to impress our coaches,

but for our next young hopeful,
the stakes are even higher.

I traveled to New York
to hand-deliver his invitation.

I'm jamar Rogers.
I'm 29 years old.

I live in the Bronx, New York.

When I'm not writing music and
recording, I actually volunteer.

We give food to 4,000 people
a day

that are living
with life-threatening illnesses,

like HIV/A*DS, M.S., cancer.

It's the most rewarding thing
I could ever do.

Six years ago,
I got clean off of crystal meth

after being addicted hard-core.

I was homeless
for a little while.

I also found out, six years ago,

because of my drug use,
I was HIV-positive.

And at that time, I had no hope.

I didn't think that I could
ever get out of the hole

that I was in,
and here I am.

I'm in the middle
of New York City,

about to meet jamar.

I'm about to give him something
that could change his life.

Can I give you a hand

for even considering doing this.

My wife's the most amazing girl
on the planet.

She's been through everything

was being with my wife.

I'm 31 years old
and from St. Louis, Missouri.

I originally enlisted
in the air force

as a b-2 stealth b*mber
mission planner,

but music has always been
my heart and my soul,

so I auditioned
for the air force band,

and it is the best job
in the military.

The primary mission of
military bands is troop morale.

We give them a couple of hours
of relaxation

and time for them to remember
that they're human beings,

because we give them
a song and they remember,

"oh, that was played
at my prom,"

or, "that was my wedding song."

It just kind of helps them
reconnect with themselves.

I've gone on seven
middle eastern deployments.

And... and one little set
that we did,

someone in the audience
taped it on their phone,

and they uploaded it
to their YouTube channel.

And within 11 days,
it had over a million views.

The whole thing was surreal.

The quickness
that it caught on with people

was hard to keep up with.

I got friend requests
from people on Facebook

from countries
that I'd never even heard of.

And I have this e-mail saying,

"hey, you need to check out
Carson Daly's Twitter page."

This is so crazy...
how this whole thing happened.

I saw a woman
in a military outfit

singing
an incredible Adele song,

and I was like,
"look at this hot chick singing,

who's defending
our country."

I mean, it was
really remarkable.

I was like,
"she's got to get a shot,"

and here you are

to walk on that stage
