05x02 - Holy Cow

Post by bunniefuu »

ERIK: This is unlike any
experiment we've done before.

We're gonna have two
helicopters flying over the triangle

sending signals back and forth.

What I'm going to show
you was during the flight.

TRAVIS: Oh, Lord, have
mercy. That's on the ground.

It looks like the other UAP
that came out of the mesa.

- Bingo.
- That's amazing.

NARRATOR: There is
a ranch in Northern Utah.

It is considered the epicenter

of the strangest and most
disturbing phenomena on Earth:

animal mutilations,

bizarre UFO sightings

and unusual energies that
have proven harmful to humans.

For 20 years, the
federal government

tried to find
answers and failed.

Now a new team of
dedicated scientists,

researchers and
experts has taken over.

They are determined to
solve the mystery and reveal...

The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch.

THOMAS: Hey, guys, what
are we looking at today?

We're looking for a relationship

between two things, okay?

So last week, you know,
we captured this object here

during the course
of the experiment

with the two helicopters.

BRYANT: Oh, yeah.

ERIK: That's the
first one and...

you remember that
light that seemed to go

into the mesa and then come
out right here on the property?

Oh, that UAP that looked like

- it came out of the mesa?
- Yeah.

Both of them seemed to be
headed towards the triangle.

TRAVIS: After our
dual-helicopter experiment

above the triangle last week,

led us to capturing video
of a stunning orb-like UAP...

Erik Bard realized
that it looked very similar

to something we
documented last year.

A UAP entered the mesa

in the east field

and then exited the mesa

right near the triangle

as if it had traveled
straight through solid rock.

And Erik also noticed
that in both cases,

these UAPs were headed
right toward the triangle

where we've documented
more phenomena

than anywhere else
on Skinwalker Ranch.

So we'd really love to
figure out the connection

between these mesa
entry and exit points

and the triangle.

I think it's worthwhile to
take a look at that video again

- from last year.
- TRAVIS: I agree.

ERIK: I'm gonna take us forward

to the portion of the video
where we start to see the light.

So right there.

KALEB: See, this
is where it went in.

That's right above
the east canyon,

close to the petroglyph.

I-I think I agree
with you, Kaleb.

I mean, it puts it
right there in that spot.

That's a really
interesting area.

Yep.

THOMAS: There's a
long history of these stories

denoting some type of portal
here on Skinwalker Ranch.

Even some suggesting
that the petroglyph

from the east canyon's
area is related to a portal.

So, based on the
evidence that we have,

I think we have to
leave open the possibility

that some of these tales that
we've heard about this area

and portals could be true.

At this point, it's way
more than a coincidence.

Okay. We'll continue.

So, uh, the next frame here is...

- TRAVIS: When it comes out.
- ERIK: Right.

TRAVIS: Right there.

Look how close
to the triangle it is.

Yes.

TRAVIS: I mean, that is
not far at all from the triangle.

KALEB: No. That's right
on the road that we use

- every day to come over.
- TRAVIS: Yeah.

And in this perspective,

it is absolutely moving
toward the triangle.

ERIK: Right.

BRYANT: I mean, it really

looks like it is
traveling to that spot.

- Yeah.
- BRYANT: Just like that other UAP.

- Exactly.
- THOMAS: Wow.

TRAVIS: I think what we got here

is a rough estimate

that it went in somewhere
near the petroglyph,

and then came out
of the face of the mesa

on the triangle side.

So this is actually

a fractional piece of evidence

that suggests the
mesa and the triangle

are connected somehow.

- Mm-hmm.
- TRAVIS: Right?

I can't help but think
about people in this area

living here for generations,
talking about seeing things

coming in and out
of the mesa, too.

And-and this is that exact area.

THOMAS: So now that we
have a general idea of where

the entrance point and
where the exit point is,

what's the next step?

I have an idea.

So what if...

we go out in the
east field to the mesa

and bombard it

with a signal that we
can easily measure.

Maybe we send the

And then we go out to the mesa

on the triangle side
with the receivers

and see if we see that signal

coming out of the
face of the mesa

right there by the triangle.

ROYSTON: Yeah.

TRAVIS: To test the
Native American legends

about portals on
Skinwalker Ranch,

my idea was to use
a signal generator

to broadcast a strange

that we've recorded
during past experiments

into the in point
where we saw the UAP

entering the mesa last year,

which is also the same spot

where that
petroglyph is located.

And then Erik will
have a signal receiver

at the out point where
the UAP exited the mesa

and flew towards the triangle.

Now here's the thing.

Due to the long
distance between us,

Erik's receiver
should not be able

to detect my transmission.

So if he does receive it,

that could mean some
kind of direct passageway

through the solid rock mesa...

Like a portal...
Made it possible.

It's a worthwhile experiment
to see what happens.

Okay. Well, it sounds
like we've got a lot

to get going to try
and figure this out.

Yeah.

- Okay. Great.
- Good.

BRYANT: We'll get boots on the
ground right now and find the spots.

ERIK: Welcome back.

Thanks. It's great to see you.

It's good to have you out.

ERIK: While the team are
preparing for the experiment,

we have Ben Woodruff
with us at the ranch.

He's a biologist at the
Hutchings Museum Institute.

We have some samples

that we'd love you
to take a look at,

as a biologist.

ERIK: We reached out to him

because we observed some
really strange things happening

with life and even
death on the property.

We had a cow that
went down last October.

- BEN: Mm.
- Uh, really kind of mysterious.

- Mm-hmm.
- ERIK: Uh, there were no indications

that there were any, any
health problems with that animal.

- And it just went down.
- And it just went down, yeah.

- Yeah.
- Hmm.

We'll get a chance for you

to really get your eyes on it,
put your mind on it and see

what sort of insights
you can share with us.

- Sounds great.
- KANDUS: Yeah. Meanwhile we've got

a couple of birds we want you to look at that are dead.
- BEN: Uh-huh.

KANDUS: Yeah,
they're partially decomp

but not heavily.

BEN: Mm. That's a
strange thing here.

Why is it that some
things on the ranch

die and decompose normally

and some, they just
don't decompose?

- Yeah.
- KANDUS: Well, let's go check it out.

Yeah, I'd love to take a look.

- All right. -Lead the way.
- KANDUS: Yeah.

I say it would be
almost 100% fair

to say there's some biological
anomaly going on here

that's slowing down the
process of normal decomposition.

- BEN: Okay.
- Yep.

And with Ben on
board, he would be great

to show us what
should be the norm

of the timeframe of which

something should
decompose versus

something completely
off the mark.

The grosbeak's the
one that's been dead

for about two, two
and half weeks, yeah.

- Okay.
- KANDUS: A little more decomposition.

And then this is,

- I think it's a starling.
- Yeah.

When I first saw
it, it looked like

something had gotten
into its, uh, brain.

Hmm.

So, when did you
find the starling,

and when did you
find the grosbeak?

The starling I found about...

- a week and a half ago.
- BEN: Mm-hmm.

The grosbeak was two weeks,
two and a half weeks now,

and I would have
thought somebody

or something would
have dragged it off by now.

Yeah. Yeah.

'Cause there's,
there's no waste in...

- no waste in nature.
- Right.

BEN: Usually there's
always something

that wants to come
along and eat it.

Even the sun plays a role.

That's what's really
interesting, is...

The sun starts to
break down the follicle

where the feather attaches

and the feathers
start to just come out.

And that hasn't happened either.

TOM: How long does
that typically take?

BEN: Um, no more than a week.

- Oh, okay.
- BEN: Because on the inside,

you should have microbes
and flies and maggots

and dermestid beetles
breaking down the inside,

and so that separates the
skin, and then the feathers

hit the sun, they... ugh,

they just give up
and come apart.

Let's take a look.

On the starling...

there's no evidence of maggots
or dermestid beetles at all.

The muscle tissue is squishy.

The keel bone is intact.

So nothing has eaten
the inside of this bird.

Which makes no sense.

This should be a mummy
or it should be rotted.

And it's not.

But the brain is gone.

That is not normal.

KANDUS: When I first saw it,

it was just lying there
with its brain missing.

BEN: That is not normal.

Wow.

TOM: I've never seen an animal

just missing its brain.

Nothing else was
wrong with this bird.

You couldn't
really see anything.

Everything else
seemed to be intact.

These animals, they
aren't decomposing

in a natural way on the
ranch, and this is something

we've noticed over the
years of this investigation.

BEN: The grosbeak, and
this one's older you said?

- TOM: Yeah.
- KANDUS: Yep.

BEN: This one...

Hmm... so there's a lot
of blood around the beak,

but the eyes are intact.

And feeling on it...

I'd-I'd have to look at
this under a microscope.

But the keel bone,

right here on a bird,

ends right here at the bottom

of the sternum, and you can feel

- where the viscera, or the guts, are.
- Mm-hmm.

- And all of that is still intact...
- It's still there?

On both of these
birds. That's the first thing

to decompose on
an animal, usually,

because it's soft tissue.

I mean, you can see it.

I'm pushing on
it. It's still squishy.

KANDUS: Wild.

BEN: So, this is interesting

'cause this kind of
breaks both of our rules.

Things should decompose.

- Yeah.
- BEN: It dries out.

With this heat, there's no
way that this can be as it is.

Uh, that's impossible.
Rigor mortis sets in.

- Okay.
- Tissue dries out, the collagens start to break down,

and it rots and disintegrates.

This is what's scarier to me.

Why do you have an animal
that's been dead that long

that's still soft to the
touch and still squishy?

KANDUS: Yeah, it is wild.

You should have a
cat, a fox, a coyote...

There's no shortage of
scavengers on this property.

- No, so why have they...
- BEN: No, no, they're everywhere.

That's a really good point, um,

- because that's the other part of the equation.
- Yes.

Is why aren't they
doing their job?

KANDUS: It seems like
something's off if the birds

have just remained in
place this whole time.

There's something uncanny
and just unsettling about

when Mother Nature
doesn't do what you expect.

And that's what's
spinning us here,

is that there's just
something going on

that doesn't make sense.

ERIK: This is
really fascinating.

Well, I'm hoping by taking
these back to the lab,

we can get some better results

- and hopefully get some answers.
- KANDUS: Great.

Well, maybe we should go
back and check out the dead cow.

BEN: Sounds good. Yeah,
let's go take a look at him.

TOM: The dead cow that
we're looking at with Ben,

we don't know what
caused this cow to die.

Thomas just happened upon it,

but he did note that
there was no blood

and that it didn't look like

it had been attacked.

Let's head on over.

Just another strange occurrence
here on Skinwalker Ranch.

- Well, there's not much left, is there?
- TOM: Mm-mm.

Huh.

ERIK: You know, I was
expecting to see only dry bone,

but I guess
there is a little bit

of that soft tissue left there.

BEN: When was it that
this cow died again?

ERIK: You know, it's
been about six months ago.

Okay.

But you don't know why it died?

ERIK: No.

BEN: So, you've had

that amount of time
of solar radiation

hitting what's left here,

but you still have wet tissue.

I was not expecting this at all.

Usually, when an animal dies,

there's stages of decomposition

that should happen, and
they don't happen here.

What's really strange about this

is the posture, the entire spine

and all the cervical vertebrae,
the head are all intact.

Here's what I want to know:

Why is the stomach over here?

Look how big this
was. All of this,

this is... this was all

what was being
eaten. That's all grasses

and plants that are mashed down.

Totally separate.

What took that and put it here?

KANDUS: It could've
been dragged.

- Look at these tooth marks...
- ERIK: Yeah.

On these ribs
and on that scapula.

It would have to
be larger than a wolf

to be dragging an entire
bovid carcass even that far.

But the ribs, I mean, these
all show the teeth marks.

And this... Look
at this one though.

What are you seeing?

BEN: That is a tooth that
bit all the way through.

Look on the other side here.

It's shattered
out the other side.

See how that other
side is shattered out?

- ERIK: Oh, wow, yeah.
- KANDUS: Mm-hmm.

- That's a lot of force.
- KANDUS: That's a big canine.

I'm just going to take it off.

If you look at how
thick this rib is,

the force that it takes
to go through that,

I mean, that would
break my teeth

if I was trying to do that.

All these other
bites that you see,

these, I can see
scavengers doing.

But this, the force that it
takes to go through that,

well, that is a big powerful
canine that's very pointy.

- TOM: So, what kind of animal is that?
- I don't know.

This is not a species that
I have ever seen in Utah.

I think these samples
are really good.

I'm going to take these back to
the Hutchings Museum Institute,

we'll take a look over 'em.

- All right.
- Fantastic.

ERIK: The bite marks put in
the ribs of that cow carcass

resembled those that
might've been inflicted by

a large animal.

I'm really interested
in what Ben can tell us

after he's had a chance to

examine this rib bone,
in particular, in his lab.

All right, let's head out.

ERIK: Okay, that
goes on the bottom.

This one is gonna go here.

TRAVIS: The next day,
we were all set up with

an array of equipment to conduct
our new "in and out" experiment

at the mesa
between the east field

and the triangle.

What I'm setting up here, Kaleb,

is, uh, one spectrum analyzer.

While Kaleb and I got stationed

near the in point
in the east field,

Erik, along with Dragon,

Jim Royston and Sam
Deriso were operating from

the out point near the triangle.

The plan was that I would
use a signal generator

to broadcast the 1.6
gigahertz radio frequency

at the in point to see
if Erik could actually

receive it on an antenna
that he had aimed

at the out point.

Again, it should not
be possible for Erik

to detect the signal

and that distance
with our equipment,

especially through solid rock.

So, if we're successful,

that would be our
first clue that there is

some kind of passageway

through the mesa
where we saw the UAP

travel in and out last year.

ROYSTON: Okay,
we're set on power.

ERIK: All right, very nice.

TRAVIS: Meanwhile, Jim Royston

will be flying his
infrared lidar drone,

which will also be
equipped with a GPS device,

back and forth above
the in and out path

to scan for any phenomena
that we might not be able to see

with the naked eye.

Yo, we gotta set up
the high-speed cameras.

Finally, at both locations

we'll have multiple
high-speed cameras rolling

and an array of sensor devices

monitoring for anything
strange that might pop up.

- Let's see.
- [electronic warbling]

TRAVIS: Oh, what was that?

Where's that coming
from? Is that me?

Yeah, I guess that...
Where's that coming from?

Is that mine?

Let's see.

There's something
happening right now.

Holy crap. Look at this.

You see this right
here? Look at that, look.

We've got a 1.6
gigahertz signal right now

that's in...
That's-that's pulsing.

I hadn't even
started broadcasting

my 1.6 gigahertz signal yet,

when all of a sudden,
I started receiving

a different signal at
the same frequency

on my spectrum analyzer.

Look at that,

it's the one that we got before.

That 1.6 gigahertz
communication signal.

And the sporadic
pattern of how that signal

was being received

was just like one
that we detected

a couple of years ago
at Homestead Two,

which Erik and I thought looked
like a communication signal.

So, what or who was sending it?

KALEB: I'm thinking Morse code,

like you're sending...

Well, that's not Morse code.

That's-that's like a
very complex signal.

That would be encrypted, even.

I think it's two things
talking to each other.

That is crazy.

TRAVIS: I think it's two
things talking to each other.

- You hear it? You hear it?
- [electronic warbling]

There's one that's just a
little bit to the left of 1.6,

and one that's a
little to the right.

KALEB: They're gibbering
back and forth right here.

TRAVIS: You can
see those signals

reflected in the waterfall.

Look at that pattern.

KALEB: It's like
they're alternating.

Yep, sure is.

Just as I was about
to begin broadcasting

my 1.6 gigahertz radio
signal at the so-called

in point of the mesa to see
if it would travel through it

and over to where Erik
was set up at the out point,

my spectrum analyzer picked
up a completely different signal.

It looked similar to

a possible
communications signal that

we recorded in the past
over near Homestead Two.

But it was a lot creepier.

Hey, Dragon, this is
Kaleb. Do you copy?

Yeah, go ahead, Kaleb.

Hey, Travis is picking
up something on his

spectrum analyzer here.

What frequency
are you picking up?

TRAVIS: Hey, Dragon,
it's like two different signals

talking to each
other at 1.6 gigahertz.

Have y'all seen
anything like that?

BRYANT: Do you see
anything like that, Erik?

Let me dive in.

TRAVIS: So, they're
centered at 1.6 gigahertz,

and one's just
to the right of it

and one's just
to the left of it.

-No. -BRYANT: Copy that.

I don't think we're seeing
anything remotely like that.

TRAVIS: It's really strong,

so I'm surprised
you can't see it.

That is strange.

The triangle is living up
to its reputation right now.

TRAVIS: Copy that.

ERIK: Yeah, I'm getting
a little nervous out here.

So, uh, the sooner
we start the better.

BRYANT: Okay.

So, we need to get them
to do their broadcasting?

- Or is he gonna fly first?
- ERIK: No. No, we're gonna do a control run.

Let them know they've
got a bird coming over head.

BRYANT: Hey, Travis
we are going to fly

a test mission. We just
wanted to let you know

there's gonna be a
bird coming over you.

Copy that.

Whenever you're
ready, fire it up.

- Good to go?
- We're good to go.

BRYANT: Three, two, one.

ERIK: We're going to start the
experiment with a practice run.

Jim Royston will be
flying his lidar drone

between the in and
out points of the mesa.

The question is
whether the lidar,

the GPS or the drone itself

will detect any strange readings

or interruptions along the way.

So, this is all automated?
You've set the path?

Yes. Yep, so this
will have a path,

it's going to stay
right at 300 feet.

Erik will track this path

and see, really,
what's happening,

potentially, at that
entrance or exit.

- That's fantastic.
- ROYSTON: Yep.

Look it.

It's-it's kind of...
it's kind of quit.

Where'd it go?

KALEB: Yeah,
it's flat right now.

TRAVIS: I mean, nothing.

Huh.

ERIK: So, Jim, how
fast is this drone moving?

So, we're gonna do
about 12-point... Uh-oh.

We're RTK red.

So, right now, the drone

and the bay station is
having trouble communicating.

That error came right
over where we think that orb

exited out of the mesa.

ROYSTON: Yeah.

- We're in that anomalous area.
- ERIK: Uh-oh.

ROYSTON: What happened, Erik?

ERIK: There's a gap in the data

right where he called
out controller interference.

BRYANT: There's something there.

Yeah, I'm running into
interference there, guys.

Wow.

AUTOMATED VOICE: Return to home.

ROYSTON: Guys,
we just, we fully lost it.

- What happened?
- ROYSTON: It's returning to home.

The aircraft completely
disconnected.

ERIK: So, there's something
out there messing with GPS.

- Is that correct?
- ROYSTON: That's absolutely correct, Erik.

KALEB: It's headed back.

- It's going right over the spire.
- Holy crap.

What a... Look at this.

Right when you said
that, a-a pulse showed up.

KALEB: There it is.

TRAVIS: And it just turned off.

This was really curious.

After not seeing the
strange 1.6 gigahertz signal

for several minutes,
it showed up again

on my spectrum analyzer

just as the drone

passed directly through the spot

where we identified
a 300-foot-tall spire,

or column-shaped
anomaly, two years ago

during a previous
photogrammetry scan.

And this was right
near the petroglyph

in the east field canyon

that supposedly
depicts a portal.

ROYSTON: All right,
guys, so it's coming home.

I want your eyes on this.

- ROYSTON: Wow. Look at that gap.
- BRYANT: Oh, my gosh.

The same spot as the
photogrammetry's spire.

That seems more than
a coincidence to me.

I agree.

TRAVIS [over walkie]: Dragon?

Yeah, go ahead, Travis.

Right when the drone
flew through the, uh, spire,

you know, the
photogrammetry anomaly.

Well, that correlates
with what we saw.

With the real-time
data that Erik was taking

off of the lidar drone.

I agree.

So, uh, what are
we gonna do next?

We-We're ready to
start the experiment

with the, uh, broadcast or
whatever you guys want to do,

just tell Erik to let us know.

Uh, yeah, let's
fire it up. Let's go.

Hey, Travis,

we're gonna go ahead
and start things up.

All right, we're running the
instruments. We're ready to go.

After receiving that weird

communication signal,

and then Jim getting
the drone interference

right at the
column-shaped anomaly,

I wanted to start
broadcasting my own

through the in point

to see if Erik would be able
to receive it at the out point.

Again, if the signal
goes through,

which shouldn't be possible,

it would be evidence
that something

totally out of the ordinary

is allowing the signal to
pass through the mesa.

Three, two, one.

BRYANT: All right, Travis,

go ahead and start broadcasting.

I'm at 1.6 gigahertz,

and I'm starting broadcasting

in three, two,

one.

THOMAS: Uh... [chuckles]

Why did I just see
peaks come up?

- KALEB: Wow.
- ERIK: Yeah.

Can you tell him
to turn it off again?

Hey, Travis, do you
mind turning that off?

Copy that. We're
gonna turn it off

in three, two, one.

It is off.

ERIK: Whoa.

Yeah, so, we are picking up

when he's turning
things on and off.

Hey, Travis,

this is really interesting.

We definitely had
some signal that

correlated with your countdown.

- Whoa.
- We shouldn't be.

TRAVIS: You guys are picking
up signal through the mesa.

We shouldn't be.

Now let's have
him turn it on again.

Okay, can you go ahead
and turn it back on again?

TRAVIS: It is on.

ERIK: Now, normally,

we should get absolutely
nothing through the rock.

Our little RF signal generator

is just not strong
enough to be detected

over the distances involved,

especially with a
big mesa in the way.

There appears to be
something connecting

these two locations

in the east canyon area and

this area that's
facing the triangle.

Hey, Travis, we're
gonna go ahead

and fly the drone mission...

Copy that.

BRYANT: Three, two, one.

TRAVIS: After Erik
was able to receive

my 1.6 gigahertz
signal through the mesa,

between the in and out points,

it was really important
for Jim Royston

to keep conducting lidar scans

along that path to see
if he can image anything

on infrared that we couldn't
see with the naked eye.

ROYSTON: Okay, we're getting

good signal now, as you can see.

ERIK: Oh.

- I just saw a...
- Yeah.

I just saw a glitch there.

Yeah, this time on ascent,

it looks like it was headed
off towards the south,

even though I know
it went just straight up.

TRAVIS: It was really strange

when the GPS device on the drone

that Jim Royston
deployed collected data

indicating that the
drone flew to the south

because they saw it lift
straight up off the ground.

So, what was
redirecting that data?

And could it have been related

to the communications
signal that I detected?

Here we go, controller
interference again.

We got a lot of data

All right, let's do it.

All right, man.

All right, I say we break down.

In the moment, this experiment

definitely indicated
that there is some kind of

phenomenal connection
between the east field,

or in point, and the out
point near the triangle.

So, what could that
connection really be?

And, also, why did we detect

a possible communication
signal during this experiment?

So, how is that signal
getting through the mesa

and coming out here
that you can detect?

It did appear that there
were times when you were on,

and we-we saw something
persistent enough

that we could all get eyes on.

It's almost like the mesa's
acting like a wave guide

or an antenna or something

and just channeling
it here to you.

- Yeah.

- What's going on?

So, I'm-I'm looking
at, um, all the data

that we collected during
that in and out experiment.

TRAVIS: After our
experiment yesterday,

where we
successfully transmitted

the 1.6 gigahertz
signal through the mesa

between the so-called
in point in the east field

and the out point
near the triangle,

and we also detected

some kind of strange
communication signal,

we couldn't wait to see what
else Erik might have found

once he processed all the
other data that we had collected.

ERIK: So, I want to take us

to the high-speed video

got out in the... in the,

on Skinwalker Ranch.

Right where Jim Royston's
drone experienced GPS errors

and something
interfered with his controls

between the so-called "in

camera recorded a UAP.

So, what was this thing?

And was it responsible
for those anomalies

or even the 1.6-gigahertz
communication signal

we detected that was separate

from the one that I was

So, did you guys happen
