01x01 - Episode 1

Post by bunniefuu »

[Roy] So how did your tooth break?

[Rumi] It was an accident.

I made a mistake.

[Roy] Okay. Don't worry. I'll fix it.

Say, "aah."

[Rumi] Aah.

[exclaims in Bengali]

[opening theme music playing]

[upbeat music playing]

[inaudible]

Already?

Get in.

What are you waiting for? Consent?

Drink your fill. This is your first time.

Make it large.

But how?

The sharpies aren't out?

Your think they're rusted?

Go close to the holes I made in his neck
and try again.

[both laughing]

Now you see what you've been missing.

Those blood bank pouches are the worst.

Bloody packaged blood.

It's stale, unhealthy and creates
a lot of plastic waste.

And no matter how carefully
you preserve it,

it never tastes this fresh.

That's enough.

Stop, my little Dracula.
We don't want to k*ll him.

And now you feel guilty.

Poor guy.

Poor guy? He's married
and he wanted to chill with me.

Maybe he's just lonely
and his wife is not nice to him.

Of course she isn't.
She must be a human too.

Now give me the bottles.

[Sreela] We drank too much blood, right?

[gasps] What if he becomes anaemic?

[Rumi] We've only taken one litre
of his blood. He still has four litres.

All he needs is a beetroot salad,

and he'll have the strength
to cheat on his wife again. Fine?

And he won't remember anything?

As soon as I bit him, he was gone.
Deep hyp.

He'll wake up thinking his inner animal
couldn't rise to the occasion,

so the girl walked out on him.

[Sreela] We'll be decapitated
if we come up here.

Ora and AD love to scare us, don't they?

Always bringing up the Cutmundus.
[clicks tongue]

[scoffs] Cutmundus.
It's been, what, 50 years?

They're just humans.

They're either all dead by now,
or they're probably on their death bed.

They're not like us
where life keeps chugging along.

To fill up gas is Rs. 200 now.

200? It was one rupee
when I was human. [gasps]

Wha...

How long has it been
since you came up, Sreela?

In the '80s,
the night of the All-India strike. Twice.

How could you stay locked up
in that hole for all these years?

I've thought so many times

that I'd go out in the sun like Nisha
and get burned to ashes in an instant.

Sreela, you are going to come up
whenever you like.

and hunt whoever the hell you want.

[laughing] Hmm.

[ambulance sirens wailing]

Madam ji, we have reached the hospital.

- Here's your payment for today.
- Thank you, ji.

[Rumi] Quickly.
Don't let AD's boys see us.

[Sreela sighs] AD,
the monochromatic leader

of our technicolour world.

Always coming downstairs
with his wretched rule book.

There is only one rule...
that no one is allowed to go up there.

It's amazing that in spite
of being a human,

he's always ordering us around.

In 1684, right under the pretext
of discovering Kolkata,

the British were in fact looting it.

Mr. Job Charnock decided to send
a group of British hunters

to track down and k*ll
your supreme leader Ora.

That's when my great-great-
great-great-great-great grandfather,

the landlord, Raja Narayan Deb

took Ora and his comrades under his wing

and offered them shelter,
here, underground.

As your protector and provider,

I take great care
to fulfill all your demands.

Gadgets, entertainment, clothes,
books, bedding,

and most importantly, lots of blood.

Fatty, alcoholic, negative, positive,
every type available.

Goodnight, Chitrabhanu.

Hey, Rumi. When did you go up?

And how did I not notice, huh?

- One minute. Sreela?
- Hi.

Is she also now a member
of your rebel g*ng?

Tigresses. And the more,
the bloody merrier, CB.

Well done.

But I'm not going to let you both
back in today, okay?

Nice try.

Sreela? Here you go. Hot and fresh.

20-minute old blood taken from
a healthy 40-year old man.

Hey.
There's no relationship
closer than a blood relation.

Blood ties, a bond forged in blood.

If anyone asks, say you're coming back
from the blood bar through the library.

Okay. And you don't forget to add a mark
in your pod to show your latest...

[Rumi shushes]

I'll see you later.

Rumi, I know exactly where you went.

So? What are you going to do?

I'll tell Ora.

And Ora will tell AD.

And AD will give the order to decap you.

And I'll take your head in my hands
and rip it from your body.

Talks like a king
but acts like a little mouse.

[scoffs]

Wait till my billboards
are all over Mumbai.

Then we'll find out who's the mouse.

Yeah, great.

Hey. Do you have feet or wings?
You never stay still.

Looks like we're going to have to start
a butterfly brigade

for you fluttering beauties.

[chuckles] David.
If Meera were here, she would say,

"Tigresses can never be butterflies."

My my. [laughing]

You know, whenever I hear Meera's name,
I get very hungry.

Are we going to get
breakfast today or not?

I'll go and wake her up.

[dramatic music playing]

Good night.

Mmm. Sorry I got a bit late.

And David's up and hungry.

He's at the blood bar.

I thought I'd better warn you.

Talking to David is like drowning
in an ocean of tears.

I don't understand.

Back when blood was in short supply,

both of you would feed off
each other's energy, and that's fine.

But what's the problem now?

There's a regular supply of blood now.

There's frozen and, uh...

fresh as well.

I know.

But to excel in the art of seduction,

one needs to hone one's skills
all the time.

So how was it up there with Sreela?

Sreela was a little nervous

but she'll become a pro
after she assists me a few times.

I have heard a rumor that AD's boys

saw the tigresses sneaking out at night.

AD sent word to Ora.

Since Ora was in deep slumber,
I received the news.

We have to be more careful from tomorrow.

- Tomorrow?
- Mmm.

Please come with me tomorrow.
Come on. Just for one night.

Tangra party. The night of the year.

You know very well that I stopped
going up a long time ago.

Why don't you take Sreela with you?

But don't take any risks up there.

We don't want any humans getting k*lled.

We don't want to convert them either.

And we don't want any of them...

Any of them finding out who we really are
and where we live.

Wow!

[beeps]

[Maa Roy] Babu Shona.

It's twelve o'clock. Get up.

[chanting]

Shubol Da? Breakfast.

[Maa Roy] It's very late.
You might as well have lunch.

[sighs]

Listen, did you look at the journals
that I sent up to your room?

Journals? Uh. When?

Forget it.
I doubt they'll be of any use to you.

Wait.

Keep stirring it. Don't let it burn.

Listen. You're meeting Adu's daughter
this evening.

This evening? Daughter? Adu who?

Adu. My old friend.

You've been to their house before
when his wife was well.

Back then our Babu Shona was in grade two.

In little shorts. You looked adorable
with a side parting.

And now you have this crow's nest.

- Disgusting.
- Ma!

So you're meeting her this evening.

Here. Her name is Mithila.

- Mom?
- Just look at her.

Isn't she beautiful?

Baba, my clinic?

It will remain closed.

I called your receptionist
and told her not to come.

You only had one appointment.
I got it canceled.

If the patient is not in too much pain,
he'll come tomorrow.

And if it's unbearable,
he can go to a good dentist.

And listen. Wear something decent
for a change.

[Maa Roy] I've ironed
the floral print shirt for you.

[Baba Roy] The boy's about to choose
a bride for himself,

and he can't choose what to wear.

[Maa Roy] Whats the problem
in me choosing?

God knows what he'll wear
if we leave it to him.

- Eggs and butter were too cold.
- Sorry?

Well, in this brownie batter

the eggs and butter
were not at room temperature.

So if you see the texture...

Cool. Cool. Cool.

So what are you doing tomorrow night?

Clinic and then after that back home.

Then let's go for the Tangra party.

Tangra where?

The all-night party at China Town.

China Town.

China Town I know, but party...

[gasps] You've never been to it?

Oh God! It's lit AF.

And if you come with me,

then my dad will allow me to go too.

But my dad won't allow me to go.

You're what, like, 28?

No, I'm 26.

So you're telling me a 26-year-old guy

needs his parent's permission
to go out at night.

I'll tell them that we're going
to Dover Lane. That should be okay.

What lane?

Dover Lane. Music conference.
Classical music festival.

Whatever. Works. Amaze!

Amaze.

[dance music playing]

[bartender] Can I get you a drink, sir?

Some shots maybe?

No, no, no. That's fine.

- Thank you for asking though.
- All right.

Can I maybe make a drink for you?

A drink for me?

Yeah. I mean, I have nothing else to do,

so if you allow me,
I'll make a drink for you.

Oh...

All right. What do you need?

I need a drink.

Could you get me the whisky?

Thank you.

Can I get an egg and a glass?

Hope you like it.

Yes. Here you go.

How's it?

Sir, this is amazing.

You're going to put me out of a job.

I think your gum is bleeding.

You should get it checked.

Do you have a pen?

No, sir.

- Can I use this?
- Yeah, please.

I'm a dentist.

Uh...

So, take an appointment
and come to the clinic.

We're not usually busy.

Yep.

Well, thank you.

Thank you for all this.

Excuse me? Hi.
Can I have an empty glass please?

[bartender] Yes, ma'am.

Hi.

[laughing] Hey.

Can we go somewhere private?

Where?

Somewhere private.

Okay. Sure.

Rumi, what's wrong?

- Huh?
- I don't know.

His neck felt very different.

It was as if my tooth struck metal and...

it broke off.

[gasps]

Show me.

Hmm.

It's quite badly broken.

If Abdul Hakim were here,
he'd have fixed it in a jiffy.

Don't worry.

We will find some other way to fix it.

And both of you make sure
that nobody finds out anything about this.

If AD and Ora get even a whiff of this,

they'll sever that pretty little head
of yours.

[Maa Roy] Wow. Babu Shona is up bright
and early today.

What time did you get back?

2:45 a.m.

You left the show
before the last performance?

It was Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, right?

Yeah, yeah, but no, I didn't see it.

Umm, Mitali had to go back home.

Mitali?

Mithila, Mithila.

Yeah. Mithila wanted to go back home.

Why? Doesn't she enjoy classical music?

Of course she does.

Hey, listen. What did she wear?

Uh, saree.

Show me.

Picture, I forgot to take a picture.

I'll take it next time. Promise.

Next time. Very optimistic.

Things you say, really.

If Mahakali wishes, our Babu Shona
will marry Mithila this year.

And next year, we'll get Baby Shona.

Ma.

Isn't this Adu's daughter?

This picture is from last night.

[Maa Roy] It's in the paper? Let me see.
Show. Show me.

That's Mithila. But where's the saree?

So you left Ustad Amjad Ali Khan

to go and dance
to some filthy music in Tangra?

She wanted to go.

And you went along?

If she jumps off a bridge,
you're going to jump too.

But Babu Shona,
this doesn't look like you.

Who's he?

That's her boyfriend.

She has no intention of marrying me.

It's not imaginary. It's absolutely true.

Just like air.

Hey, can you see the air around you?

[Boy] Air? I can't see it.

Not now.

Only at night.

When everyone is fast asleep,

that's when they come out.

[screeching and growling]

Because sunlight makes their skin...

Their, their skin...

[roaring and growling]

Soft skin.

Like that of a waxed doll.

Tell us about the police station
when they attacked all of you.

Please tell us about it, old Dadu.

Who are you calling old?

Those... Those monsters never grow old.

Because once they change,
time stands still.

Like a statue.

And they drink a lot of blood.

From morning to night.

A lot of blood.

[chuckles] She's scared.

And those monsters teeth...

What happened to their teeth, Dadu?

They have teeth about the size
of my little finger.

But they're so sharp that...

Baba, you're talking
the same old nonsense again.

I leave you alone for five minutes
and you're back at it.

Come on. Get up.

No, no, I haven't finished yet.

- They...
- Yeah. Talk about them later. Come on.

Come on.

[laughing]

Hey. Shut up. Shut up!

Don't your parents send you to school?

Should I come back in my uniform?
Tell me. No, right? Out.

Baba, you can tie your own drawstring
and an elastic band pokes you.

Why can't you just wear shorts
and sit peacefully at home?

Where is Uma?

You think I would be here
if Uma was alive? Huh?

Who are you?

Baba, I can't spend all day
refreshing your memory.

I'll lose my job.

I'm going to be late again.
Come on now. Come on.

Careful.

[police officer] So what happened
after that?

She came and attacked you.
How? Like a bear.

- Like a demon.
- Like a demon?

As soon as she kissed me, sir, I...

Oh, so she kissed you.

Congratulations, buddy.
Must have been your first time.

Not the first time.
I've kissed my ex-girlfriend before.

- His ex-girlfriend.
- [all laughing]

Yeah. Well, I had thyroid cancer actually.
That's why she left me.

Um, she was very beautiful.

Who? Your ex-girlfriend?

No, the demon.

That's amazing.

A beautiful demon.

Yeah, really, sir.

She came straight up to me
and started kissing me on the neck.

I don't really remember anything
after that.

Maybe this prosthetic neck turned her off.

But just look at what she did to me.

Now my whole body feels like
it's burning inside.

That's why I thought I'd better
report this to you.

But this police station
is for finding human beings, buddy.

Not demons. What to do?

Put Pal on the case, sir.
He's perfect for him.

Sub Inspector Kartik Pal.

The jewel in our crown.

Don't think I didn't notice
that you came in after 11:30 a.m.

Have you slept at all,
or have you only been drinking?

Listen, see that man there?

He will take down your complaint.

He's our resident demon expert.

He has learned everything from his father.

- Defective gene, you know.
- [all laughing]

Hey. Come on, come on.
Show's over. Get back to work.

THEY EXIST

[David] He was the resident doctor here.

Expert in Unani medicine.

Back in the '90s,
I had a rare blood disease

and he's the one who cured it.

He took blood from three or four people
down here and made a c*ck out of it.

[scoffs] Abdul was a magician.

But why did they decap him?

He made the mistake of falling in love
with a human being.

He would go up every night
and meet her secretly.

And Ora found out?

And then AD was informed.

He assigned the task
of beheading Abdul to me.

But I couldn't do it.

How could I do that to Abdul?

So then?

Abdul Miyan?

This is fresh for you. David sent me here.

Put it there.

Show me your eyes.

What exactly did he send you here for?

Uh, for my tooth.

Come closer.

Sit down.

The nerve is still intact.

If you can find a tooth just like yours
and reattach it, you will be fine.

An artificial tooth won't do.

If the nerve is exposed for too long,
it'll get infected.

And if that happens,
your blood could get poisoned.

Hmm?

But I cannot do anything to fix it.

But I promise I won't tell anyone
about you.

[laughs] It's not that, my child.

Take this blanket off me.

I may have lost my love,

but I sure found Luna Luka.

The Cutmundu leader?

The Cutmundu's witch.

As soon as she heard I was up here,
she turned up with her assassins.

That bloody witch.

At least we know what she is.

Because, honestly, the most dangerous ones

are those who appear
to be one thing and are really another.

The police and the Cutmundus

are still trying to hunt you down
like a pack of ravenous wolves.

And the day they smell your scent
and follow you down here,

it will be the end of this family.

So now tell me.

Who is the enemy?
Who is betraying us?

Who is going up again and again
and trying to destroy this family of ours?

Who?

Why do I get the feeling that there are
a few family members missing?

Hey. What's your name, son?

Amar.

Amar, count and tell me if all 30 members
of this family are present here or not.

One,

two, three,

four,

Rumi, what are you doing here?

AD's down there in the main hall.

...eight, nine, ten.

Eleven, 12, 13...

14, 15, 16, 17...

Its going be so much fun when one member
is found missing at this meeting.

...twenty-two...

Ora's hibernation will be over.

...25, 26,

27, 28, 29...

Thirty.

Who's that over there at the back?

Hey you, number 30.
I'm talking to you.

You weren't here just now.

No, I was standing right here.

Come over here.

Come up here.

Come a little closer.

Come on, come on. Come closer.

Come a little closer.

My dear. I know only too well

how much you all love the glow
from my silver shawl.

Come. Come closer.

Its been such a long time, AD,

since you held me in your arms.

[chuckles]

You used to take those silver pants off

and come running to me every night.

Now that you have a wife at home,

have you forgotten your Meera?

I think it's better
if you stay away, Meera.

You really shouldn't be so jealous.
[clicks tongue]

Hey. So where was I?

You were the last one
to be converted, right?

Tell me, what's your name?

Rumi.

So, Rumi.

Why don't you tell your family members
what the punishment is for going upstairs?

You'll be thrown into the prison cell
at the back.

And?

You won't get any blood to drink.

Good. And?

Candles will be lit all around
your prison cell.

Right. And why?
To celebrate your birthday?

Because candles will work like sunlight
and sunlight makes us weak...

You obviously know everything.

And you still keep breaking the rules.

Where were you last night?

Did you go up there to hunt humans?

When I come close your body starts
to feel strange, doesn't it?

And your teeth?
Feel like doing something to me.

What do you people call them? Sharpies.

Come on, show me your sharpies.

Open your mouth.

Aah. Say "aah".

AD, did you know?

Gandhiji wore his dhoti
in a particular style of his own,

completely different from yours.

What on earth does that
have to do with Rumi?

[chuckles]

Rumi and I were watching the film
Gandhi together last night.

And I was telling her
that it was I who taught Mohandas

how to wear a dhoti for the first time.

Hey! David, don't lie to me.

No, really, it's true.

In fact, I, Robi and Mohandas...
You know, Robi Thakur.

We would often discuss and debate

whether a dhoti should be worn
as a loincloth or a lungi.

- Wow! [laughs].
-
Yeah.

[all laughing]

David, you are a bloody scoundrel.
[laughs]

Well, all right, since you say so,
I'll accept it

that last night Rumi was down here

with you the whole time.

- Right?
- Right.

All right then.

Oh, no, I'm late.

Hey, follow the rules, all of you.

And if you need anything else,

send word to me through the hospital boys.

[car horn honking]

[Anisha] What do you think?
I sit here doing nothing all day?

I see. So your job is work
and my job is a hobby.

You're wrong, Bobby.

Um. [clears throat]

I'll call you back.

Any more appointments?

A girl called a while ago.

She took the address of the clinic,
but didn't take an appointment.

Uh, great.

Then maybe you can...

Yay. Bye-bye.

I'll lock the door on my way out.

Welcome back to another episode
of The Anonymous Chef.

Today I'm back with an old
and lost recipe.

My grandma taught me how to make this.
It's called fish tramfrado.

And as you can see over here,

I've already marinated my fish
with turmeric and sea salt.

Uh, I have used bhetki fish for this.

You can use the barramundi
or any other kind of fish.

My grandma used to make hilsa tramfrado.

- Now as you can see the oil...
- [door opening]

There was no one outside,
so I just came in.

[stutters] It's... It's okay.

How may I help you?

It's my tooth.

Of course, yes.

Please sit.

Here, here.

Can you give me... the bag?

I smell fish being cooked.

Fish? Really? Um...

Must be coming
from the restaurant next door.

The exhaust fan must be on.

So tell me about your tooth.

It's my right canine.

The nerve is still intact.
You have to reattach the tooth.

Uh...

Can I play some music, please?

It helps.

Whatever.

[Roy] It's my lucky song.

So how did you break your tooth?

It was an accident.

I made a mistake.

Okay. Don't worry. I'll fix it.

Say, "aah."

Aah.

Oi, ma!

Doc?

Doc?

Doc?

Uh...

Blood, blood, blood.

When I see blood...

I hit a strange feeling.

Can you come tomorrow please? Please.

Sure.

Right. I mean,
I'll fix your tooth tomorrow.

It's no big deal.

Very soon you'll be biting.
Soon. Very soon.

I'll see you then.

[romantic music playing]

Are you a Bengali?

By birth.

But my mother packed me off to Faizabad
when I was very young.

You know, to my aunt's, so...

my Bengali isn't very good.

That's okay, sir. No judgment.

So tell me what happened.

Yeah, we left the party and came here,

and this place was empty.

And it was quite dark.

And then she started, uh...

Making out with you.

I heard at the station.

There was a pillar behind me

and in front of me...

Beautiful demon?

- Yeah.
- Enough.

Then suddenly she went for my neck
with a slide attack.

[chuckling] What's a slide attack?

And then?

And I think she stepped back a little,

she opened her mouth...

And she pounced on my neck at 5G speed
and bit it. f*ck!

One minute.

Just take a shot of this
and you'll feel better, hmm?

[chokes]

[coughing]

Ever since yesterday's attack,
I can't keep anything down.

[retches]

[coughing]

Was it this pillar?

Yeah. [coughing]

Do you wanna puke?

Then run to the toilet. Don't sit here.

[Biren] Their teeth are about the size
of my little finger.

But they are so sharp

that in an instant
they can change everything.

[closing theme music playing]
