01x04 - No One I Think Is In My Tree

Post by bunniefuu »

Hello.

And welcome to another episode

of Circuit's Nebula-75!

Despite this production being made
during lockdown

in a small flat in London,

we have been delighted to receive

so many letters from our fans,

the majority of which
are full of praise

for my peerless performance.

Many have also written

to ask us if we know

how far away 33

million miles really is.

As a result, we have done all

the necessary computations

and calculate that 33 million miles

is minimum distance you have to go

to miss the point!

♫ Nebula-75 theme ♫

Gee, what a long shift.

Guess I'll file my report
and go and have a lay down.

An hour to myself at last!

Right!

Well, here's hoping
nobody needs me.

Ah! I need to replace the corroded
Isoranium Fuses in engine room 3.

Oh, I should get the go-ahead from
Commander Neptune first.

This is quite the problem.

Guess I'll have to
ask the commander.

New data. Course
correction required.

I will ask Commander Neptune.

Boy, I hope that's
the last of them.

I guess it's true what they say.
There's no rest for the wicked...

Though I'd settle for
just being imperfect, I guess.

Now, what to do
with a five minute rest period...

Ah! Commander! Another
thing about the Isorani...

Look, Doc. Tell me – is it
a matter of life and death?

Oh, well, er... I...

I suppose not, Commander.

Then could you please explain to me why you
are interrupting my break once again?

This is about the only room on the
ship I can find any peace and quiet!

But not today it seems!

Oh, well, yes. Er,

entschuldigung.
I'll leave you alone.

No, Doc. I'm sor...

-ry

Well now I feel bad.

Perhaps wicked rather
than imperfect after all.

I just wish they could
manage without me...

just for an hour!

Millions of miles from home, in the

loneliest part of the
universe, and sometimes

I think that it's more lonely
being surrounded by people.

Two minutes to go then I guess I'd better
start my next tour of the ship.

Boy. Two whole minutes.

Of course!

Emergency! Emergency!

Neptune to Circuit.
Do you read me?

Emergency! Emergency!

What's the situation?

We have an emergency.

Yes... I'd gathered that much.

Can you tell me the
nature of the emergency?

Yes.

I wonder if the Doc. put that
replacement valve in the right way up...

Explain to me what's happening.

There is a spatial
disturbance ahead.

What sort of spatial
disturbance? Out with it, Man!

Insufficient data.

Well, can you see it?

Negative!

Well, it can't be
anything too serious.

Ah, Commander.
I know you said not to,

Oh, let's forget about
that Doc. I was...

I was being testy.

Whaddya make of this
space disturbance?

I have no idea, Commander,

but I would advise staying well
clear until we have more information.

Okay. You'd better get up here fast.
We'll take evasive action!

Effect negative.

Spatial disturbance now

enveloping Nebula-75.

I can't see anything there...

Come on Neptune, think...

think.

What... what happened?

Strange.

Come in Circuit.

Er, Lieutenant Mercury?

Come in Lieutenant.

Doctor Asteroid? Is everything
Seven-Five?

What is happening?

Who's that?

- Where am I?
- Where you have always been,

Commander Neptune.

Hello?

Hello?

Is anybody there?

Fine.

Commander Neptune, are you okay?

Ray,

is everything Seven-Five?

I imagine you
have some questions.

Where is everyone?

Where you left them.

I... I...

I don't understand.

You, the great Commander Neptune?
You don't understand?

I need to get back to the ship.

What's that? Speak up!

Return to your ship?

What makes you think your
crew will need you?

I will lead my crew out of
here and we will defeat you!

My my... is that your sense of
self importance talking?

Well...

Why would your crew need you?

A man who cannot spare
them an hour of his time.

What do you mean?

See! See for yourself
how they will miss you.

Look into your mind...

You know, I thought we were doomed
without Commander Neptune

here to save us.

That was a close call.

For this crew? Nah.

Ganz richtig mein Freund.

Of course, I shall miss him, a little,

but life goes on! This
calls for a celebration!

Anyone for Solar Supremes?

Wunderbar!

I... I...

that seems...

The truth is often strange

This is how they are without me?

Rejoice! Isn't that what
you always wanted?

No!

Really?

Didn't you tell Doctor
Asteroid to leave you alone?

Well, ah...

Precisely!

You failed your
crew, Commander!

I guess I did.

What was that?

The ship is under
enormous external stress,

but I don't understand why.

There seems to be no pattern.

Have you contacted the commander?

Nein. I can't get access to his
room and there is no response.

But the commander's
door is always open.

Er, yes.

Gee, it must be serious.
How about Circuit?

The same! The bridge is
completely sealed off!

This is nice!

This is hell!

Was it not you who wondered

if it is lonelier with
company than without?

Now, wonder no longer,

you have an eternity
ahead of you to find out!

The crew...

they will survive this.

They've got to!

That's all that matters.

Oh, they'll flourish, Commander.

Now that you've abandoned them.

Power draining.

Systems critical.

No! I haven't abandoned them!

And I will lead them to defeat you.

Systems restored.

Lead them to defeat me?

Living really is easy
with your eyes closed.

You only hold them back!

Look!

Attention crew.

This is Commander Asteroid speaking.

Now that Ray Neptune is gone, I have
devised a new plan,

and as you will see from your windows

we have finally returned home.

Home?

To Earth?

How long have I been gone?

Oh, no time at all.

It did't take them long to adapt
without you holding them back.

After all,

it was your negligence that hurled
them into the depths of space.

Was it me?

Were my decisions harming
them all along?

Get down to the engine room, Lieutenant,
and see what you can do to help.

Okay, Seven-Five.

Athena!

Can it be you?

I am returned!

We need your help!

Commander Neptune has vanished!

And so has Circuit!
And we are in trouble and...

The situation is known
to me already, Doctor.

And we haven't much time.

You know what is happening?

Of course.

You are in negative space.

A pocket of the universe
where evil is good

and good is evil.

Where are Commander
Neptune and Circuit?

We need them!

They are still here. But
lost in their own minds.

Minds? But Circuit is a robot!

So we are being directly damaged by
Commander Neptune's negative thoughts?

He is destined for greatness.

And a person destined for greatness has many
doubts about how best to serve his friends.

This force feeds on those doubts
and converts them into energy.

It will benefit many malevolent entities
to have you all out of the way.

All of us? Why all of us?

You all have your parts to play.

You, Lieutenant Mercury, inspired
by your great test pilot ancestor

to push the boundaries
of human endeavour.

And you, Doctor Asteroid,

the great man of science who shall
one day learn to trust his own judgement.

I shall attempt to break through to
Commander Neptune,

and you must prepare
to save the ship.

As soon as he returns and
this menace is vanquished,

this pocket of space
will close around you.

How long have I been here?

How long does a dream last?

Say, what's that?

It is nothing!

Is that Circuit?

It's your imagination!

My imagination?

He seems so...

happy.

We're fighting a losing
battle here, Doc.

Any bright ideas?

I just don't know.

I have checked the system readings as
we passed through the spatial disturbance.

If we reverse those readings we
might be able to break back out...

but if my calculations are
incorrect, it might destroy the ship.

We're not far off that now, Doc!

Athena!
Is that you?

No!

It is your imagination!

You are seeing what you want to see!

I am not your imagination.

I, like Circuit, am real.

But this force is exploiting your
imagination to harm those you care about.

Remember, imagination can be
imprisonment or freedom,

set yourself free!

Be gone! Leave!

You must...

Good riddance.

She was real...

Circuit is real...

exploiting my imagination...

Silence!

That's why Circuit is happy?
He has no imagination!

No dark thoughts to exploit.

Stop! The Nebula-75
is doomed without

its Commander and its
resourceful robot.

Thank you.

My crew will be fine.
I have no doubts anymore.

It is too late! Your ship is
on the verge of collapse.

There will always be an element
of doubt in your mind...

and that's enough to drive
my plan to fruition.

You are human, there
will always be doubts.

You and your crew will be
destroyed and evil shall triumph!

No! I refuse to contemplate that.

You underestimate my crew.
And so did I.

Brave words, but I can still hear
the doubts that you do not speak.

You cannot control them!

Fine. Then if all this
is in my imagination,

what will you do without me?

What?

I shall sacrifice myself
for the crew.

I shall imagine that I
don't exist at all.

Then there shall be
no doubt whatsoever.

No! You will die!

Stop!
You... you will end me!

No!

They are returned.

Okay Lieutenant, here we go!

Initiate!

We've done it!

I'm so glad you're back, Commander,

and am most fascinated about your
journey into the beyond within.

Well that's quite the story...
and one best told over a cup of tea...

if you have the time?

But of course!

Congratulations Commander.

I knew it wouldn't take long
for you to work it all out.

Well, I wouldn't say I understand
everything that happened...

What is important is that the
malevolent forces of this sector

will no longer underestimate the
tenacity of the Nebula-75.

Quite a few of us appear to
have learned that lesson.

It was a pleasure to point your fine
crew in the direction of self belief.

For you, Commander Neptune.

For me? What is it?

A present...

for saving me from paradise.

Ear plugs!

It seems that Circuit thinks that
you are in need of some peace and quiet.

Well, I guess some robots do have
imaginations after all...

♫ Robot Man ♫
by Barry Gray

I'm in love with
a robot man

A very special robot man

I switch him on
each night and day

It's such a thrill to
hear him say:

- Robot.
- Baby, I love you

- Robot.
- Baby, I love you

This guy's got everything

He never gets tired or upset

He'll never go cold;
he'll never grow old

And wow, when he kisses me

I take off like a jet!

And if I take
this guy to church

He'll never leave
me in the lurch

The perfect lover I adore

To say to me forevermore:

- Robot.
- Baby, I love you

- Robot.
- Baby, I love you
