the battle rounds continued.

We haven't had a bad battle yet.

Daly: ...As they faced
the vocal fight of their lives.

We got smart competitors here...
all of them.

Daly: And our four superstar
coaches were blown away

as their artists battled it out.

Christina: They really
stepped up to the plate,

and that's what's so great
about the battle rounds

is you don't see people coming sometimes.

Christina, who is the winner
of this battle?

Oh, my God. I'm so torn.

Daly: Our coaches had to make
the agonizing decision...

- Sucks, doesn't it?
Christina: - It does.

...of choosing
the best of the best to move on.

They both did so great. They did.

Blake: This is where
we narrow down the field,

and nobody's had an easy choice so far.

The winner of this battle...

Sam. I'm gonna go with Liz.

- Dez.
Christina: - It makes me sad

because there are great people on my team

that I know, at the end of the day,

I've got to let somebody
that's super talented go.

Daly: - With the teams narrowing down...
- Whoa!

their final steals.

Adam: There are incredibly
talented people on all the teams,

but I got the best steals.

Daly: And our coaches suffered
the heartbreak

of sending one of their own home.

It is tough, and I can only choose one.

hearts, and that part sucks.

Christina: With the option to steal
other artists off of the guys' teams,

it definitely ups the stakes.

The artists will be helped
by some of the biggest names

I didn't come this far just to go home.

The question is, are you gonna
be able to do it on game day?

because, in the end, only one
artist will win it all...

The battle rounds continue right now.

It's night five of the battle rounds,

and while Cee Lo and his team
adviser, Rob Thomas, get ready,

let's take a look at the night's
first two competitors.



versus 21-year-old Daniel Rosa
from California.

During the blind auditions,

Daniel Rosa returned to the "Voice" stage.

I like it.

Daly: And with his second chance,

he caught the ear of Blake and Cee Lo.

Do you remember me? You guys remember me?

Adam: If there was ever a story to tell

- about how not to give up on your dream...

Daniel: Last season, it was just
confidence that was missing.

With this second chance,
I'm gonna do my best.

Daly: New Orleans native Alexis Marceaux

- went through a lot to make it
in the blind auditions. - Whoo!

Alexis: After hurricane Katrina,
music was the true therapy

in going through what I went through.

Daly: And her perseverance paid off.

and I think that they can put

This song could be embellished
upon in a few different areas.

that you were kind of playing it safe

- because you probably have a habit

...very precision-tuned.

I want to try to do something
more like what Daniel's doing,

'cause I think it gives the song
more meaning when he...

I mean, you can hear the pain
in that, you know, so...

Cee Lo: Being classically
trained is one thing,

but being constricted by it is another.

Alexis should just kind of relax
and settle into it.

- Daniel, you want to give it a shot?

How do you feel about it?

Do you feel more confident
than you look right now?

I think it's just more
the environment of everything

that's kind of terrifying.

But, see, the question is,

- are you gonna be able to do it
on game day? - Yeah.

I didn't really know
what to think about the song

because it's very not me.

The nerves kind of came back again,

and I wasn't really happy with that.

I know that you can do it,
'cause I heard you do it.

Rob: I love Daniel.

I mean, obviously,
he has confidence issues,

but that lack of confidence
is the vulnerable part of him

that comes out in his voice,
and that's really hard to find.

It will never happen if you
don't believe it's gonna happen.

Exactly.

Daly: With one day to go
before their battle,

Alexis and Daniel have their
final rehearsal with Cee Lo.

- How you guys doing?
- Doing great.

I don't know. I feel like,
because he has been here before,

I don't know if I'm gonna win this.

I'm not biased either way it

we're cut from the same cloth.

that my classical training

might be a disadvantage, and I knew that

because of him and Rob Thomas
talking about

me articulating too much.

So I've definitely decreased that.

Cee Lo: Daniel, come on.

You got to compete with this girl.

Yeah. I'm afraid
that I'm not gonna be able to

hit those higher notes.

Alexis: I think, for Daniel,
his weakness is

that he doesn't know that he can hit notes

the way he can hit them.

And this is a huge opportunity for me.

I just don't want to sound bad.

I just don't know
if I'm willing to risk that.

What are you willing to risk
to win this thing, Daniel?

The notes are extremely scary to me

because it's not like
they're, like, extremely high.

It's like right on the edge
of where I can almost hit.

That's what makes it so terrifying.

She's classically trained.

She hardly needs any critique,
and she thinks she can beat you.

I don't know how to coach anyone
to play it safe,

and Daniel needs to understand

that the real reward
is in the risk you take.

Daly: The time has come for
Alexis and Daniel to face off.

One will win and move on. One may go home.

Alexis: Going through hurricane Katrina

has definitely taught me
to seize each moment.

Daniel: I have to get on that
stage, and I have to just show

that confidence
that I didn't have last season.

so... I need to take advantage of it.

Christina: I thought you guys
were a great matchup.

A little bit of critique
for Daniel, especially,

would be to work on turning your
performance out to the audience

because I wanted to engage
so much with you.

And, Alexis, it seems like
you have a softer sort of voice,

and it seemed like you
were really taking some risks,

which I love.

I love risk-takers.

So, as far as battle rounds are concerned,

I thought Alexis took it
a little bit more.

First of all, I... I thought
you both did a great job

in representing team Cee Lo so well.

I did see improvement in both of you.

your classical training,

you can be adaptable

to just about anything
that you like to do.

But, Daniel... his voice affects me

in the kind of way it hurts me
in such a... in such a good way.

I'm not classically trained,

but I am flawed in a very fantastic way.

And I'm connected with...
