show you this needle postcard our friend

us it's from the country called

Australia home of the KOA and the

back I just got to say I want to spend

my day with you you are my best friend I

want to share the things you do oh baby

smile o ooh wow I just want to spend my

you I just want to SP my day with

you I know one will agree on my favorite

ice cream is yummy and sweet my favorite

ice cream is a chocolate treat everybody

loves chocolate ice cream okay I got one

my favorite ice cream is good to eat

vanilla ice cream can't be beat your

favorite ice cream is vanilla but there

are so many wonderful flavors I know but

my favorite is vanilla you're just

forgetting all the others let's see

there's chocolate of course and

strawberry rocky road and peppermint and

cookies and cream and I'm not forgetting

all of those Melissa you mean you don't

like chocolate ice cream oh yeah I like

chocolate ice cream a lot M okay then

you have to make up a rhyme about

chocolate ice cream what vanilla is my

favorite that's impossible nobody's

favorite ice cream is

vanilla I can like chocolate best if you

want me to

wait I'm sorry you don't have to like

the same things or even like to do the

same things

to you don't just because it's mine

doesn't mean it has to be

yours because I like vanilla ice cream

best vanilla ice cream's wonderful

gerbert I wonder what was so funny I

don't know but with those two it's

probably about something spiteful what

do you say that for Melissa we used to

be good friends with hatley's whole

family but hatley's changed he's always

up to no good and whatever Hatley does

Max does and they're always getting into

trouble at school well I've heard

they're great but your fifth graders

they never be friends with me I'm a

sixth grader and I'm your friend yeah

but that's different Melissa you're a

girl sometimes a guy just wants to be

one of the guys I understand but just be

careful who you decide to be one of the

guys with

brush hello out there kids once again

it's art time with me your favorite host

and paint BR Vinnie BR hey like music I

have music and I'm playing just the

other day I was working on an art

project and I didn't have a radio so I

didn't have any music I wanted it so I

made my own music by making an

instrument call A marcka or a Shaker and

you can make it too got one right here

[Music]

see it's really fun and it's really easy

if you just try it all you need empty

soda pot bottle all emptied and dried

out you need some mixed beans rice some

bird seed or little Pebbles anything

that you can get into that bottle if you

can shake it make a sandwich

don't forg get to put the cap back on

and then you can decorate it if you want

to and see what I did to mine put

ribbons on it and I put decorations

around it with some tape and some

markers the main thing is the music you

shake it like this you say hey Mom I can

make music she says what are you doing

with those beans in that bottle you say

I'm a musician and I wrote a song

oh my name is Ben and you are my friend

take it up baby until it will end no I

don't like that song very

much you can write a better song than I

can I'm sure of it if you just try it

we were just walking by when we saw our

good friend gerbert so we came over to

see him well any friend of Gerberts is a

thorb sir Max uh uh Max Max always gets

nervous meeting new people well there's

no reason to be nervous around me Max

thank you sir well we were just leaving

to go over to Gerbert's house to play it

was nice meeting you it was nice meeting

the two big lumps in Gerbert's backpack

wasn't that something Max yeah that was

suspected you were stealing two of his

best eff well I didn't steal anything

must have an apple tree in your backpack

because you sure didn't buy these you

put those in my backpack yes I did but

you walked away with them so that means

that you stole them gerbert I'll just

take them back to Mr geyser and tell him

what happened he'll never believe you I

mean they're in your backpack so go

ahead gerbert I hope you don't get into

too much trouble you believe me a man

and I really thought you were cool I

didn't know you were just a big chicken

don't like doing bad things like

stealing maybe we ought to take them

back we can't take them back we've

already started eating them haven't we

met that's my main man you want to

buite I'm going to buy a soda anyone

why did you bite the Apple for I just

can't seem to say no sometimes a lot of

the times hi's not always like that you

know he's really a good guy one time hie

had just gotten a brand new bicycle and

he let everybody that wanted to ride it

and one little kid couldn't reach a

pedals so Howley got him behind him and

pedal for him I let him steer Isn't that

cool yeah that's really nice I mean how

many kids you know who'll let everybody

ride their brand new bicycle how come

Hatley likes to do bad things

now I don't think Hy likes do bad stuff

he just sort of does it but he does good

stuff too well doesn't he ever get in

trouble with his daddy not really he

doesn't see his dad very often just on

the

weekends his mom and dad are divorce oh

doesn't he get in trouble with his mommy

his mom isn't around much and she works

works a lot are your parents divorc I'm

adoped cool sometimes I wish I was

adopted or maybe I could just turn into

one of those antique cars my dad's

always working on then my dad could just

work on

me I only had enough money for one soda

so I got three straws see I told you he

a nice guy you know what gerbert I

really like you you kind of remind me of

me when I was little I do yeah

just forget about what happened with the

apples all right are we friends sure I

like having friends

great

just stay tuned gerbert will be right

back prepare to go I I captain the hat

is secured then let's start our descent

and remember men there are a lot of

dangers under the water so keep a look

out slow down mates and keep a lookout

seen your family at church in a long

time well we don't go anymore see my mom

and dad got a divorce and everything and

oh well we don't go for much of that

family stuff anymore I'm sorry Hatley I

didn't know your parents got divorced no

big deal come on Max you got to go see

and then he just happened to lose it

then Melissa wouldn't suspect the thing

and the radio will be ours I just don't

if we tell G but he has to do it or we

won't like him anymore then he'll do it

gerbert well Melissa and I listened to a

new radio today it was fun you know we

don't usually hang around with little

first graders like

you but you're different gerbert in fact

we consider you one of us really and you

like us a whole lot too right and you

really really want to be one of our good

friends right very much H that's why we

have voted to give you our test of

friendship and if you pass the test

you'll be our best little buddy forever

what if I can't pass the test you won't

be our friend gerbert but we want you to

pass the test so much that we've made it

easy all you have to do is ask Melissa

if you can borrow her radio yes that all

just about then you tell her that you

accidentally lost it and that you don't

know where it is and that's the test see
