Jenny Wanted a Pet

Jenny wanted a pet so she looked up pets

in the phone book and dialed a number

please send me an elephant she said into

the telephone the biggest one you have

and she put down the phone and went to

the front gate to wait for her pet to

arrive

and she didn't have to wait long either

she soon heard a commotion coming from

the traffic downtown

she could hear it all the way down the

little Street where she lived there's an

elephant on the loose said a voice an

elephant said the town policeman where

on Earth has that come from and more

importantly where on Earth is it going

um 42 Lilac Drive please said the

elephant I'm looking for my new owner

and as he tried to turn around in the

Narrow Street he bumped into a Lamppost

and bent it right over you clumsy

elephant said the town mayor running out

of his office you're much too big for

this town what are we going to do with

him said the policeman call the fire

department of course said the mayor but

as everyone ran around in panic the

elephant just trudged up Lilac Drive

looking for number 42.

hooray said Jenny my elephant has

arrived

your elephant said Jenny's mom running

out of their little cottage

yes he's my new pet said Jenny and she

opened the little garden gate to let him

in in you come she said but when the

elephant tried to get through the little

gate he found he was far too big and the

little gate was trampled underfoot

oh dear sorry about that said the

elephant Jenny's mom was not pleased

you'll have to send him back dear she

said to Jenny before he ruins my garden

completely he's far too big to stay in

our house anyway

Jenny was very disappointed but there

must be somewhere he can stay she said

yes there must be somewhere I can stay

said the elephant sadly as he sat down

on Jenny's mom's best sunflowers

just then the fire trucks arrived Nina

Nina they went

Jenny's mom looked up what's the fire

engine doing here

the fire chief walked in now where's the

fire he said there isn't one said

Jenny's mom there's just an elephant

elephant huh said the fire chief well

there's not much we can do with an

elephant or the fire service

and he got back into the fire engine and

tried to start it up but of course the

fire engine just went clunk clunk boink

and another piece fell off into the

street

oh it's no good this fire engine's had

it

now what are we going to do

then Jenny had a wonderful idea

use Julius she said Julius said the fire

chief who's Julius asked Jenny's mom is

it me ask the elephant looking very

pleased he'd never been given a name

before

the firemen looked at the elephant but

what can he do they all said

show them Julius said Jenny use the

bucket

Julius looked at the fire bucket filled

with water which hung on the side of the

broken down fire engine then he sucked

the water up in his trunk and squirted

It All Over the Garden Jenny's mom was

very pleased that would be wonderful for

the sunflowers she said no you see said

Jenny excitedly he can put out fires

just as well as you do maybe better

and he can live in the fire station said

Jenny you have plenty of room

and you can visit him anytime you want

said the fire chief smiling big so

that's what happened the elephant went

to live in the fire station and whenever

there was a fire in the little town

where Jenny lived you would hear him

running along the road trumpeting with

his trunks so that everyone could hear

and Jenny visited him every day
