Cattle rancher King usually captured criminals and spies and found lost hikers, though he did so with the use of his airplane, the Songbird.

02x01 - The Neckerchief

Post by bunniefuu »

Out of the clear blue of the western sky

comes... The

King! Brought to you by Nabisco,

National Biscuit Company. And as we say

here in the West, Reach, partner.

Reach for Nabisco.

Reach for Nabisco.

The bright red seal on the

packaging means there's mighty good

cookies inside, my friend.

Yep, that red Nabisco seal is on all

your favorite cookies. Creamy chocolatey

Oreo cream sandwich, rich different Swiss

cream sandwich, yummy Fig Newtons,

crispy sweet Nabisco sugar wafers,

and many, many others. So just remember,

when it comes to cookies,

And now, Sky King.

Ready to roll.

Repeat. We're ready to roll. Is

the highway clear?

All clear. Repeat. All clear.

Let it roll. Roger. We're rolling.

I say it was rustlers, Mr. Rod.

Rustlers. Next pop will be telling us we

have to prepare for an Indian attack.

You've been seeing too many western

movies. When cattle disappear, there's

gotta be a reason. And I've explained

what that reason is. There's a lot of

country to get lost in when they get out

on that open range. Ranches have good

years, and they have bad ones, Mr.

Brooks. We're having a bad one.

That must be Mr. King. Sky King?

I called him this morning. He said he'd

stop by on his way to Phoenix. Do you

know him?Never met him. But from what Dad

used to write, they were good friends.

They sure were. He used to drop in quite

often. If anyone can find out what's

happened to your cattle, Mr. Rod, it'll

be Sky. I hope so.

You're coming in too sharp. Flatten it

out a little.

How was that, Uncle Sky?Pretty good

landing, huhAny landing you can walk away

from is a good landing, Penny. Is that

all you've got to say for it?My

compliments, Mrs. King. Your descent was

splendidly ex*cuted. You are an

accomplished pilot. Thank you, Mr. King.

So nice of you to say so.

Haven't you forgotten something?What?An

accomplished pilot always kills his

engines before he leaves his plane.

As I told you on the phone, Mr. King, I'm

really quite new to the West. First with

my going to school in the East and then

my turn in the Air Force. Yes, I know,

Rod. Your dad was mighty proud of you.

How many head of beef have you lost?Well,

with what were gone this morning, about

show profit to losses like that. Sky,

if we took this onward, maybe we could

spot some of the strays from the air.

I've already tried that. Covered the

range for 50 miles in every direction.

Oh. How far is this broken

fence?About a mile cross-country.

Let's get some horses and take a ride

over there with Pop. I'd like to have a

look at it. Sure.

Say, Pop, come here a minute, will you?

What's so interesting?the catalogue

pushed this fence over, there'd be hair

and bits of hide caught on the barbed

wire, wouldn't there? There should be. But

there ain't. Take a look at this post.

What do you make

of that?

It ain't hair. Hemp from a rope.

Find something, Sky?You're darn right

he's found something. I believe this

fence post was pulled over from the

outside and not pushed over from the

inside. That doesn't make sense. How

could the cattle on the inside pull down

the fence from the outside when they're

inside to begin with? And to get outside,

they would first have to push down the

fence from the inside to get outside. But

being inside... Easy, Penny, easy.

Which side of the fence are you on?Well,

you know what I mean. Yes, and I think

you're right about one thing. It doesn't

make sense unless the fence was pulled

down to let the cattle out. You're saying

it was rustless, Kai?I don't

know yet, Pop.

Rod?Looks like Pop

was right. I believe rustlers have been

taking your cattle. No, we're getting

someplace. Rustlers?But this is the

changed, but the idea is still the same.

Your steers were hauled off in trucks.

I don't see any tire marks. Oh, they were

pretty smart. They rubbed out most of the

tire marks in the dirt, but they forgot

this. Sort of

a diamond design. Well, looks like our

first move is to fly into town and tell

the local sheriff what we know. Then

check the garages and service stations.

Maybe somebody will remember a truck with

tread design on the tires like that.

We'll help you. No, I'll handle this

alone. Rod, take your plane and fly down

to the border and check with the customs

officials, see if any loads of cattle

have gone through. They could be running

these cattle into Mexico, you know

Well, we might as well get started too.

Gee, this is a nice little plane.

What's your flying speed?About 170.

No, I don't remember seeing any trucks

with diamond tread tires. I'll sure keep

my eyes open. Hey. See, have you tried

Steve's garage down the street?No, I

haven't. He gets a lot of truck trade.

Maybe he can help. Thanks, I'll look in

on him now.

You do much flying, Rob?Not as much as

I'd like to. Seems there's always

something around the ranch to keep me

grounded. Matt flies the plane more than

I do. Matt?Yeah, flying

fence lines and going to cattle auctions,

chasing town after things. I didn't even

know he flew. Sure. He used to be a

commercial pilot.

See that place down there? My dad had a

deal on to buy it before he died.

Buildings don't look very good. Well, the

owner's back east and hasn't been lived

in for years. But it has some darn good

range land on it. Free springs on the

property. That's why dad wanted it.

Somebody must be living there now. That

landing strip over behind that low hill

has been used quite a bit lately. Yes, it

has.

Rod, isn't that a cattle truck in front

of that barn?Sure is.

You don't suppose?It's possible.

I can make a dead stick flag right on

that strip. Slip up from behind a hill

and then have a look and nobody will ever

know it. Okay.

They have a diamond design. Yeah.

We can forget about checking at the

border. Let's get back and tell Skye. And

just what's so interesting about those

truck treads?Why, um, we were

just discussing different types of tread

and I was explaining about them. If we're

trespassing, we're sorry. So you can

just put that g*n away and we'll be

going. Hold it. The only place you're

going is into that barn. We won't do it.

Better get in there or you can stillwalk.

Come on.

Hi, Dan. Did you find out anything

about them rustlers in town? Not a thing.

Rod and Penny come back here? No. Well, we

might as well make ourselves comfortable

while we're waiting for them.

Been waiting for you. Got a couple of

visitors inside. Visitors?Yeah, young

fella and a girl. Caught them nosing

around the truck. Where are

they?In the tack room.

Do you know him?I ought to. That's his

beef we're cutting up for market in

there. Oh, Brooks?Yeah. She's the niece

of Sky King. You stop by to help him find

out where his cattle are. How'd they get

here?In a plane. Landed on the runway

beyond the hill. That was real

thoughtful of them. By the time that

plane is found, it's going to look like

it crashed and burned with them in it.

Yes?That's

right. You sure?

All right, thank you. What do they say?

Rod's plane never got to the border

field. Well, they must have been forced

down somewhere. Rod's a good pilot, and

there's plenty of fat country to set her

down on. Not a lot of rough country, too.

It'll be dark pretty quick, but I'm going

up in the Songbird and have a lookaround.

Coming, Pop?

Are your hands free yet?Not enough to do

any good. If you only had

something.

Rod, look.

It's worth a try.

Just a minute now.

Can you stand?A

window, you first.

Hurry up.

Run, Penny, run!

Matt! Get

the girl. Ow!

Joe! Come on, the girl got away. She's

probably headed for the plane. Come on.

Sprint out and search the brush. I'll

cover the plane.

You must have devil back towards thebarn.

Matt. Hey, Matt.

We couldn't find her anywhere. Well, it

doesn't make much difference. She didn't

see me. So he's the only one we have to

worry about. Now instead of a burned

plane, it'll be a burned barn. I'm

sure if they were forced down, they'd

stay close to the plane. How's the gas

hole now? We're gonna have to turn back

pretty quick.

You can't

hear me.

See anything, pop?

Not a thing.

I guess we'll have to turn back.

Sky, please see them, please.

Something must be wrong with the beacon

on Devil's Ridge. It's beacon on and off.

Free dot, Free Dash is someone sending an

SOS. Do you think you could be them?

one way to find out.

Penny?Where's Rod?the

rustlers have gotten we discovered their

truck and they discovered us where are

they at the ranch Rod's father was gonna

buy the old Thompson place it's just a

few miles from here how many men were

there three and they talked of a man

coming they called the boss but there

might be more than that now you stay here

at the songbird radio the sheriff's

office what do you think should we take a

crack at him I wouldn't miss this show

God if it was a cactus feel all the way

and I was barefooted let's go

Rod's cattle, butcher, ready for

marketing.

Sky, it's mad. Why the dirty Kyle? Not

yet. After we find out where everybody

is. How much more? This is the last of it.

Well, after you put it away, pull the

tuck clear of the barn. Right here.

Here comes somebody.

Hey, Joe! Give me

a hand with this straw. I wonder where

it'll do the most good. Hey, Al!

Take him out and I can tie

him up. Yeah. Al!

Al, where are you?

Kirk k*ll the light in there yeah

where are you right here

what's the matter I don't know Al went

out to start the truck now I can't get

him to answer somebody ought to go out

and see what's the matter go ahead

nobody's stopping you now we've got him

all together what good does it do us I

can't see my head in front of my face

Turn the truck around. Switch on the

lights and we'll find out where they are.

Okay.

Al, is that you?Are

you ready?

Who's there?Just being a six-sh**ter.

It's Pop. The next time I turn these

lights on, I want to see your hands high

up in the air. All of 'em. When he hits

those lights again, we're ready to sh**t

'em out. We'll make a break for it. All

right, boys, drop those g*ns.

By golly, that's just the way I wanted to

see you. You know, Sky, I never tried

shining skunks before, but it sure works.

They've got Rod hidden around here

someplace, Pop. Go have a look, will you?

Well, Rod,

looks like your ranch ought to start

making a profit now. You bet your life it

will. If you're ever down our way, I hope

you'll stop by and say hello. You bet

you're alive, I will. And if you ever

have any rustlers around there, be sure

to let me know. You bet you're...

Yes, sir. Hello, Rod. It's on, Sky.

Hello, it's on, Sky.

Tune in again next week. Remember,

Reach for Nabisco.

Reach for

Nabisco. A bright red

seal on the packaging. Means

there's mighty good cookies inside my

friend.
