fishing in a few years.

Ooh, baby.

Here we go. First pot.

I've never spread my gear
this far before.

If there's any crab around, it
should show some signs of life.

If it doesn't, think I'm going
to fricking cry

like a little baby.

[ men yelling indistinctly ]

narrator: After three surgeries,
five seasons off,

and 2,390 far-flung miles
from home,

captain scott campbell, jr.
Is hoping his far-west set

will show him the sign of life
he's been waiting for.

It's been four years
since I've seen a king crab

other than on tv,

so I'm kind of excited
to see a king crab.

Got a lot of hope
for these.

here we go. Here we go.

Show me a crab.

Holy [bleep]

narrator: On the seabrooke...

Come on, baby. Here we go.
Here we go.

Show me a crab.

Show me about 50 crabs.

Man #13:
Dry. Dry. Dry. Dry.

Damn. Nothing.

Oh [bleep]

what have we got?
What happened?

-Nothing.
-[bleep]

are you [bleep] kidding me?

Wow.

Blank. Zero.

Narrator: Desperate for an early
lead in the race,

junior's first pot in four years
nets him exactly...

Zero crab.

That's not a good sign
when you don't have any crab.

Not expecting that.

Son of a b*tch.

Jack: No, really need to have
some crab in it

or we're not going home
for a while.

Scott:
Pot number two coming up.

Something, just
show us something.

blank, blank, blank, blank.

Aah!
Wah-wah.

Wah-wah-wah.

Oh, man!

Maybe we cut some
[bleep] fishing lines somehow?

What the [bleep] man.

This is a dead zone.

I'm not very happy
about this, man.

I don't know.

He's a keeper!
First crab of the season!

Scott:
That's not gonna cut it.

We've got a single crab
aboard

out of a 10-mile stretch.

One crab in 16 hours.

So if you do the math on that,
it'll take us

3,333 days to catch our crab.

That's 10 years.

They got to be better than this.

Not good.
Not good at all.

We've got our work
cut out for us right now.

narrator:
115 miles northeast

on the saga bandit...

Jake: Here you go, fellas,
first pot.

oh, my god.
[ laughing ]

lordy.

Got my own little crab town
all to myself.

With early signs
of runaway fishing,

the captains look to make quick
work of johnathan's $100,000

in captain shares and put a dent
in jake's $1.8 million quota.

This should be really,
really, really good.

You have
a pretty good day here.

What just happened?

Oh, no.

Aw [bleep] me.

That doesn't
make any sense.

Defying all expectations,
what was hot is not.

That sucks.

This not the kind of numbers
we're looking for.

It doesn't
make any sense at all.

jake: [bleep]

this is really confusing.

20 hours ago, this is
where you wanted to set.

That's what my pots
were telling me

and now they're
telling me to leave.

-Oh [bleep]
-man.

You've got to stack
these on, buddy.

narrator:
Three miles behind them...

...And just out of sight...

Stealth move.

Narrator:
...On the southern wind...

[ men cheering ]

good.

Good work.

Narrator:
24 hours after setting

his time-released zinc pots
right under jake's nose,

the southern wind's
covert set reveals itself...

...Turning saga crab
into harley's crab.

[ men cheering ]

move on, jake-o.

narrator: Struggling on a dismal
3-crab average...

Not good.

...Jake and john's dreams
of a quick trip

are gone with the crab.

What the...?

Jake.

Those are
southern wind bags.

-Hey!
-What?

Somebody's setting us down.

Now there's two of us.

When did he set? There was
no gear here last night.

Narrator: The saga crosses one
of the southern wind's

previously hidden buoys...

...Triggering
john's spidey sense.

He might've
zinced you, man.

Zinced?
What is zinced?

Zincs hold your gear down,

and then they dissolve
and your gear pops up.

That's a thing?
Yeah.

That's a real thing?
It's called a zinc.

You've got all kinds
of tricks and stuff

that we used to do.

Southern wind
just got you good.

Narrator:
Wise to high-seas trickery,

the pirate king sniffs out
harley's deceit.

He set right
down you, man.

Now we're gonna get [bleep]

he zinced you, dude.

That was funny,
but he's mopped the pot.

Now these guys really
[bleep] got us good.

Man, look at this.

Those buoys are popping up
everywhere, jake.

Thanks, harley.

Southern winds set you down
right on top of you dude.

Pot for pot.

I'm mad!

Be right back.

I'll be right back.

Unwilling to tolerate
the intrusion,

johnathan goes
full hillstrand.

We'll take care of this.

Oh [bleep]

move those back, buddy.

John, he's pissed.

Like literally pissed.

I'd just as soon --

[ g*nshots ]

[ laughing ] oh, my god.
Oh, my god.

Get them, johnny!

Narrator:
This week on "salty takes"...

Jake: This is yours
and heather's room.

I got you new sheets
and then I just let --

it's not my room
up there?

We got to flip for it.

[bleep]

go ahead and get settled in.
I'll be right back.

Heather: Okay.

It's [bleep] disgusting
in there.

Alright, kick him
out of his room.

Check out the bed.

Oh, wow.

See how good --
let's see how this feels.

Oh, yeah.

This is my bed?

[ laughing ] oh, dude.

Does it feel crowded
in here already?

[ laughter ]

you come into my room.
He's in my bed.

And then pretty soon I'll
start cutting my hair like you.

Start shaving like you.

Start wearing your stuff,

and pretty soon,
I'm jake anderson.

Wah, wah, wah, wah.

[ laughing ]

I've been hillstranded.

Narrator: Harley's zinc set
catapults him to the lead,

while jake and john
plot their revenge.

I'd watch your back, harley.

Narrator: On the saga bandit...

Johnny's pissed.
I'd just as soon --

[ g*nshots ]

[ laughing ] oh, my god.
Oh, my god.

Get them, johnny.

Johnathan: Yeah!

Yeah!

Narrator: The pirate captains
have their revenge

on the southern wind's
secret set.

Fire in the hole.

Oh, my god.
Oh, my god.

I hope
he learned his lesson.

Is that all the a*mo we got?

Why, you want to do
some sh**ting?

Yeah. Here.
Here you go.

Black-powder therapy
for you.

Wait, I got a better idea.

Narrator: But jake isn't done
with harley yet.

Hey, fellas,
pick up that pot.

Hack and slash.

[ laughing ]

narrator:
98 miles southwest...

Man #14: There we go.

...On the northwestern...

So this is the string that
I set north of my dad's gear.

Hopefully this will hit.

Sig: Alright.

Let's see what you get.

Clark: We're all on mandy's pots
right now that she set.

Hopefully a bunch of crab
in there,

a little redemption for her.

She just kind of [bleep] up
earlier.

So I'm hoping for the best.

Narrator: After mandy's wet
storage set costs them time...

Mandy set farther
to the north.

Fingers crossed
we hit something.

If this is empty,
I'm gonna cry.

...And sig's
first haul yielded blanks,

the hansens hope mandy's gear
in the north pays off.

With russia's
new regulations,

the prices are going
to skyrocket.

So we need a bump now.

We need something
to hit here.

Come on, man.

I don't know.

[ men cheering ]

yeah!

Yeah,
there's crab in there.

Good job, mandy.

Bring it.
Nice. Oh, that was horrible.

Big, big, big, big, big.

-Oh, yeah.
-Oh, yeah.

-Yeah.
-Yeah.

Keepers. All keepers.

Mandy: Nice.

You guessed.

No, I told you.

Whoo!

Did you get a count?

-48.
-48.

48 big ones.

That's how you start
off a string.

If that string
keeps up like that,

then you've got
a winner, mandy.

-ah.
-Yeah.

Whoo!

Yeah, buddy!

Yeah!
Wa-hoo!

[ chanting "usa" ]

how does it feel to be
the breadwinner of the family?

Very nicely done.

It looks like a lot of crab
are going into the tank,

so that's really good.

Of course,
I had my doubts.

[ laughing ]
I had my doubts.

That's not very nice.

I just don't want to be
jealous. That's all.

I don't want to get
beat by a girl.

[ laughing ]

I'm not your average gal.
Am I?

Narrator:
Mandy finds the crab...

These are the kind of numbers
that are gonna

take us straight to the dock.

Narrator: ...Giving them
a chance to cash in

on what could be
the highest prices in history.

Well done, mandy.

That was really,
really impressive.

Thank you.

[ men cheering ]

narrator:
Across the bering sea...

[ men cheering ]

...The american fleet
snatches up

543,000 pounds of king crab.

Round one with the russians.

What the hell?

Oh [bleep]

narrator:
As the competition heats up...

-Someone [bleep] up our pots.
-Oh, they got me good.

Narrator: On team u.S.A.,

brother throws elbows
against brother.

Johnathan:
Good job, anderson.

Well, it just goes to show

you can't pirate
a pirate boat.

Bill:
It's imperative to get out

prior to the russians
getting their crab up.

Narrator:
Those victims of circumstance

risk missing out
on the lucrative bounty.

Bill: Let's throw the line.
Time to go.

Casey:
And now we're heading in

to deliver the smallest amount
of crab ever delivered, period.

Narrator: As do the boats

sidelined
by mechanical breakdown.

We're going backwards right now.
75,000 easy.

Keith:
Oh, looks pretty [bleep] good.

Boy, that's a beautiful sight.

Narrator: But a rare few...

Keith: We've been playing games
with mother nature.

Games you generally don't win.

Narrator: ...Vault to the head
of the pack...

And we caught a lot of crab.

I got a hunch pops is looking
out for us right now.

Narrator: ...Positioning them
to become legends.

Keith: There's crab through
here, but I don't think

I've ever had this
many clocks ticking before.

Yeah, baby!

We're racing the russians.
Woo-hoo!

This fleet is not on it yet,
but they will be soon.

narrator:
But every legend has a source...

...And every bloodline
has a story.
