01x15 - Galactus

Post by bunniefuu »

Hey, gorgeous. It's almost time to watch

our wonderful selves on television.

Where's that human workhorse you call a

husband?Read in his lab, Ben.

Sometimes I think he should have married

his microscope instead of me. Ah,

forget it, Susie. Old Stretcho's

still crazy about you. He just... Hey!

Either I need glasses for my adorable

baby blue eyes, or else I think I see

two suns in the sky. It's true!

We better call Reed. I've already seen

it, Sue. What's happening, Reed?An

optical illusion?That's no illusion, Ben.

It's Reed. Whatever it is, it's growing

larger. You said it, brain trust.

Look, a whole cotton-picking

sky's on fire. Let's go up to the

observation platform.

Hey, look. The flames are gone, but now

the sky is full of blinking rocks. What

do you make of it, Reed? Those things

practically fill the sky. It looks like

some sort of floating orbiting space

debris. But where'd it come from? And what

is it doing here?Perhaps I can

explain. Who's that?

Yikes! I am the

Watcher. I have caused these phenomena in

the skies above Earth with my matter

immobilizer. The Silver Surfer

approaches. Silver Surfer?Who's

he?He is the advanced scout for

Galactus. Galactus, who drains entire

planets of their elements, then leaves

them dry and barren. I could not

let this happen. That is why I'm trying

to conceal your planet from the Silver

Surfer. Even as I speak, the

Silver Surfer has reached your moon. Even

though he cannot see Earth, he will grow

suspicious of the floating space debris.

Hey, look at that landing!

He signals Galactus. I have

failed. Failed?Nothing. Let me

at it. He's no longer our problem. We

must prepare for Galactus. Do your

preparing. I'm for Clo--

He went off!Got to grab him!

No, a mere ball cannot hurt the

Silver Surfer. Our concern now is for

Galactus. Look, even

now his universe-spanning sphere

approaches. Galactus has received the

silvery one signal.

SeeThe great seer opened.

The testing devices of the Dread Galactus

are sampling Earth's elemental

composition. He has found what he sees.

He's hidden right for it. He zeroed in

from the point where the Silver Surfer

sent the signal. Stand your ground.

Henceforth, there shall be no escape.

This planet contains all the energy I

need to sustain me. I shall drain it,

as I have drained countless worlds in

countless galaxies. But the other

worlds were dead. No harm was done.

There are billions of living beings on

this Earth. Their fate can be no

concern of Galactus. Says you,

Big Mouth. We'll make it your concern.

My best Sunday punch and it never got

through! I wonder where he could be.

My herald, the Silver Surfer, is

always at my point of landing. Is it

strange?

Who's out there?Oh,

he's hurt! What could have happened?I

wonder who he is. I better get him

inside, whoever he is. He needs help.

He's signaling his fear! We've got to

stop him! Galactus is too powerful.

Do not try to stop him yourselves.

Well, somebody's gotta try and stop him.

Here goes!

That galoot's got his stomach a virin'!

Perhaps this will keep you

quiet. Hey!

What's this?Hey, look out, run!

Hey, what's that?Wait, I'll get out.

He's treating us like gnats, as some sort

of cosmic insect repellent. Well, let me

try. There's got to be a way to fight

him. I'm going to find out. Flame on!

Stop. Don't light your flames there.

Nothing more to be done here. Return to

your quarters. Soon Galactus will start

construction of his elemental converter

to drain the energy from this Earth. The

Watcher has a plan.

He moved. I think he's coming, too.

Hey, not too fast. You had a bad

fall. I did not fall.

The one made of rocks wields a mighty

fist. Then?He hit you?Then

who?I am the Silver Surfer,

Herald of Galactus. Together, we will

drain this planet of its energies. Drain

Earth?No, you mustn't! You'll

destroy all life on our planet. If

need be. They do not matter.

Only Galactus matters. Millions of

lives?Not matter?We have hearts and

souls. Of course we matter. Just as

you yourself matter to me. Regardless of

your plans. Hearts?

Souls?I do not know their meaning.

Yet I know they are important, but--

oh, my head. Here.

You have a bad bump. This new chemical

redeveloped will ease the pain. And

now, Richards, my plan to save the Earth

involves only the human torch. You and

the one known as the Thing must leave the

room. But bear with me.

I know of a device unlike anything on

Earth. A device that may save you

all. It is in a place that only the torch

can reach. Since I am forbidden to engage

in this conflict, it is he who must

obtain it. Go on, Reed. I'll be okay.

Come on, Ben. We'll get the mayor to

clear the streets.

And now, my young friend, you must flee

this world. The object that can stop

Galactus lies in a distant universe.

Okay, I'll trust you. What do I have to

do?Banish fear from your heart. You shall

travel by space-time distortion. We must

force open the fabric of time itself.

Let it be done. You are

traveling back, far, far

back into the center of infinity.

Brace yourself for what is before you.

You are now entering the celestial

barriers, known as unlike.

To touch them is to bearish.

I will soon finish. Then this planet will

supply me with all the strength I need to

survive. He's almost got this thing

finished. We gotta do something. We will.

And when I have drained this planet, no

living thing shall remain. Then I will

move on in my eternal search for

energy. Well, time's a-wastin'. Let's

start fightin'. I'm with you, Ben. Here's

what we'll do.

There. Now let's see. Yes, the lump's

gone down. My head feels better.

But I am here to destroy you. Why did

you help me?You don't understand.

You are important. As is every living

thing on Earth. Life is a precious gift.

It should not be taken. It's not for us

to take. And so we protect it,

fight for it, even the life of a being

from another world. Even a being who

would destroy us must be helped. Your

words disturb me. Never have I

heard of such courage, such

nobility. Perhaps there is truth in what

you say. Then help us. You're not a

soulless sl*ve. Help us to defeat

Galactus. I defy

Galactus?It is unthinkable. You

can do it. I know you can.

Defy Galactus, I

wonder.

Now to link these two converters, and

all the seas of Earth shall be

transformed into purest energy.

The contact is made.

The spark is too weak. The converter does

not roar. It's not operating. Never

has it failed before. Why?Why

It must be one of the Earth people.

You fool! Do you think I

cannot create another in mere minutes?

Create all you want, Mr. and I'll clobber

as fast as you make 'em. Take that, you

crumbum!

Good work, Ben. You got him. Yeah, but he

didn't fall. He has a

built-in anti-gravity power cell. I

have endured enough from you human

insects. Now I will

obliterate you forever!

Stop! The Silver Surfer.

So, my Herald. Do you now advocate

the rights of humans?Have you

betrayed me?Betray you,

Master?Never! But in truth, I should

betray myself if I allow you to destroy

the human race. Breathe! The

Silver Surfer is going to help us!

Stretch down and get her. Right!

Hang on, Stu! These people

must be spared, Master. Let us

find another planet to sustain your

energies. Let us leave this Earth to

its people. You speak nonsense, Vital.

Speak no more, but obey Galactus.

If you insist on ravaging the Earth, I

will not obey. Now at last, I've found

something worth fighting for. You

challenge me?Galactus!

I am power itself!

Yes, I know. But since you do

not agree to leave this planet in peace,

Let the battle begin! They're

going to fight! Yes. Watch out for

wild bolts and missiles.

Energy bolts directly at me! It's

Magnus! No, master. It is

something called a conscience. You

play with pure energy.

Try that!

Oh, thank goodness. They missed him. It's

a good thing. I've never seen such a

display of power.

Incredible. It's pure energy.

He's coating Galactus with pure energy.

I must save my master from falling

before his anti-gravity power cell feeds.

There. Come on. Let's get down on the

roof and speak to the Silver Surfer.

Master, I grieve at battling

with one with whom I've shared a

universe. Say we may leave this

world, I beg you. Never!

So be it. Then I must let the energy

crystals harden about you. Will this case

hold, Galactus?That is my belief.

Nice going. That's a lot more than that

overrated watcher's been able to do.

You are in another time, another

eternity. You are here at the home

station of Galactus. In

that gargantuan space station, you will

find the object you see. The ultimate

weapon that even the great Galactus

fears. Wow! Look at

that!

Hey!Let me see this stuff. I never felt

solid energy. Ben, don't touch it!

I tried to warn you, Ben. It's charged

with a repellent force. Next time, warn

me harder. Reed! Look!

Something is happening to the energy

shell! Back, everybody!

Get back!

You attempt to defy me?

So, your force field! You of the

Fantastic Four and the Silver

Surfer! You have aroused

the wrath of mighty Galactus!

Now, if the Watcher will guide me safely

home... I am watching you.

Sue's force field got us out of a bad

situation. But now I must go and

battle once again with Galactus. Stay

here. Oh,

Harold! You go too far!

Again, beware of the wrath of

Galactus!

There, boy, Silver Princess, go get him!

That tool Galactus is too powerful.

Galactus is not evil. He is above

good or evil. Oh,

boy. Just what we need. Philosophy. How

about giving us some help?Talk cheap,

water. Patience, Ben Grimm.

I am not idle. Even now I am in

mental contact with the human torch,

protecting him from unspeakable dangers

of limitless space. Pray that this

journey will be successful. In fact,

is now nearing the end of his journey.

His arrival is momentary.

Re-entering Earth's atmosphere really

gets hot, but I'm almost home. Look!

Is that a comet? No, I think that must be

Johnny coming in.

Thank you, Watcher. I'm back. Thank

heavens! Good going, Torch! What do you

have, Johnny?I was sent far

away to bring this instrument of

destruction to the Watcher. Oh, I'm

weak! Here is the ultimate weapon.

We must act quickly. The battle of the

power giants grows perilous. Your

power has exceeded my expectations,

Harold. But it is nothing compared to

mine. Now it is time to

destroy you!You must

perish! No, Galactus! It is you

who shall perish! We have found the

weapon! Put that down! The

ultimate mollifier in the hands of a

human! In the name of Cosmos,

be careful! You hold the means

of destroying a galaxy to

annihilate a universe! And should the

universe crumble, can Galactus

survive?You did this watch here.

OnlyYou have the power. You have

given a child who lives in a powder

cake a match to play with.

Agreed. But this world belongs to

these so-called children. But what of

Galactus?If I am to survive,

I must absorb the energy from a planet.

There are other planets. To destroy this

planet is needless folly. Very well.

Surrender the weapon, and I will tarry on

this earth no longer. Give him the

weapon. The word of Galactus can never

be questioned. So, for

the first time, my will has been

thwarted. But I bear no malice

toward the humans. But for you, my

herald, we meet again in the

great expanse of the universe.

So, beware. So

be it, Galactus. I grieve to think

of us not together, but so be it.

I call down my spear and prepare to leave

you. The game

has ended. The prize is lost.

But I have seen the glint of glory within

the rates of man. It shall one day lift

you to the stars or bury you

in the ruin of w*r. The choice is yours.

Farewell.

Gone. Everything's gone. Galactus and all

his equipment. And now it is my turn to

say goodbye. I have duties in other

cosmic places. Our eternal thanks.

But fear not. The Watcher is ever

watchful. So, until we meet

again.

And you, silver surfer. The world owes

you a debt of extreme gratitude. How

about throwing in with us?I'd like to try

that fancy surfboard myself. How about it?

You can bunk in with old Ben. Thank you,

my friends. I was born to soar.

the currents of space. My place is

still in the skies above. Before you

go, something to remember us by.

I shall not forget you, all of you.

But now there are new planets to explore,

new wonders to discover. And then

someday when my wanderlust is stilled,

then perhaps I shall return.

Farewell.

He would have been fun. Yeah, and I

almost had a roommate.
