03x10 - A Smashing Good Time

Post by bunniefuu »

CHRIS:
Oh, my God!

So here's the deal, Bronco is
a world championship contender

in the sport of robot combat.

It's kind of like
the New York Yankees of bots.

Its high-powered flipper
can launch a 250-pound robot

into the air like
it's a stack of pancakes.

This crowd is up on its feet!

[ALL CHEERING]

It has previously sent
Blacksmith 8 feet into the air.

It's launched Lock-Jaw 11 feet
and Bombshell 12 feet.

That's almost high enough
to flip over an NBA backboard.

Now, here's something
interesting.

At the top of the BattleBox,
the light grid measures--

Uh, Kenny, how high
is that thing?

It's 16 feet, Chris.

CHRIS:
Way to go, tough guy.

Now, behind the scenes,
the crew's got a bet going

that before the end of this
season, Bronco will take out

one of these lighting panels.

Will tonight be the night?
Let's find out.

You okay up there?

[♪♪♪]

ROBOTIC VOICE:
Robots, activate.

[♪♪♪]

[CROWD CHEERING]

Hey everybody and welcome
to BattleBots Fight Night,

where the only thing
to fear is, well,

just about everything.

Is everybody ready for this?

[CROWD CHEERING]

I'm joined by one of
the most feared fighters

inside the octogon,
UFC legend Kenny Florian.

You wanna know what's scary?

Take a look at
tonight's fight card.

It is stacked front to back

with absolutely ferocious
robots,

all facing critical fights

and all looking
to keep their hopes

of making the top 16 alive.

CHRIS:
And check out our main event.

It's a battle of the beasts
as Bronco,

the most powerful flipper
of all time,

faces the mighty DUCK!,

and don't let
that cute little name fool ya.

It travels around the BattleBox
faster than the bird flu.

To win, Bronco'll have to corral
that little speedster.

Both bots are 2-0,

and neither wants to sacrifice
their perfect record tonight.

KENNY:
And take a look at
this world-class fight card.

We have the almighty
Son of Whyachi

versus the cat-5 hurricane,
Monsoon,

a vertical bar from the U.K.

that's left
a trail of destruction

in its path so far.

CHRIS:
Whoa, Monsoon is a beast!

KENNY:
Monsoon's captain,
up-and-comer Tom Brewster,

has the rare opportunity
to start his BattleBots career[/i]

a perfect 3-0 here tonight.

CHRIS:
And then
hold on to your britches,

because the U.K.'s Simon Scott
and Ian Lewis return

with the legendary,
break-dancing,

head-spinning Warhead,
making its 2018 debut.

We'll also see SubZero, with
that suspect pneumatic flipper,

attempt to freeze
Red Devil in its tracks.

But Ravi Baboolal's
team has swapped

the defensive-minded plow

for an offensive claw
as another power-up

to its already
devastating saw configuration.

I feel like
I'm in the dentist's chair!

But first, we're gonna go
full throttle

right out of the gate.

Starting the night, the
Mario Andretti of bot drivers,

Will Bales and Hypershock,
in desperate need of a win,

trying to deliver
a knockout blow

to the fiery forklift
Free Shipping

and the master builder,
Gary Gin.

Ready to get
the party started?

I'm always ready.
Faruq, my man, take it away,

it's all yours.

[CROWD CHEERING]

Ladies and gentlemen,
are you ready?

It's robot-fighting time!

[♪♪♪]

In the red square,
better call the electrician

because this bot is about
to cause a blackout.

It's wired for destruction
and looks so damn elecro-cute.

It's Hypershock!

[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Ooh, Will Bale's sending
a message to Free Shipping.

KENNY:
It's a bold move,
but he won his last fight

against a cheeseburger.

He's still got a lot to prove.

In the blue square,
someone call Whamazon,

'cause this bot
is in its prime.

Coming to deliver the pain
that can't be contained,

it's Free Shipping!

[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
It looks like Free Shipping

is sporting
a new accessory tonight, Kenny.

KENNY:
Yeah, Gary added a steel wedge
on the front of his bot

to help deflect
Hypershock's disc spinner.

To win, we gotta keep the
front end of Free Shipping

ramming into that blade of his,
hopefully k*ll the blade

and then push him around.
We'll see.

Yeah, if we get
destroyed again,

we probably don't have
enough spare parts to go on.

We're 0-2,
and we gotta get a win here.

I'm hoping that we can
get to the side,

stay on him, rip parts off,
throw 'em over the wall,

do everything we can

so he never gets
an opportunity to get the edge.

All we gotta do is
get one good hit in.

They're not invertible,
and if they get stuck

on their side, they're done.

ROBOTIC VOICE:
Robots, activate.

CHRIS:
Hypershock said
it needs to impress

the selection committee
in order to make the top 16.

Buckle your seat belts.

These are two of the best
drivers in the world.

ROBOTIC VOICE:
Red team, ready?

Blue team, ready?

[CROWD CHEERING]

[ELECTRONIC BEEPING]

CROWD [CHANTING]:
Fight, fight, fight, fight...

[BUZZER BUZZING]

CHRIS:
Let the bot battle begin, whoa!

KENNY:
Hypershock ran into the
BattleBox there, into the floor.

CHRIS:
Free Shipping
repelling Hypershock

with those flames early on.

KENNY & CHRIS:
Whoa!

KENNY:
Great hit there from Hypershock,

attacking the backside.

CHRIS:
But Free Shipping not concerned,
brushes him off.

KENNY:
Now the primary spinner
trying to get going

for Hypershock, not working
the way they want it, though.

CHRIS:
No, it is far from full speed.

Hypershock gets tilted
up into the air.

Now that spinner is working.

Let's see how much damage
he can do to Free Shipping.

KENNY:
Both drivers just incredible
on the control, Chris.

CHRIS:
Oh, bigtime flames
from Free Shipping and Gary Gin.

KENNY:
See how fast Hypershock is,
able to retreat

with the quickness there.

CHRIS:
Well, he's trying to drive free

in order to build up some
momentum with that weapon.

Will Bales with such
speed and control.

Ooh, Free Shipping almost
collects him there.

KENNY:
You gotta love
the aggressive driving

of Gary Gin right now.

Oh, a little uppercut
right there.

CHRIS:
Uh-oh, there is
something wrong with Hypershock.

He can't seem to get that
primary weapon up to full speed.

It kind of goes there,
builds up to half speed

and then kind of dies, Kenny.

KENNY:
Yeah, that's gotta be a concern.

Big plus for Gary Gin, though.

CHRIS:
Uh-oh, Hypershock on its head.
Can it self-right? Whoa!

Oh, it got hot in here.
Yes, it did.

KENNY:
Hypershock only has one fork.

They had to save weight.

Flame, flame, flame.

KENNY:
Uh-oh, Hypershock in trouble,

and he's burning up here.

Now it's using the screws.

It's trying to use that
one fork to self-right.

CHRIS:
Nearly midway
through this round,

not many big blows,
but a heck of a lot of heat.

Uh-oh, Hypershock
in serious trouble,

and it gets back over
and then it gets flipped

on its head again,
great job by Gary Gin.

KENNY:
Excellent timing there by Gin.

This fighting very tactical.

CHRIS:
Oh, Hypershock on its head
once again.

[GROANS]

CHRIS:
Let's see what Gary Gin does.

He's trying to burn
the inside guts and the tires.

He's got a little fire
on the tires of Hypershock.

Hypershock is not
bouncing now. Oh, no!

Gary Gin and Free Shipping just
sit back, toasting marshmallows.

Get the guitar out, Kenny.

I'm ready
for a little sing-along.

KENNY:
I'm not sure Will Bales
will be singing, Chris.

His bot's internals
are on fire.

And he's smoking, uh-oh.
He's on fire. This is not good.

Ten, nine, eight...

CHRIS:
What an impressive performance

as Gary Gin says,
"I'm in the winner circle."

[BUZZER BUZZES]
[CROWD CHEERING]

KENNY:
Such an impressive win
for Free Shipping, Chris.

CHRIS:
A textbook win for Gary Gin.

He is ecstatic,
and why wouldn't he be?

First win of the season.

Let's take a closer look
at this carnage.

KENNY:
We knew it was going
to come down

to driving, and Gary Gin said,

"Nice try, Grasshopper,
but I'm still the master."

CHRIS:
And the MVP of this fight
was that wedge of Free Shipping.

It was so effective.

It forced Hypershock to flip,

and then Gary Gin torched him
with the flames.

KENNY:
We've seen a few flamethrowers
in the BattleBox,

but this one from Gary Gin
really impacted his opponent

and ultimately won him
the fight.

Hypershock behind the eight ball
now, falls to 1-2.

Geez, it's been a rough season.

They do have a win,
that's gonna help 'em.

They're a beautiful bot,
they're a fun team.

They are.
Uh, we'll see.

They got their work
cut out for them.

CHRIS:
All right, Kenny, coming up,

Red Devil looks to melt SubZero

with that hellish saw blade.

And of course, all action
leads to our main event,

what's feeling like a
David and Goliath battle

where DUCK! will look
to bring down the giant Bronco.

But first, we're got Red Devil
taking on SubZero.

Each of these teams are
coming off massive rebuilds.

And with matching 1-1 records,

this is a critical fight
for both to win.

Let's send you inside the box.

[CROWD CHEERING]

In the red square,
its palette is primal,

its brushstrokes are brutal,
and you'll get an earful

as it makes you say
Vincent Van Gogh-No.

It's Red Devil.
[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
This is the first time
this season

Red Devil's going with that
steel claw instead of the plow.

It'll be interesting to see
how his attack strategy changes

with the new configuration.

In the blue square,
if this bot ran a sub shop,

it would only give out
cold cuts with a side of flips.

It's the stone-cold hero,
SubZero!

[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
There's their drone, Spitfire.

You know
how those drones go, Kenny.

KENNY:
They may look cool,
but I have yet to see them

do anything
but die a glorious death.

CHRIS:
Aw, come on now!
Little Spitfire.

Give him a break, man.

Our strategy for Red Devil,

since he's not a heavy spinner,
we can actually attack him

with our front flipper
and get under him and launch.

We're going to actually try
to get around behind him,

so it's actually going to be
a driving contest at first.

I'm fairly confident
we can out-drive him.

We looked at the robot,
he's got an aluminum chassis

on the top of the robot

with some interspersed
titanium panels,

so we're fairly confident
we can clamp on

and then just let the saw
do its work.

ROBOTIC VOICE:
Robots, activate.

CHRIS:
SubZero planning on
using that flipper

to control this match
and score points,

but pneumatic flippers have
a finite number of shots, Kenny.

KENNY:
Yeah, Chris,
Jerry's gonna have to make

every flip count here

if he wants to be the aggressor
and win this fight.

[ELECTRONIC BEEPING]

CROWD [CHANTING]:
Fight, fight, fight, fight...

[BUZZER BUZZING]

CHRIS:
Let the bot battle begin!

Red Devil
with its jaws already open

and that blade
firing full speed.

Logan of SubZero
doing a nice job

of some defensive driving there,

turns the flipper
to face Red Devil.

Oh, flipping Red Devil nicely.
Great first flip.

Remember, he only has
nine or ten flips,

gotta use them wisely here.

KENNY:
Oh, that flipper
looks a little stuck, Chris.

CHRIS:
Oh, that ain't stuck,
as Red Devil goes flying again!

SubZero on the attack.

KENNY: Oh!
CHRIS: There's three.

KENNY:
Trying to get him over toward
the side of the box,

into the screws.
CHRIS: That flip

not as powerful, Kenny.

Might not be clicking at 100%
after that huge rebuild.

Hi, guys.
KENNY: Yep, Jerry Clarkin

did well to get SubZero back up
after that fight with Huge.

CHRIS:
Well, now Spitfire taking off.
Let's see what he can do.

Oh, takes a nosedive
into the box and flips over.

What's the point of
those drones, Kenny?

KENNY:
I'm not sure, Chris,
but SubZero having

a bit of trouble with that
flipper. It looks bent.

And Spitfire's...
Eh, well, he's tired.

CHRIS:
He's chilling.
Head to the beach, Spitfire.

It's nice and toasty outside.

Little head-to-head hit there.

Oh, he's clamping on
to that flipper,

and now some blade work
by Red Devil.

Oh, yeah!
KENNY: Uh-oh.

CHRIS:
Carving into that nose
right in front.

KENNY:
This is exactly
what SubZero wanted to avoid.

Oh, look at those sparks!

CHRIS:
That is putting on
quite a show,

and you better believe
the judges are paying attention.

Look at that!
KENNY: He has to let go soon.

He can't hold on to him forever.
Twenty seconds is the limit.

CHRIS:
Well, we know
it's hard to let go

when you're hanging on,
kind of like a clingy ex.

KENNY:
Uh-oh, another hold!

CHRIS:
Remember, SubZero said
this was a perfect spot

if Red Devil wants to do it
as long as I can pop you off,

but that flipper's not working,

so instead Red Devil scoring
some serious points,

Oh, and it's taking a shot
from the k*ll saws.

KENNY:
Red Devil taking it
to SubZero,

but that armor is holding up.

Red Devil not really doing
as much damage as it wants

thanks to the armor of
Jerry Clarkin and SubZero.

CHRIS:
He may not be
getting damage points,

but that control and
aggression is outstanding.

Red Devil taking
SubZero for a ride,

taking him
right into the screws.

KENNY:
It's not time for fireworks,
Chris.

CHRIS:
In the BattleBox,

fireworks never go
out of season, Kenny. Aah!

And he's holding him
over the k*ll saw.

That was a nice maneuver
by Red Devil.

KENNY:
Oh, Spitfire! Poor Spitfire! Oh!

CHRIS: Oh!
KENNY: It just got spit out

by the screws, my goodness.
CHRIS: That drone is done.

KENNY:
That's gonna hurt.

CHRIS:
But back to the closing stages
of this fight.

Red Devil on the hunt,
he wants one last cuddle.

Less than 10 seconds
to go in the match.

Red Devil's been in complete
control the last 90 seconds.

"One more chop with my blade.
Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.

Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum!"

Red Devil finishing off SubZero
like a huge bag of peanuts.

What a fight, Kenny!
KENNY: Wow!

CHRIS:
I'm not sure
the judges will need

too much deliberation on
this one, but there they are.

Naomi Kyle, Derek Young
and Alison Haislip.

Kenny, out of the gate,

Subzero had that flipper
working all right.

KENNY:
They did.
They were driving really well.

They definitely were taking
advantage of their speed

against Red Devil, they were
able to get around to the side.

They got a couple flips off,

but as soon as that
flipper went down,

Red Devil took over.

They were able to claw
and saw, and, Chris,

can we pour out a little liquor
for Spitfire?

CHRIS:
Little Spitfire never
had a chance to grow up.

Here's Faruq with the decision.

The winner by
unanimous decision is...

Red Devil!
[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
A great win for Red Devil.

They improve to 2-1

and are still in the hunt
to make the top 16.

We will have a memorial
for Spitfire

next Wednesday.
So sad, he was a good drone.

CHRIS:
Coming up next, the battle
of two prehistoric beasts,

Warhead versus Sharkoprion.

And later tonight, Bronco looks
to buck DUCK! out of the arena.

Let's see what's in store
for tonight's main event.

In the green square,
say what's up to DUCK!

HAL:
DUCK!, some people
would describe it as

a "break your fist
on my face" robot.

It's designed to survive
being abused.

CHRIS: Uh-oh!
[CHRIS & KENNY EXCLAIM]

CHRIS:
Oh, look at this, wow!

You gotta be kiddin' me!

I would assert that DUCK! is
one of the cuter robots here,

but it's
a pretty vicious beast.

KENNY:
Oh, another huge hit from DUCK!

It also looks cool.
[DUCK QUACKS]

[♪♪♪]

The next fight
is against DUCK!

He has approach angles on all
sides for us to get under,

so we want to take advantage
of that as much as possible.

It got flattened out,
that's weird.

It did flatten out.

I think it's an advantage
for him to try to scoop us.

The disadvantage is we've got
the air system tuned up.

We're probably getting

so it should be fun.

[LAUGHS]
Here we go.

HAL:
Bronco's been around
a long time.

They're got a great machine,
but I feel like

this fight's gonna go
the full three minutes

as long as we stay
inside the arena.

CHRIS: Whoa!
KENNY: Huge hit!

Our goal is always to win, and
it's always to put on a show.

[ALL EXCLAIM]

If we didn't come here to win,

I don't think
we'd be comin' here.

KENNY:
One thing's for sure,
DUCK! can take a hit.

HAL:
This year's season is
an endurance competition

to see who can make it
through enough fights

to get to the round of 16.

KENNY:
I think DUCK! might be
the favorite now,

the crowd's behind him.

HAL:
It's gone up against
the big spinners and survived

and won some amazing matches,
so don't underestimate it

because DUCK!
is very powerful.

CHRIS:
Quack, quack.
DUCK! remains unbeaten.

Up next, it's the 2018 debut
of Warhead,

facing another ancient beast
in Sharkoprion.

Sharkoprion has a mean
vertical disc spinner

and is led by one of the
most interesting builders

we'd ever come across,
Ed Robinson.

When he was younger,
he ran off to the circus,

took up sword-swallowing
and fire-walking.

Now he's here with
his robot shark.

And he better watch out, Kenny,
because the British are coming.

Simon Scott, Ian Lewis and James
Vandervelden, they are back.

And in years past,
we've seen them

eat a humanoid robot,
dance on their head...

Anything can happen
with this bot at anytime.

KENNY:
They usually have
their spinning weapon,

but tonight they're coming out

with their dinosaur
configuration.

Its massive steel T-Rex head
built to clamp down

on anything
that gets in its way.

CHRIS:
We got a dinosaur and a shark,

ready to tear each other apart.

Let's do this, Kenny.
[CROWD CHEERING]

In the red square,
he's fin it to win it

and looking to seal the deal.

It's Sharkoprion!
[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Ed Robinson,
he's coming in

with a bot
that's 85% recycled parts.

KENNY:
That's right,
it's got seven propane tanks,

two wheelbarrow tires
and two wheelchair motors

to keep that thing running.

In the blue square,
in the jungle,

the mighty jungle,
this dino creeps to fight.

Here to raise havoc
straight from the Jurassic,

it's Warhead!
[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
And there we get a good look
at that dino head.

I don't think you want
to mess with that thing.

KENNY:
No, those jaws are no joke.

Razor-sharp teeth,

and it's got
four flamethrowers in there.

Uh, yeah, that thing's
an ultimate predator.

It's gonna be a hard match,
be a real test

of driving and
operational skills.

We will go straight in
and try and get in

on one of his side flanks.

Ideally we want
to get the wheels.

Want a nice snack
for our dinosaur,

a tender, meaty morsel maybe.

One thing that
I'm really susceptible to

is giant clamper jaws,
and he is a giant jaw clamper.

What I have to hope is
that I can out-drive him.

I have to get around
the back, eat the wings,

eat the tail, and try
to disable him that way.

[CROWD CHEERING]

ROBOTIC VOICE:
Robots, activate.

CHRIS:
Kenny, those green eyes
of Warhead,

I'm scared now, hold me.

KENNY:
The eyes I'm not scared of.

The flames is what
I'm scared of.

[ELECTRONIC BEEPING]

CROWD [CHANTING]:
Fight, fight, fight, fight...

[BUZZER BUZZING]

CHRIS:
Let the bot battle begin!

Warhead already
cookin' up some shark.

Oh, he's got a hold of
Sharkoprion's head already.

KENNY:
He's gotta be careful

of that vertical
disc spinner.

Now trying to get
the flames going.

CHRIS:
Warhead, what a beast of a bot,

chasing down his shark prey.

KENNY:
He's going in for a big bite.

CHRIS:
Can't quite get a solid hold.

He just had the tip of the tail.

Oh, Sharkoprion,
what are you doing?

Warhead's got a taste
for rubber tire,

but Sharkoprion slips away,
but Warhead back on the attack.

Trying to melt those tires,
he's got a good grip, Kenny.

KENNY:
That's exactly what he wanted
to go after.

CHRIS:
So the T-Rex latching on.

I wasn't aware
dinosaurs could dance,

but these two
doing a little twist, Kenny.

KENNY:
Oh, he's trying to flip him,
Chris.

He's almost got
a hold of him again,

but nice defensive driving
there from Sharkoprion.

CHRIS:
Oh, there's the vertical spinner
doing some damage.

Sharkoprion gaining
some valuable points

chewing that dino as he got
a solid shot in on Warhead.

But you can't keep
driving your head

into the mouth of that beast.

KENNY:
Oh, that shark is in trouble.

No, go!

KENNY:
He's cookin' him up now, Chris.

That dinosaur's hungry
and he likes it flame-grilled.

CHRIS:
Oh, and spinnin' him around.

Let go of my fish!

KENNY:
Well, he's gonna have to let go.

He's got him pinned
for about 20 seconds now.

He won't let go of me.
CHRIS: You have to let him go

after 20, which he does,

but he just keeps on coming.

Uh-oh, Sharkoprion
on the attack,

but he lands right back
in that huge mouth.

Just hold him. Waste
his time, waste his time.

KENNY:
Warhead implementing
its gameplan to perfection.

Chris, just smell that rump.
CHRIS: Oh, nice!

KENNY:
Nice hits there
from Sharkoprion.

CHRIS:
More than halfway
through this round,

you'd think Warhead
with a slight edge.

Uh-oh, watch Warhead's
tail near those screws,

but he gets away from it,
now he's gonna get in it!

Sharkoprion trying
to deliver him inside

to a weapon of the BattleBox.

KENNY:
Warhead also trying
to get into those chains there

that are powering Sharkoprion.

CHRIS:
Uh-oh, Warhead flapping
its wings now.

With under a minute to go,

trying to utilize
those k*ll saws,

and check out that shark fin,
it's now flopped over.

Bad breath on that dino.

Oh, the k*ll saws get
the underbelly of Warhead.

So with just over

we got a well-cooked shark
and a very hungry dinosaur.

Could somebody give
that bot a meal?

He looks severely malnourished.

Warhead's got a big bite
of the head and he fires in it.

Oh, huge fire now
on Sharkoprion.

KENNY:
The way that Edward Robinson
made that shark,

it's just too exposed
on the side.

It's easy to be grabbed,

and Warhead taking
full advantage of it.

CHRIS:
Oh, Sharkoprion slips
right into the jaws of fire!

After this beating,
this shark must be thinking,

"We're gonna need a bigger bot."
[TIMER BEEPING]

So it will go the distance
as Warhead hangs on

to the fish and says,
"You are toast."

[BUZZER BUZZES]
This will go to the judges!

Yeah!

CHRIS:
Ed Robinson happy,
likewise Warhead.

I gotta say,
it's good to have him back.

Kenny, break it down for us.

KENNY:
Heh, this fight
was a lot of fun.

Had some cooked shark in there.

Warhead able to really expose
the sides of Sharkoprion,

eventually ripping
off those tires,

which will play well
with the judges.

Sharkoprion did get a couple
hits off with that spinner.

CHRIS:
I'll give Edward Robinson
and Sharkoprion this:

For a rookie builder,
that bot took a lot of heat,

but that shark just
kept on swimming.

It's a unique one
for the judges,

so let's head down
to Faruq with the results.

The winner by
unanimous decision is...

Warhead!

[CROWD CHEERING]

Thanks so much.

CHRIS:
Welcome back, Warhead.
What a show.

They get their first win
of the season in style.

Coming up, two of the most
feared spinners on Earth:

Monsoon and Son of Whyachi
will collide.

And after that,
it's our main event:

DUCK! puts its durability
to the test

against the most
powerful flipper

in the competition, Bronco.

[♪♪♪]

[PEOPLE CHEERING, APPLAUDING]

It's nice to get a first win.
It's a good way to start.

Be nice to have no repairs,
we can all sit down sipping tea,

but it gives us something to do.
We're not gonna be bored.

Look what you did
to my robot, mate.

That was epic, that was so fun.

About a minute in,
I knew it was toast.

I mean, I got one little
good bite, I saw that one.

[OVERLAPPING CONVERSATIONS]

I did-- I made it,
I did it, yeah!

That was what I think
BattleBots should be.[/i]

Not the expensive,

This is built from junk.

That was the most fun
I've had in 55 years.

Enjoy your robotic
shark-fin soup.

It's the smell of victory.
[ALL LAUGHING]

ED: That's the challenge.
Thank you, gentlemen.

Here we go, Monsoon
taking on Son of Whyachi.

At 2-0, Monsoon has
looked impressive

in their rookie campaign,
but tonight,

they'll step up against
the legendary Son of Whyachi,

who is 1-1
and expected to continue

on his comeback trail after
a rocky start to the season.

Break this one down for us,
Kenny.

KENNY:
Well, Chris, looking
at the tale of the tape,

we see the vast
weapon weight advantage

Son of Whyachi
has over Monsoon,

but what its weapon
lacks in mass,

it makes up for in speed.

That spinner is cranked up
to 244 miles per hour,

and we've seen the damage
it can do.

Despite the devastating
power, Monsoon has suffered

weapon reliability problems
this season.

They can't afford that
against Son of Whyachi,

who only needs one shot
to K.O. their opponent.

CHRIS:
All right, let's get you
inside the box to Faruq.

[CROWD CHEERING]

In the red square,

hi, it's Faruq,
your friendly weatherman here,

and I'd just like to say,

"Get inside your damn house!"

Here comes a Monsoon!

CHRIS:
You heard the man, Kenny!

Grab your loved ones,
get the survival kit

and head straight
for the panic room.

Monsoon's about
to rain down the pain.

In the blue square,
whenever I hear

this bot is going to battle,
I've got two questions:

When-atchi and where-atchi?

It's Son of Whyachi!

[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
You're looking at
a legendary team

with over 300 matches.

My question is,
will we see the Whyatchi

that was knocked out
by Brutus

or the Whyachi that
smashed Lucky to bits?

[♪♪♪]

Our weapons are a lot
lighter than theirs,

so we're not gonna win in
a weapon-on-weapon collision,

so we don't want that to happen.

What we want to
do is get in there

before they're at max speed,
that's the plan.

They have a track record
of winning

by kind of obliterating
the other guy, right,

so we're gonna try
and do it to them.

The strategy's
basically gonna be

just like the Lucky fight,
try to get to his corners,

rip off some parts,
immobilize him and get a K.O.

I'd prefer not to go
the entire three minutes

because that just means more
potential damage for myself.

[CROWD CHEERING]

ROBOTIC VOICE:
Robots, activate.

CHRIS:
Here we go, Kenny.

It's vertical versus
horizontal spinner,

and you can feel
the electricity in this room.

KENNY:
You sure can, Chris.

They don't schedule
many fights like this.

The way this energy
is dispersed,

it may just be the most
violent thing we'll ever see.

[ELECTRONIC BEEPING]

CROWD [CHANTING]:
Fight, fight, fight, fight...

Monsoon!

[BUZZER BUZZING]

CHRIS:
Let the bot battle begin!

Here comes Monsoon
on the attack.

Whoa! Whoa!

Oh, and Monsoon has been
flipped over,

but it has self-righted now.

KENNY:
These are two knockout punchers
right here, Chris.

CHRIS:
Look out!

KENNY: Oh!
CHRIS: Whoa!

Yes!
CHRIS: A huge uppercut,

but Monsoon's blade is down.

Oh, it rips off
a piece of armor.

[KENNY & CHRIS EXCLAIM]

KENNY: What a hit!
CHRIS: Son of Whyachi

with a bazooka shot
on Monsoon,

and that's gonna be it.

KENNY:
Wow! Wow,
call the fire department.

Ten, nine...
CHRIS: And the countdown is just

a formality at this point.

Son of Whyachi steps into
the BattleBox and says,

"You wanna go
weapon-on-weapon?

Well, I'm all in."
...two, one, knockout!

[BUZZER BUZZES]

CHRIS:
Son of Whyachi is the Mac Daddy

tonight in the BattleBox.

KENNY:
Chris, even Tom Brewster

was impressed with
that knockout.

CHRIS:
Kenny, there's always a danger

if you wanna dance
with Son of Whyachi.

KENNY:
I guess we got our answer

as to which is the more
powerful weapon here.

Some great action in this one,

the two spinners trading shots.

Scary moment for
Son of Whyachi here

as Monsoon catches him
with an uppercut,

lifts him up about a foot
and a half off the ground,

but that same shot
disabled Monsoon's weapon,

and, boy,
did Whyachi capitalize.

CHRIS:
Look at this thunderclap
of an impact here.

Both bots go flying
across the box,

and, Kenny, I've got
two capital letters for you:

K-O.

[CROWD CHEERING]

So Monsoon's got
some rebuilding to do,

but if they can get
that bot right, at 2-1,

they're still within
a really good shot

of making it to the top 16.

KENNY:
Yeah, and Son of Whyachi
is also 2-1, Chris.

They're right back in the hunt,
where we expected them to be.

CHRIS:
Our next fight
features two bots from Florida.

We have Ultimo Destructo
facing Axe Backwards.

Ultimo Destructo,
captained by Sean Irvin,

is a modular bot with multiple
configuration possibilities.

They're currently
sitting at 2-0

after two untelevised matches,
but, Kenny,

those wins aren't exactly of
the highest quality, are they?

KENNY:
No, in its first match,
Ultimo's opponent,

Valkyrie, broke down
right out of the gate,

and it won
a judge's decision

against a barely functioning
Paralax,

so this team still has
a lot to prove.

That said, let's see if they can
pick up another W here.

CHRIS:
And then there's Kurt Durjan
bringing Axe Backwards.

We've seen this bit of
crazy engineering before.

It's a full-body drum spinner
with its motor

and weapons components
packed in the 110-pound drum.

It lost against Warhawk
and then in a rumble

with Deviled Egg and Basilisk,

but when that drum
is at full speed,

it's tossed bots
every which way.

Let's see who wins the battle
of Florida here tonight.

Let's go that way
inside the box.

[CROWD CHEERING]

In the red square,
this bot's so powerful,

you can call him
a one-hit-wonder,

Mmm-bot, watch your hands, son.

It's Ultimo Destructo!

[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Take a look at Sean, Kenny.

This guy is a big character.

He's even got a different name
for each one of his weapons.

KENNY:
Yeah, looks like he's going

with the hammer configuration
tonight.

This one's called Bozo.

In the blue square,
this gigantic drum

makes a very nice hum
but sounds even worse

when it smacks your face.

Prepare to get whacked!

It's Axe Backwards!

[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Well, there's a look
at Axe Backwards.

Like I said, it's an oil barrel
with wheels on it.

What's it trying to do?

KENNY:
He says he wants
to launch up the face

of Ultimo Destructo
and "break that stupid hammer."

That's his quote.
That is not mine, Sean, okay?

CHRIS:
You're editorializing again,
Kenny.

KENNY:
I would never mess
with the Bot-Father.

ROBOTIC VOICE:
Robots, activate.

CHRIS:
If you take a look at Ultimo,

he's actually added

to the top of his bot.
Are those gonna do anything?

KENNY:
Well, maybe against a bot
with exposed components,

but not necessarily
against Axe Backwards.

Either way,
I cannot wait to see it.

CHRIS:
Which green-and-black bot
will rule the state of Florida?

[ELECTRONIC BEEPING]

CROWD [CHANTING]:
Fight, fight, fight, fight...

[CHANTING CONTINUES]

[BUZZING]

CHRIS:
Let the bot battle begin!

Oh, are you kidding me?

Now, Kenny, grab the hot dogs!
We barbecuing, brother!

[KENNY LAUGHS]

Axe Backwards trying to get
on top of Ultimo Destructo

and disable that hammer, Bozo.
KENNY: Whoa!

CHRIS:
Bozo with a big swing
and a miss.

I'm not calling
Sean Irvin a bozo.

That's the name of his hammer

which is swinging at
at least one mile an hour.

[KENNY LAUGHS]

KENNY:
Let's see if he can get
some shots off. He hit one.

CHRIS:
That drum spinner's
doing its job,

taking care of that
wedge in front.

It does have 12 gnarly teeth
on the oil barrel.

KENNY:
Now, that drum spinner
is moving very well

but the bot itself isn't,
it's kind of slow.

It's allowing Ultimo Destructo
to get in front.

Let's see if he can get
another hit with that hammer.

He's in line-- Oh!
Uh-oh, that wedge.

That wedge is coming off.
CHRIS: Nice job.

Kenny, I feel like I'm at
the Fog Bowl game in the 1980s

between the Bears
and the Eagles.

I can barely see
inside the BattleBox.

And now it looks like
Axe Backwards is stuck

between a bot
and a hard place here.

But it looks like
Ultimo Destructo

is actually using
the grinding sensation

to work against Axe Backwards.

KENNY:
That's right, but that wedge
is barely hanging on here.

I don't know how
it's still connected

to Ultimo Destructo.

CHRIS:
Whoa, big swing and a miss
by the pulverizer.

KENNY:
Uh-oh, there goes a tire.

Ultimo Destructo
is just fallin' apart

right here in the BattleBox.

CHRIS:
Oh, there goes the wedge.

It's hanging on by a thread.

KENNY: Uh-oh.
CHRIS: It's like my kid

losing his first tooth.
Oh yeah, get some.

KENNY:
Axe Backwards is
definitely doing

a lot more damage
than we've seen.

CHRIS:
You mean to our floor?

Yes, I'd agree.
I'm sending him a bill.

[KENNY LAUGHS]

CHRIS:
Closing in on a minute to go.

KENNY:
Uh-oh, looks like
those motors are burning up.

Those motors of Axe Backwards.

CHRIS:
Axe Backwards is smoking,

Ultimo Destructo ain't moving-o.

KENNY:
You really need
to improve your Spanish.

CHRIS:
Sean Irvin and Ultimo Destructo

getting counted out.
Ten, nine, eight, seven...

CHRIS:
They may have come in 2-0,

but it's Axe Backwards
that's leaving with the W.

...two, one,
that's a knockout.

CHRIS:
Axe Backwards moving up
in the world.

[KURT EXCLAIMING]

CHRIS:
Kurt Durjan celebrating

with his 3-year-old
son, Garrett.

I told you those motors
only had three minutes left.

[KURT LAUGHS]

CHRIS:
Kenny, we had fireworks
early on, literally.

KENNY:
Yes, we did. Look at those!

Missiles everywhere, except
they didn't really land

on Axe Backwards.
CHRIS: The problem was

Ultimo Destructo couldn't get
Bozo the hammer

to work really well,
and it was just taking a beating

from that 110-pound
drum spinner.

KENNY:
That's right,
he got one hit in,

and he was able to be
effective with his wedge,

but that is pretty much it.

Axe Backwards with that drum,

he's not the fastest robot
in the world,

but when he was landing
with that drum spinner,

he really was picking
Ultimo Destructo apart.

CHRIS:
Once Axe Backwards started
chewing up that wedge in front,

Ultimo Destructo became exposed

and left a few pieces of itself
behind as souvenirs.

So Kurt Durjan celebrates
his first win of the year

with Axe Backwards
while Sean Irvin sits

at 2-1 with Ultimo Destructo.

But thanks
for the fireworks show, Sean.

[CROWD CHEERING]

This is gonna be a good one,
Bronco taking on DUCK!

Bronco, Reason and Zander,
watch out for them.

KENNY:
This is a team I'd stand out
in the rain to see fight.

Bronco is sitting
at a perfect 2-0

after taking down
two heavyweights so far.

They launched Bombshell
out of the box

and then tossed Lockjaw
so high up the glass,

the crew had to use
an extension ladder to clean it.

Huge hit by Bronco!

Safe to say,
they're looking like

one of the favorites to win
the Giant Nut this year.

CHRIS:
But, Kenny, if there's any bot

that can withstand
the flipper of Bronco,

it might be DUCK!

Hal Rucker
and his daughter Hannah

are also 2-0 on the year.

They've looked durable, quick

and can be pretty frustrating
for any opponent.

The question is, how will
DUCK! score enough points

to get a win here?
Break it down for us.

KENNY:
For Hal Rucker,
he knows just how durable

his bot is, and he's not afraid
to let DUCK! take flight

as long as it's in
the center of the box.

While his lifter isn't
the strongest in the field,

he'll be counting on
his low center of gravity,

superior drive train
and shifty driving skills

to bully Bronco into
the hazards and score points.

And for Bronco, this is gonna
be a fascinating challenge.

On the one hand, we know that
flipper is absolutely deadly,

but Zander told us Bronco
only has enough power

to fire that weapon
about 15 times a match.

If DUCK! is willing
to take some punishment

from Bronco early on and test
the limits of that flipper,

he may be able to capitalize
in the later stages

of this fight and pounce
on an exhausted Bronco.

All right,
let's see if DUCK! quacks

against Bronco
or cracks against Bronco,

Either way,
let's get inside the box.

[CROWD CHEERING]

Ladies and gentlemen...

time for tonight's main event.

[♪♪♪]

CHRIS:
Team Bronco looking deadlier
than ever this year.

They must be feeling
pretty confident here, Kenny.

KENNY:
Yeah, they've removed
that side armor

we saw in their first two fights

to return
to their standard configuration.

With those front
two wheels exposed,

they expect to come out
of this fight 3-0.

[CROWD CHEERING]

[♪♪♪]

CHRIS:
Hal Rucker and DUCK!
charging in.

The question is Hal really
willing to get tossed

Bronco punch himself out?

KENNY:
Well, DUCK! really is
that durable,

and if he can outlast Bronco's
weapon here, he has a shot.

He just has to avoid getting
tossed out of the box

before he can mount
his offense.

[CROWD CHEERING]

In the red square,
once, doce, trece, catorce.

You don't want none
of this horsie.

Say hasta luego, it's Bronco![/i]

[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Kenny, Bronco took
some damage

to the tip of that
flipper against Lockjaw,

but it looks good as new now.

KENNY:
It does, but DUCK! has
earned a reputation

as a weapon k*ller,
so I'll be shocked

if it still looks that shiny
after this match.

In the blue square,

can this ugly duckling
turn into a swan,

beat out the bigger bots,
and make its season long?

The way it fights is ugly,
as you can see,

it's the classic
"break fist on face" strategy.

It's DUCK!
[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Hal Rucker and DUCK!,

we've seen him win two fights
by goading his opponents

into breaking their weapons
against that wedge,

but those were both
spinners, Kenny.

KENNY:
Yeah, and Bronco is a different
animal, to say the least.

We're about to see
if DUCK! can survive

getting dropped
out of a second-story window.

[♪♪♪]

ROBOTIC VOICE:
Robots, activate.

[CROWD CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Bronco showing off
that powerful pneumatic flipper,

looking to intimidate DUCK!

ROBOTIC VOICE:
Red team, ready?

Blue team, ready?

[ELECTRONIC BEEPING]

CROWD [CHANTING]:
Fight, fight, fight, fight...

[BUZZER BUZZING]

CHRIS:
Let the bot battle begin!

And DUCK! heading
straight for that flipper.

DUCK! getting popped right away.

KENNY:
DUCK! absorbing
that first flip, Chris.

He won't mind taking
some air time,

as long as it's in the middle
of the BattleBox.

CHRIS:
Well, Hal is
such a schooled driver.

Oh, Bronco pops himself
about eight feet in the air.

KENNY:
DUCK! so quick to counter,

maneuvering to the side
of Bronco,

the old
stick-and-move technique.

CHRIS:
Excellent driver-- Uh-oh!

Oh!
KENNY: Oh, look at that!

CHRIS:
Bronco flips himself back over

but lost a part
under the screws.

KENNY:
This is where DUCK!
does not want to be,

flirting with danger
as he retreats quickly.

CHRIS:
Well, as you said, Kenny,

DUCK! wants this fight
fought in the middle

as he taunts Bronco,
"Come and get me, guys!"

KENNY:
Bronco trying to get underneath.

It's DUCK! that almost
got underneath.

He tried to flip Bronco
with that wedge.

CHRIS:
The speed of DUCK!,
so impressive,

playing this on his terms
so far.

Bronco trying to get
under DUCK! from the side.

Oh, big jab there,
DUCK! playing with fire.

KENNY:
This is exactly
what Hal Rucker--

CHRIS: Whoa! Really?!
KENNY: What a--

CHRIS:
Are you sure? That was about
a 720 in a half-pipe.

KENNY:
Well, DUCK! can take it, Chris.

Absorbs another flip and then
turns back to face Bronco.

CHRIS:
Closing in on the halfway mark,

this strategy from DUCK!
proving to be effective, Kenny.

Bronco running out
of flips rapidly.

KENNY:
It sure is, Chris,
as DUCK! lures Bronco in

and then races out
of the danger zone,

and then zips back
in for a cheeky jab.

CHRIS:
Nice head-on collision--
Oh, no!

KENNY:
Oh, that duck can fly!

CHRIS:
Can DUCK! hang on here
and outlast

that flipper of Bronco?

KENNY:
Missed on that one. Oh!

CHRIS:
Oh, Hal Rucker continuing to be
aggressive here.

Oh, no, DUCK!'s in trouble.
He's up against the screws.

KENNY: That's not good.
CHRIS: That's not

where you want to be
with Bronco winding up.

[CHRIS & KENNY EXCLAIM]

He's out, he's out!

KENNY:
Oh, wow!

CHRIS:
Bronco does what Bronco does!

He hits, he flips,

he makes ducks fly south
for the winter!

And I will never get tired
of seeing this bot

absolutely destroy.
...one, knockout!

KENNY: Wow.
[BUZZER BUZZES]

CHRIS:
And not as if the judges
were needed here,

but look where DUCK! ended up,
right in front

of Alison Haislip,
Derek Young, Naomi Kyle.

[♪♪♪]

Zander, Reason,
knocked it out of the box.

That was awesome!
Nice, thank you.

Was this your strategy
the whole time going in?

Well, since DUCK! doesn't
have a terribly active weapon,

we decided to keep it in the
middle and get as many flips

as we could, but he was
definitely driving us

into the walls
a few times there,

and we actually got inverted
and were able

to use
our self-righting technique,

so that was good that
we were able to do that.

JESSICA:
Moving forward, any adjustments
you need to make?

I saw that you guys
started catching yourselves

on the floor a little bit.

Yeah, well, whenever
you're playing

the game of getting
under another robot,

you'll always have
a problem with the floor,

so that's part of the deal,

but we have
different armor configurations,

and we're gonna
change it up for each competitor

and see how it goes.

Congratulations, guys.
Thank you.

[♪♪♪]

CHRIS:
That Bronco is
one ducker-chucker, huh?

Ha, I'll tell you what, man,

another flawless victory
for that very powerful bot.

CHRIS:
So, Kenny, this marks
the halfway point of our season.

What stands out to you so far?

KENNY:
For me, it's the dominance

of so many of the big names.

Tombstone, Lifeforce
and Bronco

are all undefeated,
but then we've also seen

some impressive new blood,
with teams like Huge,

Monsoon and End Game
looking like true contenders.

CHRIS:
But on the flip side,

we have big names
like Bombshell at 0-3,

and Lockjaw at 1-2.

They may have a tough time
qualifying

for the 2018
world championships.

But on our next episode,
an exciting new wrinkle

to the BattleBots Fight Night [/i]
format.

It's the mid-season
Desperado tournament,

where eight teams whose seasons
have started poorly

will have a one-time opportunity
to reverse their fortunes.

KENNY:
That's right,
eight teams will have the chance

to battle it out
tournament-style.

The lone survivor who can
win three fights in a row

will earn an automatic bid
into the top 16

and will be the first entrant
to the 2018 world championship.

CHRIS:
Which team will
punch its ticket?

That'll be coming up next time
on BattleBots Fight Night.

For Faruq, Jessica Chobot,
my man Kenny Florian,

I am Chris Rose. We'll see
you next time on BattleBots.

[CROWD CHEERING]

[WHIRRING]
