Colt Seavers is a Hollywood stunt man who moonlights as a bounty hunter.

04x17 - Tailspin

Post by bunniefuu »

I'm not kind to kiss and tell,
but I've been seen with Sarah.

I've never been with anything less than a
man.

No,

that's good enough.

Come on.

Let's get out of here.

You're crazy leaving the money here.

If your poo-poo's Robert worked,
we wouldn't have to.

I'm gonna stick it on you waiting to get
busted over this.

Don't worry more about getting to a doctor
than getting busted.

I'll be okay.

Come on.

Let's get out of here.

All

right, well, thanks anyway.

No use, Howie.

This town was quiet as a cemetery till the
new TV season starts.

Julie, I'm not gonna give up.

Something's bound to break.

You've been saving that champagne for
weeks.

You got a hot date?

Not that I know of.

What's this?

Champagne.

Who's that?

Our savior.

Hi, Terry.

I'm so glad you could make it.

Boy, don't we look lovely today.

Come on, sit down.

I love the outfit.

Thank you.

I really like the jacket.

It's nice.

How about some champagne?

Go ahead.

Put your feet up.

Sure.

A little bubbly for you.

A little bubbly for me.

And a toast for us.

Here we go.

Cheers.

Cheers.

Colt, what's going on?

You invite me over.

You flatter me.

You offer me champagne.

You've never done that before.

Terry, you know, you're right.

We were just talking about that.

I mean, I know there's been times when
I've been rude.

I mean, there's been some times when I've
just been downright obnoxious.

Uh, Colleen, you've got a job for us?

No kidding.

Where is it?

I just want to set the record straight.

I don't believe I'm hearing this.

No, it's true.

I mean, any time from now on, if you have
a job for us, I mean, I don't care how

dirty, how dangerous, how tough,
you just feel free to speak right up.

You're putting me on, right?

Well, try me.

What's it pay?

Wow!

How many days?

Okay.

Um, I do happen to have something you
could do for me.

Uh, it's down the middle of nowhere,
though.

A change of scenery would be great.

And the money's really not very good.

Only $2,500 plus expenses.

It'll be my way of showing you how sincere
I really am.

Okay.

Well, uh, there is a cold-blooded k*ller
bank robber that jumped on me.

I'm sure he'll jump bail.

No problem.

His name is Nick Sterrett.

His partner died from wounds he got during
the robbery.

Police caught up with him two weeks later.

Only the money disappeared.

$200,000.

And the only clue I have to him is this.

About Bill Hillman's flying circus?

Yeah, that was in Sterrett's room when the
police arrested him.

I don't know what the
connection is, but that show was

playing in the same area at the
same time as the bank robbery.

Closed down for two months
for repairs, but they're having

their grand reopening again
up in Oregon this weekend.

Oregon?

Oh, I love Oregon.

I'll start packing right away.

Are you really gonna do this?

No kicking and screaming, no blackmail?

Terry, my word is my bond.

Colt, you're not gonna believe what just
happened.

I got us a job.

No, not just a job.

A high-paying job.

You did what?

Yeah.

We're gonna be on Lucas's next picture.

Six weeks of stunts on the biggest film of
the year.

Hey, great!

Yeah!

We start in two days.

Terry, about that skit.

You know, Colt, you know what you said
about your word being bond?

I really admire that.

Well, I...

We have to start in two days?

Well, if we want the work, we do.

Well, you can look at it this way.

It'll motivate you.

Thank you for the champagne.

Bye.

No problem, Colt.

We're gonna find that guy, and we're gonna
be on that picture.

Yeah.

Yeah, I love your optimism, but all we have
to go on is a handbill from an air show.

No problem.

We've had worse before.

Yeah.

When?

Never

knowing who's gonna die tomorrow.

Jody, relax.

He steps

out, puts on his parachute.

Don't panic.

I'm going down to get some help.

To my pilots.

To my daughter, Katie.

And to the best rip-roaring this Wild
Bill's Flying Circus ever put on.

You know what?

From the air show I
saw this morning, that

guy got a parakeet
and fly better than that.

Yeah?

Who are you?

Colt Sievers.

Dad, don't start.

If you were any good, I'd know who you
were.

Apparently you don't follow the European
circuit.

We've been over there making movies.

Ace is the best stunt pilot in the world.

Movies.

Can you do a double Immelman?

He can do triples and quads.

Look, mister, I don't know what you're
trying to sell, but we're not interested.

Come on, Dad.

Come on.

Look, you pushed them too far.

Now they're leaving.

My guess is that old man couldn't even do
a falling leaf.

Oh?

I practically invented it.

Can you do a wing over or a tail slide?

Dad.

He can do a wing over and a tail slide
inverted.

Oh, he can, can't he?

Dad, what difference does it make?

Can you do an eight revolution death
spiral?

Eight?

Ha!

He can do a ten revolution death spiral.

I want to see it.

You got yourself a partner, Wild Bill.

Can

I speak to you for a minute?

Uh, sure.

Look, my father is a handful and a half to
take care of as it is.

The last thing he needs is someone like
you coming along and encouraging him.

Try to keep him on his best behavior.

Katie, girl.

Come on, we got a second show to do.

Okay, Pop.

Oh, that was some show.

Thanks.

You mind telling me where I can find the
fella that flies that plane?

I think you might be an old friend of
mine.

Sure, he's over by the hangar.

Thanks.

Give me the money!

All right.

Here.

Take it.

But I don't have any credit cards.

Don't play games.

I know you dug up that money.

I want it or you're dead.

That money?

Yeah.

Hey!

Hey, kid.

Yeah, Colu?

Starrett.

What?

Get him.

You all right?

Yeah.

Starrett jumped me because he thought I'd
found the stolen money.

So that's his connection to Hilleman's
show.

Somebody here must have the money.

Yeah, but who?

And what?

Could be anybody.

The important thing is that we grab
Starrett.

With 200 Gs on the line, he'll be back.

Yeah, but in a day or two.

In a day and a half?

That's all the time we have left or
there's no stunt job.

Maybe we can force his hand.

Are you sure he didn't realize you were
onto him?

Are you kidding?

I gave a great performance.

I acted like I was scared to death.

He still thinks I've got the loot.

He didn't phase you, huh?

A punk hood like that?

No way.

You stayed cool?

As the proverbial cucumber.

You're gonna need the nerves of steel for
my plan.

I will?

Yeah, we're gonna set a trap for Starrett.

Guess who's gonna be the bait?

I've never seen such woeful...

Nobody here is trying to tell me that
Betty Grable's eyes are brown.

I say they're green and I should know.

She was my favorite pinup girl in World
w*r II.

There's got to be an easier way to settle
this.

Okay, okay.

You're in the movies.

Tell Shorty here, is her eyes brown or
green?

That's a known fact.

They're blue.

Yeah, they're blue.

Sure about that?

Positive.

Blue.

Well, what do you know about that?

Not a little hard feeling.

Come on, Shorty, I'll buy you a drink.

Colt, I always thought her eyes were
hazel.

What do I care?

As long as they weren't brown or green.

Everybody, drinks are on me.

All right.

I think I owe you an apology.

For what?

I owe you an apology.

Well, for keeping Dad out of a fight.

Does that happen often?

Well, let's just say it's happened more
than once.

If it makes you feel any better,
I accept your apology.

Thanks.

You don't know what it's like trying to
ride hurt on him all the time.

Look at him.

I was really low on fuel, and these three
Messerschmitts were breathing on my fanny.

Well, I managed to sh**t down one Jerry.

Then I suckered the other two into a mid
-air collision.

It was beautiful.

See what you mean?

He's the original Peter Pan.

He flies, but he won't grow up.

I'm not his daughter.

I'm his babysitter.

What's a babysitter eating there?

A series of learning.

I have a whole library and two steamer
trunks.

It kind of gives me a little sense of
home.

Katie, why don't you join the party?

Because drunken brawls are not my idea of
a party.

You sound just like a woman.

I am a woman!

You know what I mean.

I thought I raised you different.

You tried, Dad, but sometimes you can't
fight Mother Nature.

She just doesn't understand.

Lived her whole life with pilots,
and she still doesn't understand them.

I think she understands them all right.

Maybe too well.

Good.

You're right.

We ain't the easiest people in the world
to live with.

But, hell, I wouldn't raise Cain and Bars
if I could spend my whole time in the air.

This is just time spent waiting.

You know what I mean?

I'm gonna go up there right now.

Cain's gone.

Cas like us.

They should have been birds.

I don't know, Bill.

I think birds have to set their feet down
sometimes.

See if I can see ya.

Hey, glad you could make it.

, All right, let's get in.

I hear business ain't been so good since
you left your old alma mater.

You heard right.

Five years in the slammer ain't much of a
job recommendation.

If this works out, you should be set up
for some time.

Your cut's 30 Gs.

Sounds good.

What do I gotta do?

We've got to convince the pigeon that
finders aren't always keepers.

You must be slipping if you need me for
that.

The pigeon's tougher than I thought.

Plus, he's got friends.

I figured a little extra muscle couldn't
hurt.

Where's he now?

In there.

When do we hit him?

Just as soon as it's convenient.

Are you sure we have to do this this
early?

Jody, I'm supposed to be fleeing with the
loot.

Daybreak's the perfect time for that.

Wasn't daybreak also the perfect time for
execution?

Just be careful, okay?

Don't worry, Colt's got it all worked out.

But thanks for the thought.

That your pigeon?

Yep, just like up here they do.

Or in the morning.

On the coup.

That must be the money.

Go.

All right, hold it right there.

All right, let's have that money,
punk.

All right, all right, just take it easy.

Pretty grim, kid.

Let's go.

I hope he's gonna be all right.

Oh, he's fine.

Dad likes to take a nap before the
afternoon show.

Listen, thanks for bringing him back.

Oh, that's the least we could do.

You know, he's really quite a guy.

I know, mad as he makes me.

You know, he's the only reason I'm here.

Have some coffee?

No.

You know, it sounds like you'd rather be
someplace else.

I would.

I've always really wanted to settle down.

To teach.

Teach?

Mm-hmm.

You'd make a wonderful teacher.

What stopped you?

Well, I was on my way to getting a
teaching credential... when Mom died.

She used to do the act with Pop.

I came back to take care of him until he
got better.

That was four years ago.

And you're still here.

You know, sometimes I think he does all
those wild things...

because he knows I worry about him too
much to leave.

Have you talked to him about it?

Have you ever tried talking to a tornado?

No.

Anyway, I thought I might not have to.

A couple of months ago, we had to close
down...

because the planes were falling apart.

I thought the air show was finished.

The planes look fine now.

As luck would have it, a surprise loan
came through...

from Silverado Savings and Loan.

It saved us.

So here I am, and it looks like here I'll
stay.

Thanks.

It's hard to find a good listener.

Anytime.

People say I have a good ear.

Oh, the rest of you isn't so bad either.

What are you grinning at?

She's just giving me the traditional
good luck kiss... before I go up.

Yeah, well, if I had that kind of
luck... I wouldn't waste my time flyin'.

I'd better go check on Dad.

He's got a show to do.

I want you to call Terry.

I have her checking a loan...
while Bill got a couple months ago...

from Silverado Savings and Loan.

Why?

What's it mean?

I just want to make sure he really got it.

Well, what if they won't give
Terry... that kind of information?

Just tell her it'll help me grab Sterritt.

She'll find a way to get the info.

The

sh**t opened so late!

As long as it didn't open too late.

You okay?

Why wouldn't I be?

All I did was fall out of an airplane.

Yeah.

Come in, Wild Bill.

Colt's alright.

Do you copy?

Yahoo!

Well, I guess we know who switched the
blanks for the live a*mo.

Well, if Starrett thinks I'm out of the
way, he'll be coming back with the money.

Speaking of money, Terry got back to me
about Wild Bill's loan.

The bank never made one.

They turned him down, and so did a dozen
other banks in California.

He must have been lying to Kate.

Well, he didn't lie about fixing up his
planes.

Those repairs cost plenty.

Well, then Wild Bill must have the money.

Or what's left of it.

We better get back there before Starrett
does.

Greetings.

Who are you?

Debt collectors.

Let's go.

What's this all about?

He wants his money back.

Dad, what's this all about?

I don't know.

Wrong answer, old man.

Just don't hurt Kate.

Dad, how did you get that money?

He and his partner were burying it the day
we were checking out the airplanes.

I saw them from the air.

Kate, we needed to fix the airplanes.

We needed to get back in the air.

Dad, how could you do that?

You must have known that was stolen money.

I wasn't planning on keeping it.

As soon as the crowd started coming back
in, we were back on our feet.

I was going to give it to the police.

Dad...

Katie, the flying circus is my life.

I couldn't stand to lose it.

You're 30 grand short.

I bought airplane parts.

Let's just get out of here with what we
got.

All right.

She goes with us.

You've got your money.

Now leave Kate alone.

She's our ticket for a safe trip,
old man.

Let's go.

No!

How did you get in here all dead?

Come on.

You drive, get in.

Come on, come on, move it!

Dad!

He sure took the money.

And Kate is a hostage.

They took off in Walbill's truck.

Did you see which way they went?

Once they left the airfield, they could
have gone anywhere.

They probably went north to the Canadian
border.

Yeah, or south of Mexico.

Well, which way should we go?

Straight up.

We have a better chance of spotting them
from the air.

I'm going with you.

No, you're not.

You're hurt.

Jody, you look after him.

I've been busted up worse than this
before.

Don't ever stop me.

I'm going with you.

We'll take the Tiger mom.

All right.

I don't have time to argue.

Howie, call the sheriff.

Tell him what happened.

Tell him we'll radio when we spot the
truck.

Come in, Howie.

Yeah, Colt.

Where are you?

We're on the ground.

We got shot down, but we're okay.

Well, what about Kate and Sterritt?

As we were going down, they were doubling
back.

They're heading south on Highway 108.

South?

We got the sheriff heading to the other
side of the county.

You and Jody better go after Kate
yourself.

Bill and I will try to get back in the
air.

Tell the sheriff the same thing.

Got you, Colt.

Good luck.

What if she's dead, Colt?

What if they've k*lled her?

Insurance.

They won't do anything until we know
they're safe.

It's all my fault.

If I just let her go like she wanted,
she'd be safe now.

Come on.

That's history.

We gotta get back in the air.

Now, how's it look?

He shot the fuel line.

Well, can you fix it?

Well, I could take some tubing from here,
patch it in around the left intake.

That might work.

That way you'd avoid the busted fuel line.

We'd lose power, but we could still fly
it.

Yeah?

Come on.

Let's get it.

Find him.

We found a way to fix the plane.

We'll be back in the
air in, uh... Two minutes.

In two minutes.

Now, you two stay in touch.

I'll need you to back us up.

We're with you.

That should hold her.

Let's go.

You

make it to that sh**t on time.

Are you kidding?

I had a minute and a half to spare.

Yeah, not only did we
get our stunt job, but

both Starrett and
Logan are back in jail.

Well, nicest of all, you guys gave the
reward for returning the stolen money to Dad.

It covered what he spent.

Kept him out of jail.

I'm indebted to you.

We didn't need the money.

You see that, Colt?

You're always arguing
about a few lousy dollars, and

all the time you know that
virtue is its own reward.

Well, I think he deserves a lot more than
that.

Especially after getting Dad work flying
for that Air Force movie.

I never thought Pop would let go of the
air circus.

But he's a new man.

Oh, it's too bad he had to work and miss
the party.

I wonder what happened.

He said he'd at least drop by.
