Hi, everybody, and welcome
to Battlebots Fight Night,

a place of higher learning

where robots come
to get schooled.

I'm Chris Rose, and I'm here
with one of the smartest people

I know, UFC legend
Kenny Florian.

You need to get new friends,
not sure about that.

There's a reason
I went into fighting

and not
robot engineering.

Speaking of engineers,

we've got a huge
Fight Night card tonight,

filled with the biggest brains
in robot combat.

These guys have all earned
their diplomas of destruction.

CHRIS:
We've gotta start
with tonight's main event.

A rolling airplane propellor
versus an unstoppable drum.

Icewave taking on Yeti.

KENNY:
Both these bots
are already 1 and 0

and coming off of
dominant wins.

We have Icewave,
already proven that they have

one of the most powerful
weapons in the field,

and Yeti, who took out Witch
Doctor in an avalanche of fury.

There's gonna be chaos
in the Battlebox

when these two
powerhouses collide.

Plus, we've got the
Battlebots Fight Night debut[/i]

of Son of Whyachi,

one of the baddest robots
on the planet,

but there's a huge changing
of the guard on that team.

Twenty-six-year-old Ewert

is taking the reins
from his father,

He will have his entire
family's legendary

robot-building legacy
in his hands.

CHRIS:
And also, we've got
a three-on-one battle

as Al Kindle and Blacksmith
look to obliterate

the multi bots
of the Four Horsemen

with his 17-pound
flaming hammer.

And if that weren't enough,
the Brazilian bull, Minotaur

is hungry for a victory
tonight.

After a close loss
to Tombstone,

they turn their aggression

toward Fuzzy Mauldin
and Hypothermia.

But first, let's start it
all off, it's the big one.

Literally, it is Huge
against Free Shipping,

a unique bot

with giant, seemingly
indestructible wheels,

going against a forklift
with a flamethrower.

KENNY:
Huge took us all by surprise

with their first fight
this year,

using their unique design
to rip Sub Zero apart.

Those wheels
are 40 inches tall,

so the spinner is able
to hit from above.

He's facing Free Shipping
and Gary Gin,

who's one of the best drivers
in the game.

The question I have is,
will Free Shipping's

massive flamethrower
do damage to those

giant plastic wheels
of Huge?

We're gonna find out.

on in this tournament.

They have a lot
of things up top,

'cause most people aren't
supposed to hit on top.

We're gonna hit on top.

But we're pretty scared 'cause
Gary's a really good driver.

And it's just-- It's a
forklift, it could lift us.

KENNY:
We'll see what Gary Gin

there's that fire,

and you can see those teeth
he's added to the fork lift,

that'll help him
grab ahold of those big wheels.

Let the bot battle begin!

Huge a little awkward out of
the gate, but already spinning

as he hits the speed
of 20 miles an hour.

Gary Gin and Free Shipping got
that flame bursting already.

KENNY:
Some excellent defensive driving

there from Gary Gin.

He's trying to outflank Huge
and attack from the sides.

He wants to stay away from
that lethal vertical spinner.

I don't blame him.

CHRIS:
Oh wow, and that's why, Kenny,

one of Free Shipping's forks
is now bent out of shape.

That first hit from Huge
has done some serious damage.

CHRIS & KENNY:
Whoa!

KENNY:
Direct hit,
direct hit by Huge!

And now he's on fire!

CHRIS:
Kenny, oh, and he gets himself
away, but look at that!

The forklifts are all bent!
They're like elephant tusks now!

KENNY:
Wow.

CHRIS:
Whoa, and

taking some shots from
that middle spinner!

But it's still spitting
those flames at Huge!

The forklift has come off.
KENNY: Oh!

CHRIS:
Even with a mangled face,

KENNY:

is in trouble right now.

Oh, look at the wheel!

It's bending
because of the fire!

I believe that's the effects
of the fire right there.

CHRIS:

KENNY:

CHRIS:
Huge got some air

and his bot is barely

the aggressor here, though.

He is determined to break
that weapon on Huge.

CHRIS: Whoa!
KENNY: Even if it kills him.

CHRIS:

the fight, looking like this.

are now active because

we're under a minute
to go in the round. Whoa!

KENNY:

No matter what happens to it,

He's been beaten to a pulp

but he's gonna make it

An epic performance

Kenny, as far as damage goes,

Free Shipping really got
the worst of it here.

Absolutely, Gary Gin
drove circles around Huge.

Trying to get to those wheels,
but Huge was always able

to keep his weapon
pointed at Free Shipping.

Those flames and constant
aggression gave Huge

some problems, but Gary
was left with no choice

but to try to break
that vertical spinner.

Unfortunately, it kept
spinning for the whole fight,

dealing out some massive
damage along the way.

CHRIS:
What a fight.

The results from
the judges are in.

We have a split decision.

Judge Naomi scored
the battle for Huge.

newest sideline reporter,

maybe you've heard of him,
Kenny Florian.

KENNY:
All right, I'm here
with your team captain,

First of all, give your
assessment of the fight.

I think it went great.

The robot's driving a lot
better than the last fight,

so we were able to use that,

try and get around
the sides and hit some

of the flame box and the
roll cage and the softer stuff.

You are 2 and 0, man, you
are undefeated in Battlebots.

Unbelievable, what do you
think about that?

It's unbelievable, it's insane,
it's working so well.

I'm so happy.

So the judges
clearly giving Gary Gin

some control points there,

but for the second fight
in a row,

Huge inflicts
some unreal damage.

who delivered a downright

And now he's on fire!

GARY:
We had a strategy
going in there,

we thought we could get
the tines into the spokes

and maybe flame him
a little bit, but...

CHRIS & KENNY:
Whoa!

...none of that worked.

Roasted, that's burnt stuff.

It's pretty bad in there,
a lot of char, a lot of soot.

Heh, nervous about rebuilding
it, I think, 'cause...

not sure what's left over
there just yet.

MAN:
We can deal with that.

I guess.

We've got nonstop action
inside the box.

In fact, the next two bots,

Minotaur and Hypothermia,
they're getting ready.

Last time we saw Minotaur,
it was getting tangled up

with Tombstone, and it didn't
look pretty at all.

KENNY:
No it didn't, and you know,
for a team like Minotaur,

who comes in with so much
confidence, it seems like they

lost a little bit
of their swag,

so I think they're trying to
get their confidence back

with this one.
They'll take on

Fuzzy Mauldin and Hypothermia,

which got a bad case of
whiplash in its opening bout.

KENNY:
That's right,
Fuzzy is a builder

who's been in the sport
for a long time

and he likes to build bots
with durability in mind.

What better way to find out
if your bot is durable

than by facing someone
like Minotaur?

Looking at the tale
of the tape,

we can see that Minotaur's
drum spinner is a powerhouse,

but Hypothermia's clamper
and lifter combo

give him a nice
height and reach advantage.

Plus, Fuzzy's a crafty builder,

and I'm hearing he's made a few
modifications for this fight.

If Minotaur can't stay
on the sides of Hypothermia,

will they find themselves
on the wrong end

of a control fight?

Let's find out.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

In the Red Square,
it's the Bull from Brazil,

here to winotaur,

wipe your face
of that grinotaur,

smash your
chiny-chin-chinotaur,

the South American
king pinotaur,

it's Minotaur!

CHRIS:
Marco literally wrote
the book on combat robotics.

Hopefully he didn't sell a copy
to Hypothermia for this fight.

In the blue square, if this bot
were an ocean liner,

it would be the Dietanic.

Steer clear of this bot,

or you'll end up hitting
that sliceberg.

Hold...on...Jack,

or you'll catch...

Hypothermia!

CHRIS:
You called it, Kenny.

Hypothermia looks a little
different tonight.

KENNY:
Yeah, Fuzzy has
added extra wheels

to keep Minotaur at bay,

and he's traded the wedge
for a scoop on the front.

He's hoping to get
under Minotaur

with that thing
and take it for a ride.

In order to face Minotaur,
we've gone to dual wheels.

Now dual wheels weigh more,
so I had to give up something.

So I went from having two
clamping arms to only one.

Now one clamping arm
can still grab,

but I have a left-handed robot.

The strategy for Hypothermia,

it's gonna be
to outdrive him,

try to get him on his side

or diagonal with him

to see if we can break
his lifting mechanism.

We added a wedge lift,
this wedge lift's gonna try

to scoop the opponent and
feed it the drum so that it hit.

Otherwise, we'll have problems
with him clamping us

and try to move it around.
We don't want that.

ROBOT:
Robots activate.

CHRIS:
Kenny, Minotaur coming in
as one of the favorites

does not wanna fall
to 0 and 2.

KENNY:
No, and they know how important
this fight is for them.

Marco told me
that he slowed the drum down,

which will allow
for more driving control.

They don't wanna give
Hypothermia

any opportunity
to get under Minotaur.

[DRAMATIC ELECTRONIC MUSIC
PLAYING]

CHRIS:
Hypothermia and Minotaur.

The winner
moves to 1 and 1,

the loser falls
to desperate times

at 0 and 2.
[BUZZER SOUNDS]

Let the bot battle begin!

Minotaur fired up
that drum spinner.

Hypothermia taking its time,
trying to get around back.

Oh, there's a big flip!

Oh, but nice, Hypothermia
back on its head.

KENNY:
That scoop on Hypothermia's
now twisted,

oh, and again.

CHRIS:
The first two hits

from Minotaur
doing some damage, though.

Oh, the Brazilian bot's
starting to warm up.

KENNY:
Hypothermia showing
how durable that bot is,

but he's over the line.
Minotaur,

taking him for a little stroll
around the Battlebox,

and that wheel is already
suffering damage.

CHRIS:
Yep, look at that,
the left side

outside tire has already
been chewed upon.

Still functional.

But we gotta keep an eye on
that 45 seconds into the fight.

KENNY:
Minotaur loves
to chew on tires,

he's getting right back to it.

CHRIS:
He gets Hypothermia
into the rails.

Hypothermia flip-flopping
a little bit.

Almost like a politician.

Here comes Minotaur again.

Oh, he's chewing up the private
parts of Hypothermia.

KENNY:
Hypothermia
is rocked right now,

he's going right back to it.

CHRIS:
Uh-oh.

KENNY:
He wanted to get off
to a slow start, not the case.

CHRIS:
Uh-oh, watch
that left-side tire.

That thing's in trouble
and barely hanging on.

KENNY:
Well, this is
classic Minotaur,

this is the Minotaur
we all expected here.

CHRIS:
Hypothermia has not gotten
a clean shot on Minotaur yet.

He just doesn't give
you an inch, Kenny.

KENNY:
It's the driving
of Daniel Freitas.

An absolute surgeon
out there, look at that.

Attacking from the side,

he's beating up
Fuzzy's bot right now. Oh!

CHRIS:
Taking him for
another ride, uh-oh.

Some of the armor's
come off now.

KENNY:
This is a smart strategy,

he's attacking the underbelly
of Hypothermia.

CHRIS: Oh, big hit.
KENNY: Another shot.

CHRIS:
And a big flip back
by Hypothermia,

but hypothermia's gotta
start scoring some points

from the judges,
if it wants any shot.

KENNY:
Yeah that's right,

defense is not gonna win it
here for him.

We see that front wedge just
really hurting right now.

CHRIS:
Oh!

All right,
something came off.

Ah, chewing right through,
and under a minute to go.

He got the matching center tiles
off of Hypothermia.

KENNY:
Well, this is
classic Daniel Freitas,

he picks you apart
piece by piece.

Hypothermia is not
gonna look the same

when this is
all said and done.

CHRIS:
And a third piece
of white square,

not to get
too technical on you,

but obliterate
the Battlebots.

Look out for those k*ll saws--
Oh, he's--

[KENNY LAUGHING]
Oh, no!

Oh, no! Oh...
KENNY: Wow.

I want Minotaur
tested for steroids.

This is ridiculous,
look at him.

CHRIS:
This is not
the UFC world, Kenny.

These bots are clean.

KENNY:
Oh-h*! This is
target practice now.

CHRIS:
Oh, another big shot,

uh-oh, I can
see the guts explode

from the underbelly
of Hypothermia,

not that I was looking
too closely.

Under 10 seconds to go.

KENNY:
I didn't know
Hypothermia was a gymnast,

look at this!
Oh, he's smoking now.

CHRIS:
He's smoking and
going for one last ride.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]
[BUZZER SOUNDS]

What a performance by Minotaur.

And it goes to the judges.

But I think we know
which way this is heading.

[MEN SHOUTING]

We're the best! Minotaur!

CHRIS:
Kenny, Minotaur put the pedal
to the metal from the get-go.

KENNY:
Yeah, this one
wasn't even close,

and I'm not even sure

that having
their second grapple arm

would've helped Hypothermia.

Minotaur immediately got under
their lifter

and started ripping it apart.

Without it, Hypothermia has
no way of getting control

of Minotaur, or scoring
any offensive points at all.

CHRIS:
And from there, Daniel Freitas,

the outstanding driver of
Minotaur, can just go to work.

KENNY:
Those double wheels
on Hypothermia did their job

holding up against
that relentless attack,

but in the end,
Minotaur was just too much.

CHRIS:
Let's go to Faruq
with the results.

The winner by
unanimous decision is...

Minotaur!

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Probably one
of the easier decisions

the judges have made.

Minotaur, with a target
on its back,

dominating
from start to finish

and moving
to 1 and 1 in 2018.

They're back on track.

All right, coming up next,
the flaming hammer

of Blacksmith against
the Four Horsemen.

But first,
Yeti and Icewave are returning

to the Battlebox
after two dominant wins.

Let's take a look
at tonight's main event.

MARC:
We just got out of
our fight with Vanquish,

and we ended up
splitting him in half.

CHRIS: Oh! [/i]
KENNY: Man.

CHRIS:
Oh, my God!

MARC: It was incredible. [/i]
CHRIS: That's gonna hurt.

Everybody needs a chance to
see what Icewave can do first.

The tip speed of the blade
is about 300 miles per hour.

It's a 54-inch blade.

You really don't wanna
be standing in front of it

[LAUGHING]
when it's spinning.

KENNY:
Oh!

CHRIS:
Yeti using that front spinner

to Witch Doctor on
the counter attack!

GREG:
I was terrified
of Witch Doctor.

I really thought that
they were just gonna be,

you know, all over us,
ripping us apart, but...

KENNY:
Oh, wow.

...we just cleaned
the floor with him.

CHRIS:
Knockout!

GREG:
Upcoming now,
I got Icewave,

one of the biggest
hitters here.

Any side, you know, you come
to him, he's dangerous.

So there's nothing
to think about, just smash.

KENNY:
Oh!

MARC:
The key to Icewave's success
is keep spinning.

And so we just have to make
sure our engine doesn't die

and we just keep that throttle
going the whole time.

Yeti's a big robot, we're
a kind of small nimble robot

compared to him,

and I have a feeling
he's gonna be adding

some attachments for us
on the front of his robot,

but we'll have to
wait and see.

CHRIS:
Whoa, look at the sparks
and that drum spinner!

GREG:
My driving style is a lot
of what makes Yeti unique.

You know,
I've got this very expensive,

very intricate machine,

and I don't care at all
what happens to it.

My goal for this competition
is to win.

And that was not the case
last year.

This time
I'm here to take it all.

MARC:
Even though we've been
around for three seasons now,

Icewave still has
a lot to show.

Icewave is very crazy robot.

I think we have

the intimidation factor
going for us.

You hear Icewave turn on,
you should be scared.

GREG:
No one's ever been
the aggressor,

I've always been the one

leaning forward,
hitting first.

Mike Tyson said
everyone's got a plan

until they get punched
in the mouth.

So instead of trying
to make a plan

and avoid getting
punched in the mouth,

I'm gonna go punch
the other guy in the mouth.

CHRIS:
That'll be coming up later

Next up, we've got Blacksmith
versus the Four Horsemen.

Let's send it inside

it spent most of its days,

you know who it is,

it's the Death Prince
of Hell Air,

Blacksmith!

CHRIS:
Al Kindle has been
competing for over 20 years

without winning
a major championship.

Lost his first fight
in a close one to Bite Force.

Hoping to get back on
track here tonight.

FARUQ:
In the blue square,

these bots
are galloping into the ring.

Are their opponents ready?

I say...

neigh.

[SNORTS LIKE A HORSE]

It's the Four Horsemen!

CHRIS:
Ian Watts
and the Four Horsemen

won their first fight
in a rumble

against Double Jeopardy
and Gamma Nine.

For this fight,
they've got Pestilence, Famine,

and Buttercup, driven by
Ian's 14-year-old son, Sam.

Our strategy going in
is going to be to try

to cut the Numbers down
as soon as possible,

maybe immobilize one
as quick as we can and just

try to take it one at a time
and not get tied up.

We don't wanna go 0 and 2,
we wanna win from here on in

and make it to
the tournament of 16.

The goal in this fight
is to isolate Blacksmith,

feed him to the main weapons,
and chop his wheels off.

I don't think Blacksmith
is fast enough or agile enough

or accurate enough to be
able to hit us repeatedly.

He might get one or two
lucky hits in.

We're made of AR 450.

His hammer can't hurt us.

ROBOT:
Robots activate.

CHRIS:
Four Horsemen,
with two spinners and a wedge,

looking to g*ng up
on Blacksmith.

And remember, Kenny,
in order to get a knockout,

Blacksmith will have
to disable both spinners.

Knocking out Buttercup
won't do him any good.

[DRAMATIC ELECTRONIC MUSIC

AUDIENCE [CHANTING]:

Let the bot battle begin.

And here comes Buttercup, trying
to get up under Blacksmith.

And down, and Pestilence
gets thrown onto its side,

right in front of it,
took a serious shot.

KENNY:
Well Blacksmith's sides

is really on display here,
Chris.

This guy is a tank
compared to the Horses.

CHRIS:
Blacksmith,
the flaming hammer,

the flaming part is working,
I haven't seen the hammer.

KENNY:
Yeah, well
that's because Al's using

his size advantage here,
using that wedge

to push
those little bots around.

Looks like he's waiting to get
that hammer into the mix.

Trying to avoid dropping it
on one of those spinners.

CHRIS:
Remember,
in the eye of the judges,

it's all about
the primary weapon,

and the flaming hammer's
the primary weapon,

not the wedge in front
for Blacksmith.

KENNY:
That's right,
he has to cause damage,

has to use that primary weapon.

CHRIS:
Buttercup getting a little
too close for comfort here.

He's in the hammer zone,
but Blacksmith retreats.

Here's the hammer, oh!

KENNY:
Whoa, great hit there.

Oh, there it goes,
there it goes!

CHRIS:
He woke up!

Welcome to the party,
flaming hammer, where you been?

KENNY:
Buttercup able to
get under Blacksmith there.

CHRIS:
Oh! Buttercup just went
flying across the arena!

Look out for friendly fire,
little guy!

My wheel's gone.

KENNY:
Buttercup taken out
by his own teammate, Chris.

That's one bot down
for Blacksmith

as he lines up another one.

CHRIS:
Whoa, there's
a big shot on Pestilence.

KENNY: Oh!

CHRIS:
Oh, man.

KENNY:
Oh, now he's hitting,
now he's taking some shots.

CHRIS:
Oh, he just took
a shot on Pestilence.

we all know and love.

KENNY:

Blacksmith is now taking it

to Pestilence
with four or five shots.

He's gonna feel that
in the morning.

May I suggest two aspirin

KENNY:

isn't moving, Chris,

Al Kindle has brought the
apocalypse to the Four Horsemen.

KENNY:
Blacksmith
literally left Pestilence

and Famine
all over the Battlebox.

Basically just straight-armed
the little bots,

and said get out of here!

CHRIS:
You know,
it's interesting, Kenny,

because for the first minute
of the bout,

Al Kindle's fiery hammer
wasn't getting into the mix.

KENNY:
Yeah, that was
a smart strategy by Al.

Those spinners are stronger
than they look.

And he didn't wanna drop his
hammer right into the weapon

and risk damaging it.

Instead, he used his wedge
and size advantage

to plow through the Four
Horsemen like a Mack truck.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Al Kindle, a man
who has been fighting robots

for more than two decades,
gets win number one in 2018.

We've had a lot of
action this year

in the Battlebox already.

But we've got a treat
for you right now.

We're gonna run down the top


KENNY:
Oh!

CHRIS:
Put on your
safety goggles, everyone,

we're about to enter
the danger zone.

Starting off
with Number 10,

we've got
the Alaskan assassin Yeti.

KENNY:
Yeti is hungry tonight,
Chris, wow!

CHRIS:
Whoa!

He pummeled Witch Doctor
in under 90 seconds,

ripping off their ribcage

and punctuating the knockout
with a devastating hit.

Witch Doctor went flying
backward and never recovered.

Next up at Number 9,
the 2015 Battlebots[/i] champion,

Paul Ventimiglia,
and Bite Force.

They started 2018
off with a bang.

KENNY: Oh! [/i]
CHRIS: Oh, my God!

Smashing Blacksmith around
the box and getting the win.

But this inflicted
Blacksmith into the air

and really sealed the win.

Take a bow, Paul.

All right, Number 8,
you know who it is, Tombstone.

Taking on Gigabyte, and
ripping his head off!

Oh! Gigabyte
has lost its dome!

Don't worry, Gigabyte,
there's a support group

for Tombstone victims.

I have a funny feeling
we'll be seeing Ray Billings

and Tombstone
again on this list.

Number 7, Jamison Go
and SawBlaze,

giving a schoolyard beating
to his former teammate,

Charles Guan and Overhaul.

Using that saw to rip
into Overhaul's weapon

and talking a little trash.

Hey buddy, you need
to practice driving.

CHRIS:
At least that's how
they trash talk at MIT.

Coming in at Number 6,
the boys from New Zealand,

Jack Barker and End Game.

In their Battlebots[/i] debut, they
took on Captain Shrederator

and delivered this hit.

Oh!

Looks like a Mike Tyson
uppercut.

Way to make an entrance, Jack.

Number 5, Monsoon.

Another newcomer to [/i]
Battlebots making a splash,

taking on Red Devil,
and just lays him out

right out of the gate.

ALL:
Oh!

CHRIS:
Look at that form
on that backflip.

Way to stick the landing,
Red Devil.

Moving on to Number 4.

One of the more interesting
bots this season, Huge.

They really took Free Shipping
by surprise.

They took all of us
by surprise.

KENNY:
Oh! Direct hit!

CHRIS:
This hit decimated
those lifting forks

and turned Free Shipping
into a ball of flames.

Friendly reminder, kids,
don't play with fire.

Number 3.

It's Tombstone again,

facing off against Minotaur.

We could do a top 10 of hits
just from this fight alone.

Whoa!

On his way to
squeaking out a win,

Ray Billing and Tombstone
crash into Minotaur.

Holy smokes!

It sent both bots
flying across the box,

and in the process,

took a chunk out
of the Battlebox floor.

CHRIS:
You'll be getting an

All right, Number 2,
Bite Force is back.

This time, against
Will Bales and HyperShock.

And this fight...

...wasn't even close.

Whoa! [/i]
KENNY: Huge hit right there!

CHRIS:
Bite Force came
out of the box screaming

with a quick hit
right to the jaw.

And then,
the exclamation point.

Oh, my God!

Throwing HyperShock
in the air,

and even ripping out
the batteries.

Paul is taking no prisoners
this year.

his first fight of the year

He'll be taking on
Brutus and Adam Bercu,

who fell in his first fight
against Red Devil.

So if he loses,


That would be the record
right there,

he wants to avoid that.

Yeah, no, absolutely, that
would not be a good start.

I think he has
a good bot here.

Brutus is 100 pounds of armor,

so it's built to withstand
some major hits.

But Adam has struggled
in the past,

burning out motor controllers
in his bot.

He needs those to work
so he can take

that weapon to
Son of Whyachi head-on.

CHRIS:
But against Son of Whyachi,

that's not an easy task. [/i]
KENNY: No, it is not.

Son of Whyachi has one of the
largest weapons in the field,

it's a three-arm spinner
that weighs 120 pounds

and spins at 160 miles an hour.

However, Son of Whyachi's
only defense is that weapon.

If it stops spinning,
or if Son of Whyachi lands

on its head, Luke Ewert
is in serious trouble.

Son of Whyachi,
Brutus, let's get it on.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

In the red square, this
bot's been around so long,

it used to battle
in black and fight.

And tonight, it's looking
to make its Groucho Marx.

for the first time, still
using that mini bot, Kenny?

KENNY:
Yeah, that thing is supposed

to get under the opponent
and tee him up.

In the blue square,
yes, hello, police?

I'd like to report
an as*ault and bottery.

It's armed and
definitely dangerous.

It's black, gold,
it's a wedge,

it's Brutus!

CHRIS:
Adam Bercu and Brutus,

burned out his motor early
in the last fight, Kenny.

KENNY:
Brutus's motor controllers
are Adam's own design.

Hopefully he has them more
dialed in for this one.

Generally with Son of Whyachi,

the strategy is always
try to get a knockout.

I'm feeling a lot of pressure
from friends and family

and fans to get a win.

My goal is to get in there

before they can get
to full speed

and not let them get energy
in that big spinner.

Our vertical spinning weapon
is designed not just

to give big vertical hits,
but designed

purposefully to take
big horizontal hits.

I hope to just use that
as I break him with my face.

ROBOT:

CHRIS:
Son of Whyachi and Brutus.

Kenny, what do you think
of Adam's strategy?

KENNY:
Believe me, Luke Ewert
knows that Brutus is coming

right at him, but also knows
if he gets Son of Whyachi

up to speed, he can destroy
Brutus in one shot.

Son of Whyachi's on his head!

That is serious trouble,
Kenny!

KENNY:
Son of Whyachi
cannot self-right,

Adam Bercu needs to leave
him stranded upside down

if he wants a quick win.

CHRIS:
What's he gonna do, Kenny?

We've seen some good
sportsmanship so far this year.

Ten, nine, eight!
CHRIS: But the countdown is on!

Son of Whyachi
lies dormant after

that monster shot from Brutus!

Adam wants his first win
of the year, and why not?

One, knockout!
[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

CHRIS & KENNY:
Wow.

CHRIS:
In 41 seconds,

Adam Bercu and Brutus
upend Son of Whyachi,

literally, to get into
the win column in 2018.

Kenny, Brutus went
right at Son of Whyachi

in the first few seconds.

KENNY:
Yeah, yeah, he did, absolutely
went right out of the box,

rush up, this is exactly
what Adam wanted to do.

Take the blade on, not let
Son of Whyachi get up

to full speed,
and flip him upside down.

Excellent driving by Adam
Bercu to land a knockout blow.

You can see here, Brutus's
weapon absorbed the blade

and sent Son of Whyachi
upwards,

spinning over and landing
on his head. Great shot.

CHRIS:
So, Adam goes to 1 and 1

and keeps his hopes in making
the 2018 tournament alive.

KENNY:
That's a strong win
for Brutus right there.

Getting the quick knockout.

It's the moment
we've all been waiting for,

the main event
this evening,

Icewave versus Yeti.

Already this year, both of
these bots have established

that they are a force
to be reckoned with.

Yeti's one of the most
aggressive bots we've seen,

pummeling Witch Doctor
in under 90 seconds.

And Icewave used
that nasty spinner

to split Vanquish in half
earlier this year.

Not much more you could
do than that, Kenny.

KENNY:
Absolutely, looking at
the tale of the tape,

these two bots
are pretty evenly matched,

as you'd expect
from a main event fight.

The main difference to me
is weapon speed,

which reflects
their different styles.

Greg Gibson and Yeti,
as we all know,

is gonna come out fast,

get into Icewave
before he speeds up,

and get a lot of hits in.

Icewave's style is
a little more conservative.

That 47-pound blade spinning
at 200 miles per hour

is so devastating that he has
to pick his spot to attack

or he can hurt himself
in the process.

Marc wants to get around
to Yeti's wheels

and avoid that drum so he
can unleash his weapon.

Ready for this one?

Marc DeVidts is
a very smart guy, but,

with Icewave, this is a bot
that when it's working, Chris,

it can beat any bot in the
world, but I also feel like

sometimes it can lose
to any bot in the world.

[AUDIENCE CHEERING]

CHRIS:
Here comes Yeti.

And Kenny, it looks like he's
gotten a facelift for this

fight, which makes sense, 'cause
we're here in Los Angeles.

KENNY:
That's right,
he's going with his smaller

Instead, going
with that big plow

you see there on the front,

very interesting that the guy
who's all offense all the time

has made some defensive
changes for this fight.

In the red square, take your
best slap shot at this bot

Kenny, as you look at Icewave,

he's got that long blade with
the gray paint on the end.

KENNY:
That paint
is the same color

as the Battlebox floor, so it
makes it hard for his opponent

to gauge the length of
the blade while it's spinning.

In the blue square,
from Alaska,

it's the abominable,
indomitable, make you sick

to your abdominal, ditch
your sister at the prominable,

you are about to be gonable.

Get ready, get seti,

it's Yeti!

CHRIS:
Greg Gibson and Yeti,
that wedge looks serious.

KENNY:
Yeah, that wedge has triple
the amount of armor on Yeti.

That's 15 pounds of steel
he wants to use

to get under Icewave
and flip him on his head.

ROBOT:
Robots activate.

CHRIS:
And listen
to Icewave starting up.

That combustion engine
is loud.

ROBOT:
Red team ready.

Blue team ready.

CHRIS:
Here we go,
Yeti versus Icewave.

Winner improves to 2 and 0,

and can smell
making the final 16.

[DRAMATIC ELECTRONIC MUSIC
PLAYING]

AUDIENCE [CHANTING]:
Fight, fight,

fight, fight, fight,
fight, fight, fight!

[BUZZER SOUNDS]

CHRIS:
Let the bot battle begin!

Boom, Greg Gibson and Yeti
out on the attack,

trying to get in there
before Icewave.

Fire up the blade and took
a serious shot on that wedge.

KENNY:
Yeah, massive hit,

Yeti's trying to get
to Icewave

before he spins at full speed.

CHRIS & KENNY:
Oh!

Look at the air
that Icewave got!

CHRIS:
Icewave somehow stuck
the landing like a gymnast!

And uh-oh, it looks
like Yeti's not moving!

It might've lost power
in that hit.

I'm dead.
MAN: You're dead?

I'm dead.

CHRIS:
Was that the knockout blow
already?

REFEREE:
Ten, nine, eight...

CHRIS:
Yeti's getting counted out!

That's it. I'm dead.

CHRIS:
You gotta be kidding me!

KENNY:
Wow!

And that's all it took, folks.

Whoa, that's a late hit.

Knockout!
CHRIS: That is it!

[KENNY LAUGHS]
Hey!

Don't be a [BEEP].

CHRIS:
And hold on,

there's a little controversy.
Listen in.

MARC:
I didn't mean to!

I didn't even know it was
that close, man, I'm sorry.

That was a [BEEP] move,
Marc.

CHRIS:
Even Icewave didn't know
how long its blade was,

and so he clipped
Yeti's tires.

All right,
Yeti charging right out

of the gate as expected,
Kenny.

KENNY:
Yeah, smart strategy
there for Yeti

to not let Icewave spin up to
full power, but once he does,

I mean Icewave is just
a devastating bot.

That new wedge allowed Yeti
to glance off a few hits,

but once Greg Gibson took
him head-on right here,

Icewave goes flying,
but Yeti was unable

to recover from that attack.

And once he was down,
here's that questionable hit

that got Yeti fired up.

CHRIS:
All right, Kenny,
go get some reaction

from the bot builders.

All right, I'm here with

What happened there, man?
I don't know, it looks like

they just lost power
in the middle of the fight.

Everything was going well,
we got a couple great hits in,

which I think, you know,
probably jostled something loose

inside their robot,
but that's the way it goes.

Yeti's a powerful
machine, man.

Were you confident
heading into this one?

No, not at all, I mean
they have a giant drum

spinning at 5,000 RPM
on the front.

We thought we were gonna
get flipped

or our engine
was gonna come flying off

or something like that,

so we're very happy.

Looking forward, how far

builds our confidence

in Icewave again,
