CLIFF: Yeah, what am I gonna
feed my kids this weekend?
NICK: Don't think
that I don't feel bad.
NARRATOR: Local
boat, Little Shell.
CLIFF: We got a picture of
our kids up there to remind
us why we push so hard.
NARRATOR: Is fighting hard to
ensure this season's success.
CLIFF: There he is! There he is!
Got him on! Oh, [bleep].
NICK: Get the other gaff, quick!
NARRATOR: And as the northern
boats' luck improves.
TYLER: That's him, baby!
That's him.
DUFFY: Yeah. Woo!
JARRETT: All right!
TJ: Woo!
JARRETT: Woo!

NARRATOR: This is...
BRANDAN: Rough as hell.
ED: Hold on! Got him everywhere!
TYLER: How did I miss it!
NICK: Woo!
NARRATOR: Wicked
Tuna Outer Banks.
CLIFF: If we hook a
giraffe, can go we in?
NARRATOR: Last season's champion
Reels Of Fortune is clinging to
the top spot with local boat
Little Shell and northerner
Hot Tuna right behind them.
And southern boat Foolish
Pleasures has yet to
catch a single bluefin.
CLIFF: Little Shell outbound!
We got Nick's daughter, Gwen.
Got Brandan's
daughter Miss London.
And I got three boys.
We got a picture of our
kids up there to remind
us why we push so hard.
NICK: It's very hard on
the family of a fisherman.
Not only are you gone a lot,
your paycheck is not guaranteed.
They worry.
I don't know of a fisherman's
wife that doesn't worry.
Hard on the young'uns
when we're away.
CLIFF: With one fish a day, we
got to capitalize on them every
day to try to put
fish on the boat because
we all got mouths to feed.
NICK: Got to roll the dice.
We're the first ones
out of the creek here.
I like to leave early. I like to
be first. There's a small quota.
And on top of that we got all
these northern boats down here
trying to get a little piece of
it.
CLIFF: Some of them boys I
think are leaving behind us.
BRANDAN: Well, better hurry up!
NICK: Give 'em
hell, Little Shell!
TYLER: Couple boats ahead of us.
Little Shell,
trying to be the first ones
to the bridge, the first ones
to the Bar,
they just want to
be like, in charge.
Some of these southern guys
aren't too happy about us
northern boats coming down here
and fishing on
their smaller quota.
Bottom line, there's bluefin
here and there's quota to catch,
so I'm here to get my share.
Got to remember, it's a
marathon, not a sprint.
We've been running this
marathon for a long time.
TYLER: Let's go
fishing today, bud.
DAVE: Coming up on the bridge.
In the event of an emergency,
lean forward wrap your arms
around your knees and firmly
kiss your a*s goodbye.
Last trip out, we got the curse
off the boat and caught a fish,
but one fish just ain't gonna
cut it.
We need to get another one.
Let's go see if we can join the
party and get something going.
BILLON: Pretty morning.
GREG: I really like to
be able to share this
sunrise with you guys.
It's a very special moment.
BILLON: Good way to start the
day. We'll take it.
DIRTY: We like it.
Appreciate you letting
me be a part of it.
GREG: Right now we're in
fifth place in the earnings.
Last season we could catch
up to three bluefin a trip.
This year, the
regulations have changed.
BILLON: Good shot!
GREG: At one fish a day, once
you fall behind,
you have to count on the guys
ahead of you not to catch.
It's a whole different game.
It's a really short season
and every day we can get
out here we want to be here.
Even if we catch one today,
we're still gonna be behind.
TYLER: That looks like
the Fishin' Frenzy.
Last year we might not
have finished out on top,
but we beat the Frenzy.
And if you can beat the
Frenzy, we can beat anyone.
Nick leaving the Fishin'
Frenzy was a huge loss.
There's no doubt about it, Greg
wants to prove that he can win
without Nick and I know that
this year he's gonna
be on his game.
DUFFY: Put us on the meat, Skip!
NICK: Frenzy, he's just up
there above us about two miles.
Come out behind us, but he's
got a little bit more speed.
I know Greg wants to prove
that he can win without
me, that it's all him.
But I also want to prove that
I can win against him, that I
had something to do with their
success.
And the Little Shell is
a contender in my book.
BRANDAN: Hopefully we get
us a bite, right quick.
Then we can go in, sell it
turn around and come back.
GREG: Well, now it's
just a matter of who's
in position every day.
You get out of position one day
and it's gonna cost you a fish.
There he is. That's a fish right
down there at 25 fathoms.
So there's some fish here.
TYLER: There's some bluefins.
We marked 'em. Jig the stick.
BRANDAN: Come on, baby!
GREG: There's another
one at 17 fathoms.
TYLER: Holy [bleep],
that's them!
BILLON: They're hungry now.
TYLER: Jig the stick.
Please, jig the,
we're gonna go off!
Come on tunas!
GREG: Any minute
we'll get a bite.
Any minute.
TYLER: Come on, Duffy!
Jig one up, bro! Jig one up!
GREG: Smells like tunas.
BILLON: There he is!
DIRTY: There we go.
GREG: How about that? We're on!
TYLER: Well, we're
getting close.
It's not like, hey, Greg's on
They're [bleep] out the window.
DIRTY: Woo! Got one on.
Been out here maybe 20
minutes this morning.
Feels good.
BILLON: Got a bite.
GREG: Did you see
him glistening?
DIRTY: I did.
Did you see me glistening?
GREG: I did.
Let's show 'em how it's done.
TYLER: Ah! They're going down.
Not how we want to start the
morning. Come on!
Keep jigging. How did they miss
it!
Come on! Come on!
There he is! Got 'em on!
Out of gear, baby. Woo!
Yeah! That's him.
GREG: I'm having a hard time
seeing the line. Is it still?
BILLON: Going right towards
the bow again, Greg.
GREG: Okay. I gotcha. I got it.
I got it now.
DIRTY: Yeah. Right in
front of the sun.
GREG: Yup.
DIRTY: We're gonna put
it in the corner here.
GREG: Okay. You can go around
with him now. Where we like him.
I like starting like that. Yeah.
DIRTY: Takin' a little bit.
GREG: Hopefully
he's a 90-incher.
DIRTY: I hope.
DUFFY: [Bleep] Yo. What the
[bleep]?
TYLER: Oh, no. What happened
there? Blew it apart?
TYLER: Oh, no. I don't know what
happened. I don't know what
happened.
The fish came up
beautifully on the stick.
Something must have blown
apart whether we straightened
out a hook, broke a hook.
DUFFY: Dude!
TYLER: [Bleep]. What the hell.
These tuna are
already heading away.
By the time we get our gear
reset, we're gonna have to start
all over and look for a new
mark.
Got the morning bite
just like we wanted and
yet again, we lose one.
We got clobbered.
DIRTY: Hold up a sec.
BILLON: Still big enough?
DIRTY: Yeah.
GREG: There we go.
DIRTY: Leader. Leader. Leader.
Leader.
Here he comes. Getting close.
GREG: Look at him
right there behind us.
DIRTY: Let's get this money.
GREG: Yeah.
DIRTY: Stick him.
BILLON: Got him!
GREG: That's what
I'm talking about.
GREG: Got it?
BILLON: Yup.
Here, come save me.
Game over.
Quick and painless,
how we like it.
DIRTY: Thank you for playing.
Nice continental shelf
breakfast this morning.
Can't go wrong.
GREG: All right, boys
we're going home.
DIRTY: We're coming
for everybody. Watch out!
GREG: Okay. We're going home.

where we needed to be, dude.
[bleep].
NICK: Dammit!
Stupid frenzy!
k*lling me junior.
DIRTY: All right, let's
see what we got here.
GREG: We started out the season
slow, but the last couple
trips, we're catching fish.
You got to get up early to
compete with the Frenzy.
DIRTY: Ninety-nine.
BILLON: Woo!
DIRTY: All right, we got us a 99
incher. Heading to the dock.
It was nice this morning,
maybe set out 20 minutes
and got us a bite.
Glad to have him.
Got to pay them bills somehow,
man. Love it. Love my job.
If it keeps up like this,
should be one hell of a season.
Yarr.
TJ: We're gonna get bit. You
better be on that thing.
With these fish down this
tide, it's gonna be game on.
We got the Fishin'
Frenzy next to us.
TJ: Yeah. He's marking them
good down in that end.
Last season, other boats said I
wasn't out as much as they were
and they referred to me as a
pelican.
The pelican is someone that
waits for the information
and doesn't go looking.
GREG: Okay. We're going home.
Still marking 'em up here.
TJ: I don't know if we should
bring 'em in and run down there.
But it really wasn't working
that well for us because we
didn't catch too much now did
we? So
this year we're just doing
our own thing, but I kind of
like the pelican thing.
Pelicans are a majestic bird.
JARRETT: Just kind of, trying
to keep an eye out and see
if we can see any fish popping
on the surface, if there's
any birds flying around.
Look for a slick, a flat spot.
You find anything out here to
work off of, it's just one more
thing closer to catching a tuna,
so you always got to
keep your eyes out.
TJ: We're gonna get 'em. All
right. We need a bite. Need a
bite.
JARRETT: Look at that big
old slick right there.
TJ: That thing exploded.
We marked 'em but
they were deep.
Oh, there he is.
JARRETT: Oh! That was it.
MIKE: We're on, that's it.
Get inside.
TJ: We're on, baby! We just went
off. We just went off.
NICK: Oh, man making
it hard on us.
TJ's tight.
CLIFF: [Bleep].
They're gonna be on fire this
year, TJ's hot this year.
MIKE: Turn that hydraulics.
Reel that in.
That was a nice expl*si*n.
That was a big one, boys.
TJ: This could be a ten-thousand

that tail rope on there.
JACK: Tail rope?
CAINE: Got him, Brit?
BRITTON: I got him.
[laughs]
JACK: Hail Mary.
BRITTON: Boy, let me tell you
something. You see this? You
see that?
It ain't very much there.
JACK: Why?
BRITTON: And y'all are gonna
make a mess of it somehow.
It's gonna all be gone before it
ever gets a chance to be grey.
CAINE: Gosh, guys.
JACK: Confidence right?
CAINE: I love you, guys.
JACK: Hey, I felt good about it.
BRITTON: We barely got this
fish on the Hail Mary, but
getting a fish early in the day
means we get to head in
and see our families for a bit
before we have to head back out.
That's a two for one blessing
as far as I'm concerned.
CAINE: All right, come on.
All right!
JACK: Ah. Door is closed.
CAINE: Door is closed.
JACK: Woo!
CAINE: We got him, guys. Buddy,
I am whipped. Oh, my gracious,
guys. Good job, bro.
JACK: Hey, Hail Mary today.
CAINE: Let's measure this beast.
BRITTON: The pay for it is good.
CAINE: All right, what
do we got here, guys?
BRITTON: 83. [inaudible].
JACK: We're on a roll.
CAINE: Woo-hoo!
JACK: Hey, I can't, it's gotta
get easier from here too, right?
CAINE: It's gotta get easier.
JACK: Thankful, great
to be a part of it.
BRITTON: You'll sleep
well tonight, huh?
CAINE: Might even have
lunch with my daddy-o.
BRITTON: Hey!
JACK: All right.
BRITTON: Confident expectation.
DALE: Come on fish.
We need a bite.
Right now, we're at the bottom
of the pack with zero fish.
To have a season like this, you
ain't gonna be in business long.
We're not in the black,
we're not in the red,
we're off the color pallet.
Bob Ross can't even paint this.
[laughs]
Ugh! Hashtag, the
struggle is real.
ED: These are called ballyhoo.
They're caught down south.
For some reason, these
fish love to eat 'em.
DALE: Hey, got a few marks here.
WILL: Good marks?
DALE: Yeah, they don't look bad.
WILL: Come on fishy, fishy.
DALE: You just gotta
drive around on this ridge
because they look fishy.
WILL: Yeah, you, yeah, keep
it up. You're making me happy.
ED: There he is.
Pow, come on, y'all.
DALE: Got it, there he goes.
Got 'em on.
ED: Oh, [bleep] the bed here.
WILL: Hang on, Dale!
ED: It ain't the right one.
Looks like it's gonna be
Yellowfin.
WILL: I got him.
DALE: At this point, just
anything to make a dollar.
WILL: Oh, I'm with you.
DALE: 40 dollars' worth
of fish right there.
This boat burns about 500
dollars a day in fuel.
Every little bit helps. It'd be
nice to get that big payoff
though.
WILL: Another one
on your right side.
DALE: Got one on?
WILL and ED: Yeah.
DALE: Maybe something bigger
will come up and eat it.
WILL: Oh, boy.
DALE: 50 dollars.
ED: Fill the hole,
DALE: The regulations say, one
Bluefin a day, but they don't
say anything about Yellowfin.
At this point, we'll take
whatever bites our line.
Potatoes. We're looking for meat
but we're getting potatoes.
Gotta keep fighting through it.
We don't really have a choice.
WILL: Yeah, we got a
Yellowfin on the stick now.
DALE: All right.
WILL: Put us in gear, Dale.
DALE: Yeah.
Yeah, I got 'em
both in gear, buddy.
That's another 50 bucks.
That's a good plate
of food, Will, for you
and the restaurant.
WILL: Yeah! Got him on the
rigger.
ED: Oh, God. Got 'em everywhere.
DALE: The first Yellowfin.
We think, "Well at
least we've got dinner."
The second Yellowfin,
"At least we're getting bites."
WILL: The old snake grabber.
DALE: By the 20th Yellowfin,
I'm starting to think, "Maybe
I should go back to roofing."
[laughs]
ED: Gotta love going to work
knowing you're not getting paid.
Love it.
There ain't a whole lot you
can do at this point except
laugh and keep trying.
JACK: We got him, boys! Woo!
BUYER: Just in time
for the rain, huh?
CAINE: That's the
only way we work.
MICAH: Let's check it out.
BRITTON: We might have
gotten off to a slower
start in the season,
but we're the only boat that's
caught so far today, so this
could be the first step in us
closing the gap between
us and the other boats.
What you got, Micah?
MICAH: Dress weight
today is gonna be 247.
BRITTON: 247.
JACK: We'll take that.
CAINE: Just right. Just right.
BRITTON: Our first fish of
the season got us 18 dollars
a pound.
That was a great way to start
the season, and we'd love
another number like that to keep
us going.
MICAH: All right,
your fish looks good.
The core is beautiful. It's
clear. That looks really good.
We do see some fat here.
The color's amazing.
That's a nice deep dark red and.
BRITTON: Okay, Micah. What's it
gonna be?
MICAH: Nineteen dollars a pound.
CAINE: Woo!
JACK: Yeah, baby!
BRITTON: We'll take that.
JACK: All right.
CAINE: Thank you.
BRITTON: Yes, sir.
JACK: Yeah, let's do it.
All right. We'll see you
tomorrow.
MICAH: Thank you. Yeah, yeah.
JACK: That's right.
MICAH: Hopefully.
BUYER: Good luck on
the next trip buddy.
CAINE: Yes, sir.
I'm going to see my pops.
DAVE: Blue screen
of nothingness.
There they aren't!
We're not marking.
ANGELINA: Do you think there's
a possibility of zombies ever
being real?
JOE: Yes.
DAVE: Yes.
ANGELINA: Do you have
a contingency plan?
DAVE: A what?
ANGELINA: A contingency plan.
DAVE: For what?
ANGELINA: In case of zombies
DAVE: Yeah, they can't swim
JOE: They can't swim.
ANGELINA: Well, no I mean
we have to worry about
like provisions and like.
DAVE: If we're in a zombie
apocalypse and we're in
a boat and we're fishing,
we'd be the only
viable food source.
You know how rich we'd be?
Unless of course there
was zombie tunas.
JOE: Right.
ANGELINA: I don't think that
that, I don't think so.
DAVE: Didn't you see Game of.
ANGELINA: In most, in most
zombie.
DAVE: Didn't you see Game of
Thrones? What happened to the
dragon?
ANGELINA: That's different.
They're not technically zombies.
DAVE: It could happen to
the tuna too, you know.
ANGELINA: Yeah, but
that's also magic.
DAVE: They could be ice tuna.
ANGELINA: Well most zombie lore
doesn't really include animals,
except if it's like spread
virally.
DAVE: Winter is coming,
ANGELINA: I'm not talking
about Game of.
DAVE: And we'll probably still
be [bleep] sitting here waiting
for a bite!
JOE: I'm more worried
about aliens than zombies.
ANGELINA: Aliens are chill.
TYLER: Knock it out of gear.
Reel in these lines. Give it a
drift or two.
Then we gotta head in.
Everyone's going in.
It's gonna be really
bad weather tomorrow.
Can't stay, can't push the
envelope. It's just too risky.
So, make a drift or two while
it's still nice out and get
ourselves in there while it's
still safe.
Things haven't
been going our way.
We lost a fish earlier
this trip on the bandit.
I have to go back
to what I do best.
These southern guys have their
way to fish and I have mine.
All I need is a rod and reel.
But we're gonna try and put down
some baits like we do at home.
Maybe it will be the
difference maker.
You know, this is
definitely something we
have an advantage in.
A lot of people don't know how
to put out dead baits for tuna.
That's what makes
the difference.
Come on, Duff, can't we get a
bite?
Oh, my God.
Duffy, take out a mackerel. Oh,
my God. Come on, baby!
DUFFY: Pinwheel, baby. Down and
tight!
TYLER: That's him, baby! That's
him!
DUFFY: Yeah, T.
TYLER: Woo! Thank the Lord!
DUFFY: Pinwheel, baby. Down and
tight!
TYLER: That's him, baby! That's
him!
DUFFY: Yeah, T.
TYLER: Woo!
DUFFY: Straight to
the bottom he goes.
TYLER: Yes, thank God.
Thank the Lord. You know, we're
just out here making a drift. We
got big weather coming in.
Trying to fish while it's nice
out and we drifted over the
right one and we got one on.
Exactly what we're looking for.
Northern advantage trying
to catch them on bait.
DUFFY: Coming right up.
TYLER: Here, bring
it right back here.
DUFFY: Put her
right in the corner.
Oh, my God!
TYLER: Oh, no!
That's scary, man.
DUFFY: He's wild, man.
Switching directions.
TYLER: That's a lot
of drag on those rods.
I've put a lot of heat on 'em.
Please, can we get this one?
DUFFY: Swivel.
Push it forward. Push it
forward. Coming around. Coming
around.
Back right. That's a tuna 'cause
he's flipping.
TYLER: That's a keeper. Come on,
Duff. Where are ya? Woo!
Yeah, baby! Get it on there,
Duff.
DUFFY: Oh, hey! Got a night
bite!
TYLER: Yeah, buddy! Woo! Putting
in that effort.
We got him hanging. Woo!
We got him.
DUFFY: We got him, dude.
TYLER: Woo!
We're gonna get in there
and beat the storm.
DUFFY: That's the idea, man.
TYLER: This fish is just
the confidence booster we
needed to get back on track.
We know what we're good at
and we can't question that.
We grind. We fish the northern
way, and we annihilate the
competition.
So nice to do it
the northern way.
A northern bait bite in
the southern warm waters.
Beauty!
DUFFY: All day.
TYLER: Look at that. Oh, that's
a good one. Beautiful fish.
DUFFY: Nice and round, dude.
TYLER: Dude, he's a roundy.
He's a fatty.
DUFFY: A little, a little color.
A little shape. A little shape.
TYLER: Grab the tape, Duff.
Let's get a measurement of this
beauty.
DUFFY: All right, dude.
TYLER: Woo! Yeah, Duffy!
DUFFY: Another one
breaks the ice.
TYLER: Pretty work, dude.
DUFFY: Woo!
TYLER: Working hard all day.
Working twice as hard as
the rest of the fleet and it
pays off because we got our
tape measurer out.
DUFFY: Hell yeah.
TYLER: Set 'em out, put 'em out.
How do you like me now? Woo!
We are working hard out here.
Pinwheel, baby.
SCOTT: You guys just made
the cut-off line.
It's good to see you, boys.
TYLER: We're doing our best
to try and represent
the north here.
SCOTT: Keep it up
you're doing good.
TYLER: Pinwheel is not a
middle of the pack boat.
Butterball, Duff.
There's a lot of season left
and we gotta get ourselves in
the game because we can't fall
behind.
What's the dress
weight, Scottso?
SCOTT: 242 pounds dressed.
TYLER: Perfect.
Way to go, man.
SCOTT: Not bad.
Let's check 'em out.
See what we got.
TYLER: Our two fish that we've
caught so far this season have
gotten us 15 and 17 dollars per
pound.
We're really hoping for a
similar price for this fish.
SCOTT: All right, boys. See what
you guys got going on here.
TYLER: Whoa.
SCOTT: A little bit of fat
in the minors, not so much.
It's not super red. The core's a
little light.
I mean, bottom line, we
can get you guys
TYLER: It is what it is.
Every fish counts.
Thank you, man.
We'll see you again.
SCOTT: Yeah. Sounds good.
TYLER: Go catch another one.
DUFFY: Let's do it.
TYLER: Come on, Duff. Pinwheel
might be behind, but we're just
getting started.
BUYER: What's up, buddy?
WILL: All right. What's up, man?
ED: How you doing?
BUYER: You guys got some,
got some Yellowfins?
WILL: Yeah, man.
Got some fish for you.
BUYER: Let's take a look at 'em.
WILL: Yeah, definitely.
DALE: We had a real
tough time this year.
We haven't been able
to put a Bluefin on
the deck of this boat.
Yellowfins are definitely
not what we're after.
Gonna offload what we got here.
See what we're gonna get for
these things and hopefully this
will keep some money flowing
on this rig to where we can
get to some Bluefins.
WILL: That's all
of them right here.
DALE: What's the total weight?
BUYER: I got 396.5.
DALE: Oh, dude.
WILL: Sweet, Jesus.
DALE: Awesome. I appreciate you
helping us out, man.
BUYER: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, man.
DALE: That's definitely
gonna keep us out there.
We had 20 Yellowfin.
The buyer's giving us three
dollars a pound for most of our
fish and five dollars a pound
for our big fish.
It's not a bad payday,
but when it's your only payday
and it all has to go to
expenses,
it's not what we're looking for.
Get this rig cleaned up. Get
this stuff out of here, see
what's busted and get ready for
the next trip.
ED: What's busted.
DALE: There's always
something broken on here.
Usually it's my heart, lately.
WILL: Oh. [laughs]
MAN: Now, here is the hazardous
weather outlook for Eastern
North Carolina for today and
tonight.
South to Southwest
winds 20 to 30 knots.
Seas 6 to 9 feet.
DAVE: As fishermen, we're
absolutely dependent on
listening to the weather radio.
rough to even try and drift
around.
When the Labrador
current meets the Gulf
Stream, it's real simple.
You've got cold water
meeting hot water.
In that type of environment, the
weather is gonna be very
unstable and very unpredictable.
Well, that's it. We're gonna
wrap it up for the day and come
back out when the weather lets
us,
and see if we can
do a little better.
BRITTON: Guys, this big,
big sea like this.
CAINE: Hold on! Hold on!
JACK: Hold on! Hold on!
BRITTON: I don't feel like
dealing with this thing.
This hot water.
CAINE: Yes, sir.
CHARLIE: There is no
way that you'll ever, ever
predict what's gonna happen.
Every day is different.
I feel like a lot of
times we push the envelope
when we don't have a fish.
You want to give it 15
more minutes. 15 more minutes.
But now, as I get older,
it's more about being safe.
It's more about
protecting my boat because
my boat's my livelihood.
MIKE: Ooh, a little
snotty out here.
TJ: It's already
about 8 to 10 foot.
Wind's blowing my pants down.
It's [bleep] gale-ing out here.
The weather wasn't supposed to
come on for about six hours from
now and I'd say it's already
blowing 30.
MIKE: We gotta get out of here.
TJ: Some guys like to fish
rough weather and take big
chances, but as the captain,
it's on me to make
sure my guys are safe.
I almost lost Jarrett
last year to a wave.
I'm not putting us in
that position again if
I don't think it's safe.
This is just gonna get
gradually worse, man.
MIKE: So we're gonna call it.
TJ: Hey, man, we took a shot.
That's all you can do is take a
shot.
GREG: So we changed,
ooh, we changed our
plans at the last minute.
It's a really short season
and every day we can get out
here, we want to be here.
But, you gotta weigh, you gotta
weigh the weather every day.
You're always worried
about the boat.
You're worried about your crew.
It's up to me to make the
right decision and get us
out and get us back safe.
A fish means nothing if
you're not safe first.
It's not worth the risk.
BRANDAN: It's a little
sporty out here.
Today, forecast, rough as hell
on the shell, but we're here.
Hope we make some money today.
CLIFF: We need to
catch big fish.
NICK: Today south to
southeast 20 to 30.
CLIFF: That's about right.
NICK: Scattered thunderstorms.
Tonight south 20 to 30.
CLIFF: It's the same.
NICK: Sunday, southwest 20 to
We'll cross that bridge
when we get to it.
CLIFF: No doubt.
It sucks, but it's fishable.
NICK: On the Little Shell,
we're all three fathers.
So, as a captain, it's a
lot more pressure on me.
I feel responsible for three
families, not just my own.
CLIFF: Yeah, when am I gonna
see my kids this weekend?
NICK: Don't think
I don't feel bad.
What about Gwen and
her school clothes?
CLIFF: I know, we
need a hundred-incher.
BRANDAN: If we hook a giraffe,
can we go in? [laughs]
NICK: I hear you.
CLIFF: Lookey there.
BRANDAN: See.
NICK: Pretty decent mark.
Jig it! Jig it, Brandan.
CLIFF: Come on,
get us a big bite.
NICK: Looking better.
CLIFF: Come on fish!
NICK: Come on, baby!
BRANDAN: Bite something.
NICK: All right. Here they come!
CLIFF: There he is! There he is!
Got him on! Get your rods up,
Brandan.
NICK: Get that tether
off if you can.
CLIFF: It's the right
fish too, boy. Woo!
NICK: See I'm not
putting no drag on him.
CLIFF: Good job jigging.
NICK: We ain't
got him yet, boys.
BRANDAN: We ain't got him yet.
That's right, ain't got him yet.
Got a bite. That's all we got.
NICK: Get it off. All right.
We're good.
Good right here.
He's taking drag, so.
BRANDAN: Okay.
NICK: Just get your dart ready.
CLIFF: Yeah, he's gonna
be on five, I think.
NICK: Here you go.
CLIFF: Oh, there he is. I see
the fish.
BRANDAN: Yeah.
Keep talking to me, Nick.
NICK: Okay. Just keep going.
Here he is.
Take your time.
CLIFF: I'm gonna
take her out of gear.
NICK: Keep going.
We're fighting this fish and
we're fighting the clock,
because the weather could turn
on us at any second. Slow right
down a second.
Don't, I'm right here, Brandan.
Nice, nice! Tail gaff! Tail
gaff!
BRANDAN: Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha.
CLIFF: Tell me what side to.
NICK: Get the dart right
here, Cliffy. Get rid of him!
Oh, [bleep]! Lost the gaff!
Tail gaff. Tail gaff!
BRANDAN: Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha.
NICK: Oh, [bleep]. Get the other
gaff, quick! Don't worry about
that.
Right here, come
right here beside him.
CLIFF: Got it.
NICK: Right side of Brandan
with the tail rope.
CLIFF: Right side of Brandan.
Come on. Real tight.
BRANDAN: All right! Woo! Yes!
I just want to go home!
NICK: I knew I'd put you on. I
had full confidence. 80 some
incher ain't he?
CLIFF: He might be
bigger than that, Nick.
NICK: I don't know.
I'm happy to have him.
All right, Cliff, go
ahead and put her in gear.
BRANDAN: Where you going. Cliff?
CLIFF: Home, baby!
NICK: Home, baby! Yes!
CLIFF: Home!
I was just telling Nick my kids
are gonna have to eat, I don't
know, whatever they can pillage.
NICK: It's amazing how it
changes your attitude ain't it?
Going from like lip low,
"This sucks."
CLIFF: We needed this fish
bad. We stayed out, and it's
paid off.
NICK: We're gonna go in there
and offload one, big boy.
CLIFF: Yeah, exactly right.
BRANDAN: Good job, guys.
NICK: We stuck it out and we
pushed through the hard weather.
We earned this one. It's one
fish a day, so it's our ticket
home.
Good deal, boys. Lookey there,
right on the top of the mouth.
We'll measure him.
BRANDAN: All right.
NICK: All right!
CLIFF: Good job, cap.
BRANDAN: That's awesome, man.
That's awesome.
NICK: All right, I'm gonna
get us pointed towards home.
Good job, boys.
BRANDAN: Good job, cap.
CLIFF: Thank the Lord.
NICK: Whew!
TJ: All day fishing, even if
you have a good day out here,
all you can think about
is coming back across that
bar, man.
The outer banks in the
wintertime, anything
can happen here.
You better [bleep]
hang on, buddy.
The outer bar is
virtually never calm.
It might look calm from
a distance, but once you
get in the middle of it,
the waves are breaking and just
a matter of a couple of hours
could make that place go from
beautiful and calm
to absolute hell.
The tide's still flooding out.
The tide's supposed to be coming
in, it's still flooding out.
That's why they're breaking.
You don't want to
push through it.
You push through that wave,
that's when you can get
sideways and you get rolled.
And you don't wanna go in the
water here. This water's 38
degrees.
You're not gonna last
very long in this water.
[music]
This is the one.
MIKE: Hold on. Holy [bleep].
Woo!
[laughs]
TJ: Just when you thought you
were out, it pulls you back in.
Gosh. Always something here in
good old Oregon Inlet.
But, we got through safely,
that's all that matters.
Oh, man!
BRANDAN: Oh, momma.
I'm coming home.
NICK'S WIFE: There's daddy.
NICK: Coming into the
dock and seeing my wife, my
mother, and my little girl,
there's no better feeling.
DENNIS: What's going on, bud?
Was it fun out there?
NICK: Nautical.
DENNIS: I heard it was brutal,
so we're real glad you got one.
Let's check it out.
NICK: I know my family misses
me and I miss them a lot too,
but this is what life of a
commercial fisherman is like.
You gotta be out there on
the water to make money.
CLIFF: Dennis, what's it weigh?
DENNIS: 265, fellas. Nice little
fish. Let's see what she's all
about.
NICK: Fish this season, have
gone for as little as ten
dollars a pound and as much
as 20.
We want a good price for this
fish to make these long hours
we're spending away from our
families worth it.
DENNIS: You got a
nice little fish here.
Just enough fat, you can
get a nice price in Japan.
NICK: Nice.
Well, what's that mean?
[music]
DENNIS: 18 dollars a pound.
CLIFF: All right. Yeah!
NICK: Yeah! Getting paid today!
DENNIS: I heard you're going
back out again in this weather?
NICK: We are.
DENNIS: Please be safe.
NICK: Thank you.
DENNIS: We'll see
you tomorrow, I hope.
NICK: All right. See if
we can catch one.
Tomorrow we'll be
ahead of the game.
CLIFF: That'll be just fine.
Just fine.
NARRATOR: Local boat Little
Shell takes the top spot for
the first time this season,
as last year's champ
Reels Of Fortune drops
below northerner Hot Tuna.
Meanwhile, Pinwheel, Fishin'
Frenzy, Doghouse's Bluefin bring
them more in total earnings.
But southern boat Foolish
Pleasures still has yet to
pull any fish across the deck.
BRANDAN: Hey, baby. You got some
news for me? You kidding me?
Hey, guys. It's a boy!
NICK: All right, Brandan!
CLIFF: All right! Woo!
Good job, Brandan!
BRANDAN: I'm gonna try and
catch you some fish and
get in there and see you.
All right, love you too.
CLIFF: I know he's
jacked up about that.
NICK: Yeah, he's
gotta be excited.
[singing sounds]
Pretty work, buddy.
CLIFF: Congratulations, buddy.
BRANDAN: Thanks, man. Awesome.
NICK: All right,
well now we gotta catch a fish.
BRANDAN: No joke.
CLIFF: You got some bills
coming your way, son.
BRANDAN: Huh! Yeah.
NICK: Yeah.
