much work it is to look after one really

what's involved they have to be

exercised and bathed and brushed and fed

and you have to keep their stalls clean

which is a very big job for a kid you're

right most kids don't have any idea

thank you Lindsay it's a pleasure to be

here good so who is your friend here

well I have two friends here i have

Katie and uh Lacy what kind of horse is

she she is a a Welsh uh pony and as you

can see her temperament is really really

mellow right here she is in in a studio

situation she's very very relaxed uh

that's one of the characteristics of the

breed can you teach us a little more

about her surely um you know she's

really really uh strong so what's

involved in owning and caring for a

horse owning a horse or a pony is like

having uh a big animal right and in some

parts of the city you can't keep an

animal in your house so uh what you have

to do is board it now when you have your

pony or horse boarded someplace is

they'll make sure that the the horse or

pony is fed and watered and his stall is

cleaned then your job is to make sure

that um the pony or horse gets groomed

daily all right and his feet get taken

care of and u you know the last thing

that you're responsible for is making

sure that the pony gets a lot of

exercise is it hard to ride a horse well

Lindsay it's like anything else that you

do if um at first it's really really

awkward you know and you really don't

know how it's supposed to feel and your

balance is goofy but as you practice and

practice and practice it becomes easier

and easier but um if you you know you're

serious about it and you concentrate

um you can really have a lot of fun at

it and it's really a blast so finally

what advice do you have for kids who are

interested in horsemanship well since

you can't spend the whole day on on a

horse but let's say that you um can only

ride a little bit right i would really

suggest that you go to your local

library and you know get as many books

about riding that you possibly can and

about horse psychology and how a horse

thinks and so forth so that that way

every time that you're on a horse you're

able to maximize and really use the time

that you have in the best possible way
