02x02 - Prepared to Part Ways

PREPARED TO PAST WAYS

Two Holy Knights,
three giants, and seven fairies.

And one prisoner.

The number of casualties is
impressively small considering we had

two of the Ten Commandments
and King Arthur against us.

Galland, Melascula...

They were implanted with false memories
by Chaos, manipulated,

and ended up suffering yet another defeat.

You're praying for the souls
of men like that?

You always were a weird one, Thetis.

I'm not praying for them.
I just sympathize.

And anyway,
after letting the assassin escape,

you let the prisoner get k*lled too.

Quite the blunder, Lancelot.

Do you know how much of a disadvantage
you put us in?

You have no idea how I feel,
you annoying old woman.

You don't have any idea how I feel either,
do you?

Reading someone's mind and understanding
their feelings are two separate things.

Take in the night air and cool your head,

kiddo.

Lancelot, I'm in love with you.

I was afraid
you'd figure out how I felt someday

so I could no longer stay by your side.

I'm your girlfriend!

She was such a weird kid.

I've heard a lot from you directly,
so I know a thing or two.

Things your father used to say,

what you did with your master at the lake,
and more.

Let's see each other again, Lancelot.

The person I love so much.

He always treats me like a child.

I'll leave it to you, Lancelot.

Damn it.

You're such a wicked child, Gawain.

Leaving home without permission.

Don't you know how much
my brother worries about you?

Grandfather, Grandmother,

hold me tight.

Lord Meliodas summoned us?

Did we do something wrong?

Not that I can think of, but...

I can't believe it.
An audience with Lord Meliodas.

I'm still sleepy.

Sir Percival, Knight of Prophecy,
ahead of you is the audience chamber.

So, when you say "king",
you mean Meliodas, right?

- Idiot, stop it!
- It's "Lord Meliodas."

Please be very careful not to be rude.

Okay! Opening the door!

Welcome. What adorable knights you are.

This esteemed lady is Queen Elizabeth.

{\an8}What a beautiful lady.

I've seen this face somewhere before...

{\an8}I see that Prince Tristan takes
after his mother.

She's dazzling!

I heard that you fought for
the people and the kingdom yesterday.

So I wanted to thank you myself.

I am most grateful.

Oh, no. I didn't really do anything.

So, Lord Meliodas isn't coming?

If you're talking about me, I'm over here.

Yo!

Who's this kid?

{\an8}That's Meliodas.

{\an8}He really was the king!

That can't be right! That's the king?
That tiny pip-squeak?

Could he maybe be Prince Tristan's
younger brother?

That makes more sense.

I'm sorry to have shocked you.

But it's the truth.

This is my husband, the king Meliodas.

In other words, Tristan is our son.

My Lord Meliodas.

Tiny pip-squeak!

{\an8}Anne! Are you okay?

{\an8}I'm not okay, but it's okay.

{\an8}It's just my dream

has been shattered into tiny pieces.

Well, that's enough for the self-intros.
Let's get to the point.

Lancelot told me how hard
you fought along the way.

Donny, Nasiens, Anghalhad.

You've done very well until today.

I appreciate how you've supported Percival
all the way to Liones.

Yeah, you were all here for me, so...

{\an8}What's wrong?

I know this must be painful for you

when you've overcome
so many obstacles together.

And so it pains me to ask this of you.

Are you ready to say good-bye?

{\an8}What? Ready to say good-bye?
What do you mean?

Yes, that's right.

Well, I knew it somehow in my heart, but...

Yes.

Anne? Donny? Nasiens?

Percival, you're one of the prophesied
Four Knights of the Apocalypse.

But we aren't.

More to the point,
we're not even Holy Knights.

We'd only hold you back.

What are you saying?

You understand what we mean, right?

If that's how it is,

then in the battle yesterday I held
you back and was no help at all either!

I only came this far

because you've been there
to help me all the way!

{\an8}We're friends, aren't we?
We're still going to be a team, right?

We'll be together forever, yeah?

Stop acting like a baby!

From now on, you're the one
who's got to save this world!

Are you kidding me?

You and me, we're friends? A team?

Of course we are!

That goes without saying!

Percival.

I really wanted to travel with you
for longer.

Someday, I'm going to be a Holy Knight

then I'll be as strong as you are.

{\an8}So you have to wait for me
till then, okay?

{\an8}Anne! Nasiens! Donny!

Hey, hey, hey!

I think there's been a misunderstanding.

What kind of misunderstanding?

Elizabeth?

Here you are.

Anghalhad, Nasiens, Donny.

Come forth and kneel.

Stay still.

In the name of the King of Liones,

I hereby anoint thee, Anghalhad,
Holy Knight of the realm.

Donny, I hereby anoint thee
Holy Knight of the realm.

Nasiens, I hereby anoint thee
Holy Knight of the realm.

{\an8}And finally, you. Percival.

Yeah, I mean, yes!

In the name of the King,
I hereby anoint thee, Percival,

Holy Knight and
one of the Four Knights of the Apocalypse.

So that's how it's going to be!

You three keep on
supporting Percival, okay?

But just now you asked
if we were ready to say good-bye?

I meant saying good-bye to
the lives you've led until now.

Until we can bring an end to
the battle with Camelot that is.

I'm really sorry to burden kids like you
with the fate of the world.

But I also want you
to help protect Britannia.

Yes, sir!

Okay, but can I just say something?

That was so confusing!

Maybe I didn't explain it very well.

Okay, once again.

Percival Platoon ready for action.

- Are you sure about me being the leader?
- Of course! Here we go!

Percival Platoon, h*!

Where are we going now?

To the w*r Room.
I told you yesterday, right?

That I'd explain everything
once everyone was here.

Thanks for your patience.
They've all been anointed.

What an honor.

We have Liones's weakest order
of Holy Knights here.

{\an8}Hey, why did you all come
in your pajamas? Lame.

- Hey, Anne!
- Hey, everyone. Sleep okay last night?

Hurry up and sit next to me.

{\an8}Have you guys already had breakfast?

That's the first thing you say?

Okay. I guess everyone's here.

Aren't we still waiting on Gawain?

If you're talking about me,
I'm here already!

I was the first one here!

Is she really a Knight of Prophecy?

{\an8}Come on, Isolde. Did you forget about me?

{\an8}If you want, we can carry on our romantic
conversation from yesterday.

Time for children to go home?

How rude.

{\an8}- It's so hot! It's burning!
- Are you okay? I'll put it out right away!

- It's out?
- What?

Damn brats, squealing away
so early in the morning.

This is Thetis,
Elizabeth's witch and the best in Liones.

Well, then my king. Get on with it.

Roger that.

Wow, what a way to talk to a king.

First of all,
I appreciate your joining us here!

The Knights of Prophecy who are fated
to destroy the world!

Gawain, Knight of Famine.

Lancelot, Knight of w*r.

Tristan, Knight of Pestilence.

{\an8}Percival, Knight of Death.

{\an8}Objection!

There's no way we'll destroy the world!

Oh, yes. You will.

{\an8}You'll destroy Camelot,
the world created by Arthur.

I see!

{\an8}I thought so all along!

Sneaky!

In other words, they're the knights
who are going to save Britannia.

So, why did you call me
the "Knight of Death"?

That's just what you are to Camelot.

You guys are the ones to bring hope
to Britannia, and that doesn't change.

{\an8}You could have told me that
from the beginning too, Lancelot.

- Didn't I mention it?
- No, you did not!

But I still don't get it.

Wasn't the Kingdom of Camelot
pretty much destroyed 16 years ago?

Certainly, the Camelot that once existed
no longer exists in this world.

However, Arthur used the power of Chaos

to create a new Camelot
in another dimension.

Just like the realms
of fairies and demons.

But it seems there was
a price to be paid for

the creation and maintenance of Camelot.

Creation? A price to be paid?

Well, it's best you see for yourselves.

We're so high up!

Oh, no. We'll fall!

Don't look down. Look ahead.

So this is what my uncle...

What in the world is this?

Huge chunks are gone
from the mountains and the land.

This is the reality Camelot brought about.

It's the reason
we're fighting Arthur Pendragon.

That mountain had
high-quality mineral veins within,

and there were big forests and lakes,

as well as small villages here and there.

Among the villages that vanished was
the hometown of our Holy Knight Pelio.

How could this happen?

It seems that every time Arthur created
something in Camelot,

something from this world was lost.

So you didn't see it for yourself?

No. But I heard it from a reliable source.

So there's no doubt about it.

Pa-- Father, I've always wondered.

That reliable source, who was it?

Well, about that...

- Percival.
- Yes?

It was your grandfather.

Varghese. He was once a loyal knight
in the service of Arthur.

Percival's grandfather passed
information to Liones?

You can't be serious.

You really believed
what an enemy knight told you?

Yes. I believe him. Even now.

When was this?

Not long after the Holy w*r ended.

When your grandfather was being
pursued by former friends as a traitor,

he came to me for help.

He was holding you as a newborn baby.

Varghese hoped that he could
return King Arthur,

who was changing by the hour after
getting his hands on the power of Chaos,

back to normal and stop his friends
from blindly following him.

I believed what he said.

I gave him an Ouroboros medallion
as proof of eternal friendship.

As proof of trust and cooperation,

I placed the mark of the double star
on his helmet.

So the medallion on my grandfather's cape
and the mark on his helmet,

you were the one who gave them to him.

He was all alone with nowhere to go.

Percival,
I told him that I would take you in.

But Varghese said very clearly...

I will protect Percival with my life.

I will raise him to be
a kind and cheerful boy.

He kept his promise very well.

I'm sure of that when I look at you.

Meliodas! Let's march on Cammymott
right away!

We have to stop King Arthur,
no matter what!

"When moon, distant thunder,
and rain bless the Kingdom,

the four Knights of Prophecy
will finally assemble.

But at the same time,
hope will be taken away

by a Chaos Assassin
and the Blade of Treason."

That's the omen
the former king saw yesterday.

As predicted, you,
the Knights of Prophecy,

assembled and hope was lost.

Lost?

Our path to Camelot has been closed.

Wait. Does that mean
we can't go to Camelot anymore?

You knew it was going to be taken away.
So why couldn't you prevent it?

An omen is only a vague indication
of the future.

We anticipated the aim of the attack,

in other words,
the nature of the hope that would be lost,

and took measures
to prevent every possible damage.

The intruder's aim turned out
to be to free their comrade

who had been taken prisoner,
but we couldn't stop them.

Why?

Because the intruder was

a former Holy Knight of Liones, Jericho.

A Holy Knight of Liones?

She was both the "Chaos Assassin"
and the "Blade of Treason."

Once she realized that she couldn't break

the magical restraints
I'd placed on the prisoner,

she k*lled him and fled.

What does the death of the prisoner
have to do with the loss of hope?

It's the same thing.

Arthur personally brands
each of the Knights of Chaos.

The brand functions on

the life force of the person
it's inscribed onto and an incantation.

It's a device for opening the door
between here and there.

So in other words,
the moment you lost the prisoner,

you lost the means of getting to Camelot.

Unfortunately, yes.

"Unfortunately?"

Couldn't you have gone there
while you still had the prisoner?

Rather than not going,

it's more like
I couldn't get into Camelot.

Because I'm a demon.

The king is a demon?

So that's why
you could speak the language back then.

I've had dishes
from Hell as well, you know.

But why can't demons get into Camelot?

Let me explain.

To be precise, besides humanity there are
demons, goddesses, fairies, and giants.

The door to Camelot
has a powerful magical barrier...

CAMELOT, THE ETERNAL KINGDOM
[HUMANS]

...that keeps the other four races
from entering.

That's why we're going to leave it all
to you, the Knights of Prophecy.

Tristan and Lancelot.

You're both biracial, so it seems like
the barrier won't work on you.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious.

But until 16 years ago, there was
no precedent for biracial people.

What's the point in bringing that up now
when we've lost access to the door?

All we can do now is wait for
a Knight of Chaos to appear somewhere,

sometime so we can capture them again.

Certainly, that's a reasonable opinion.

The four of them are all here,
but there's nothing we can do.

You can't expect much from the
Knights of Prophecy after all, can you?

Lord Tristan aside, that is.

This sucks.

This is amazing.

Percival.

There's no need for you to feel down.

Then guess what? How about all of us go
on a really exciting adventure together?

One of my goals is to go to Cammymott and
kick the hell out of Dad and King Arthur.

But my other goal is to travel around
mysterious places in Britannia.

And while we're doing that, we might find
a way of getting to Cammymott.

The child that Varghese risked his life
to protect, Percival...

It's just as Gowther said.

He might actually bring hope to the world.
