Good morning, viewers.

We're now live at the
New York City Marathon

where over two and a half million
people gathered to watch the race.

My goal for this marathon
is simply to finish.

If I can do it, you can do it.

It was 2010.

I had lost touch with Jared.

He was tired of me not
meeting him in person...

But I never let my guard
down because I was sure...

that Jared Fogle was
an active pedophile.

So the public and my
children were at risk.

I wanted to warn people so
people could protect their children

You know, I speak
to children all over the country,

and actually, all
over the world now.

There were times that I just
wanted to shout out over the airways.

Sorry.

Sorry. I didn't expect that.

I was prevented from
talking by the FBI.

And I couldn't take it anymore.

At this point, I went
to the local authorities,

the Sarasota Police Department.

I turned in the FBI...

for not doing their due
diligence to close this case

with the evidence that I had
provided. I felt there was enough.

It's kind of a bit of
a crazy move, though, isn't it?

You taking on the FBI?

Doing the right thing
is important to me.

And that's what I
thought I was doing.

My name is Chris Catanzaro.

I used to be a detective with the
Sarasota City Police Department.

On May 13th, 2010,

Miss. Rochelle Herman
came in to the station.

I spoke with her
about Jared Fogle.

Her chief concern at that time was that he
was gonna hurt children, including her own.

And she felt like we needed
to get this guy off the street.

She had already contacted the FBI,
felt that it wasn't moving fast enough.

And I think she wanted an audience
to believe her and do something.

My firsts concern was, is this a
person that's enamored with a celebrity.

And then she showed
us her evidence.

She had phone recordings, all kinds
of information in reference to Mr. Fogle.

Don't
know? No.

When I listened
to Rochelle's tapes, I was shocked.

I genuinely was shocked, because
he comes across as a clean-cut guy.

But, predators come
in many shapes, forms,

and oftentimes, it can be people
that we have a lot of respect for.

I was very disturbed.
I was concerned...

that there could be a possibility
that this man was going to do things.

But because Mr. Fogle
lived out of state,

there'd been, as I knew, no
crime committed in Sarasota.

So we really couldn't
do any kind of arrest.

But we did take her seriously...

And I spoke with
Agent Billings at the FBI,

and she did verify that there was an
active investigation concerning Mr. Fogle.

I was there for several hours.

I told the detectives,

"I'm going to play my
tapes on my radio show."

I was going to
reveal who Jared was,

if they didn't do anything.

I told her, "Don't do that.
That would not be a good idea."

Broadcasting something like that
can be very harmful to an investigation.

Number one, it can
scare the suspect off.

And number two, it could
cause problems for her.

Somebody could come after
her and maybe physically hurt her.

I was frustrated and
incredibly disappointed.

But I agreed not to
share the tapes publicly.

I was allowed to
leave the police station.

And my head is just spinning.

I felt as though...

I am being watched.

My wanting to turn
evidence on the FBI,

was I now someone
to be questioned?

Am I a loose cannon?

Was... I someone
not to be trusted?

Was that a level of paranoia,
or was there truth to that?

I don't know.

One evening I was on the air.

It was about quarter to eleven
or so, my show was about to end.

And...

There's two guys
bangin' on the door.

They had black suits
with black sunglasses on.

It was right out of the movies.

It was the 'men in black'.

The FBI, they show
me their badges.

And I said, "Can
I help you guys?"

They said, "Rochelle
Herman, please."

And they're like,
"Who the hell are you?"

I said, "I'm the
station manager."

And I'm on the air for
another 15 minutes.

"Thank you, we'll be back." And
they turned and walked in unison.

It was bizarre. I'd never
seen anything like that.

So we wrapped up and
zoomed across the street,

and we watched from a bar.

They were up there
for almost two hours.

They took computers,
they took boxes,

they took stacks of
printed out emails and texts.

And they took a lot of stuff.

The FBI, they raided
the radio station.

They raided my home to collect
anything that I may not have turned over.

They knew that I could tell
the public at any moment

about Jared.

The FBI told me to stay quiet

or I would be charged with
impeding an on-going investigation.

So I did.

I had to step back. I
had to become a ghost.

The toll that working
undercover for the FBI...

had on my health
was astronomical.

The PTSD that I have
experienced because of this,

um, has been debilitating.

I truly believe that...

when someone undergoes such a
stressful situation for so many years,

it makes you susceptible
to other things.

In the fall of 2012,

I was diagnosed with
reflex sympathetic dystrophy,

known as suicide disease,

because it is the most painful
chronic disease known to man.

I was on incredible
amounts of painkillers...

and medications.

My entire life changed.

It cost me my career.

I felt bad for Rochelle because
she's a beautiful person.

And she was in pretty bad shape.

Seeing
what she became, it was hard.

The pain and all the stress,

and everything that's happened,

she's completely
different from who she was.

It was a struggle every day.

And I see Jared...
living a wonderful life.

- And he just got married. Congratulations.
- Thank you very much.

Yeah, it's been great so far. My first
trip back on the road after being married.

So, that's awesome.

Jared was
married to Katie McLaughlin.

She seemed very
nice, very sweet.

From the outside, to me,
their relationship was simple.

Katie was very much the
housewife, taking care of the kids.

Jared was out making the money.

This holiday season,
Subway is celebrating you!

Customer appreciation is back!

But 2013, Jared had made
about 300 commercials,

and was worth
15 million dollars.

Jared, Jared, I am
your biggest fan.

- You know, you're more handsome in person.
- Thank you.

Ever since
the Prince of Jared commercial,

I have followed everything
that he has done ever since.

How are you, buddy?

I was very happy for him.

He seemed very humble,

he didn't seem like he thought
he was better than anybody else.

He treated everybody
with respect.

How are you?

He was just, uh,
just a nice guy.

- Over 200 pounds...
- for 15 years...

- Bravo!
- Take a bow, Jared.

My name's Chuck Cohen.

I was a Captain at the
Indiana State Police.

In mid to late 2014, I
received a phone call from

an Indiana State
Trooper that I knew.

He said that he had a friend
who had been in communication

with a man sending images
that depicted bestiality.

I made the decision to ask a
investigator to get more information.

Investigators uncovered electronic
communication about sexual contact

with an animal.

At the time in Indiana,

the possession of images and videos
that depict bestiality is not a crime.

But the actual act of bestiality,
that would be unlawful.

Investigators determine that
the electronic communication...

was sent by Russell Taylor.

Russell Taylor at the time was
employed as executive director

of the Jared Foundation owned and
run by Jared Fogle, the Subway guy.

Investigators serve a search
warrant at Russell Taylor's house

to collect evidence
associated with bestiality.

He was living in a, uh, very
nice house in Central Indiana.

By all external appearances, he was a
very average upper-middle class person.

Russell Taylor didn't have
any criminal history whatsoever

that we were aware of.

Investigators did find
images of an adult female

in contact with an animal.

And they identify the person
in the images as Angie Taylor,

Russell Taylor's wife.

During the course of the
search of Russell Taylor's house,

investigators inadvertently
discovered... hidden cameras...

built into things that look like
something else, like a clock...

in places like
children's bedrooms.

When he was interviewed by investigators
one of the things Russell told them

was he placed the cameras
there, um, to prevent theft., ,

But the location of the cameras

was inconsistent with
what Russell Taylor's said.

They were pointed towards
places that were intimate to children.

Placed towards beds, trying to record
children when they were unclothed.

One of the things
investigators found

were videos that appeared to
be produced by those cameras...

of children undressed,

of children involved in
some cases, in sex acts.

Investigators see
horrible things.

In my experience, the videos
that stick with me the most...

are the ones where
I've heard the audio.

It's hearing the fear
in the child's voice.

The only thing
that surpasses that

is the horrors that the
children themselves experience.

When a child is the victim of
production of child p*rn*graphy,

that will follow the
child for their entire life.

After Russell was arrested,

we had to talk to the FBI.

I was a very
traumatic... frozen state.

I couldn't even believe
what was happening to me.

They sat me down and told me...

that there were cameras
all throughout the house.

They were everywhere.
Russell, he was watching us.

In the shower, watching
us get dressed in our rooms,

watching us masturbate.

We were being watched 24/7.

You just feel so dirty when you
find something out like that. You just...

It's just really hard to accept
that that even happened.

And the FBI
showed us still images

of just our faces...

The rest of the bodies
were blocked out.

I identified myself, I
identified my sister.

And then I had to identify
some of my... closest friends.

I think I was
starting to reconcile...

what was really going on.

Everything that ever
happened with Russell...

finally made sense.

When our mom met Russell Taylor,

I was about ten, and Christian
would have been about 13.

It looked like we we
all were doing well.

We were going on vacations,
we were moving on up in the world.

But all of that was a facade,

because our lives really started
to take a turn for the worst.

Your average teenager will get
in trouble for drinking underage,

and smoking weed.

But it wasn't like that for us.

I was being introduced to all
of that by my mom and Russell.

We're throwing these parties
and it's normal.

They want us to,
they encouraged us to.

You don't know the difference
between what is right and what is wrong

because a trusted source who
is supposed to be your parent,

is telling you that it's okay.

- You know.
- The common quote in our home was,

"Age is just a number."

As long as you're mature
enough to do it, you're gonna do it.

I think that was... the
seed that was planted.

And that began the
grooming process for us.

Allowing us to
drink and smoke and party,

made us vulnerable
to talk about...

sexual things.

It didn't even have
to be about you or I.

It was about them.

My mom's attitude
to sexual behavior,

it went from zero to a hundred.

She would leave the room after
giving Russell oral and come...

tell me about it. Like,
it was just very open.

I remember I was 12 at the time,

and Russell was telling me,
"You should be having sex."

You know, "You should
be exploring your body."

And I told him, no.

And he proceeded to
kind of make fun of me

'cause I hadn't
done those things.

One day Russell texted me.

He said, "Hey, I left
something on your bed."

I went up there and...
there was a... dildo!

And the computer
pulled up with porn!

It freaked me out.

He's leaving this for me,
so what am I supposed to do!

I think Russell was doing
all these things to catch us on camera.

Literally setting up scenes...

to put into his film.

Russell Taylor is
accused of recording underaged girls

without their knowledge
to produce porn.

Taylor was in
some of the images.

When Russell
Taylor was arrested in 2015,

both Jared Fogle and Subway
Corporation, uh, released statements.

The statement that Jared
Fogle released was...

"I was shocked to learn of the
disturbing allegations against Mr. Taylor.

"Affect from immediately the Jared
Foundation severed all ties with Mr. Taylor."

The statement from Subway was...

"We don't have any
affiliation with the Foundation

"and we were disgusted
to hear about these claims.

"We're glad Jared took quick action
to severe all his ties with Mr. Taylor."

I'm sure Subway was very concerned
the day Russell Taylor was arrested.

And I'm sure somebody
somewhere at Subway just said...

"God, please, don't let Jared
Fogle be involved in this."

What an
inspiration! Subway, eat fresh.

Through the
course of the investigation,

investigators found
thousands of text messages.

And also numerous images
and videos of children...

The image was horrible.

Investigators were able
to identify 12 victims.

One of the things investigators
were able to recover

is Russell Taylor sent
a image of a naked child

to Jared Fogle.

Russell Taylor, when
interviewed told investigators

Jared Fogle had actually gone
out to dinner with that child victim.

Jared Fogle had the
option of calling the police.

He could have
told Russell Taylor,

"I don't want this
Don't send anymore."

Or he could've done what he did.

My name is Steven Debrota.

Back in 2014, I was an
assistant US attorney.

When I saw the text message that
featured a minor he knew in real life...

we began the
investigation of Jared Fogle.

If there's one piece of evidence
like that, there could be more.

Russell Taylor, when
interviewed, claimed

that some, some of his
criminal behavior was motivated

by a desire to produce child
p*rn*graphy for Jared Fogle.

We know from other
communications that at one point

a thumb drive and a laptop
computer containing child p*rn*graphy,

both commercial and homemade,

was given from Russell
Taylor to Jared Fogle.

So we develop enough information to
get a search warrant for Jared's home.

So the morning of July 7th...

investigators met at about
five o'clock in the morning.

Most of the officers were not aware
of the location they were gonna search.

Our entire goal was to do
this as discreetly as possible

with as little media
attention as possible.

Uh, that was unsuccessful.

Developing story
out of Indiana...

FBI agents raiding the home of
Subway spokesman, Jared Fogle.

I'm shocked to say the least.

When I first saw that something
was happening with Jared.

Over the 25 years of my career,

there was more media attention
at this than any other investigation.

You know, people
flocked their cameras from TV.

Our reporters, our photographers.
It was a classic media circus.

I don't think anyone understood
the full scope of what was going on.

But when the truth came out,
it shocked the nation to its core.

I received a phone call
from a friend of mine.

"You need to turn
on the news now."

Investigators
start at around 6:30 in the morning.

They went through the home. In fact,
we see a video of them coming out

with hard drives and computers.

Jared's house was being raided.

I was shocked. Oh, my
gosh. It's actually happening.

I just don't think the FBI
raids people for no reason.

Only thing I ever see around
this home are happy people

doing their yard, waving.

So I'm shocked and upset,
of course, and saddened.

The FBI will only say that

an investigation is
taking place in Zionville.

Jared, you got anything to say?

We wanna stress that
he is not being arrested.

He has not been charged, but
again, it is an on-going investigation.

Investigators
found digital devices.

Cellphones, USB
drives, several computers.

5.6 terabytes of information
had to be reviewed...

to see whether or not
there was other evidence

or other crimes were committed.

That very
day that the news broke,

I contacted our
local station, ABC7.

I felt it was important
to get my story out there

and reveal the monster
behind the doors.

I remember my
assignment manager saying,

"Max, I may have
something for you."

And she tells me about this
woman who tipped off the FBI

on Jared Fogle and something
to do with child p*rn*graphy.

And I'm like, okay, is this just some
kook woman trying to, to get attention.

So, I call Rochelle, and
she tells me her story.

I didn't know whether
to trust this woman.

So I am contacting
sources and I will say,

I felt very comfortable that
she was telling the truth.

So, we did an
interview with her.

Did he mention to you that he in fact did
have relations with, with underage children?

Yes, he did. Yes, he did.

Jared Fogle to you is what?

Is a monster.

When Rochelle's
news broke, I didn't believe it at first.

I thought it wasn't true.

Because Jared Fogle was considered one
of the most trusted people in the country.

In the public's eye I think
people were still siding with Fogle

and believing that
he'd been duped.

A lot of
cases involving famous people

don't go the right way.

In his particular case, he
had fame and he has money.

So, we had the concern that Fogle
was gonna be one more celebrity

that would get away with it.

Everyone's still
waiting for investigators

to give some comments about what they
may have found during this investigation.

After the
search of his residence,

we had to do
painstaking analysis

of what digital
evidence was there.

My conclusion was that Jared Fogle
was fully involved in criminal activity

with Russell Taylor.

My question was, was I gonna
be able to hold him accountable

for the totality of what he did.

And that wasn't clear to me until we
saw all of the text messages that we got

as a result of
searching his house.

The texts showed

Jared Fogle was very good
at maintaining his double life.

He would travel around the
United States for Subway.

We know he was in Las Vegas,

Florida, and New York City.

But when he's not in public,

when he's by himself
in the hotel room...

Jared Fogle spent 12,000
a year on sex-workers.

Then he would ask if they had access
to any underage prostituting minors.

He successfully had sex with prostituting
minors on multiple occasions...

at the Plaza Hotel,
just off Central Park

and also at the Ritz
Carlton in Manhattan.

The two prostituting minors in
New York were sixteen years of age,

and we call that, travelling over a Stateline
to engage in unlawful sex with a minor.

That's a federal crime.

So, at the end of the day we charged
him with conspiring with Russell Taylor

to distribute and receive
child p*rn*graphy.

And also, victimizing
prostituted minors in New York.

Jared Fogle was
searched in July of 2015,

and he was pleading
guilty by August.

The face of Subway

has gone from being
famous to being infamous

for something
much more sinister.

Jared Fogle pleading guilty
to child p*rn*graphy charges,

and other shocking sex crimes.

He paid to have sex with
victims that he knew were kids.

Hey, Jared...

When Jared Fogle first pleaded
guilty, it sent shock waves.

No one could believe it.

What we were able to
determine was there were 14 victims

and all of them were subjected
to very serious federal crimes.

The guy on the radio said,
"Big trouble for Jared from Subway."

And I listened to him, and I'm like, "Oh,
my God. They got him. They got him."

Let's call this what it is.

This is about using
wealth, status and secrecy

to illegally exploit children.

We were just shocked.

We just couldn't comprehend
that, that this story was really true.

He had a family,
he had children.

And then to just throw
it away like that, is just...

It makes me angry
and it makes me sad.

I felt sick to my stomach.

I felt weird about
knowing the guy.

It was just horrible.

And I felt for all of the victims
and the people involved.

Jared, is there
anything you want to say?

His wife immediately
filed for divorce.

She also asked for
custody of their two children.

And she denounced him in public.

Breaking news story regarding
former Subway spokesman, Jared Fogle.

And just moments
ago, Katie McLaughlin

spoke publicly for
the first time ever.

Find out that your husband

and the father of your
children is a child predator

is devastating.

were among
her claims that Subway was alerted

at least three times to Jared's
possible sexual attraction to children

and did nothing about it.

Finding out that Subway did
not act upon at least one complaint

is beyond comprehension.

Did Subway cover
it up? I don't know.

I think the more logical
reasoning here is that

Subway just did not find
the allegations truthful.

Subway says it
found just one serious complaint

about its former
spokesperson, Jared Fogle.

But it wasn't connected
to any sexual misconduct.

Subway has now
closed it's investigation.

You can't help but wonder,

did Jared Fogle get away
with his crimes for so long

because of his fame?

We may not ever
know the full story.

Today, former
Subway spokesperson, Jared Fogle,

will be sentenced on federal charges
of possession of child p*rn*graphy

and having sex with a minor.

Charges that carry a penalty between
five and fifty years in federal prison.

A literal media
frenzy is on hand...

awaiting former Subway
spokesman, Jared Fogle.

What do you wanna
say to the families of these victims?

The betrayal of the public's
trust triggered interest in the case.

As you can see here behind me,

dozens of photographers,
dozens of reporters out here

speaking about history
as it's being made.

For me, my goal was
to get a sentence that I thought

was a fair reflection of
what we knew he had done.

The minimum sentence
he could get was five years.

The maximum sentence he
could receive was fifty years.

In the sentencing hearing,

the defendant gets an opportunity
to directly address the court.

Fogle went on
to tell Judge Prat,

"I went from being raised with
good, solid morals and values

"to living the life of deception, lies
and complete self-centeredness.

"I had become dependent on
alcohol, p*rn*graphy and prostit*tes.

"The victims that I have harmed
as a result of my decisions

"will carry a huge burden
for the rest of their lives.

"Not a day will go by that
I don't think about them.

"I take full and absolute
responsibility for what I have done."

Jared's defense
attorneys had him evaluated.

One of the experts
provided a testimony,

uh, that Jared was
addicted to sexual activity.

His attorneys said early on that he had
swapped his food addiction for sex addiction.

And that he was a
good candidate for treatment.

That he would be able
to beat this and get better.

That seems ludicrous
on its face today.

It seemed ludicrous
at that time.

I think you could have
any number of addictions,

you're not suddenly going to find
someone who's underage sexually attractive.

The defense had one of their
witnesses saying it was mild pedophilia.

That his problem
primarily was teenage girls.

But he was, according
to our evidence,

sexually attracted to children as
young as age six, boys and girls.

Several women around the United
States came forward and said...

Jared, to bring up the issue of
his sexual attraction to minors.

One of them, Rochelle
Herman, had a set of recordings

with Jared Fogle
over a period of time.

As far as I'm aware,
there is no evidence to support

that Jared Fogle ever did any of the
things he discussed with Rochelle Herman.

But the, uh,
existence of the tapes

showed he had a
sexual interest in minors

and a long-standing and
persistent pattern of behavior.

It's not a 'one moment
of bad judgement',

it's not a small addiction,
it's a major problem.

Rochelle's tapes clearly had
a huge impact on the judge.

Because when it
came to sentencing,

she went beyond the
prosecutor's recommendations.

And I can tell you,
that is very rare.

The judge in this case, federal
judge Tanya Walton Pratt,

sentencing Jared Fogle to
fifteen and a half years in prison.

He is going to be
registered as a sex offender,

and uh, basically, being
watched the entirety of his life.

Hey, Jared!

I know that there
are guidelines.

And I know that the judge took
everything into consideration...

But there's fourteen victims!

How is fifteen years enough?

Now, looking back on it,

it makes me angry.

Jared was just
completely complicit

in the videos that
were being taken of us

in our most vulnerable moments.

He was the puppet master

and Russell was
kind of just his puppet.

I think Jared Fogle was
wired to be sexually attracted to children.

And his situation was made
worse when he met Russell Taylor.

They become this toxic
combination together.

Russell
Taylor is paying the price

for victimizing children he
secretly videotaped in the nude.

The federal crime will cost him
more than two decades in prison.

It was his cooperation that allowed
them to arrest and charge Jared Fogle.

So many terrible
memories in that house.

It looks like a family home.

- But, really, it was toxic. Evil.
- Yeah.

It's kind of hard
to believe we lived in there

and all those things
happened inside.

I don't feel trapped
in there anymore.

But this house robbed
me of my childhood.

Russell Taylor,
to me, is now a monster.

But I think my mom, Angela,
was just as dangerous.

As Russell and
Jared, if not more.

We got a call
from the FBI IN 2020.

The case was being reopened.

The FBI had this new evidence.

They said we're going to
show you things about your mom

that you've never seen before.

And they showed us text messages
and text messages and text messages

of our mom talking about
wanting to have sex with us.

Wanting to let Russell
have sex with us.

She was watching us
live on these cameras.

I'm sorry.

You just feel so unloved.

Just how...

someone who... is supposed
to love you and protect you...

Supposed to be your mom...

is...

dangerous.

We were asked to
testify against her.

And I wanted to tell the
world what she had done

because she stole so much
of my childhood away from me.

I felt, you exposed me,
I'm going to expose you.

Russell Taylor's former
wife was charged with sex crimes.

And in 2021, she was
convicted after jury trial.

Judge Pratt's sentence for
Taylor's former wife, Angela Baldwin

was 33 years.

She molested her own
relatives and was gleeful about it.

This was someone
who chose to do this,

this was someone
who wanted to do this.

And it's this horrific
exploitation of children

who should be able to trust you.

I've asked myself many times...

why would our mom
do this to her children?

I would label her as... evil.

She just was not a good mom.

She just was not a good mother.

I would definitely
say, having a child...

has changed my life.

I've never loved
somebody so much.

I just want to give my
daughter... what I didn't have.

I feel like our entire
lives we've really just been surviving.

I didn't see the light
at the end of the tunnel.

And now I can
finally see that light.

I can finally get a
little bit of the taste

of freedom and happiness.

And it tastes so good.

It really does.

Although we've
never met Rochelle,

I'm definitely thankful for
the part that she's played

because we didn't have the
power to speak up for ourselves.

I would never be
able to live my life knowing

that I stood down.

I needed to help
save these children.

And I would do
it all over again.

But I do regret how...

it tore my relationship
with my children apart.

My sister, Angela,

struggles a lot with the
same things that I do.

Like anxiety and...

I think she also, like
has heavy depression.

But she wants to get
her life on track again.

The whole thing
with Jared Fogle,

it's definitely strained, like,
my relationship with my sister...

and my mother.

Around four or five years
ago, I moved to Taiwan.

And I've never gone
back to America.

There's a lot of reasons why.

There's been a
lot that's happened.

I'm, I'm not sure, like, what
I should say, to be honest.

But, I'm very
proud of my mother.

She did do something heroic.

And she... It was selfless,
'cause she lost a lot in the process.

I'm not the
same person I used to be.

But, I will not allow this experience
with Jared to define my life.

If I ever have the opportunity
to talk to those fourteen victims,

I would share it with them.

Do not give Jared the power

to define what he did to you

as who you are, because
that's not who you are.

And love yourself
because you survived.

And I personally...
