connie and the cricket

connie was up nice and low

she was playing down by the river with a

little boat she had built

oh yes

oh somebody's clapping i wonder who it

can be

connie was very curious

so she went to see what was happening

oh that's amazing it's fantastic

was doing acrobatic tricks

connie and the woodland insects watched

in amazement

oh very good

that's great maybe if i did some clever

acrobatics i can impress everybody too

just finished making my web and i'm very

proud of it

it was connie trying to jump like a

cricket

hello little spider what do you think of

my jumping

oh dear i'm very sorry

connie was sad because her first big

show had been a big disaster

but she wasn't going to give up that

easily and she set off to the mountains

in search of success

hello mr beagle what do you think of my

jumping i think i'm very good don't you

connie stop it stop hopping around

but connie was making such a racket she

couldn't hear a thing and she carried on

jumping

she messed it up again

but connie was very determined

and she went to find the ants to show

them how good at jumping she was

i'm sure the ants will appreciate my

jumping demonstration

hey what's all the noise

connie stop it who's making all that

noise out there

i'm very sorry for disturbing you i just

thought you might enjoy watching me jump

around

connie decided that impressing an

audience was much harder than she had

thought

not far away crick the cricket was

hopping along

hello honey hello crick

i've been trying to impress everyone by

jumping around like you but it didn't

work it's all been a total disaster

but connie why did you think you had to

jump around to impress people jumping

for crickets not for cows

you're right quick although i'd really

like it very much if i could jump as

well as you can

just then lots of insects came hurrying

up to see crick's

of a very acrobatics audience quick

began his show

connie thought that she would never have

learned to jump like that

oh dear i landed badly and hurt my leg

just then the sky filled with big grey

clouds and the wind began to blow

a storm was on its way

but krieger couldn't go to find shelter

because he'd hurt his leg

so all the insects huddled around him to

keep him warm but he wouldn't be able to

keep the rain off don't worry everybody

i'm here i'll be your umbrella

they all stayed as close to connie as

they could

didn't get wet

yeah

it rained hard for a long time but at

last it stopped the grey clouds parted

and the sky cleared

the cold winds stopped blowing and the

sun came out

all the insects thanked connie for

protecting them from the rainstorm

connie was very happy that she'd been

able to help her woodland friends

that night crick's leg was better and he

went to visit connie

connie i came to say i'm very happy that

you're my friend

well quick i'm very happy that you're my

friend too good night connie you sleep

tight

connie was very pleased

she had learned there was no need to

jump like a cricket to impress her

friends

cows are very special too
