volunteer and what do you do I volunteer

at at my school for Market day which is

a fundraiser and I also volunteer at my

church I volunteer to go around and pick

up press because I don't like trash I

help people build things the type of

volunteer I do is help my mom and dad

when they don't ask me to I just

volunteer to do it I volunteer at my

school helping the teachers after school

like cleaning up their classrooms I

usually volunteer at Cub Scout camp

because I um I'm really good at helping

I bring people to their tant it's really

and they say thank you and it's a one

feeling I get one feeling inside

awesome today we're going to play with

bubbles there's all different fun ways

to make Bubbles and we're going to show

you a few this is a good thing to do

outside this bubble frame is really easy

to put together and makes really cool

bubbles all you need is two straws and a

piece of string put the string to the

two straws and then tie the ends arrange

the straws on the string so it looks

like a frame like

this another fun way to make bubbles is

to bend hangers like this into all

different kinds of shapes be sure to ask

an adult for help because hangers can be

sharp here's a bigger version of my

bubble frame you can make the frame

using two pieces of plastic tubing and a

long piece of cloes line then take

another piece of cloes line and add it

to the top to make a

handle now we're going to test out of

designs you might want to make your own

homemade bubble mixture a good recipe is

1 cup of dishwashing liquid 3 to 4 tbsp

of Glycerin and 12 cups of water we

quadrupled the recipe to fill this pool

you can find glycerin at your local

pharmacy you can use this small bubble

frame by dipping it into the bubble

solution and then lifting it up very

slowly like this and it makes this

really cool like window bubble now I'm

going to test out the

hangers okay let me try look look look W

did you ever wonder if there's life on

other

planets how the Galaxy's

formed or if a human will ever walk on

Pluto hi my name is Katie hogland I'm 12

years old and I live in Sherman o

California when I grew up I want to be

an astrophysicist which is the person

who studies the stars and planets

spinning through space there are

countless objects to study in the

sky I agree with many astronomers who

think that there are more stars in our

universe than there are grains of sand

on this

beach possibly more stars and there are

grains of sand on every beach in the

entire

world but most of the objects in space

are too far away to see very well with

your naked

eye that's why you need a telescope

this is my telescope I built it

myself it magnifies far away objects and

makes them appear bigger like the

moon my telescope took me 30 hours to

build it's mostly made of ordinary

material the design is so simple that

anyone can build

it it's lightweight and I can move it

around

myself the tube is made of cardboard

the base is

plywood this shower cap works as a dust

cover to keep the dust off the

mirror it's a 10-in reflecting telescope

and this is how it

works light from stars and planets

enters the top of the telescope and is

collected at the bottom of the tube by a

10-in curved mirror the light then

bounces off the 10-in mirror back up the

tube to the second smaller mirror

here the light is then reflected into

the eyepiece which magnifies or enlarges

the

image the hardest part is grinding the

glass for the mirror it takes about 10

hours after we're done with that we take

it to an illuminizer who makes it more

like a

mirror this is the finished product a

10in

reflector the thing like most about

building a telescope is that now I get

to share astronomy with other people

would you like to come look at the moon

free really is that really the moon wa

that is I belong to a group called

sidewalk astronomers we go out on

streets near movie theaters and shopping

malls showing people free views through

our

telescope yeah what does it look like it

looks like a it looks like a big piece

great is there life out there can we

colonize other planets we don't know the

answers to all of these questions yet so

for now I'll just keep on

make a musical instrument using a

drinking straw all you do is flatten one

end of the straw

like that yep that's pretty good okay

then with the pair of scissors cut out a

vshape in the

straw

tall just like that

okay this will act as a read just like

in a

clarinet place the V end of the strap in

your mouth so that the V is just past

the inside of your mouth then press on

the V with your lips while blowing like

this this might take some practice

maybe we have to kind of open it up open

it up a

little oh here we go I think this will

work

awesome here's another cool thing you

can Doom cut the straw and then blow on

it listen to how the pitch gets higher

this is because the smallest straw

vibrates

differently

okay that's awesome

y that's awesome it's like hitting this

ruler when you bring the ruler closer to

the table it makes a different sound

it's also because it vibrates

differently oh cool I like this

sound that's really cool I know see if

you can make a musical instrument that

uses vibrations in different ways if you

there's a narrow bridge so you can only

carry one item at a time if left alone

the fox will eat the chicken

up and the chicken will eat the chicken

feet hey how can you get all three

can't they all going on line cuz you you

have to carry them across okay well well

maybe we can think about bringing back I

think the chicken should go across first

because then the fox doesn't eat the

chicken feed and the chicken feed

obviously doesn't eat the
