it's 8:00 in the morning and Matthew is

fast asleep in his bed

whoa gosh gosh did you see that it

looked like a no it couldn't be W whoo

it is it is it's a it's a horrible old

ghost oh dear oh I am the ghost of

Matthew's bedroom and here to haunt him

forever and forever I will be here

having a quick spook over here and a

haunt over there and a little moan down

there now I am here I will stay forever

and

forever well certainly till the sheets

have got to go back to the laundry

that's look at your faces you look as if

you see the ghost actually don't be

afraid because it's only me anyway there

are no such things as ghosts the reason

I've been

doing oh I'm sorry sorry if I frightened

you look at that I expect you're

wondering how I can actually be in bed

and standing here talking to you at the

same time eh are you well I'm going to

tell you anyway this is why because I'm

playing a trick on you actually all this

business about ghosts has come about

because I've got this terrific book it's

called spooky stories it's really

frightening I've Leed to s in sweet and

too they're reading it down there why

don't you go and join them and see what

they're up to but do it very quietly

okay that's the

spirit that's the spirit

so after his terrifying ordeal the

handsome young stranger found himself

alone in the dark in the empty house at

first he was Brave and conquered his

fear but then he heard a noise which

sent a shiver up his spine and made his

hair stand on end are you sure you want

me to carry on you're looking very pale

soty shall I okay he heard a terrifying

sound the sound of ghostly chains

followed by another even more terrifying

sound the noise of une Earthly spooky

singing did you hear that suty chain

noises followed by an Earthly spooky

singing and there's no one there am I

frightened no no no no of course I'm not

I'll carry on with the story now where

was I

oh yes there was another presence in the

room with him but whatever the presence

was it was not human it was hideous it

was loathsome it moved closer he felt

its presence moving in the room it was

nauseating it was a life form but

without intelligence it was a sickening

blob but to the stranger horror it

suddenly emitted a strange unearthly

noise like a thousand tortured Souls it

said

anybody for walk anybody for walk if oh

sweet you great clot sneaking up on us

like that what's that chain

for it's your lead so we can take you

walkies oh don't be silly

sweep what's the matter with suti why

suti you're

shaking I think the ghost story from

Matthew's book frightened

him so he afraid of

ghosts years just just a little bit

yes am I afraid of ghosts me how could I

be afraid of ghosts there are no such

things as

ghosts no of course there

aren't not even little ones sweet

no no not even teeny weeny weeny one

sweet in that case you're not frightened

of them either well I'm glad to hear

it oh you were shaking because you were

cold were you well I have got two Brave

boys then haven't I come on we better go

down for breakfast come on

sweep I'm so good the story really

frighten you then suti you couldn't care

less about it oh you beat F Su you were

shivering all right all right Sue that's

enough of that you I suppose weren't at

all frightened Sue so certainly not how

can you be frightened of something that

doesn't exist well I agree except that

some people are still afraid even though

they know there are no such things as

ghost it's just just something to get in

the brain that's all you're not afraid

that's cuz you don't have a brain sweep

what is it soy what would we do if there

really were ghosts yes what you mean

horrible big frightening ghosty things

things that go around making horrible

noises spooky noises yes like

this look at you you're all right well I

have an idea what I do excuse me oh I

if you actually bumped into a real life

ghost what would you do come on tell us

ghost haunting me I think that joke will

haunt me for the rest of my life you

apparently Su thinks he know the water

wouldn't get rid of ghost even if there

were such a thing as ghosts got rid of

sweep quick enough well yes you're right

it did get rid of sweet quicking sh

just sweet messing about no it's there

noise I suppose it is really it's sort

of really eerie it's probably just sweep

messing around he's probably trying to

make these ghostly noises to frighten us

that's what it's hi sweep sweep what are

you doing there hang on if sweep's there

then what is making those noises off

there where are they coming from I'm not

very sure come on we better be brave

boys and find out s you have a look

upstairs go on quickly and sweep you

what am I frightened me

with a vacuum cleaner for goodness s

well you said we had to think of how we

would deal with a ghost if we should

bump into one yeah well this is my idea

I'd suck him up then throw him into the

dust bin with the rest of the rubbish

they do something similar on The Real

Ghostbusters you know yeah so that's a

cartoon if I was you in future I should

stick to sucking up dust with a vacuum

cleaner or hang on the suti coming out

we found out what was causing the

ghostly noises it was Su inside the

cupboard with the vacuum cleaner suti

look why don't you three go and use the

bathroom go on off you go go on off you

go in the meantime I might as well clean

out the cupboard since they got this out

fancy thinking that we got a haunted

cupboard eh a dirty one yes but haunted

never excuse

me well there weren't any ghosts in that

cupboard but there certainly was plenty

of dust so I think a nice warm bath is

now in

order there we

are right thank you boys I'll just pop

into the bath now okay that'll be all

on why why because I'm about to have a

bath and when a lady Panda takes a bath

she doesn't want a teddy bear and a dog

watching her every

move can you stay for a little while

well why do you want to oh don't tell me

I get it you're still frightened aren't

you then why are you standing so close

me some room listen boys there are no

such things as ghosts and that is Final

in any case if there were such things as

ghosts and if there were one in this

bathroom we definitely know because

there are

signs what signs well apparently if

there was a ghost the very first thing

that would happen is that all the lights

would go

well there's a job well done clearing

out that cupboard look at this romantic

candle lip breakfast for once actually

the reason I got the candle is because I

blew a fuse in that cupboard underneath

the stairs and I needed the candle whil

I switched the power off oh I forgot to

tell Su sweep and Su I was going to turn

the lights out I hope I didn't frighten

them oh there you are hey you look as if

you've seen a ghost you three you have

course not I'm sure there's a perfectly

simple explanation for what's happened

of course there is there's no need to be

frightened there's always an explanation

strange that we're talking about ghosts

and things like that because in the

local paper here there's an

article thought you blew that candle

out have another go can't to blown it

out properly after three 1 2

3 you know as I was saying there's

actually an article in the local paper

it's all about this hotel you see in the

apparently they've got this room which

is supposed to be haunted now people are

saying that they didn't

actually it's lit again what is the

matter with that candle you think it's

haunted actually it's not haunted it's a

trick candle that's the way to put them

out of course it's not haunted there are

no such things as ghosts and anybody who

think there are is silly which is why I

was going to show you this article in

the local paper now where is it about

this H yeah here we are the hotel with

the haunted room now apparently people

are too frightened to book into this

room because they think it's haunted

well I wouldn't be too frightened I'll

tell you

that prove it yes go on Matthew prove it

you're so big and brave and sure of

yourself you go and book yourself into

that place and if you manage to stay the

night then all well and good yes and

what if I uh what if I don't manage to

stay the night H what then I have to

treat you to a slap up fish and chip

supper

yes right I'll do it I will I'll do it

pass me the telephone I'm going to book

myself in for a night in a haunted room

but do you think I'm afraid do you think

I am of course I'm not well not much

anyway what's the what's the

number and so it was that Matthew found

himself booked in to stay the night in

the haunted room of bord house if

however he failed to stay the night he

would have to take sui sweep and Sue out

for a slap up Meal which is why those

three Little Monkeys arranged to stay at

bford house themselves and play a few

tricks on poor old Matthew things which

would make his hair stand on end what's

left of it hey careful sorry sorry carry

on I tell you what it's a very nice

place it's a smashing hotel look at the

bed look at this absolutely Ace and

wonderful I'm not surprised that people

don't like staying the night here mind

you it's not going to put me off because

I'm not afraid I will stay the night

however I remember that my mommy always

used to tell me to leave my bedroom tidy

so I'm just going to hang up the old

dressing town here we are just put them

there and then we turn in have a good

night's sleep and once we had a good

night sleep fallen on the

floor must remember what mommy told me

always leave the place neat and Tiny so

once I get all sorted

out you can stay where it is I'm not

going to be bothered to do that again

once I pumped up the pillow I shall turn

in I'll pretend I didn't see

that strange the way these places get

you I was just going to say actually

look at the wonderful Furniture antiques

you don't get stuff like this these days

mainly cuz it's new and it won't be

anti did no it couldn't I was just

thinking go over here I was

I could have sworn that those eyes move

then I must be going bonkers I'll second

that come over all warm and clammy not

surprised really I'll go and get some

fresh air because I love fresh ch right

soty you pull the rope and we'll see how

is I love it take it into your lungs and

turn the sheets back I've got chili

outside though they said there was

Central Heating in the rooms and this is

warm now I'm not cold at all so I will

now turn in and have a good night's

sleep look at that still got old

lipstick from the other people that were

here before me right just get turned

in the whole thing is moving probably

something behind it it might be an

animal traps in a

bit look who it is on top of these books

well I needed a wash anyway and I mean

after you've had a jolly good wash what

is the next thing that one always does

have a good night's sleep so that's what

I'm going to do never mind about the

fact that I'm soaking wet I shall have a

good night's sleep

place next if suti hadn't waved his

play some pretty rotten tricks on me

you at least I saw the funny side of it

always jump through Windows when I'm

having a good time actually I'm glad

that you were playing a trick on me

because once again it proves that there

explain Things That Go Bump in the night

need frighten you don't be alarm little

boys there's always a reason a way to

explain it something quite simple is

making that

noise what could it be I'll tell you it

could be a door being blown by the

breeze it could be the plumbing that

happens sometimes it may be the sound of

the wi wind in the trees but one thing

it isn't and I've made up my

mind what isn't it it isn't ghosts or

goblins of that I am sure there's nobody

waiting just behind the door get that

out of your mind get that out of your

head there's no nasty ghost hiding

underneath the bed that's the
