05x03 - My Favorite Song / The Milk Monster / Pills

it had been a morning of building

katie learned that to build a house for

blocks the walls had better be straight

or the whole thing would fall down

orbee discovered that making a tower was

tricky

because it often fell over before you

got a chance to knock it down

and they both found out that when you

build a road from your room to moms

it takes a lot more blocks than you'd

ever think

the building had been a lot of work and

katie decided that after being a road

builder

it was a great idea to be a book reader

orbee thought lying on the floor and

listening to his favorite song would be

the next best thing to do

he put his tape in the tape player and

his song started to play

orbee swayed to the music and moved

around the room and when he got to the

best part of the song

he turned the music up a little louder

katie found it a bit hard to concentrate

on the pictures with all the words of

the song so loud in her brain but

she saw that orbee was having the best

time so

she tried hard to read anyway

orbee bounced and jumped and loved

getting the beat just right and

to do that he turned the music up even

louder

[Music]

katie looked at him his music was so

loud even the pictures in katie's book

seem to be

bouncing up and down katie shouted to

orbee that

she was going to go and look at her book

outside

orbee nodded his head and bopped along

beside her

making her laugh as she left the room

alone and just feeling like the music

could fill his

whole body

[Music]

he turned it up a little more

it was his most favorite song

ever orbee started to toot along with

the music as he

danced and twirled

and mom walked by the rather noisy door

and told orbee that she was going to

shut it because

she had a business call to make orbee

smiled and bopped over that mama gave

her a kiss on her cheek

and mom shut the door and went

downstairs

in the kitchen mom dialed the number and

waited for an answer

upstairs the music was pounding it was

actually

starting to pound right through the

floor

when the person mum was calling answered

the phone mom

spoken her business voice it was a

little hard to hear but

she managed outside on the launch here

katie found her toes tapping to the beat

of orbeez song

but at least it wasn't booming in her

ear

upstairs with the loud music orbee was

having the time of his life

he had a hat from the costume box on his

head

the feathers on the hat were waving to

the beat too

orbee thought if the music was just a

little louder he could dance

even better and so he

turned it up again

by this time mom downstairs in the

kitchen still on the phone

realized that she could barely hear the

person who was talking on the other end

she apologized to them in a loud voice

so she would be heard over the music and

she told them

she'd have to call back and with that

she hung up the phone

and headed for the stairs outside

katie was starting to have trouble

hearing herself think

the music was getting louder and louder

she ran inside to ask orbee to please

turn it down and she met mom on the

stairs

mom told her she couldn't hear herself

think either and they heard toward

katie's room

when they opened katie's bedroom door

the music

was so loud they had to cover their ears

mom raced over to the tape machine orbee

didn't even notice him

he was sleeping spinning

dipping and kicking just loving his song

so when it disappeared orbee

almost fell over with surprise

for a tiny second he thought the tape

had broken them

spun around to see mom and katie looking

at each other with relief

the noise was finally gone orbee burbled

that he was just dancing

not doing anything wrong and mom nodded

her head

he was right she sat or beyond the bed

and put her arm around him

she told aubry that both she and katie

loved his song

and were so happy that it made him dance

and sing and have fun

they really didn't want to ruin his

music time but

he needed to know that the loud music

played over and over and

over again was making it hard for

anyone to do what they had to do

orbee didn't understand exactly after

all the door was closed

no one else was in the room

[Music]

mom told him that his music was so loud

that even downstairs in the kitchen

she couldn't hear the other person on

the phone

he told her that the door was closed and

mom smiled

exactly she said katie pointed out that

when she couldn't concentrate in her

story in the bedroom

she'd gone outside at first it was fine

but then as the music got louder and

louder

even outside wasn't fine anymore

orbee looked at the two people that he

loved so much

in a trillion years he never meant to

bother them

my mom told him that music that loud was

also very bad for his ears it was

important

to take care of your ears because they

had to last you a lifetime

or be apologized to everyone the next

time he played his music

he would play it quietly katie and mum

thanked him

and everybody hugged orbee wondered if

they wanted to hear it right at that

moment

in fact nobody wanted to hear that song

again

for a long long time it was then and

there that mom had the best idea

she thanked orbee for wanting to play it

softly but told him

that they needed a break from it they

were getting a bit tired of hearing the

same thing over and over

mom took the hands of katie and orbee

and suggested a walk to the ice cream

parlor would be the perfect and quiet

solution

and i have to say it was

[Music]

and from that day on all be remembered

that there are times when it's okay to

play your music loud

and times when it's important to

consider others

and turn it down the next time you

listen to your favorite song

i'm sure you'll find out first if it's a

loud

or soft music day at your house and i

know that everyone who lives there

will really appreciate it

did you know lots of animals wear

disguises

in the winter the arctic fox and the

arctic hair change the color of their

fur

from brown to white that way they can

hide in the snow

zebras also have great disguises when

they stand in a group

all of their stripes blend together

[Music]

it had been a hectic day of visitors

katie discovered that when you and your

friends run in socks on hardwood floors

a lot of sliding happens

orbee learned that when you have

visitors a lot of your toys come

off the shelves and don't get put back

neatly

[Music]

that afternoon after the visitors had

gone home

mom katie and orbee walked down to mr

singh's store to buy a bag of milk

when they got home mom put the milk bag

into the fridge

there was still a little bit left in the

jug then mum looked into the living room

and katie was sitting backwards on the

couch with her feet up

she was reading one of her favorite

picture book

orbee was on the floor he was drawing a

huge dragon with a very happy face

mom told orbee it was that terrific big

dragon

orbee smiled and told mum that one day

he might grow big like the dragon

mama agreed and tickled one of orbeez

pink polka dots

she explained that getting big had a lot

to do with eating well

and getting lots of exercise and with a

sigh mom picked up her book and

curled up in the easy chair after such a

hectic morning

this was the perfect way to spend an

afternoon

[Music]

orbee gave the dragon big

red lips and then he thought for a

moment he burbled to mom asking for a

drink of milk

mom looked up and nodded

she was about to get it for him when

orbee tooted

he wanted to get it himself her mom

smiled

she was nice and comfy and her book was

really good so she thought

it was a wonderful idea for orbee to get

the milk himself

and she added milk would certainly help

him grow as big as he could

in the kitchen orbee used a chair to get

a glass from the cupboard

[Music]

he was really thirsty so he took a big

one

[Music]

then he opened the fridge

[Music]

there was the milk jug

orbee took it out and placed it beside

the glass

slowly and carefully he lifted the jug

up and without spilling a drop

he poured the milk into the glass he

poured out

all the milk and had filled half the

glass

in a flash orbee slit a new full bag of

milk into the jug and

really carefully cut the corner off

although it was hard with a full milk

bag

he managed to fill his glass up to the

tippy top

the glass glistened invitingly

orbeez set the jug back in the fridge

and turned to his glass of milk

it was cool and tasted just right

orbee drank the whole glass down

he soldered back into the living room

and continued working on his dragon

katie was onto another of her favorite

books and mom was snoozing

with her book in her lap

[Music]

as orbee drew dragon humps on his

picture he thought about the dragon and

how big it was

he wondered how big he himself could

actually

grow to be and then he thought about his

yummy glass of milk

it was at that moment that he put all

the thoughts together

if he wanted to grow big he'd have to

eat well milk was good for him

and would help him grow in a flash

orbee was back into the kitchen he

poured himself

another glass of milk and drank it down

katie wondered if orbee wanted to play a

game of dress-up

orbee tooted that he really wanted to

finish his great big dragon picture

first

katie nodded and picked up another of

her favorite books

[Music]

orbee sat down and drew some big strong

legs on the dragon

then he drew some little tiny trees to

show how

really really big the dragon was

it was bigger than the trees i guess

orbee was

thinking that if the dragon was bigger

than the trees

maybe he could be too and that made him

think of

helping himself to grow up fast and that

made him think of

the milk again

now i know it's hard to believe but

orbee went right back into the kitchen

and filled the same big glass with milk

he had to open

a second bag because the glass was so

big

he'd finished the first after he drank

he thought

he should check to see if he was any

taller

in katie's bedroom mirror orbee was sure

he was

later as he dressed up with katie he was

sure that the night's cape he was

wearing

didn't trail on the floor as much as it

used to when he was

shorter milk was making a difference

although he wasn't too sure he had room

for it

he headed down to the kitchen to have

some more

as he hit the bottom step he heard mom

call out what happened to all the milk

was there a milk monster in the house

or be chuckled and boldly strutted into

the kitchen

he explained that he was the milk

monster he'd been using the milk to help

him grow

mom and dad always said it would

mom looked at orbee and then at the milk

containers he couldn't believe that he

had drunk that much

orbeez smiled proudly mom crouched down

and held orbee's hand she explained that

there

was something orbee had misunderstood

about milk and growing

orbee couldn't imagine what it could be

after all it was working

mom told him a whole bag and a half was

too much milk it was more than his body

could use

to grow he did need some milk but he

also needed

lots of other foods to go with it he

needed things like

vegetables meat eggs bread and fruit

mom told ori that too much of even a

good thing

was not good for anybody even him she

kissed his head

he would have to continue doing the good

job of eating well that he had always

done

growing was happening all the time and

nothing not even

drinking a bag and a half of milk was

going to hurry it up

of course orbee listened to mom because

she was smart

and knew so many things he made sure to

eat a lot of different kinds of good

foods

and he did grow maybe

not as tall as the trees but he grew up

beautifully and you'll grow up

beautifully too

if you eat a variety of good things

after all

you've grown a whole lot since you were

a tiny baby

look at the fabulous job you've done

already

did you know there are lots of different

ways to make boats go

you can row paddle

push with a pole or put up a sail

you can even pedal some boats with your

feet just make sure

somebody knows how to steer

you

[Music]

it had been a day of planning and

packing

orbee discovered that if you're hunting

for katie's shoes

you better be ready to look under a lot

of interesting stuff

and katie found out that sometimes

overnight bags

don't hold everything and they both

learned

that when you're going away you can't

take all your toys with you

soon they were in the car and on their

way

in the car katie and orbee played i spy

and

the first one to see they were great

shrieks and giggles coming from the back

seat

after they had driven for a little while

orbee told mum and dad that he was

getting hungry

dad said they still had a drive ahead of

them but they'd be there soon

they drove for quite a while before they

found micah's driveway and rumbled up

the stony path

it wasn't long before they were in the

barn visiting with

spirit micah's horse

spirit nodded her head up and down and

snorted a big hello which made

which made everybody laugh

micah showed his friends the new baby

chicks everybody threw down some feed

for the chicks to peck at

around the corner mike appointed to a

brand new pink piglet it was born

a few weeks ago

[Music]

katie noticed it was getting a fat tummy

already

orbee stuck his tummy out to look like

the piglet and his friends laughed but

orbee noticed that in fact his tummy was

feeling

really hungry now micah thought maybe it

was lunchtime and they raced inside to

see

katie and orbee and micah were very

hungry by now so

when micah's mom asked them to wash

their hands and get ready

they all shot up the stairs to the

bathroom

micah and katie were using micah's sink

orbee couldn't quite get in so

he decided to use the other bathroom to

give his hands a good wash

he was good and hungry and just couldn't

wait to have lunch

and his hands were very dirty so he used

the big bar of soap that was sitting at

the sink

and worked up quite a ladder the sink

filled with bubbles

and just as his tummy rumbled

orbee noticed a very pretty case with a

whole bunch of

pop-up lids some of the lids were up and

inside were

lots of brightly colored candies at

least he thought it was candy

they were little tiny yummy looking

things in all kinds of

different shapes and sizes and

his tummy rumbled again and i have to

say the hungrier he felt

the more he was sure that the pretty

case was full of candy and

that candy looked delicious he happily

remembered something mom had told him

she said

it was polite to help yourself if the

candy dish was open

she also said it was only polite to take

one

this was a weird candy dish but it was

open

orbee moved a little closer to the case

slowly he raised his hand over it

and was just about to pick up a big

golden

juicy one when micah and katie came in

and right away micah said stop

it scared orbeez so much he almost

knocked the container over

orbee quietly explained that he was just

going to take one

but that wasn't what micah was worried

about micah told orbee that

only his mummy is allowed to take those

and he hurried downstairs

katie and obi followed not too sure what

exactly was wrong

when they got to the bottom step orbee

wasn't too sure what to say

micah and his mom looked so worried

orbee burbled that he was sorry and then

he looked right at mom and he told

her that he was only going to take one

[Music]

the mom asked if he had taken one

and orbeez shook his head no he felt

very sad and sorry that he had

upset everybody but the funny thing was

as soon as he shook his head

everybody smiled and clapped hands

it sure was confusing for a little space

alien

mom crouched right down beside him she

told orbee

she was so glad that he hadn't taken any

because

they weren't candies they were pills

but orbee burbled that they were all

kinds of bright colors

micah's mom explained that she had

something wrong with her and every day

she had to take some pills to make it

better

she made sure to tell micah that they

were not candies but she had forgotten

to tell katie and orbee

she was so happy orbee hadn't taken any

katie wondered why if the pills were

good for micah's mom

they weren't good for orbee and mom

explained

the thing about pills was that a pill

could make one person well

and could make someone else very sick

very very sick all our bodies need

different things

orbee burble but he was glad the pills

made micah's mom better

and that they didn't get a chance to

make him sick

as everyone sat down to the delicious

lunch

micah's mom thanked orbee for teaching

her something

orbee wasn't sure what it was but he he

was pretty excited about being a teacher

katie asked what it was and micah's mom

smiled

orbee had taught her that even though

keeping the pills in the container in

the bathroom

helped remind her to take them it was

not a very good idea

the pills looked like candy but they

aren't

micah's mom said she would find a better

way to remember them than leaving them

out

micah smiled and told her he would help

her remember

orbee thought for a minute and then he

smiled and honked it

the pills had taught him something too

if he wasn't sure

what something was he would always ask

an adult

before he put it in his mouth and mom

told him that was an

excellent idea

after lunch three friends went for a

trot around the barnyard on spirit

the rest of the visit was full of

wheelbarrow rides and

roasting corn on a cob and telling some

really silly stories

when obi brushed his teeth that night he

noticed micah's mom put the pill

container away

he was very happy he never wanted to get

mixed up about pills again

when they all went to their beds they

were very glad orbee had

not eaten the pills

i hope if you ever see a pill bottle

open that you'll remember

pills can make you very very sick

only take the pills or medicine that

parents or doctors

or nurses give to you

will you remember that for me i know you

will because

you're so very good at remembering

you
