-[all laughing]

[somber music playing]

[Dario] Know what the biggest problem
in my life right now is?

-What?
-[Dario] You.

You're the biggest problem
in my life right now.

[upbeat music playing]

[Dario] You suck.
You're out here fake as hell.

Tell me why I should think
that you don't suck.

You know what I'm saying?
Yeah, I ain't putting in my time no more.

Dario does not want me
to not need him anymore.

And he's been very mean to me lately.

really good thing.

[Irulan] The fact
that they've been together so long,

it seems,
that he knows what buttons to push.

that I broke up with him. I don't know.

Maybe he's just trying to hurt me.
Maybe that's how he sees me.

But at this point,

And it's like you're too nice.

that anyone deserves to be treated,

or mistreated in any way.
And it's just not worth it.

-[Arissa] I don't know.

[Trishelle] Let's find you something

I'm up at the Ghostbar. [sighs]

Why did I come here?

There's not one handsome guy.

I look over and I'm just like… [gasps]

This is Alex.

Alex is gorgeous.

I think that it's healthy for her
to sort of take a step back from Dario.

And just do something
that's fun and makes her happy.

I spent about four hours
just talking to this gentleman.

[Arissa] Oh, my God.
What am I thinking?

Like, what is going on
through my head right now, you know?

And then Alex is also saying,
"Well, you know, I'm a little scared

because, you know,
you're from Massachusetts,

and I really like you,
and you know, I live in California."

[upbeat music playing]

He's a Scorpio.
Every man that I've ever been

ridiculously attracted to
has been a Scorpio.

He was like, "I don't drink,
I don't smoke. I have no vices."

"No girlfriend. No wife, no kids."

Oh, boy.
Came on, Irulan. I'm all good.

-You're smitten?
-[Arissa] I'm smitten.

-I'm buggin' that--
-Smitten like a little kitten?

Girl…

What kind of hat is this anyway?

[gasps] Gucci.

To find somebody
that I'm attracted to and just be around,

it makes me feel like I am 16 again.

Girl!

-[upbeat music playing]
-[train whistle blowing]

Have to forgive me if I seem out of it.

I'm having so much anxiety.
Like, it sucks.

Like, when did this all come on?
Like, you were laying out by the pool?

Yeah. And it came on.

A panic attack is overwhelming.

They're like a fear of losing control.
A fear of going crazy.

You just get really panicky.
Your heart races.

You think of the worst.
Your hands sweat. It sucks.

I call my mom.
I'm like, "I'm going crazy."

And she's like, "No, you're not." [sighs]

'Cause she when through
the same thing when she was 25.

And I'm like,
"I seriously feel like I have no control."

And she's like, "That's how they work."

[Steve] Is it like a hormonal thing?

[Brynn] Yeah, it's just like…
it's a chemical imbalance to the…

[Brynn sighing]

-It's a chemical imbalance up here?
-[Brynn] Yeah.

And they're genetic. That's why I get it.

But I honestly, like, get on the Internet,
and I look up it. And I'm like,

"Oh, my God. I probably have
schizophrenia or something."

And then I panic about that.

No. You just need to go see somebody.

-[Brynn] Yeah.
-[telephone ringing]

[Brynn] My mom said she was gonna help me.

She was-- She took drugs.
She took Xanax and got addicted to it.

-And had to go to rehab for it.
-[telephone ringing continues]

[Brynn] Hello? Mom?

-[Brynn's mom] What's going on?
-Just having really bad anxiety.

-[Brynn's mom] I went through that.
-[Brynn sighs]

But like an all-day thing?
It's like all day.

[somber music playing]

[Brynn sighs]

[Brynn's mom]
Because the more you think about it the--

-The worse it gets.
-[Brynn's mom] Yes.

[Brynn] I feel like maybe
I have schizophrenia or something.

[Brynn's mom] You don't.

But I sit there,
and I like can't just relax.

[Brynn's mom]
It's part of the anxiety thing, Brynn.

-Are you sure?
-[Brynn's mom] I'm positive.

Like, sometimes I feel like
I'm not even in control of my body.

[Brynn's mom] Hmm.

It's all a part of the panic disorder.

[Brynn] I just don't-- I'm so scared.

[Brynn's mom] Brynn,
I wouldn't tell you if I didn't know.

Are you sure
you wouldn't tell me that I was crazy?

[Brynn's mom laughing] No.
It's not schizophrenia. I promise you.

-I'm so scared, though.
-[somber music playing]

-[telephone ringing]
-[soft music playing]

[Irulan] Arissa? It's your boyfriend.

-[Arissa laughs] Hello?
-[Alex] Hello, there.

-[laughs]
-[Alex laughing]

-That was cute.
-It wasn't.

-[Alex] Yeah. It's your boyfriend.
-Shut up.

[Alex laughing] So I'm here too soon, huh?

Yeah, can you give me like 15 minutes?

-[Alex] Oh, no problem.
-Okay.

-[Arissa] Hi!
-Hi, beautiful. How are you?

-[indistinct chatter]
-One diet, please, and you want a water?

-I'll just have water.
-And a bottle of water.

[soft music playing]

-[Alex] Have you been married?
-[indistinct chatter]

-You were in a six-year relationship?
-[Arissa] Yes.

Not even like a ring on your finger?

-Nothing?
-[Arissa] No.

[Alex] By six years,
there's definitely gonna be…

It's gonna be like right there.
Or it's like here.

-[Alex] Right--
-Or on their way like,

-you know?
-[Alex] Right.

And I always…

Like, I always want
to have like an amicable breakup.

You know, for the longest time, like,
it just-- It wasn't a good situation.

I really haven't dated other people.

So, for me to go out
and see what else is out there

will either solidify, "Okay, it's right.
You don't need to be with Dario."

Or point me back in his direction.

[Alex] I don't know if it's easy for you,
to like conversate with people.

Like, you know, like find people
that you just, like, talk about anything

and everything, you know?
And you want to get to know 'em.

-I enjoy this much better actually.
-Thank you.

It's weird because it's hard
to find people that I do want to talk to.

I can't.

[upbeat music playing]

Tuesday, I'm going to…

What happened?

I just had the greatest conversation
I could possibly have in my life.

-[Alton] Didn't give him your hat--
-[indistinct chatter]

-[Alton] The hat yet?
-I gave him back his hat.

-[Alton] Oh.
-He's gonna buy me another one.

-[Alton] He is? Nice--
-And bring it back next weekend.

-Or this coming weekend.
-You're all happy with yourself,

-aren't you?
-[Arissa] I don't even care

about anything else.
I'm just like… And he calls me beautiful.

To be called beautiful is,
like, such a term of endearment.

And I think that it's very sweet.

You know, he just seems so perfect.
And she doesn't really know him.

But I think the idea of Alex
is very appealing to Arissa.

Because she's sort of in this time
of need for something positive with a man.

Be careful.
I told you about the Chilean-Italian.

He wanted to move me
to Ibiza and buy me a villa.

-[bleep] it.
-[Alton chuckling]

-To Ibiza…
-That [bleep] sounds like a plan.

[upbeat music playing]

[upbeat music concludes]

It's been so anxiety for me.

Like, everything--
I've had an anxiety attack all day today,

was sick to my stomach
and had to sleep it off. And…

I just… I feel really bad.

♪ Why do they see me
When the sun don't shine? ♪

♪ And you cannot find your way ♪

♪ Oh, oh, oh, oh ♪

I feel like you're looking at me
like I am some lunatic and depressed.

-Or that needs to take drugs…
-[Steve] No!

-…to get by on her everyday life.
-[Steve] No, no, you definitely don't!

I was telling him
about when I have an anxiety attack.

Like, what I go through and how I feel.

And he got into this big spiel of,

"Well, the brain chemicals
and the neurotransmitters."

And was basically like,

"You should be on
some kind of antidepressant."

But the "stereotype"
on taking Paxil or Prozac or any of that

is that you're depressed or you're crazy
and you need to take that.

Well, then my mom,
and my aunt, and my sister are crazy.

Because that side--
My mom and my sisters are on it.

-I don't know!
-And I'm not.

I don't think my mom,
and my aunt, and my sister are crazy.

I just think
that they have chemical imbalances.

And they're up and down
with how happy they are.

And there's no reason to be like that.

Brynn seems to me
to be trapped in her own mind.

She's struggling with all these--
The stresses of life.

And with having a chemical imbalance
or whatever is wrong with Brynn

in Brynn's head,
that's just magnifying everything.

I feel like
I should be emotionally strong enough--

A strong enough person to take care of it.

[Steve] Some things are out of your hands.

[sighs] I need somebody
to understand what I'm going through.

And right now,

I feel like my mom is really
the only person that does.

[upbeat music playing]

-[dial tone trilling]
-[telephone beeping]

[line trilling]

[line trilling continues]

Why is my mom not home?

[upbeat music playing]

[Trishelle]
Brynn, are you okay? What's wrong?

[Brynn] My mom is back in rehab! [sobs]

[Trishelle] Oh, my God.

I had received a card from my mother.
And it was very touching and sentimental.

She said, "I'm again entering rehab.
After my surgeries and everything,

I kept on taking the pain pills
even after I did not need them."

"So, it is off I go for a refresher.
I love you, Brynn."

"And know, I miss you more than you know."
[Brynn sniffles]

-"I love you."
-[Trishelle] Come here.

[upbeat music playing]

[Brynn sniffles]

-[Trishelle] I hate to see Brynn upset…
-[Brynn sobs]

…because I see like,

"God, I've been there before."
like, with her whole anxiety.

-[Brynn] Am I overreacting?
-[Trishelle] No, of course not.

I've never been as depressed as she is.
But I mean, I can kind of relate to her.

[sniffles] I want to go home.

[upbeat music playing]

[soft music playing]

[bird screeching]

What's going on? Is she--
When does she get home?

[Brynn's stepdad] Seventeen to 21 days.
I'm not sure. Has not been fun.

[clicks tongue]
Did she want to go or did you make her?

[Brynn's stepdad] I can't make her, Brynn.

Yeah.

-[Brynn's stepdad] No, I… I pushed.
-Yeah.

[Brynn's stepdad] But she made
the decision. I supported it.

[Brynn] I feel like if I go home
and be with my mom and support her,

it would be good,
because she's been there for me.

I'm thinking I was gonna try
to come home for the weekend. [sighs]

-[Brynn's stepdad] This weekend?
-Yeah.

[Brynn's stepdad]
Won't do you any good to see her.

[Brynn sniffling]
'Cause she can't see anybody, huh?

-[Brynn's stepdad] Nope.
-I guess I'll just stay here then.

[Brynn's stepdad] It's okay, Brynn.
It's better this way.

I am beginning
to see my family in a different light.

And maybe,
beforehand, I've just kind of like

labeled them and put them off to the side.

But now, like, going through this
and talking to my family about it,

to really see
that my family really does care.

And my mom is really proud of me.

-[Brynn's stepdad] Miss you.
-I miss you, too.

-[Brynn's stepdad] I love you. Okay.
-I love you, too.

-Bye.
-[Brynn's stepdad] Bye.

[Brynn sniffles]

I've pushed my mom aside so much

and just been downplaying her role
in my life.

I just want to be more significant in…

my family's life. [sniffles]

When you get home,
like you'll have to settle

a lot of differences or whatever--
Not differences, but things.

But it'll be cool.
Like, it'll be all good.

And you'll just feel so relaxed
when you're at home.

[Brynn] Yeah.

[Trishelle] Most of us here
have unfinished business.

Like, I have totally
a lot of unfinished business.

-[Brynn] Yeah.
-And I was like,

"First thing I'm gonna do
when I get home is go to my mom's grave."

There's this permanent knot in my stomach.

[Brynn] Yeah, and probably something
missing in your heart.

[Trishelle] Yeah,
since she's died, you know?

[Brynn] But once you go there
and you feel that,

like it'll all come together.

I'm just so scared that I won't be able
to handle it in my mind.

Because I know how powerful
my mind is, just like yours.

And like I'm scared to just freak out,
but I have to do it for myself.

When you find somebody
that can relate to something

that you're going through,
it kind of eases everything out.

You can kind of breathe
a little bit easier.

[Trishelle] I think Brynn
and I are a lot closer,

and I think that it's more genuine
than it was before.

You know,
I feel like before it was just like,

"Okay, she's my roommate,
I have to be nice."

But now, I want to be nice to her.

["I Belong to You" playing]

I just want my mom to know
that I do care and I do believe in her.

And that I thank her for everything
that she's ever done for me.

I want to feel peace with myself.

I want to be happy and healthy.
And I just want some stability.

-Um, guess what.
-[Irulan] What?

He's gonna be here on,
uh, Friday or Saturday.

Alex called me and told me
that he'll be here this week.

-[Trishelle] You excited?
-Yes!

[Trishelle] How long is he staying?

[Arissa] He can only stay
like a day or two.

[Trishelle] Oh, Arissa.
I'm so happy for you.

And he said that he's been thinking
about me since he left.

I'm nervous
that he is like the perfect guy.

And I'm thrown for a loop.

Weren't you happy he called?

Yes, 'cause I was all like,
"He's not gonna come."

"He's not gonna come see me."

And he's like, "Of course
I'm gonna come see you."

He's like, "I told you I would, didn't I?"

-[Trishelle squeals]
-And like it's so weird,

'cause I'm so untrusting
of anything that I'm like, "Mmm."

She's just thinking
that Alex is gonna be the one

to sweep her off her feet,
whenever he gets here.

And he's gonna be the reason for her
to not ever want to see Dario again.

[upbeat rock music playing]

[Arissa] I'm looking forward
to Alex's visit,

because it's gonna show me something.
You know, this will be the test.

[soft music playing]

Okay, you told me that you were coming.

You know,
you're leaving me these messages.

9:45, I go upstairs thinking,
"Okay, there's traffic on the strip."

"The plane is late, whatever."
Something tells me to check my messages.

-[operator] You have one new message.
-[answering machine beeping]

What time was he supposed to be here?

-[Arissa] 9:15.
-[line trilling]

On my voicemail, two messages from Alex.

Oh, my God.
You have to hear this. Oh, [bleep].

-I can't even believe this.
-[Alex] Hey, Arissa, this is Alex.

I got cold feet.
I couldn't get on the plane.

[sighing] I'm sorry. I just got scared.

You know,
I really like you and I don't know

-what's gonna happen in the future.
-[indistinct chatter]

[Alex] And I don't want
to get my hopes up for nothing.

-When you have a chance, please call me.
-[phone beeping]

-[Trishelle] Oh, my God!
-Can you believe that?

-What are you gonna do?
-I'm not gonna do [bleep].

What are you thinking?
What are you thinking right now?

You know, um…

I don't even know.

Arissa's trying
to play it off like she's not upset

that Alex did not show up.

But I know, deep down inside, she's upset,
because she was so excited the whole time.

I'm flabber--
Like what were you expecting to happen?

Maybe he just really, really likes you.

He doesn't know
how to deal with his feelings.

That's a crock of [bleep].

[soft music playing]

You have to understand
and I'm gonna be really, really honest

with you, okay?

People make mistakes. If the relationship
is worth it enough to you,

you can learn to accept them.

About a week ago, meeting somebody…

-[Dario] Yeah.
-…while I was here,

and then talking to Trishelle,
you know, I had…

I'm having second thoughts
about everything.

"Maybe I'm really supposed to be
with Dario, but I just don't know."

So I go outside, 9:15. No-show.

The moral of the story is,

I never got to see
this person again and will never.

Because I ended up
leaving him a message yesterday.

Basically, thanking him
for not getting on that plane.

I don't know. I feel weird.

For the whole time, like, I--

It would make me think about you.

Is it really, really over?

Or would I have to start fresh,
you know, with Dario?
