It is now time to bring it as a coach.

All it takes is a push of a button.

It really comes down to just
feeling it and going for it.

Daly: ...The blind auditions continue,

as the best singers in the nation...

Daly: ...Lay it all on the line,
hoping for a chair to turn.

Amanda: I do need a coach
to turn around for me,

so I can learn and grow and
expand my knowledge musically.

Daly: Our coaches
have been filling their teams

based on what moves them the most.

Adam has 14 singers on his team.

Adam: I want to have great,
amazing, inspiring singers

from any genre imaginable.

Daly: Christina and Cee Lo
each have picked up 13 artists.

Christina: So many of my teammates

are bringing a fresh energy to the table.

It's something we haven't seen quite yet.

Cee Lo: Nobody never knows what I'm up to.

And that's my secret weapon...
unpredictability.

Daly: And Blake has the fewest singers,

with only 12 on his team.

I definitely have
some quiet K*llers in there.

No question.

Daly: With only a few coveted spots left,

our coaches are determined
to find special voices.

There's so many different elements

that go into why we push our buttons,

but when we do, we know
it's something pretty special.

Daly: - And they will fight hard for the
ones they want. - Ha! Ha!

the anticipation of more impressive voices

fills the room.

Let's kick things off
with our first artist.

My name is Sylvia Yacoub.

I'm 19 years old,
and I'm from Muskegon, Michigan.

I was born in Alexandria, Egypt.

Growing up in Egypt as a woman

is not as easy as it is in America.

We don't get as many opportunities

just because we're women.

And so my dad brought us to America

'cause he wanted his kids to
have every opportunity possible.

What was your musical influence?

Her, actually.

I listened to her sing, like,
ever since I was little.

Did you want to sing professionally?

My mom grew up in Egypt, and she
wasn't able to follow her dreams

just 'cause she was a woman.

And I'm here on "The Voice" now,

and I just want
to make these dreams come true

for me and my mom.

I need this to happen.

My parents worked really hard
to get us all the way over here

so we can follow our dreams.

So it would be amazing

if we could actually fulfill those dreams

after all that they've done for us.

If no chairs turn, I'll be going
back to school, actually.

I have an interest in law,
but my passion falls in singing,

and I really, really, really
want that opportunity.

This is definitely gonna be
the biggest audience

of my life.

And there are no second chances.

That was a genuine disappointment

that she didn't pick me.

I.J.: My voice is really high.

I kind of sound like a girl,
but I'm not worried about it

'cause they're gonna turn around anyway.

I'm getting nervous.

I'm 25 years old,
and I'm from a very small town

called Warsaw, North Carolina.

For me, it came off really strong.

I could feel the energy.

You had a lot of high energy.

You came out almost,

Unfortunately, I get the same feedback

from everybody that I sing for.

Not that I sound like a girl...
I know I sound like a girl.

But once people see me and then hear me,

I think that's the special thing
about me and my voice.

It never ceases to amaze me
when I think it's a girl.

I didn't even think
for second that it wasn't.

I could have swore it was a girl.

He works on a pig farm,

and he pointed at me when he said that.

He did. He said, "pig farm."

I should have been like, "what?"

I'm on my way to Long Beach, California,

to surprise our next artist, Charlie Rey.

Charlie's worked
at this smog shop for his dad

for seven years.

His real dream is to perform onstage.

Let's get him
one step closer to that dream.



My name's Charlie Rey.
I am a smog technician.

My dad owns a shop,

and I'm blessed enough
to be able to work with him.

He's the only guy
who really truly believed

what I was capable of.

Let's take off the air filter and
take a look at the air filter.

What is causing this, though?

I got my smog license mainly for
my pop 'cause he needs time off.

He's working there way too much.

He's got levels
of carbon monoxide in his blood.

I see him every day, and I see
the toll it takes on him.

So I appreciate
the sacrifice that he makes,

and I plan to repay him.

Hey, Charlie.

Can that smog wait for a second?

Congratulations, man.

your invitation to the blind auditions.

To take the singing
from the garage to the stage

is something that I've been dreaming of

since I was 8 years old,

and, you know, this is
the ticket to get me there.

So it's just the coolest thing ever.

I'm auditioning for "The Voice"

because it's a good chance to
really get your name out there

and show, you know, America

I actually do have the ability to sing.

This is a huge opportunity, Charlie.

How can you make this work in your favor?

What can you do
in that short period of time

to get a chair to turn around?

Just go out and sing
my butt off, I guess, man.

You know, just have
all four of them turn around...

it's the goal.

I'm totally nervous.

Less than two weeks ago, I was
breathing in smog all day long,

and now that I'm at this stage,
it's what I've been dreaming of.

It terrifies me.

so I can move on from my old life.

also has a voice that impresses.

Amanda: Growing up,

I spent most of my time in church.

It was mainly gospel music
that I listened to.

But when I heard Radiohead
for the first time,

I was just like,
"what is this?! This is good!"

[ Laughs ]

At that point,

I decided to really go
full force pursuing music.

Now I'm all about
experiencing different genres.

But there's always gonna be
that 5-year-old girl

who grew up in church,
who's singing "Amazing Grace."

- Team Amanda Brown, all right!

- I'm Amanda. Nice to meet you.

What's the support group here?

This is my sister, and this is my mom.

- Yay!

Where are you getting
your music outlet right now?

I used to sing background
for a few artists.

- Mm-hmm. - Right now
I'm kind of, like, focusing on me.

Amanda: My experience singing background

has been pretty awesome, actually.

I got to travel the world

and perform with artists like Adele

that helped me realize I really
do want to be my own artist.

I've been working really hard
at becoming a solo artist,

but it hasn't worked out thus far.

I do need a coach to turn around for me

so I can learn and grow and
expand my knowledge musically.

I am moving on to a new phase in my life,

and hopefully that phase

doesn't necessarily include
background singing.

It includes me being at the forefront.

And you know I'm a big fan
of those ad-libs.

Let's see if 55-year-old Yolanda Barber

has the life experience

to get our coaches to push their buttons.

It's amazing to be 55
and be in a competition

with a bunch of 15-, 20-year-olds.



What does singing and doing
music mean to you right now?

Yolanda: Oh, man.

This is the most amazing thing

that I think has happened
to me in a long time.

I've been singing about 40, 45 years.

At 16, I moved to L.A.

Never had a manager, never had an agent.

So I would do a gig here, a gig there.

And then I continued on
to work the cruise ships

until maybe two years ago

because they let 30 entertainers go

because of the economy, unfortunately.

So I took a job driving a school vehicle.

You're obviously

one of our more experienced
artists this season.

And I understand I'm the oldest,
so that's probably...

Or you're the most experienced.
It depends on how you look at it.

[ Laughs ]

I'm here to represent the 50 and over.

I really thought it was too late for me.

I was just doing little jobs at home...

driving a school vehicle.

And I thought that was it.

But I know now today
I'm supposed to be here.

This is my time.

And I'm gonna take it all the way.

Well, I'll tell you from my perspective.

There were numerous times that I
almost truly did push my button.

But at this point in the game,

we're all sort of forming our teams

and we're looking for specific sounds.

But you know, Yolanda,
how amazing you are.

a seasoned vocalist.

I mean, like, how long
have you been singing and...

Well, I've been singing about 40 years.

I'm 55.

cruise ships the last 10 years,

and, you know, they let a lot of us go.

So I've been driving a school bus.

It's just been a great,
great pleasure to be here.

that brief moment in the sun

to, kind of, fall in love with her.

who's ready to leave her rock band behind

and break out on her own.

I'm Cassadee Pope.

I'm 22 years old, originally
from West Palm Beach, Florida.

And I'm a full-time musician.

Around 13 years old,
I started playing in bands.

And when I was 18,
I put this band together...

we called it "Hey, Monday"...

and we did a few tours with "Fall Out Boy".

And one of the coolest things
was Pete Wentz.

He was, like, a mentor for my band.

He took us out on tour,
and I got to tour the world.

I got to meet incredible people.

It was amazing.

So you've already been
in a band and toured.

Yeah, man.

Any worry about going solo?

I'm a little nervous, but it's
like a nervous-ready feeling.

- Mm-hmm. - But it feels good.
As long as I'm up there singing...

I love my band,

but I'm definitely at a point in my life

where I'm ready to make it on my on.

Being by myself now, it's been amazing,

but it's definitely
a huge dose of reality.

I'm most nervous about playing

in front of these four incredible artists,

who I respect so much.

I'm not gonna go up there and hold back.

I'm gonna leave it all on the stage

and hope that that's enough.

I stepped out.
