Who could suppose what together we'll

find? With every pair of shoes that we

try, we'll have a new adventure, you

will take mess,

but come for a walk. I lead the way to

places never seen

before.

[Music]

H

H.

Oops.

What are you thinking so hard about,

Franny? Oh, nothing, Grandpa. I'm going

to the kitchen for some water. Would you

like something? No thanks. I'm not

thirsty.

Okay, Franny.

I need to think of a Valentine's Day

present for Grandpa. I don't have much

money, but Grandpa always likes presents

I make myself. I want it to be special,

but I can't think of anything.

A customer.

Good day. How can we help you? I'd like

to go bird watching, but I'm watching my

shoes fall apart instead. We'll fix your

shoes up lickety split so you can fly

off and watch the birds. Franny, can you

take these to the fix it box, please?

Sure thing, Grandpa. Into the fix it box

they go.

[Music]

Where will my feet take me today?

[Music]

Zippy outfit.

Great. The loopy, where am I? I'll tell

you where. Oh my. Ha, I startled you. So

sorry. I've never seen a rock sprout

ahead and start to talk before.

A rock sprout ahead. That's a good one.

I'm not a rock. I'm a tortoise. A

saddleback tortoise. Oh my. Where are my

manners? My name is Thomas. Pleased to

meet you, Thomas. I'm Franny. Where did

you say we are? We're on the Galopagus

Islands, way out in the middle of the

ocean. Would you like me to show you

around? There are lots of interesting

things to see around here. That would be

fantastic.

Oh. Oh, great.

[Music]

You'll see plants and animals here that

you won't find anywhere else in the

whole world.

In fact, this is the only place in the

whole wide world where saddleback

tortoises like me live.

Wow, that's

uh Thomas.

Sh.

Quickly, hide.

Why are you hiding? Sh.

[Music]

Oh, hello there. Whoa. Who's that?

That's Tilly the tortoise. Is she a

friend of yours? Well, is she a friend

of No. Uh, I uh want to be her friend,

but she never ever pays any attention to

me. She can't pay attention to you if

you're hiding behind a rock. I've walked

back and forth in front of Tilly for a

whole week, but she never notices me. I

I mean, I might as well forget about it,

right? Come on. I'll I'll show you

around.

Ooh,

I've never seen flowers like those

before. They're fantabulously pretty.

They certainly are. The red ones are

passion flowers and the white ones over

there are morning glory.

Sammy, I've never seen birds with blue

feet before either.

Those are bluefooted boobies.

That's a funny name. The name booby

comes from the Spanish word. Ha, which

means clown. They sure do look like

clowns.

Oh, what's he doing?

He's dancing.

It's his way of telling the other bird

that he wants to be friends. Hey, it

worked. He made a friend.

Maybe it will work for you, too. Maybe

what will work? You want to get Till's

attention, right? Maybe dancing is the

answer. Come on.

Here she comes.

Start dancing.

Check it out. Yeah, I'm on fire.

You see, she didn't notice me. I I guess

I'm not much of a dancer. Sure you are.

You're just a bit uh slow. Oh, what a

fantastic bird. What's it called? Oh,

that's a frigot bird. There's another

one.

Jeepers. Its throat has blown up like a

big red balloon. Yep. That's what frigot

birds do to get another bird's

attention.

It worked. The other bird noticed him.

Maybe Tilly will notice you if you're

brightly colored. One problem. My throat

isn't red and I can't puff it out like a

balloon. That's actually two problems.

Don't worry. I have an idea.

I'm not so sure about this, Franny. It

worked for the frigot bird. He got

noticed because of his brightly colored

throat. There. Now Tilly can't help but

notice that your shell is brightly

colored.

She's coming.

[Music]

Hifle. She thought you were a flower

bush.

Thanks for trying to help, Franny, but

it's no use. I'll never get Tilly to pay

any attention to me. Don't worry. We'll

think of something.

Did I tell you that Galapagus is a

Spanish word for saddle? So, the

Galapagus Islands are kind of named

after me.

Golly, what fantastic singing? Oh, yes,

that's a finch. They sing a lovely tune.

Look, now there's two of them.

I know. Maybe you can sing a song for

Tilly. Hey, Franny, that's a great idea.

Oh, I forgot I can't sing. Oh, I'm not

good at being brightly colored and I'm

not good at dancing. So, I will just do

what I am good at. Show you around the

island and talk to you. Come on,

Dad. Zuks, are you thinking what I'm

thinking?

You're right, Thomas. You can't dance

like the blue-footed boobies or puff out

your throat like a frigot or sing like a

finch. But I know what you can do. You

can talk. Well, of course I can talk.

You should go up to Tilly and talk to

her. But uh but but but but what would I

say? Well, you could introduce yourself

just like you introduced yourself to me.

Hello, my name is Thomas the Tortoise.

And then you can tell her all about the

things you know. Oh, well, all that's

true. Okay, I guess I can give it a try.

There she is. Go on, talk to her. Okay,

here I go.

Hello, my name is Thomas. Hey, my name

is Thomas. Yo, my name is Tom. You dig?

My name is Thomas.

It worked. It really worked. Franny,

you're a genius. I think she likes me.

She smiled. Come on, I'll introduce you.

Thanks, Thomas. I'd love to meet Tilly,

but there's something I have to do back

home. Okay, Franny. Thanks for all your

help. Bye. Bye, Thomas. Have fun with

your new friend.

[Music]

That was fantastic.

[Music]

A flower.

[Music]

[Applause]

Another treasure for my shoe box.

[Music]

Happy Valentine's Day, Grandpa. Why,

thank you, Franny. Happy Valentine's Day

to you, too. I have something special

for you. I made it myself. How

wonderful. That's my favorite kind of

gift. At first, I couldn't think of

anything to make. But then I decided to

use words just like Thomas did to make

friends with Tilly. Thomas? Tilly? Who

are they? They're tortoises. They live

on the Galapagos Islands. Ah, I see.

Here's my gift, Grandpa.

Some birds throats are red. Some birds

feet are blue. You're my grandpa and I

love you. Belie, I think that's the

nicest gift I can ever imagine. I love

you, too.

Where will my feet take me tomorrow?

[Music]

[Music]

Snack time. Pickle, come and get it.

Oh,

Grandpa. Yes, Fanny. Is it time for our

snack now? Pickle's having his. You're

right. Let me first finish putting on

these laces. You keep working. I'll get

us something to eat.

H cookies. Crackers. Uh-uh.

What would grandpa like better? A glass

of milk or yogurt? Sammy, we can have

both. We can have

a strawberry yogurt milkshake. First,

some yogurt.

Then some milk. Careful not to spill

any. And some fresh strawberries. Yum

yum.

piffle. It's all gloopy.

I'm not supposed to use any kitchen

machines all by myself. Grant. Oh, if I

call for Grandpa's help, he'll know all

about the milkshake, and that'll spoil

the surprise.

A customer.

[Music]

Good day. But what can we do for you? I

work at the Pioneer Village near Dawson

Creek. But my shoes are so dusty and

dingy. They look like they actually came

from Pioneer days. Well, with a bit of

old-fashioned shoe polish, I'll have the

pair looking as good as new. Please,

Franny, will you take these to the fix

it box for me? Sure thing, Grandpa.

Where will my feet take me today?

[Music]

Cushiony clover. Fantastic dress.

Where am I?

Moo. Hello.

Uh, hello. No, silly. Over here,

Jeepers. It's my pioneer friend, Lucy.

Hi, Lucy. What are you doing over there?

I'm getting milk. I thought milk came

from the store. Milk comes from dairy

cows like Buttercup. It's a horse and

wagon ride to the nearest general store.

So instead, we grow and make just about

everything using our very own hands. Oh,

sounds like hard work. It is. But

pioneers take pride in being able to

live off the land. Buttercup has plenty

of milk to share, both for her calf and

with my family. Would you like to try

milking Buttercup? Absolututely.

This is Buttercup's udder. It's where

she stores her milk. Just pull a bit

here. And there you go. That's it.

Zammy, sorry if I'm squeezing too hard,

Buttercup. Oh, milking never hurts a

cow. If I forget to milk Buttercup for a

couple of days, Buttercup's udder would

get very heavy and uncomfortable. I

certainly don't want that to happen. Oh,

Buttercup won't let you forget. She'd be

mowing plenty.

There. That's the morning milking. I'll

milk Buttercup again in the evening.

This way, Franny.

Look at all this food. We store

everything we can from the summer. So,

we have good things to eat when it's too

cold outside for things to grow. These

apples, potatoes, and onions will go in

the root cellar. The cellar is a room

underneath our log cabin. This is

strawberry jam. I picked the

strawberries myself. These are dried

beans. Mom will make a pot of soup with

those. There's pickles, hickory nuts,

and peaches.

M. I smell bread. Mom just baked those

loaves in the wood stove oven. They're

still too hot to eat. Nothing's better

with a slice of warm bread than a tasty,

terrific glass of milk, I'll say. But

today, buttercups milk won't be for

drinking. We're going to make butter.

Will you bring that stone jar over here,

please, Franny? Okie dokie.

It's a bit chilly. The stone jar keeps

it nice and cool. Perfect for making

butter. How can you make butter out of

milk? Buttercup's milk is full of cream.

See how the cream rises to the top? We

just skim off the cream and put it into

the butter churner.

And this special paddle is called the

dasher.

Listen, that's the cream churning.

Sounds like the cream is being mixed

fantastically fast. The churning makes

the cream become thicker. Thick enough

to put on top of fruit or cake. Just

like whipped cream. Exactly. If you keep

on churning, the thick cream starts to

stick together even more. So much that

it becomes solid butter. I'll help. Two

hands are better than one.

We're both butter fingers.

piffle.

Without the dasher, how will we turn the

cream into butter? There must be

something else we can use.

Try this spoon, Lucy.

Oops. Is there anything longer?

Here you go.

The spoon's still not long enough. I can

barely mix the cream. Ooh.

Instead of a longer spoon, let's pour

the cream into a smaller container.

Great idea.

[Music]

I think you'll need to stir faster.

Wait a dingdong minute. Stirring fast

doesn't make the cream into butter. It

just makes the cream fly out of the

bowl. If only there was a way to cover

the bowl, like a lid. I could cover the

bowl with my apron, but that would just

make my apron wet. There must be

something we can use.

Oh,

shake, shake, shake.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking,

Lucy? You can really shake things up in

these jars. And nothing falls out of the

jars because of the lids. See?

Let's try it.

[Music]

Here goes.

Shake. Shake. Shake.

[Music]

Shaky shaky shaky shaky shake shake

shake shake

shake shake shake shaky shaky shake

gold and deliciousness. It worked.

Butter.

So if the butter is there, what's left

in here? M buttermilk. Mom will use that

for buttermilk pancakes and cornbread.

Pioneers never let anything go to waste.

Ready for some fresh baked bread with

freshly churned butter? Thanks, Lucy.

But I'd better scadaddle. I've got some

shake, shake, shaking to do at home.

Thanks for helping, Franny. See you

soon. Bye, Lucy. And bye, buttercup.

Thanks for the milk.

[Music]

That was pioneerrific.

[Music]

A clover.

[Music]

Another treasure for my shoe box.

[Music]

Snack time, Grandpa.

H. What do we have here?

I put strawberries, milk, and yogurt

together. But if you give it a shake,

shake, shake, shake, shake, shake,

shake, shake.

Now we have a strawberry yogurt

milkshake. How did you come up with such

a good idea? I visited my friend Lucy

and Lucy's cow, Buttercup. In pioneer

days, they didn't have many stores and

made everything by hand, like making

butter from fresh milk.

[Music]

I don't think I know Lucy the pioneer or

buttercup the cow, but I do know my

franny has made me a delicious snack.

Bellisimo,

[Music]

where will my feet take me tomorrow?

Heat.

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

Heat.
