Colt Seavers is a Hollywood stunt man who moonlights as a bounty hunter.

05x07 - Seavers: Dead or Alive

Post by bunniefuu »

I got my first real sick string,
bought it at the five and dime,

played it till my fingers bled,
it was the summer of 69, me and some guys

from school, had a band and we tried real
hard, Joey got married, should've known

we'd never get far, but when I look back
now, the summer seemed to last forever,

and if I had the
choice... That's our boy.

Guess this is our lucky day.

What do you mean?

I've been looking for Eddie Gass for two
weeks, chased him from Wyoming to Oregon

back to L.A., luck had nothing to do with
it.

At least it should be an easy one.

You grab.

Don't get c*ck.

Remember, he's a k*ller.

So what's the plan?

We'll box him in.

You cover the other side of this place in
case he decides to run.

You got it.

Okay, end of the line, Eddie.

Not quite.

First we're gonna have a change of the
guard.

Up.

Varick, how did you... Easy.

I followed you.

No need for both of us to break a sweat.

You still don't carry a piece,
do you, Severs?

Huh?

Are you surprised to see me?

Not really.

It's humid weather, brings out all the
parasites.

Don't you move to Florida?

Seems like the Miami police didn't like
their skips coming in battered and bruised.

Surprised that a skip of yours has brought
in a life.

I must have had an off day.

You know, I thought there was a little
code of honor in our line of work.

Never take another man's bounty.

I take whatever I want.

Haven't you heard of free enterprise?

Eddie, get on your feet.

We're moving out.

Not so fast.

Looks like we're having another little
change of the guards here.

Says who?

Says my friend behind you with the .45.

You must have seen too many of your own
move, Severs.

Nice going, kid.

Thanks, Cole.

Sorry, Merrick.

Put it down.

Well, it looks like we busted up some more
free enterprise.

Come on, Eddie.

Let's go.

I'm gonna get you for this, Severs.

That's dead meat, man.

Dead meat.

I wish you could have seen
the look on Merrick's face when

he realized that all I was
holding was a loaded lighter.

I wish I could have been there.

You know, I saw him trying to skip away
from Colt last year.

And if the police hadn't
have been there to pull

him apart, I don't know
what would have happened.

Yeah, I tried asking Colt
what was between him

and Merrick, but he
wouldn't talk about it.

Hello, I'm Kathleen Hayes from the
district attorney's office.

I'm here to see Mr. Colt Severs.

Uh, well, Colt's in the shower,
but you can come in and wait.

Uh, Jody, there's a problem.

This is Kathleen Hayes.

Would you like a sandwich or some coffee
or something?

Oh, no, thank you.

Hey, kid.

You remember to pick up the shaving cream
I asked for?

Oh, yeah.

It's over there on the desk.

Uh, Colt, this is Kathleen Hayes.

She's from the prosecutor's office.

And, Miss Hayes, this is Colt Severs.

I'm sorry.

I wasn't expecting company.

It's okay.

I have four brothers and an ex-husband.

I need to have a few words with you,
Mr. Severs.

Yeah, well, you better
start talking because I'm

heading for Morro Bay just
as soon as I get dressed.

Colt's doubling Clint Eastwood.

He's gonna take a 300-foot fall off a
cliff.

I'm afraid that's impossible.

No, it's not.

He's gonna use a triple airbag.

Mr. Severs, this is a subpoena.

I need your testimony in the Sloan case.

Who's Sloan?

Vincent Sloan.

The biggest loan shark in Los Angeles.

Wait a minute.

That's the man in the back of the limo.

He handed Gans the money before I grabbed
him.

What you saw was Sloan paying Gans for a
m*rder contract.

We nailed Sloan, and
we've pulled enough loose

threads to unravel a
nationwide operation.

Our office has been
working on this for two

years, and this is the
first time we've done it.

This is the first break we've had.

Look, I'm not the guy you want.

If I were you, I'd strike a deal with
Gans.

I mean, what better witness could you have
than Sloan's own hitman?

You think like a DA.

As a matter of fact, we made a deal with
Gans.

You don't need me.

Except for one thing.

Gans was found dead in his cell this
morning.

Little jailhouse justice.

So you see, without your testimony,
Sloan goes free.

Of course, we'll give you any protection
you feel you might need.

That's the same offer you gave Gans?

Yes, sir.

Yes, I understand.

That's right.

Yes, sir.

Goodbye.

Trouble?

On the contrary, the
syndicate sees my trial as a

chance to break the back
of this entire investigation.

I'll follow.

I get my case dismissed,
and the courts order

the DA's office to
stop their witch hunt.

Then we'd better get to the Seavers,
and take care of them like we did Gans.

I have other plans for Seavers.

You don't see the writing on the wall

Passing by Moving straight ahead,
you knew it all But maybe sometime if you

feel the pain You'll find your own Help
me!

Please stop!

Help me!

Please!

But the pain seems to
break the game You know you

can't quit until you're
free I ran out of gas.

Can you give me a lift?

Well, I'm a sucker for a lady in distress.

Hop in.

Sold your love Only you can do what must
be done You know it's only your malignity

You know it's a lousy place to run out of
gas.

Not a station around here for miles.

I'm trying to break free I can see it Uh,
you want one?

I got an extra.

I'm the mean moon that lives in the sky
Ah, I don't blame you.

The evil's flying higher You
know, you wonder how they can

call it a health bar When
the main ingredient's all sugar.

You know, this is fair and real Take me
where my future's lying Save the moon's

fire You know, I know it's none of my
business But you seem a little nervous.

Is everything okay?

I'm just, uh, I'm just late for work,
that's all.

Yeah, what kind of work is that?

Don't look yourself out the door

Send me home

You sure you don't want me to wait and
take you back to your car?

I'm sure.

Now, wait a minute.

You might need this.

I won't be able to return it to you.

Don't worry about it.

You're really very nice.

I'm sorry.

For what?

For, uh, taking me out of your way.

Oh, forget it.

Glad to be of help.

Hey,

check out that license plate.

Fall guy.

Fall guy.

That's him.

Freeze!

Out of the truck.

What the heck's going on, officer?

Hands against the hood.

Spread them.

Hey, this is a misunderstanding.

I think you got the wrong guy.

He's clean.

Of course I'm clean.

You tell me what's going on, maybe I can
help you.

What the hell did that come from?

First strike heroin.

It's impossible.

I've never seen that before in my life.

You're under arrest.

Anything you say can and will be used
against you in a court of law.

That's the last night I ever want to spend
in jail.

Colt, I can't believe anybody would want
to set you up.

Are you kidding, Pearl?

With all the human trash Colt's
collected over the years, there'll

be a hundred guys who'd like
to see him get his comeuppance.

Well, I can narrow it down to one.

Sloane.

Don't be ridiculous.

If Sloane was out to get you, you'd already
be in the freezer section of the morgue.

Don't you see?

Sloane can't afford another m*rder right
now.

So he does the next best thing.

Discredit the witness, you discredit his
testimony.

The fact still remains that I own you
sealers.

I'm the one who bailed you out.

Therefore, you are obliged to follow my
standard house rules.

Let me see that.

Rule number one.

No trespassing anywhere outside of your
area code.

Rule number two.

No hanging around unsavory characters.

I'll make an exception of you and Howie.

Rule number three.

Rule number three.

Rule number three is
probably you want little

old Colt to check in at
least once every hour.

No, that's rule number five.

Mr. Severs.

Uh, wait a minute.

Maybe you haven't heard, but I have an
arraignment hearing in ten minutes.

Believe me, I've heard.

Now, this might sound crazy
coming from a prosecutor, but

I think you'd be better off if
you miss your arraignment.

Wait a minute.

If I don't show, it looks like an
admission of guilt.

Look, we both know that you were framed.

Now, unless you can
clear yourself in the next 72

hours, your grand jury
testimony is gonna be useless.

And then you won't get Sloan.

Might not end there.

By destroying your credibility,
Sloan may have pulled

the plug on our entire
case against the syndicate.

Look, why don't you just go to the judge
and tell him all that?

Not this judge.

I just came from his chambers.

You managed to draw Austin Roy.

Is that bad?

Only if you're interested
in seeing the light

of day sometime in
the next twelve years.

He's a one-man w*r on drug dealers.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say some
pretty big strings are getting pulled here.

My only ticket out of this is to find that
girl.

Remember, though,
that if Sloan thinks you're

close to clearing
yourself, all bets are off.

He might even try to k*ll you.

Or you could always walk in there and face
Judge Roy.

There's no choice.

Yeah.

I can't believe he didn't show.

Well, you'll just have to go and get him.

Pearl, you're wasting your breath.

Colt's out there trying to prove his
innocence.

You know, maybe he needs our help out
here.

Look, if Colt needs our help, he'll ask
for it.

Until then, we sit tight.

Okay.

Don't say I didn't ask.

What are you doing?

If you guys aren't gonna go out after
Colt, I'll find somebody who will.

We just found him.

I'll bring Severs back, and it won't cost
you a thing.

Eric.

You've got to do something.

How?

We've got to find Colt and warn him.

He's gonna be looking for that hitchhiker.

The gas station.

That's where he dropped her off.

Right.

We'll get Colt's truck out of the impound
yard.

Come on.

I'm still only paying four grand,
and that's it!

You've got to remember her.

A real nice-looking, blue-eyed blonde.

Nope.

She had a real cute smile and kind of wild
hair.

Hey, I see lots of girls every day.

That don't mean I remember them.

Now, if you don't mind, I'm kind of busy.

Look, this is really important for me.

Try and remember her.

She was carrying a gas can.

Look, mister, I don't get involved in
other people's problems.

I've got enough of my own.

Let me tell you something.

If I don't find that
girl, I'm gonna go to

prison for a long time
for something I never did.

Now you mention it.

There was a woman that kind of fit that
description.

She never got any gas.

I remember now.

She was getting in a circle cab the other
morning.

Thanks a lot.

Yeah.

Mr. Sloan?

Mr.

Sloan?

What is it?

It's called Seavers.

He's jumped bail.

Could be serious.

How's that, Geiger?

He could come after you.

I don't think so.

The police have an airtight case against
him.

He's probably in the land of margaritas by
now.

You don't know Seavers.

I made some calls.

He's got a reputation for following
through on things like this.

Well, if he does pay a call on me,
self-defense is a good euphemism for m*rder.

Is that it?

Yes, that's it.

Now do what you have to do.

I don't want to be bothered.

Geiger?

Who are you?

Are you Mr. Sloan?

Who are you?

My name is Earl Varric.

What are you doing here?

Geiger.

Sorry, Mr. Sloan.

I was jumped.

You looking for this?

Okay, Varric.

I'm impressed.

What can I do for you?

It's more what I can do for you.

I'm looking for a mutual friend of ours.

Colt Seavers.

Click, click.

I gave you back your g*n.

I did not give you back your b*ll*ts.

You're mistaken.

I never heard of him.

Let's drop the coy act.

You framed Seavers in order to undermine
his testimony against you.

I don't know what you're talking about.

Is that right?

This is a copy of Seavers' police
deposition taken after his drug arrest.

Look, if this is some kind
of a shakedown... It's not.

It's not.

Seavers is on the run.

There's only one person who can bring him
in.

Someone who can beat him at his own game.

Are you a bounty hunter?

The best.

That's what I heard about Seavers.

Well, you heard wrong.

Why should I want Seavers brought in?

I'm the lamb.

He's guilty as hell.

What happens if Seavers finds the girl and
gets her to talk?

Then what?

Hey, you're pretty smart.

Man, it's very... I
want $10,000 now.

And another 10 when I bring Seavers in and
hand him over to the police.

You just point me towards that blonde and
I'll take it from there.

Woof!

I used to think maybe you love me Now,
baby, I'm sure.

And I just can't wait till the
day you knock on my door

Now, every time I go for the
mailbox, gotta hold myself down

Cause I just can't wait till you write me
a call Hi.

Are you Jack Simone?

Yeah.

Yeah, your dispatcher said I'd find you.

Oh, look.

Man, I'm off duty.

And there's a gnarly swell starting up.

I don't want to miss it.

Yeah, well, you're the only Circle cabbie
working the coast, right?

That's me, dude.

Up at 5, drive the hack till noon,
then I hit the beach.

You wouldn't recall
picking up a blonde over at

Cal's filling station the
other morning, would you?

Are you kidding?

It's not every morning I pick up some
awesome-looking babe at a gas station.

Only this one's... mundo stranger,
you know?

Yeah, what do you mean?

Well, jittery, nervous, you know?

I mean, the whole ride, she's looking
over...

...her shoulder like she's running from
something.

Hey man, I'm missing some tasty ways.

You wouldn't remember where you dropped
her, huh?

Now look, dude, just
because I drive a cab doesn't

mean I don't have,
like, integrity and stuff.

Maybe you don't realize it,
but the relationship between

a cabbie and his fare is
kind of sacred, you know?

Like a lawyer and his client, doctor and
his patient, surfer and his board.

On the other hand... Whoa!

...she did stiffen up.

Why can't you tell me what's wrong?

It's nothing.

What do you mean, nothing?

There's got to be something.

I mean, you hardly talk to me anymore.

I don't talk to you anymore because you're
always taking things the wrong way.

Look, can I have a twist in this one?

I do not take things the wrong way.

Did some guy hurt you?

No.

Look, would you stop playing my big
brother?

I got into a little wrangle
with someone over

this gambling desk,
but everything's OK now.

You just say the word, and I'll pulverize
it.

I said I'm OK.

I think I'm going to go in the back and
get a little fresh air, OK?

I'll be back in a minute.

Kitty, pick up this one.

Willoughby, just a couple of questions.

Do you know a cute little blue-eyed blonde
wears her hair kind of well?

You mean Nancy Archer?

Yeah, that's her.

Are you the guy that she's been seeing?

Well, you might say that, yeah.

You got me confused with somebody else.

No, you're the one that's confused,
buddy.

Hey, can we talk this over?

My hands do my talking.

What did I tell you?

Nancy!

That is my little lady in distress.

How many other innocent patsies have you
set up since I last saw you?

Let go of me.

Oh, not on your life.

Now, the last time we met, you weren't the
talkative type.

But I think I can help you overcome that
little problem right now.

Look, please, you don't understand.

Oh, I understand, ladies.

You set me up for a fall.

You're the only one
who can clear me out of

this mess, and you're
gonna do that exactly now.

Hold it, Harris.

Get out of here, lady.

Beat it.

Seavers.

Put these on.

You know, you and I, we've got to stop
meeting like this.

Get over by the car.

You know, you never cease to amaze me.

How's that?

That's when I think you couldn't sink any
lower.

You managed to go to work for Sloan.

Me?

Well, you couldn't have gotten the girl
without me.

I'm not Sloan's help.

Just what is your job description,
Beric?

Errant boy or hitman?

Now, you get in this car.

I want you to drive.

Where are these?

I want both of my hands free.

Now, get in that car.

Start her up.

Start her up.

You know, this isn't easy with handcuffs.

Damn sad heart of wearing your b*llet.

Go on.

Well, I hope you find your friend.

Thanks.

Well, at least we know we're on the right
trail.

And we know Colt's headed for Circle Cab.

You don't think Beric's got a say yet,
do you?

No, you can bet on it.

All I can say is I hope we find Colt
before he does.

You always did have a high opinion of
yourself.

I tell you, Seavers, you might be one heck
of a bounty hunter, but as a skip,

you're a piece of cake.

Why don't you slow down?

I said slow down.

Go ahead.

And sh**t.

Who's gonna drive?

My shoulder.

Through yet, Seavers?

Hi, this is Nancy.

Sorry I'm not home right now, but if you'd
like to leave your name and number,

I'll be happy to get right back to you.

Bye.

Please wait for the beep.

Bye.

I'm calling for Vincent Sloan.

He's arranged to get you safely out of
danger.

Meet him at the construction site at
Oceanside Place at 3 o'clock this afternoon.

Are you sure this is the place the cab
driver described?

Yeah, I know.

He said Torchlight Bar, somewhere between
Gnarly and Rochelle.

He's a radical.

Whatcha gonna do?

Why don't we go in and ask if anybody
knows a girl who matches her description?

Howie, that doesn't sound like much of a
plan.

I mean, what if someone in there knows her
and they want a cover for her?

Jody, we don't have time to beat around
the bush.

We need the straight-ahead approach.

Yeah, but... Don't but me.

We're gonna do this my way.

You wait here, all right?

Sure.

What do I know?

Game's not over yet.

Game?

Is that what you think it is, Varick?

If Seavers gets to the
girl, she can clear him, and

if Seavers says, he
testifies, we're all finished.

We?

We made a deal, Varick.

So far, you haven't delivered.

Well, I will bring him in.

You can count on it.

Can I?

Seavers is too slick.

He won't quit till he nails me with his
testimony.

I want him out of the way.

My deal did not include m*rder.

It does now.

Oh, come on, Varick.

I've checked you out.

k*lling a bailjumper never bothered you
before.

Why'd you do it now?

What about the girl?

I think we can persuade her to behave
herself once Seavers is out of the picture.

But if she gets in the way, do what you
have to do.

Don't miss again, Varick.

Don't worry.

I won't.

Do you feel the pleasure of having me?

Do you feel the pleasure of having me?

Not as thirsty as I thought.

I say, you might be able to help me with
something.

I'm looking for somebody.

Boy, you people just don't give up,
do you?

Well, wait a minute.

I think you got me mixed up with somebody
else this young.

Okay, buddy.

This way.

You're out of here.

Listen.

Wait a minute.

You don't understand.

No, you don't understand.

Nancy's paid every single cent that she's
gonna pay you people.

I'm not looking for Nancy.

You're not?

No.

Oh.

I'm sorry.

It's okay.

I was looking for a guy named Severs.

Colt Severs.

He might have been looking for Nancy.

Oh, you mean that... that
rugged-looking guy with the tie?

Yeah.

Is he a friend of yours?

Right.

Where have you been?

Getting this.

Tom Carls.

All I need is her name.

Nancy Archer.

Here it is.

Nancy Archer.

Okay.

I've got a name, an address, a phone
number, everything.

That's not bad.

Let's get going.

Anybody home?

I don't think she's home.

Well, maybe she's not answering.

Maybe she can't answer.

We better go in.

Yeah.

Nancy?

Hello?

Nancy?

It's just a cat.

It's Roger.

Just call in to see if you're okay.

Call you later.

Bye.

I'm calling for Vincent Sloan.

He's arranged to get you safely out of
danger.

Meet him at the construction site at
Oceanside Place at 3 o'clock this afternoon.

Let's go.

Forget it, Nancy.

There's nowhere to run.

I'm sorry.

That's not true.

That's not good enough.

What I want to know is why.

Look, I was in a jam.

What could I do?

Besides planting dope in my truck,
I can think of a lot of things.

I had a bad gambling habit.

Look, I owed a whole lot of money.

Sloan bought out my marker and told me if
I set you up, we'd leave them.

I didn't want to do it, but I had no other
choice.

Yeah, well, you still don't.

Not unless you go to the police and tell
them the whole story.

If I do that, Sloan will have me k*lled.

They'll keep you in protective custody
until this is over.

Look, Eddie Gansworth's in protective
custody.

Your only way out of this is to nail
Sloan.

Now, you're gonna help me do that,
Nancy.

We are in this together.

Are you okay?

Yeah, but I'll be a lot better when we get
to college.

We gotta

get to that construction site.

I'll call it too late.

I

don't know how you got here, but good
timing.

Damn it.

He's got Nancy.

I'm okay, I'm okay.

And I'd feel a lot better if you'd stop
hugging me.

Oh, where does it hurt?

Everywhere.

Why didn't you call us?

We could have helped.

Exactly why I didn't.

I mean, if things didn't work out,
I didn't want you two to be implicated.

Hey, we're all in this together.

I guess we are now.

Come on.

Come on.

Cole, what makes you so sure Varick's
gonna call?

It's not the girl he wants.

It's me.

Nancy's just a bargaining chip.

So we just wait?

It won't be long.

Varick moves fast.

He takes his style from a rattlesnake.

Exactly what is it between you and Varick?

A long time ago, he and I both were after
the same skip.

By the time I got there, Varick had shot
him four times.

I testified at the trial.

You gotta quit it unnecessarily.

Force defense.

I was there.

Believe me, it wasn't necessary.

Here goes.

Varick?

Hello, Seavers.

Been expecting my call?

Where's the girl?

Right here.

Cole?

Nancy, you alright?

Yeah, I'm alright.

That's enough.

She's pretty.

It'd be a real shame if...
Varick, you don't want her.

Just tell me when and where.

Pacific Street Pier, 6 o'clock.

You come alone or she pays the price.

What are you gonna do?

Make Varick force his hand.

If it works, I can get Nancy out safely
and nail Varick and Sloan.

What do you have in mind, Cole?

Give him what he wants most in the world.

Me.

I came to get her.

Thanks.

He's here somewhere.

You're a good man, Seavers.

Always on time.

Come on.

Let her go, Varick.

Sure.

You know I'm a man of my word.

Come on.

The other hand doesn't make a lot of sense
to me.

I'm going to leave a witness.

Get out of here!

Hey, Nancy!

It

looks like the tables have turned again,
huh, Varek?

Goodbye, Seavers.

Mr. Sloan, you ought to tell your goon to
keep the front door locked.

You could get the wrong kind of visitors.

You know what I mean?

Seavers is dead.

Now, if you want the girl, too,
it'll cost you extra.

You know, this one was my pleasure.

You know, a man like you ought to be
smoking a harness.

I prefer these.

By the way, everything you just said has
been recorded.

Howie, Jody, bring in the troops.

I wore a bulletproof vest.

Very good.

What about Sloan?

Oh, Jody and the cops wrapped him up while
you and I were tap dancing at the pier.

Very good.

Thanks.

But not good enough.

You're dead, man, Seavers.

And this time you want to stay dead.

So long, Beric.

I'll be back, Seavers.

You know I will.

I'll be waiting.

Thanks to Colt and
Nancy's testimony, Sloan's

gonna be spending quite
some time behind bars.

Well, what about Beric?

Well, with any luck, his depressing
license plates well into the 21st century.

Well, if there's anybody to thank,
it's these two.

They went after you,
not for any material

gain, but just to help
a comrade in trouble.

Uh, Pearl.

A more loyal, true blue pair of pals
