life the person who's most influenced me

is my cousin Ashley because we spent a

lot of time together and do fun things

together outside my mom because she had

a really hard life and she got through

it and she loves my brother and she

I like try and be like her Blair Morgan

to try to be a famous snowmobil it's my

friend Laura because she helps me when I

have a problem or when I'm s the person

who influences me the most is my mom

because she taught me to how to care and

cherish animals

this is tunes and spoons it's a virtual

glass xylophone and it's a great way to

experiment with sounds on your computer

you can find it at the zoom website

tunes and spoons has inspired a lot of

kids to experiment like book of Alberta

and Canada she tried it with different

kinds of glasses she said that because

the glasses were different shapes there

was a huge difference in sound n s of

pleasant and California did a different

kind of experiment NV used different

kinds of liquids some thick and gooey

like May syrup and some runny like water

and then tap the glasses in the same

spot and H different sounds today we're

going to do both of these experiments to

see what we come up with first we're

going to test out three of these liquids

in the same size glasses then later in

the show we're going to test out

different glasses okay okay guys okay so

what look why don't we just first let's

test out all the glasses make sure they

have the same sound

to w a interesting

thing so we have to kind of hit them in

in the same place sort

of all

right

okay they're all the same sound I think

that's what's going to

happen

okay all right did the same I think they

were all pretty much yeah so now which

type of liquid do you want to test I

want to use water because that's almost

like our BAS we know what that'll sound

like let's try vegetable because it's

sort of thick and yeah gooey can we try

tomato juice cuz I kind of like tomatoes

okay it's cool so we're not going so

we're not going to use these so this

one's going to be control control going

to be regular so first Garr why don't

you pour about one/ third of the way you

just tell me when to

stop okay that's enough okay more more

right there right there it stop stop oh

it's like perfect good job guys I think

the water is going to have a lower and

then I think both of these are going to

have higher sounds than the control so

why don't we test the control to see

what the regular sound is

so yeah so it's like d all

right try

those this one lower it's a little bit

not not much not not as much

okay they're almost the same hit all

them again okay together

oh I can hear the difference this one's

the lowest lowest so this one this one

that one in the middle so it goes It

so okay so do you guys want to try

pouring more liquid in them yeah sure

let's try halfway this time stop so now

right it's water wow that's really

definitely different vegetable oil

this one I think is sort of higher I

know I think it's a little bit higher

tomato juice that one now test the

tomato juice to

the this one's high this one's higher

lower that's good that's good now let's

try them so the control the control that

different

going oh man total difference

that toally it's totally off the

sound oh that doesn't even doesn't even

make a sound it's just like hold it's

just like this it's just like holding oh

practically the same and then all of a

sudden you hear yeah when you have

liquid in the glass I think the

vibrations take a long longer time to

travel yeah they slow down so they don't

for a control one it makes it really

makes a high pit down because there's no

liquid that it has to pass through these

are all actually kind of runny and the

tomato juice might be like thicker than

the but yeah I would think that this

would be the thickest since it's so

goopy but the tomato juice is has more

thicker when an object vibrates it sends

disturbance through the air in the form

of waves these are called sand waves

it's like when you drop a pebble in

water the waves move in all directions

sound waves in air are sort of like

waves in water in the way that they move

further and further out like

this here's a way to feel the vibrations

that make sound waves put your fingers

to your throat and sing or a

vibrations keep watching because later

in the show we'll experiment to see if

these three liquids vibrate differently

when we put them in different

glasses hi my name is Sasha Fon I'm 12

years old and I live in

Philadelphia Philadelphia means the City

of Brotherly Love

but we call it

Philly actually I live in North Philly

it's a typical Urban

neighborhood but what makes my

neighborhood special is that most of the

people that I live here are Latinos from

Puerto Rico or other Caribbean islands

like

me we speak a lot of Spanish

here some of the most colorful examples

of our culture are seen in our mural

on Sundays I go to a Catholic Mass with

my

family like most Catholic churches in

Latino neighborhoods it offers the

service in

Spanish my church also runs the Catholic

school next door called St Hughes toio

is here Vanessa is here Emanuel is here

along with my regular classes I get to

study and practice my Catholic

the after school I usually head over to

for Daniel a community art

center today I'm making one of the most

popular Puerto Rican symbol the

Mas I'm using paper mâché to make this

mess I mix water and glue until it's

soup then I get to put the so strips on

mold I'm making this mask to wear at a

street fair this

Overture earlier we learned that when

you tap a glass that's filled with a

liquid then the liquid slows down the

vibrations

so now we're going to try and see if we

can get different sounds by putting

tomato juice vegetable oil and water in

differently Shaped Glasses right me turn

this

around all right so here we go

I think this one's probably gonna be

higher than the rest of the empty Shaped

Glasses really think the small small why

do you think there's less space to worry

about and there so the vibration could

move out of the glass with air all right

let's trust it good

prediction definitely that's higher and

then let's see this

one whoa that's really

low try the tomato juice like only the

Tomato juices we'll start with the small

one

I think this is the highest yeah I think

that's the highest the large tomato

juice is the

highest yeah yeah it definitely is and

that's the

lowest so so go switch these it goes

that the small tomato juice It Go the

square tomato juice then the small

tomato juice the big tomato

juice

so yeah yeah

all why don't we test out oil okay so

small this one's

higher mhm yeah so I think it goes the

same order as so it would go Square

small so let's see so on the count of

three we're going to both do the same

you do water all right so

this this one seems the highest so the

large one you think so the large one's

highest this one's I so I think they

have pattern so on the count the counter

three we'll all start with this and

we'll work our way down okay ready set

I think this is this so the large glass

was the one with the highest pitch and

then small small is medium square glass

is the one with the low pitch that is

really cool since it's Square because of

its shape the air probably and the

vibrations probably have a harder time

to get through I know I know maybe when

we put the liquids in different shaped

glasses they made different pitch sounds

here's the science group on Pitch when I

tap this glass it produces a low

sound and when I tap this glass it

produces a high sound

the lowness or highness of a sound is

called pitch the pitch of a sound

depends on how fast the object making

the sound vibrates so the glass with the

low pitch sound vibrates

slowly and the glass with the high pitch

sound vibrates

quickly see how many different pitches

you can make using glasses and liquids

can you play a song with them give it a

try and send your results to zoom

us. welcome to Cafe Zoom here's a tree

that's almost too cute to eat it's an

ice cream Snowman Michaela of Florida

emailed us the directions here's what

you need to make one vanilla ice cream

and coconut for the body of your snowman

mini chocolate chip for the eyes mouth

and buttons of your

snowman candy corn for the nose of your

snowman a chocolate wafer for the brim

of the snowman's hat and a marshmallow

for the top of his hat and cocoa so that

the marshmallow will match the brim

first you need to make the body of your

Snowman

make sure your hands are washed and also

make sure that your ice cream isn't too

soft so that it won't melt while you're

trying to do this so take your ice

cream in your scoop and make a pretty

small scoop of ice cream so this is

going to be your

head so there we go and then make a

mediumsized scoop I'm going to use a

bigger scooper cuz it be easier to make

sure it's bigger than the last

one there we go then a largest groop for

the bottom of the

body and then put it down put your ice

cream ba*ls in the freezer for 15

minutes or until they're nice and

frozen I have some that are already

Frozen next one what you want to do is

roll them in

coconut nice

all over

it and then put them on your plate in

order like this

small then the next one which will be

the medium sized one roll it all in

half

medium and then your biggest one oh my

fingers are really

cold all right then you can kind of

attach them so they kind of take so put

them back in the freezer for another 15

minutes while you're waiting you can

make the hat for your

snowman take your marshmallow and put

some melted ice cream on it all around

so rub it on all on the bottom on the

top and then roll it in your

cocoa all right take your taco wafer

cookie and put some melted ice cream

on it it's kind of going to act like

glue it's going it's

[Music]

stuck now I'm let it to decorate I have

some that are already Frozen so I can

decorate right

away so I'm going to use mini chocolate

chips for my

eyes to push them

in a nice big smileing mouth I want my

snowman to be

happy there we go

o if you can't get the chocolate chips

past the coconut just push down to it

and get past to the ice cream and I'm

going to use mini chocolate chips also

for the buttons

so there we

go then you want to take your candy corn

looks like a carrot and put a pointy end

up the

nose and put on your hat so you're going

to do it so that the marshmallow is

facing

outward when you're done you can put

your ice cream snowman back in the

freezer to get it to be firm or you can

eat it right away I'm going to eat it

times we make paper crons every day
