky.

- Yeah, yeah.

Hockey's the one with sticks on ice, yeah.

- [Aline] Mmm-hmm.

[kissing]

[John] Mmm, very, very tempting.

But I can't.

Are you sure you really can't?

[John chuckling] I really,

really can't.

There's coffee

on the nightstand.

Bye.

[typing]

So, you can play hooky.

[screaming] Ah!

[Aline] He was just touching me.

I just thought

it was my husband.

It wasn't him,

but it's happening.

It's happening,

I can feel the muscles,

I can feel the touch,

like holding me.

So, I just kept to myself.

I didn't tell my husband, I didn't want to

be laughed at right in my face, you know?

I didn't want him thinking

that I was crazy.

I think for dinner

Yeah?

I should make something,

because I don't want us to

burn our kitchen.

So, you think I'm dangerous,

do you?

I know you're dangerous.

Mmm, maybe I like to be dangerous.

- [Aline giggling]

[whispering] Leave

me alone.

[John] Something wrong?

[Aline] No.

[John] Are you okay?

I'm gonna go to my office, okay?

Yeah.

[rustling]

When I had weird experiences,

my mind was trying to reason out that.

There wasn't any good approaching

him about those kind of things.

It made me so uncomfortable.

Nothing was happening

to my husband, uh, John.

He was oblivious to everything.

I think I just wanna understand,

like, get some answers.

What is it? Like

You know, what is it?

Like, what's going on?

Why are you here?

What Who are you?

And, uh

That was a mistake.

[whispering] John

John, wake up.

John

- [John mumbling] Huh?

[floorboard creaking]

[floorboard creaking]

[creaking]

[Aline] Oh, my God.

- What are you doing?

[Aline] Uh, nothing.

Are you okay?

Yes.

[kissing]

Come back to bed, okay?

[screaming]

[John] What What is it?

What's wrong?

[breathing heavily]

What is it?

Hey, hey, hey. It's okay.

It's just a nightmare.

[quietly] It's all right,

it's it's just a dream.

There's nothing here.

Oh, my God, you scared me.

I was completely terrified.

Then, I started realizing

that obviously, you know,

this is paranormal.

Obviously this is more

than I can chew.

This is not a ghost.

This is something powerful.

So I remember just going there on my

desktop computer and looking it up.

I didn't even know what

to search for.

[typing]

I typed something like,

"Humans and spirits

touching me."

I start reading and I was like,

"Everything matches.

This is what I got in my house."

I opened the door for it.

I regret using

the Ouija board very much.

It was a strong incubus.

I was, like, terrified.

I've never been scared of

anything like that in my life.

It's pure evil.

Pure evil,

and seductive and evil.

They will use you,

sap out your energy off you,

and eventually,

their sole purpose is to destroy you.

[shakily] Leave me

alone.

[determined] Leave me alone.

I said leave me alone!

[screaming]

[panting]

[Aline] I think you gotta be respectful

of things you don't understand.

And I think I was

respectful somewhat,

but at the same time,

I should have been more cautious.

I became more forceful.

It was getting more

aggressive with me.

It was saying,

"You don't tell me 'no'.

You don't say 'no',

you don't tell me 'no'."

[door opening]

[John] So, I was thinking

that maybe

[smacking lips]

you and I go out of town

this weekend.

What do you think?

Um

What is it?

I gathered the strength

to go tell him

that those things

were happening.

John did not wanna talk

about none of that.

So he would just shut down.

This is ridiculous.

Are you hearing yourself

right now?

I mean, is this some kind

of Brazilian superstition?

No No.

It has nothing to do with it.

There's just something

in the house

and it's trying to

Aren't you happy here?

Do you regret marrying me?

- No!

Do you regret coming here?

I mean

There's just something

in the house!

And it's just trying

- And what?

And what? It wants you?

[John scoffs]

Are you trying

to make me jealous?

Shut up!

- Fine.

[scoffs] Fine.

[glass smashing]

I

Are you nuts?

I [stammering]

I believe he could be

jealous of him,

could do him harm.

He was so possessive of me,

he felt, like, lonely.

That's the feeling that, like,

"I own you. You're mine."

Everything started

going downhill.

It was taking a toll

in our relationship.

We grew distant.

He went from being

my best friend,

so I feel completely alone.

There was no, like,

having my back.

I was on my own.

I could not tell my family,

you know, it's very much

Christian Evangelical.

Like, they would just

shut you down, basically,

like, it's a big no-no.

Yes. Maybe.

[sighing]

Yes.

I will try to take a nap.

Love you, too.

Obrigada mamãe.

[sighing]

[exclaiming]

[gasping, straining]

[screaming]

John!

John! John!

[John] Aline!

- [Aline cries out]

[gasping]

[screaming]

[screaming subsides]

[panting]

[creaking]

[floorboards creaking]

[woman's voice] Help me.

[whimpering]

[labored breathing]

[distant choking, sobbing]

[whimpering]

[choking, whimpering]

[creaking]

[creaking]

[rasping] You are mine.

[breathing heavily]

[screaming]

[screaming, struggling]

[panting]

[Aline] Sometimes

a few scares

But there were a few instances

in my life that I've seen stuff

and I was scared.

Like, your hair raise up like,

of course, that entity

I wouldn't tell anyone,

so I was so used to people

just disregard that,

didn't wanna hear

And still to this day,

you can't tell everybody

that kinda stuff, you know?

I hope never you have

to go through

what I've been through.

I could see myself clearly

inside of a body bag.

And I was just dead.

That terrified me.

I didn't feel that nothing

was salvageable at that point,

you know, not even

the marriage, you know.

I felt hopeless.

Who's gonna help me?

I remember just looking

in the mirror and just crying,

like, tears rolling

down my face.

And thinking, like,

the sense of desperation

of just, I would look in a

mirror and just cry my eyes out.

[John] Hey.

[sniffling]

[sighing]

Hey.

I'm sorry.

[sobbing]

I'm really sorry.

[softly] Hey, hey, hey,

for what?

It's okay, it's okay.

I love you.

I really do.

I know.

Remember, I'll always be here.

[sniffling]

[sinister music playing]

[distorted whisper]

You're mine.

[choking]

[gasping]

[panting heavily]

[John] Hey.

- [sighing]

Hey. [sniffling]

[sobbing] I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry.

Hey, hey, hey, for what?

It's okay.

I'll always be here.

[unsettling music]

Didn't you just say that?

Say what?

Um

Let's just go. Let's leave.

[hesitating] What are you

talking about?

Let's leave.

Let's drive

on the weekend. Yes?

Okay.

- Yes. Okay.

Let's go. Let's go.

- Perfect.

[woman speaking

quietly over radio]

[gasping]

[breathing heavily]

[engine accelerating]

[whimpering]

[whimpering]

[honking]

[glass breaking]

[turn signal ticking]

[exclaiming]

[screaming]

[screaming, sobbing]

[whimpering]

[grunting, sobbing]

[whimpering]

[car honking]

[John] Watch out!

- [car speeding past]

[panting]

- What are you doing?

You trying to k*ll us?

- I'm sorry. I'm sorry, no.

A car is a weapon, isn't it?

It was like,

"Do it, do it, do it.

give all the gas.

And just go "boom."

I don't wanna cry

I was like a little fly

on a web, you know.

Like a fly caught in a web.

You know how hopeless it is,

waiting for the spider to come

and just come and just end you.

And that was that thing.

It had me, like, in his web.

My mom always

used to tell me, like,

to fight for my marriage.

I didn't feel that nothing

was salvageable at that point.

I was, like, that out of hope.

I'm about to just give up.

I'll be back in a week.

Then maybe we can work it out.

[sighing]

I want to work it out.

I know.

He was completely, like,

a skeptical, like,

if somebody's

100 percent skeptical.

And I think that's why

I kinda at first,

I wanted to capture evidence,

to show him also.

It wasn't just curiosity,

it was me wanting evidence

to say, "Hey, look,

I'm not crazy."

But you know the story.

[chuckling]

It was taking a toll

in our relationship.

We grew distant.

He went from being

my best friend and

You know, at this point,

these things

are happening to me,

I cannot even tell him

that this is happening to me.

So I feel completely alone.

He didn't understand.

Couldn't relate, you know,

what I was going through.

So I became unhappy,

miserable, like

miserable, unhappy.

And he couldn't understand.

I couldn't explain.

There was no communication.

And I felt hopeless.

Who is gonna help me?

I didn't have support,

moral support,

to face this

and go get through this.

And that was the end.

So, I knew I needed

a miracle, you know.

I knew I needed,

like, a miracle.

That day, the gloves were off.

I had to end this.

I wasn't gonna let it

have my soul.

[sobbing]

[crying]

[crying continues]

[reciting in foreign language]

[crying continues]

[Priest reciting in Latin]

[reciting continues]

[breathing heavily]

[screaming]

- [priest chanting in Latin]

Let me go!

He's here!

Let me go! Help me!

Let me go, he's here!

[chanting continues]

- [screaming] He's here!

He's here! Please, let me go!

Leave this house!

[Aline] Let me go! He's here!

Please!

- [priest] Leave this woman alone.

- Please! - Protect us

from this evil. - Please!

[terrified screaming]

Jesus, our savior,

protect us from this evil!

Please!

[screaming]

[whimpering, panting]

[terrified panting]

[whimpering]

[screaming]

[incubus screaming]

[incubus and Aline screaming]

[screeching]

[inhuman growling]

In the name of Jesus Christ,

leave me alone!

In the name of Jesus Christ,

leave!

[panting]

It wasn't gonna hurt me anymore.

He wasn't gonna succeed

with his plans.

But, like, I don't live

in fear because I have faith,

you know, I don't live in fear

because I have faith.

But I do know that that day

was the day that I was like

Enough.

My plans were to grow old

with him, you know?

He was like my best friend.

He was like this person that

just had so much love for me.

And I had that love for him,

I mean, I still do, you know?

It just didn't happen.

Ma'am, should I take your bag?

[Aline] Yeah, thank you.

- All right.

I wonder, sometimes, why me?

Why did that happen

to me, you know?

And I heard one time the saying

that the Devil is

the best psychologist,

that he studies us.

That thing, for some reason,

attacked me

and stirred me, you know.

It knew I was vulnerable

at the most vulnerable time,

feeling alone.

To this day,

it's one of the few things

that I, you know,

I'm not gonna say I live in terror,

but I'm scared, yeah.

It's like, by the Lord's mercy

that please don't let it

come back because

how do you fight

something like that?

Yeah, this one here

was my Psalm back then

when that was happening to me.

It was Psalm 9:1.

[reading]

[voice breaking]

You know, this is not

just a book.

When you open it, it's alive.

It's alive, you know.

And that's what I knew

growing up.

And I forgot, you know.

But it's true.

These words

This is not just a book.

There are many books out there.

That is a book that

when you open it,

those words are alive

and they're powerful.

[Eli Roth reading]
